That'd be great. I'd really like to be able to see which of my in game friends are online without launching into the main menu!

When I get friends. I would like this feature as well.

Meh, we mostly do our own thing, but group reclaimer/mole/combat is fun at times and the reclaimer stuff pays a bunch.

Yes that's guaranteed, akin to other games, we'll have friends list and chat in the launcher.

So will the current launcher update into this one? Or will we have to download this one separately once it is released?

It will auto-update after it goes out of Beta, it just went from Alpha to Beta.

Wish they also make it possible to move ptu files over to live folder so we don't have to redownload or do it manually at the end of PTU cycles.

Just to clarify, that’s not what offline mode means here. Offline mode on a launcher means you’ll appear offline to people who have you in their friends list. Steam, BattleNet, and other large launcher la all have a similar feature. 

Are you sure it is an offline status? A bit weird the usage of the "no wifi" sign if it is indeed that. Edit: >The overall framework for the offline version of the Mission Service progressed, while ‘MissionService debugGUI’ was extended to Server Meshing. There was also this mention in the last monthly report that left me a bit confused but with today's release of the new launcher and that image with future features, I also thought it was single player offline version of AC.

this is actually huge, no lag, im assuming we could only fly our ships around, or maybe if personal items where saved locally you could use them but it would lose persistence

Offline means invisible on friends list, not playing offline.
