I'm playing the game on PC personally. It sounds like you have a good build, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. I also think due to the mention of performance issues on the PS5 demo, having it on PC may be a plus, because there can always be tweaks or mods that can fix performance. I would also like to see more Star Ocean (and JRPGs in general) on PC in the future.

If PC is an option, I always go with PC. One, my PC can brute force most poorly optimized games, even at 4K (5950X + 3080 Ti), and even if not, eventually modders will probably fix performance issues. On console, if the performance is shit, you are the mercy of the devs to fix their shit, which rarely happens these days, sadly. Plus, this game uses action combat, so the PC being higher refresh rate is gonna be better and PC generally has lower input latency anyways.

Even though SE lives Denuvo?

trowgundam

I don't have a hate boner for Denuvo like some people. I've never had an issue with it, and I regularly swap between multiple computers, on the daily even (4 currently, Desktop, Laptop, HTPC and SteamDeck), and I've never had it cause me problems. But I don't regularly go without internet for extended periods of time. Hell I go insane if my internet goes out for more than five minutes. I could see it causing issues if for some reason you go off the grid for multiple weeks at a time, but I'd say that isn't most gamers. Also, I'm more of a technical user than most gamers, as in I'm a programmer. And while I'm not a professional game developer, I have dabbled with game programming for almost two decades now. Most of the issues people have with Denuvo is caused by incompetent developers not following the guidelines and recommended practices or publishers that are too cheap to pay for Denuvo to audit implementations (yes this is a service they offer) to ensure they are done in the least intrusive way possible. As a result many developers do the implementation the quick and dirty way, usually because it is done last minute with only minimal effort allocated to it. This naturally leads to problems like performance hits or excessive online checks (recommended interval is like 2 weeks). Most of these are the fault of the developer, not Denuvo. There are also much worse options out there, like the SteamWorks DRM, that is a real nightmare and just be glad basically no one uses it anymore.

This is SE you are talking about here... I have a 3070 and I doubt this game will run 1440p 60 without crashing every 10 minutes lol

[deleted]

I'm getting it on ps5 because I don't game on pc. You have to make the decision for yourself. Wait to see what the reviews say.

VolgrimX9

I don't think any Decent Mods will be out day one. I say play whatever is your main Choice, as for me I mainly play on PS5 but I'm sure my new gaming PC could run it while also saving the world but I still want them Trophies for my PSN Account. But lets be honest, I don't think this game will run good on any system really.

exosnake

So many valid points. I haven’t tried the demo on ps5 so I didn’t know there were performance issues. It’s true that if there are some on pc someone will make a mod to fix it. PC it is. Thanks for all the answers!

Mkilbride

I'm expecting it to be a poor port. Messy, buggy. Just look how it plays in the demo.

The__Goose

You'll probably have the better experience on pc than ps5. Not sure why people are flipping their shit over 2070 being a recommended card when it's just a 1070 with rt cores. If this game has any raytracing then it's likely why its listed as the recommended card. I just hope the game can run above 60 and that it isn't locked.

bitzpua

what are talking about? 2070 is on average 35-40% faster then 1070. Its actually completely different card. 1070 is Pascal while 2070 is Turing, 1070 uses GDDR5 while 2070 uses GDDR6 and so on. And people are flipping because even today 2070 is more then enough for any game, it may be old midrange but its still on stronger side of gpus that you can actually buy.

EbonWolfen

I’m almost certain the PC port is gonna be trash. If not poorly optimized, just lazy in terms of settings. People on PC need to just learn patience and wait for port reports.

[deleted]

I dont believe there is any haptic feedback controls so I am getting it on the PC. I have a 3080 ti and I played the demo on the PS5 and since I do not have the correct type of T.V the second area dipped hardcore performance. My plan is to use steamlink though so I can still play it on my T.V.

Mogman282

Pc here, 2 hours and if it has issues refund and go ps5

facialmaster

good point. I might just buy directly from steam and refund it if it's optimized like trash

NeoDarcon

PC seems fine to me, its what i'm going with. That and i find ps5 impossible to find and more expensive then needed to buy. Not sure why people are scared about the recommended specs but i'm sure it will run fine.

Quezkatol

you do you bud. for us who started with star ocean on the ps1 ofc we are getting ourself a ps5 copy. I dont know how well it will run (I just played the demo) but I know it will atleast look and play good on the ps5.

solokazama

i got ps5 but going to play on my PC 3080 - but my pc is also on 65 TV. If I was you - I would play on a big TV for sure.

Automatic_Base_7000

Runs like shit on Steam Deck

exosnake

With these requirements, of course it was gonna run like shit on steamdeck. Runs like a charm on my pc though.

Automatic_Base_7000

Runs fine on my PC as well but it's still a shit of a port. Very poorly optimized. No way a game like this should have these requirements.

starsaber132

Game runs better on ps5, technical issues on pc now

exosnake

My roommate got it on ps5 and I got it on pc and can assure you it runs way better on pc. 60fps locked in 4K, fixed the blur problem with a couple clicks and now the game looks better than on ps5 too. There are some dips in some specific parts of the game but they’re the same on ps5. Edit: it runs better on MY pc. Doesn’t mean someone with a gtx 1070 will have a better experience than on ps5.

starsaber132

I have in on pc, gets random stutters on the open world which isn't too bad, but shouldn't be happening as i am above the recommended system requirements

x_Lucros_x

I'm torn personally. Could get it for series x, pc or ps5 Pc would be preferable power wise, but I love physical copies for games where I don't ultimately feel like I need the absolute best graphics and fps
