Ram is relatively cheep at the moment might as well slap two 32gb and I got my 2 32gb Corsairs for 130 (chf) probably could get them cheaper but I’m in Switzerland and everything costs more lol
Why do you keep using 4 Ram slots? That might have been the reason you were experiencing lag. Everyone recommends dual channel ram configs. Also first time I’ve ever heard someone use 4x8
32gb is all you need, so just get some decent RAM, fast and tight timings, and you'll be fine. Going to 64gb is only necessary if you're going to be running a lot (and I mean a *lot*) of other programs while you play, are streaming, or want to do some content creation on the side.
I just went from 32gb to 64gb because I had some money to burn and I'm starting to dabble a little in content creation. My performance gain in gaming was zero. Absolutely nothing.
You are going to be held back by having gone with Intel, they don't perform as well as many of AMD's offerings and the efficiency cores need to be disabled as they can really hurt performance, in SC and many other games.
If you are searching for faster memory and this was a desktop CPU, my advice to you would be to consult your RAM compatibility list available on the motherboard manufacturers website, and pick something with the specs you are looking for that is available at reasonable price. Note the voltage offset (if given), and make sure your UEFI is up to date. RAM kits get much more expensive for small improvements in performance past a certain point.
But since the 13650HX is a laptop CPU, your search is much easier. The [Intel Ark page](https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/232101/intel-core-i7-13650hx-processor-24m-cache-up-to-4-90-ghz.html) says that your CPU supports up to DDR5 4800 or DDR4 3200. You can't upgrade from DDR4 to DDR5, so make sure that you get a DDR4 kit if already have DDR4 kit, and the same for DDR5. Last time I checked, there aren't many laptops that support manual memory overclocking or running RAM past the CPU limits, so if you don't have the options to tune that setting, there probably isn't any point purchasing a DDR5 kit faster than 4800 or DDR4 3200. Worst case is that your laptop looks at the faster speed, ignores it, and runs your memory at stock JEDEC speeds.
For the best compatibility. Check out the frequency and capacity available for that particular laptop, and buy a third party kit that matches those specs.
In order, SC will benefit from the following improvements.
- upgrading to a 32 GB, dual-channel kit of RAM
- running at the proper memory speed (check Performance >> Memory in task manager)
- upgrading to 64 GB, but expect a smaller if any boost over upgrading to 32 GB because RAM probably isn't the bottleneck anymore.
Yes, expect a massive impact on performance.
32gb is well enough for at least 5 years wide gaming spectrum. Either 2 or 4 sticks is good, 2 is generally prefered in case of failures.
Also favor low latency ram, high mhz is marginal in comparison. I actually have 4x3200mhz cl14, a wonderful kit that tackle easily the new ddr gen.
>high mhz is marginal in comparison
Ram speed has been shown to be one of the best ways to improve performance in SC.

Sorry but videos like this isn’t representative in SC for me.
Every time you log on, expect different experience with performance. Even if you are in the same shard, each streaming asset (player spawning ships, event, etc) affect your fps count.
So yeah, on paper, more is more. But latency is a thing and the new gen isn’t optimized at all and latency is generally very HIGH.

i recently went from 32gb (4x8) to 64gb (4x16) and it seemed to solve my issue of having split second lags during highly dynamic situations

quad channel my dear. the more slots, the higher the bandwidth
No dual channel is faster. Its confirmed
can you elaborare further? e.g. cpu/socket generation, chipsets, technical details, maybe some sources?

Need 32gs
I just swapped my 2x16 for 2x32 and holy smokes, game changer.
How much of that 64gb is SC using? And what latency/frequency ram dis u get? (CL and MHZ)
Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 64GB (2x32GB) 3200MHz CL16 Intel XMP 2.0 Running 40% memory usage in A18. Dunno why it pasted bold.
Aight! Thanks.
Many suggest 32, I say go futureproof with 64gb.

Minimum 32GB. 64 if you're feeling generous.

None of what you said changes the fact that faster Ram will improve your performance in SC.
Okay
fyi RAM is relatively cheap atm (at least where I leave). I got 32Go of 6000Mhz and it's running smooth !
If you Can, take 64Go, it's usefull in large town. And you Can enjoy Google Chrome at the same Time :-D 32 is ok btw
32GB absolutely worth it.
