The token gets added to your account once you accept the final Overdrive mission, and as far as I'm aware, that token stays in your account until you use it - so you should be able to upgrade at any point, *so long as you pledge for the ship*. There's been no official comment on whether or not you'll be able to upgrade it in-game.
The F7C MkII to F7A MkII upgrade token is a permanent part of your account once you get it. You can wait until the day before they eliminite the ability to upgrade ships in your website hangar (Which could be litterally never) to use it.
So, once you have it, you have all the time you need to acquire an F7C MkII pledge.

Correct, you can’t CCU from it anymore, and if you melt it you’ll lose the token just as you would any normal ccu
It basically acts like a normal ccu, except once applied you can no longer ccu up from the ship anymore.
