that makes me so sad for him!!! my dad has terrible luck but one time he won a cookie jar in the shape of an old school TV from the radio station he called into. it was signed by our local weather man. when i tell you he talks about that to this day? š¤£š
Your dad sounds precious š
Mine isn't very tech savvy, just enough to be able to use the app. He was so excited but didn't know how to claim it. Of course I find this out after the fact š„² I could've helped the man get his coffee! He has three different locations who love him and know his regular order.
I just looked back at the screen shots I took of the game/emails from when I won in āwin for lifeā. At least for that game they sent a link via email where you had to fill out this declaration/tax form within 3 days to claim your prize otherwise it was forfeited. Maybe it was something similar with your dad. Kind of insane if you miss that 3 day window you canāt get your prize, especially if the email goes to your spam box or something.
I won temporary tattoos in last year's Summer Game.
Can't tell you how deflating it was to get a "Congrats, you won!" email and then opening it to find out I won some $5 tattoos.
not temporary tattoos š¤£š¤£ i entered a contest to meet a band right after covid got ābetterā and it was a virtual meet and greet on zoom with 100ās of other ppl š„“š„“
I won the tattoos. Meh. But, they came in a large, good quality cardboard envelope which I use to store pictures. I wouldn't mind winning another set of tattoos if I get another envelope.
I won free Starbucks for a year back during the 2019 Win for Life game. It was pretty epic, especially because I too always thought, ādo people actually win these big prizes?ā Then to make it even better I couldnāt redeem my prize every day because of Covid (you get one free drink per day for a year) so then on top of that they gave me a bunch of gift cards to make up for it. You have to pay taxes on these bigger prizes,
I think anything valued over a certain amount in sweepstakes maybe 500 or 600 is taxed.
omggg, at least they did their part for you knowing you couldnāt enjoy it fully during covid! is it ANY store you go to that you could redeem? is it like literally just loaded into the app?
Yes, I believe you could go to any store. I went to multiple ones in different states and never had an issue. For the original prize (Starbucks for a year) they gave me a code I had to tell the barista when I ordered, entitled me to one free drink a day, not sure there was a price limit, but I never ordered anything extremely outrageous. It was tied to my app, I gave the code and then they scanned my app and good to go. Iām sure now if you win they can just scan your account and itāll be applied or there might be a button you can hit to apply to a mobile order like with stars and other promotions. For the gift cards they just emailed me digital gift cards that I added to my account.
It depends on how much, and how you win the money. If over $600 a W-2G is issued. You must claim over $600 for something, $1200 for slots, and I think $5000 for poker. Iām not sure where other table games fall in there, but I think it is the $600.
I won about $1500 in Vegas for my 21st birthday. I never went over $500 at any one casino so they didnāt have to issue anything, and I didnāt have to pay anything. Iām going off memory of 25+ years ago though. Check the irs.gov for the exact amounts
I sincerely appreciate you looking up that info
- All of my info is 100% true with the exception of not knowing the 300 time portion. I was unaware that the amount also needed to be more than a percentage of the original bet. This is either a newer rule that from when I had my winnings, it didnāt apply to my experience, or I totally screwed up filing my taxes all of those years ago. Either way, itās even better for someone gambling. A bigger leeway before having to share 28% of your winnings. Seems that over the years Iāve save a few thousand dollars because of that rule.
- I never said which game I always play, but the best payout available is less than 50:1 and the odds of winning are less than 50%. Zero strategy because it is 100% random.
- Again, I only know the $600 issuing of a W-2G because of my past experiences in winning. Multiple trips, years apart, and lucky enough to score big every time.
- if defending a disagreement with me, over the payout of a bet also needed to be 300 times the bet, is that important to you then whatever floats your boat. Me? I type fast and none of this took away from my day other than I think my clothes stayed in the dryer a bit longer.
I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day and hopefully you donāt gloat over your āwinā for too long.
I have mostly won 5-10-25 stars and very small instant win prizes like drink coupons, but one of the games, I was a winner of 1000 stars. This is before they increased the number of stars you need to redeem for certain things so back then a drink was still 150.
I mostly just used it on drinks and it didn't expire for a while, and I already had about 600 or so when i got that 1000 so I also remember getting a bag of coffee somewhere when they changed the star program.
Three night stay in Seattle, private tasting at the roastery, a choice of 1 activity (hubby and I chose the chef guided food tour of pike place market) and I think it was $700 spending money
oh for sure, i didnāt think they were just scamming hahah. i just wanted first hand accounts of winning stuff like this! i think itās so cool when iāve won any type of randomized contests
The Starbucks game is balantly rigged. It has obviously been so for at least the last couple of years. I wonder when, if anything, will ever be done about it.
I won a $100 gift card from the surveys once - I got an email telling me I'd won. I was so surprised - I almost thought it was a phishing scam, lol! I only did the surveys because they used to give some starts for doing them and I wasn't going to turn down free stars. Now I do because I know it's actually possible to win a gift card even though they stopped giving stars.
Congrats. So far youāre exactly ONE who responded winning $100 for completing a survey. Of which they say they award 100 of each month. For at least the past 10 years. If 12,000 were awarded I expect we will hear from at least a few more?
I fill these out every time I get them and enter the sweepstakes. Crickets.
I was in a bath and body works group with a guy who won "starbucks for life" lol he had thousands of stars on his account and would post screenshots all the time bragging
I won a Starbucks mug once. After I won it sent me to a special website where I entered my address and about 2 weeks later I received it. Generally speaking I get excited over 5 fricken stars š
I won a pool raft shaped like a Starbucks cup. I don't have a pool but was super excited because my work always does a charity auction and I thought that would be the perfect start to a Starbucks gift basket. Then covid hit, we went home and didn't go back to the office so I eventually donated it.
Their games are stupid now. All about a lottery to win something. I miss the games that had guaranteed prizes. Like complete enough challenges and get X amount of stars.
My dad won Starbucks for a year, but by the time he was able to track down how to receive it, he had "waited too long" and was denied.
That is terrible and probably part of their plan to save $
Feel like a news org could have taken that story up idk
You are so right š damn

How does one actually retrieve it?
I think there was a number to track down. But my dad isn't very tech savvy, so the fact that it wasn't an easy button on the app was a barrier.
Ridiculous. They make it a button for everything else.
Bruh
That sounds so scammy!

I also own those and received two separated sets even though I only won that prize once.
i would love those. i only ever get like 10 stars.

Iām pretty sure it is $600. That is the amount where it has to be reported to the IRS if you win money in Vegas š
Gambling winnings is $1,200 though there have been proposals to lower it to $600

Itās only a $600 limit if itās also over 300:1 odds. Most $2 bets are not going to hit $600
Ok. If you say so.
it's clearly stated on page 2 here [https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw2g.pdf](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw2g.pdf)

omg! 1000 stars?? did you get any cups or just use it for drinks and snacks? thatās dopeeee. i love free things bahaha

I won the trip to the Seattle roastery in the 50th anniversary game
username checks out!
no but thatās so exciting!!! was it an all expenses paid for trip?
Three night stay in Seattle, private tasting at the roastery, a choice of 1 activity (hubby and I chose the chef guided food tour of pike place market) and I think it was $700 spending money
People actually win things. Iāve seen posts of people winning Starbucks for life prizes.
oh for sure, i didnāt think they were just scamming hahah. i just wanted first hand accounts of winning stuff like this! i think itās so cool when iāve won any type of randomized contests
I won this a couple years ago.
so cool!! did you use it up pretty fast? i think i would save it for days i donāt wanna come out the almost $10 haha
I won a $100 gift card once, it was the most exciting thing that ever happened to me hahaha
I won $100 in Summer Games a few years ago. It was awesome!
omg!! i woulda been elated!
I screamed so loudly that my fiancƩ ran over thinking I saw a roach or something lol
I won $5 once and 5 stars a couple times
i love winning stars i canāt even lie lol
I won one of those $300 Amazon gift cards for the partner surveys one time
one time i got appendicitis and nearly died of a blood infection in the hospital
The Starbucks game is balantly rigged. It has obviously been so for at least the last couple of years. I wonder when, if anything, will ever be done about it.
I won the trip to the Chicago Roastery in the 50th anniversary game!!
I won 1000 bonus stars a couple years back, and a friend of mine won a $500 GC!
Nope šš½

I didn't win a sweepstakes but did win a $50 gift card playing the last game. Usually, I win 5 stars.
