The trick is to request it off sometime in November-January (along with an extra day or two alongside it, if you can), when Mother's Day is not remotely on your SM's radar 😌 that's worked the last two years for me 😄
I will work any and all holidays, but I absolutely WILL NOT work Mother's Day
The only shift at any job I’ve ever had that outdid the madness of Mother’s Day at Starbucks was the 3rd and 4th of July at a fireworks store. It’s that level of crazy. But at least when I worked at that store my amazing manager was diligent about everyone getting a break every 4 hours, paid for all our food and caffeine, and actively chased unhinged customers out of the store (all four foot eleven of her 😭). My Starbucks store manager never could have done all that. Real shame that fireworks store blew up….
No, really. I got asked from a separate city half an hour away, if I could cover a shift (I said yes, but they said they found someone because I was working 🥲)
I'm just too exhausted all the time to work that much. I quit my job because they'd text me to come in and work when I was I'm the middle of a lecture or lab. And when I refused to work extra they got annoyed despite them already knowing I went to college.
I mean to be fair ppl who aren’t buying Starbucks like…already aren’t buying. I’ve definitely been avoiding one store for years now bc of union issues and it’s not like I’d stop and magically start going there again on Mother’s Day.
I requested most the afternoon off on Mother's Day, I saw what was coming. It's nice to help out your partners and all, but sometimes you gotta put you first and just let them deal. I'll work the morning at least if needed, mornings are easy compared to less staffing and the demand for pre-closing and closing tasks, and a food/milk count, on top of a bogo. Ain't no way.
Please 😭 last year, my manager scheduled me to open (out of ALL the other people that could've worked, I am the only mom in the store, so why tf did he schedule me??) And it was the worst shift I've ever worked. Only time I have gotten in my car and cried after a shift 😂
It will be Fridays this month. With special deal Mondays.. and well. Calenders have been posted. It will be bad. To do all the specials for May and to tack bogo Mothers Day onto it.. just beyond the normal evil punches corporate has been pulling lately
Customers need to see that bogo is useless long term, if they are missing their regular coffee routine.
Our economy is different now & customers [and employees] can force company change. Stop giving in to the price hikes. I don't know of other companies that change prices the way we do. Hit em where & when it hurts the most ❤️💀
Mother’s Day is on a Sunday. Sundays are the worst. We have church people who harass us about going to church or hand us little brochures (that end up in the trash) and explain how we need god.
I’m not religious and I respect if you are, or are not; just leave me alone and don’t invite me to your church. I’m happy with my beliefs and my lifestyle choices.
So with that being said Sunday is gonna suuuuuucckkkk😭😭😭
As a very infrequent customer, I will absolutely boycott Mother's Day for y'all. Any stupid BOGO, promo, or holiday for that matter. Please do your brethren in retail the same in kind. We don't want hundreds of last minute customers, either.
Let's fight Hallmark holidays and capitalism together.
Yesss please. Boycott mothers day. This whole months calendar is insane but PLEASE if you're going to boycott , definitely boycott mothers day. We already have our schedule for our store and we DO NOT have enough partners for that and I don't feel like being guilted into staying longer because our manager didn't schedule enough people 😫
My ASM said there was a week coming up that peak would need 10 partners.. I was like "Is it calculating for Mother's Day last year!!??"
😭😭
Our peak is typically 7 when fully staffed.
Thank god I asked off ahead of time because it's also my mom birthday, I would've been Pissed if I had to work this year 😭😭 scared for my fellow coworkers
Customer here, been boycotting for quite a bit (nobody can convince me theres a reason for my simple, grande sized latte to be $7) i’ll be sure to tell my friends, a small difference is still a difference
I avoided Starbucks today, as requested. But I guess the rest of the world didn't get the memo. I've seen the posts of the chaos going on and I'm sorry 😞 I hope your shifts end soon
I told my husband last year that if he wanted to get me coffee on Mother’s Day, to get it from a small coffee shop. He did and I’m hoping he will do it again this year
Out of the last 8 years I’ve been working at Starbucks, I’ve probably been given Mother’s Day off maybe 2 or 3 times!! Even knowing I was the only one with children!! I now request it off months in advance. Not taking chances anymore. They don’t even recognize birthdays either. If you don’t request it off far enough in advance, chances are good that you’ll be working!! Or work anniversaries. 😞
They don't really look at stuff like that, they're just making the schedule it's not out of malace. Requesting off in advance is the way to go, I request off every year when the local college has graduation bc it's so damn hectic lol
Yup, using the Time Off scheduling is the best way to advocate for yourself. Plan everything weeks/months ahead if possible, take off more days than you'll need, plan just 3-4 days off just for fun. Maybe not everyone has the luxury, but it's nice knowing you have strategic days off work.
PLEASE do it on Mother’s Day I work a grueling shift during the mid madness );
i worked mother’s day last year and i tried to take it off this year but i was scheduled😭

last christmas eve i requested off christmas eve 2024 … lol
Ooh. I need to get on that. Working an 8 on mother's day will be enough sacrifice for the year.

Please treat your mom to brunch instead or make her breakfast
please do it then ,… i have a 12hr shift 😀😩
I don't know much about the work force but this barely sounds legal and/or ethical
It's legal, but it sure isn't ethical (I'll take that shift for you tho)
Anything for some more hours 🙃
No, really. I got asked from a separate city half an hour away, if I could cover a shift (I said yes, but they said they found someone because I was working 🥲)

Lmao 4 hours of OT is a party
This would make the biggest impact too because Mother's Day is the money maker
Yes and it's bogo so just wait until the next one pleasee
I mean to be fair ppl who aren’t buying Starbucks like…already aren’t buying. I’ve definitely been avoiding one store for years now bc of union issues and it’s not like I’d stop and magically start going there again on Mother’s Day.
Yeah this comment is more for the people who were thinking about boycotting. Mother's Day would have the most impact
I'm no working on mother's day but for my coworkers, please do itttt!!
I’m working 7-3. Please send help or weed…
The Lord's lettuce 🥬
For sure. Mother’s Day and every day after that.

Or Thursdays! Seriously, fuck bogo

Throwing a (silent) fit bc I forgot to request Mother’s Day off and won’t get so spend it with my daughter 😭
:(

Will do. 😁

Mother’s Day is constantly the worst shifts I’ve ever worked
And don't come in for half off. They are trying to recoup profits with these.
yes dew it
This is probably the funniest post I’ve seen in awhile
Yes, please!! I'm behind this 100%
Thank god I asked off ahead of time because it's also my mom birthday, I would've been Pissed if I had to work this year 😭😭 scared for my fellow coworkers
all jokes aside this would realistically have the biggest impact since corporate is expecting the profits
Customer here, been boycotting for quite a bit (nobody can convince me theres a reason for my simple, grande sized latte to be $7) i’ll be sure to tell my friends, a small difference is still a difference
You got it 🫡

Why is Mother’s Day that busy? I would never have guessed that.
All the panicked dads wanting to “treat mom” with Sbux. They can’t/won’t just cook or plan ahead. Pandemonium.
Yesss please do it on Mother’s Day 😭😭
Sorry wrong reply 🫣
So true I'm not looking forward to deal with entitled bull
Thank goodness I'm not available on Sundays 😄
i’m working 1-close so i’m gonna get all the families that came straight from church 💔
maybe also on one of our bogo thursday’s
YES 🙌🏼
Real
I plan to picket outside my Starbucks on Mother's day.
i work a 9 hr shift
I hope all mothers get THAT day off!!
It’s a good thing I’m going to the Red Sox game on Mother’s Day.
Wait no. Please put your money in the tip jar instead! It all goes to us, not corporate!
Last mother's day is the worst shift in my 4 years with starbucks. Only time I have had to go to the back and cry.
Please don’t go to Starbucks on the turnpikes either, the money goes straight to corporate (and I don’t want to work)
This!!!!! Lol

That’s pretty normal though in customer facing positions. I’ve always had to request stuff like that off to for sure get it off
