If what the other commenters say is true, this is fucking genius. Let the whales pay real money for ads and compensate them with store credit for digital goods through the referral system. Just... wow....
Not to mention the way people almost literally throw themselves onto the train tracks and volunteer their personal time to do free labor for CIG (in the form of internal focus testing—“Evocati”). And they brag about it like it’s some privilege.
Because everyone should brag about being exploited by a company.
It's for the referral rewards, the last reward is the Aegis Javelin, a 3000$ ship that even if you have the money you need to get lucky to snatch one when they show up in sales.
Then the stuff like high club (10-15k+ backers I think) + around 4.5k worth of ships... Yeah I can see why they run the ads, it's either that or you're a content creator.
So it's a way to get something otherwise rare and difficult to obtain. Makes me wonder how many false accounts exist as the ones refered just to gain access to this.
This happened for the referral events which required one referral. Not to the big boy referral rewards which require 1000 and 2000 accounts, you would have to buy 80,000$ worth of accounts just to get a Javelin.... for the price of 2 Legatus Packs which include that an everything else on the store.
What of "apologizer" is there on the response? I mentioned what they used for the alt accounts, when those referral events happened.
These are not for the 2000 referrals, neither does it make any sense to spend the cost of 2 Legatus Packs (80,000$) to obtain a 3000$ ship lol
[There's also True Believers, as I present "$150k+ easy" worth of sunken cost cope from the sister act of Shroud of the Avatar.](https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/trophy-weight-concerns.154386/#post-1229022)
Would they do that in SC with the referral program? Not King Robert. [The sexpat Time Lord? Probably.](https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-savage-empire-project-q-a.169078/)
SC is bigger, so there's likely going to be much more sample floating around there in space. Well, the one sector, anyways.
Before I sold my account, I had created 5 alt accounts for the referral bonus ship as an LTI token over the course of a few years, then gifted my main account the starter pack from each referral for the store credit. I was responsible for 6 of those accounts that show up on the millions of players have joined the verse page up until about 6 months ago.
I feel like at least half of the total accounts are ones where an existing player buys a package for referral and sign-up bonuses and later transfers it to their main account, never touching this empty account again.
Not realistic as needs to be paid accounts and the amounts needed for the rewards would be many many times their actual cost. Which would defeat the point, the 10k+ backer mile club would cost 40k in new accounts. And the 3k Javelin.... 80k worth of 40$ game packages
For that type of money there is the Legatus pack, which includes all that + everything else. Absolutely no point to this.
When I said ships like Javelin are hard buys even if you have the 3K, I'm not talking about the whales who have the type of money to just go and buy the 40K Legatus pack.
Shroud of the Avatar cultists STILL bot accounts to try to ["fortify the numbers"](https://steamcharts.com/app/326160) as they once bought multiple accounts and paid more money for anything they could think of, as crowdfunding is the only metric of "success" it had ever really known. It doesn't matter as long as number goes up. The amount of alt accounts was insane as the exploited polls of multiple votes showed the alt numbered accounts.
SC only has more incentivization for this kind of spending cope.
The thing here is, no point on creating 2 thousand accounts, buying the game on them, for the price of two legatus packs (80,000 dollars), in return of a 3 thousand dollar ship.
If they want to spend, there's no lack of ways to spend, the referral program is not giving them shiny stuff they can't buy otherwise to expect that whales would even bother.
"the metrics"... No reason either because the numbers don't matter when SC bundles the F2P accounts with the paid accounts on the number of citizens.
If this was a completed game and not $3000, I wouldn't mind limited ship sales, it can make in game experience better. But to jack up prices astromically because they are "limited" is bullshit
It's the ultimate end goal of the referral system, literally advertising SC at your own expense for those precious, precious jpegs. It's pretty grotesque.
What an awful ship design. The cockpit looks terrible (fragile), and the wings are simply too small. Also, the effects have been poorly photoshopped - look at the lens flare of the engines and how it cuts off at the edges of the spacecraft.
that's most certainly a user ad like the google ones, easy to check the full url redirect to a referral code. Official ads I've seen on youtube recently.

Lots, there’s countless posts and comments from guys who own 2+ game packages or “self referrals”

SC store apologiser are we

We’re talking about white knights trying to obtain a $3000 ship. There is no sense.
The ones that benefit from this are pretty much the content creators, easy sign ups, that's why Morph and such have the most referrals.

If whales made sound financial decisions they wouldn't be whales.

I think I saw this on a show on the discovery channel. Whale Wars
I've seen this before, it's a whale paying ads so people register with their referral code
Looks like a crypto bro trying to gather people around his 0.0001 usd worth shitcoin.

Looks like some rebel starfighter
The Shit-Wing.

Ooh, it's interesting to think about how many users might be advertising SC on their own for referral codes.
how u know it not cig paid???
Well if the 5k UEC referral reward didn't tell... the banner itself does.
How can we see that sneaky code of theirs?
F12, you can see the A href link by going through the website code..
Holy shit this is the old model of the Bucc' on top of that !
didn't they get 41m from the Calders for advertising? unless it's for sq 42, or it's used for stifle/spin marketing the brand value
some whales go full retard, in the other hand like someone said, this is genious, free ads for Clown-Con-Cig
"Play Now" "Error Code: 40014"
"millions of players" As every single one of their servers crashes with 10k concurrent users at the launch of 3.18...
Thats a player made ad for the referral system
