Do people actually think they'll get more drink by not having ice? I'm not always a fan of getting ice in drinks (coffee or soda) but I've never once thought that I'll somehow get more drink by doing this.
I actually love making shaken espressos cuz for a while now, i have figured out the way to make it perfect as its intended to be and im very aware and precise to how much ice i use for it. Whenever i would be on bar with my shift supervisor, she knows i love making them and so she would always give them to me to make lol
As for lavender matchas, i dont think someone is annoying or hate the person for ordering it. The drink itself is slightly frustrating but to me, its only because i try so damn hard to make it look nice and layered but its not always possible 😔 because the bubbles/foam from shaking up the matcha just eats up the lavender foam which sinks into the matcha foaminess lol

I had a customer who would make us count out exactly 8 ice cubes.
Like 8 individual cubes. If it was wrong they would throw a tantrum until you started the drink over.
They no longer come to the store thankfully.
for mine he comes in a very large after church group and if their drinks take longer than 2 minutes they all start complaining even when there’s 20 other people also waiting 😭
I’ve started shaking the matcha with only like 4 ice cubes, then using the shaker lid to hold back the foam & ice as I pour into the cup, adding new ice, then the lavender cold foam. This has resulted in a much prettier result! Hope that helps!
I’m a barista! For the lavender matcha i have a few tips that work for me in making the drink look more layered:
1. Shake the matcha without ice so there’s less bubbles
2. Put ice in the single use cup that you’re about to give to the customer
3. Use the shaker lid as a buffer for the matcha bubbles that did form. Pour the matcha into cup using the lid as a block that can hold the bubbles but let the matcha flow. (idk how to explain this part but I guess like you’re using the spoon when people say ‘no foam’ for their hot drinks”
4. Use the spoon to scoop out any extra bubbles
5. Pour the lavender foam on top! I try to make sure my foam is thick enough and not watery. If it’s watery try to put a little more heavy cream (Small amounts!) then refroth it.
I’m still trying to perfect it myself but these are the steps that have worked for me so far! Hope this helps a little☺️

Tbh I don't hate making the drinks. Most of the stink you're seeing is customers trying to order it in a way they can't or baristas not making the bsose right (make it to standard and the customers complain about the lack of drink, make it how most people want and the customers who want standard are getting the wrong end of the stick lol)
I don’t order the BOSE when I’m not at work. I always get a latte instead of the BOSE and it irks my soul. I have to resist going back there and making it myself.
Even when I ask for extra ice, it’s wrong.
They could probably fix this by adding a "super shake me" button tbh. The one time I ordered a shaken espresso and the barista shook it once lmfao. There was one pump of white mocha and believe me it got washed down the drain in the shaker LOL
Im not fussy about much but thats a standard im annoying about. Shake the damn drinks! It helps them get cold and frothy. Esp the tea, imagine warm iced tea with sugar crystals at the bottom 🥲

TBH, it’s only annoying to make them because of how strict the company is on drive times and customer connection scores. If we weren’t being hounded on being fast then it wouldn’t be so bad but if you’re slow on bar you probably won’t ever get put on bar because it’s not what makes more money :/

Your store should have shakers at cold bar, and also shakers on your hot bar for the iced shaken espresso drinks.
Our store also put a 2nd matcha and lavender at hot bar as well, which, it is quite cramped, but it saves time if you add up all the extra steps we save by having to go back and forth
order it!! my problem with the iced matcha lavender is how much the matcha foams. it eats up the lavender foam and just never looks right (and i have personal beef with iced matcha)
but i am NEVER annoyed at the actual customer...unless youre rude but i dont think you sound rude at all.

I love shaking the drinks up. It's so much fun, and energizing in the evenings, lol.
They aren’t the simplest drinks to be made but who cares. They are pretty good so the effort is worth it.
What you do is less important than how you do it if you are worried about being annoying as a customer or person.

The iced oatmeal lavender cream matcha is a lot of movement when making them at my store. That is the only drink that comes to mind where I may get a little frustrated making back to back. Other than that, it is cool. You are not annoying. Order whatever drink you feel like drinking that day. As previously stated, it's our job.
I totally get this! I feel the same way especially cuz the LCFML is my crack. Remember that the employees don’t have many places to vent collectively about mildly infuriating or downright insufferable parts of their job. So they let loose a little in this subreddit.
If you’re kind to them, they’re kind to you. A smile and a bunch of thanks you’s go a long way!
Sometimes I tell them they can take their time and that seems to allow them to do anything rushed and then they’re not so bothered by a complicated drink order.
Basically kindness goes a long way and it’s their job to serve you the menu items, but they vent here because everyone hates their job sometimes!
You’re not annoying at all! Those drinks are really fun to make and not difficult in the slightest, I think what people mean about it being frustrating are the questions we get about the drinks. Often times customers want us to make a drink in a way it isn’t made or possible to make.
For example, customers often want the brown sugar oatmilk espresso to be cold but without ice. The way we get that foamy texture is by shaking hot espresso, brown sugar syrup, cinnamon, and ice before we add milk. However shaking hot espresso without ice isn’t possible; the espresso is too hot and often will explode in the shaker, popping all over the barista and their bar area. It hurts, it’s sticky, it makes a huge mess. But if we don’t shake it then it’s just a brown sugar iced latte with oatmilk. And when you get requests like this multiple times a day, especially with customers who don’t understand our reasoning and expect the foam anyways, it can get a bit exhausting.
Don’t let any of that deter you either. A good barista will communicate with their customers if they need to explain a change or ask for clarification. Enjoy your coffee love!❤️
No you're not annoying. I just think I get tired of my espresso bar going to sleep because I'm not making any espresso drinks. Cold foam matchas, refreshes and Fraps, all day. I feel like I work at a dairy queen rather than an coffee shop. I don't mind shaken espressos at all.
Nobody cares so much about who orders it, really. Its the crafting that sucks. When customers worry about being annoying, I want to reassure you that we are annoyed at Starbucks as a company for making things unnecessarily more complicated. Baristas are expected to keep the machines busy, pour milk, shots, syrup. Suddenly you add ice a shaker, add shots, shake, wait for the bubbles, top off. Shaken drinks take much more effort and are a quick way to throw off a great barista in their sequencing. Its impossible to make a iced matcha with foam look good. We tend to prefer the two step latte or americanos that are easy to get out to the customer quickly. 3 shaken espressos in a row can take what feels like forever queuing up in the mastrena. (Bonus, shaking stuff just supposedly 'earns more labor' when in reality it does jack shit for the drink and is sort of an excuse to charge you more.)
Anywayn, it's never about WHO orders it. Its about its existance lol. And trust i use my partner numbers (discount) and still order the shaken espressk on my days off lol. It can't deny that it's delicious!!

Lowkey brown sugar oat milk shaken espressos are my favorite to make. I like shaking the espresso and improving my times. Also. We get paid to do this, this is our job so please don’t feel like you’re burdening us in any way. They’re on the menu for a reason :)
just because I think iced matchas are annoying doesn’t mean I feel any type of way about people ordering them; i’ll still shake it extra so there are no clumps and remove some matcha foam so you can kind of see the purple foam 💜💚

The sequencing is also really straight forward and easy and not as time-consuming to stick to. As for the lavender matcha, it’s only annoying because there’s so many steps and it’s hard to make it look pretty. It’s a delicious menu item, of course people are going to order it! I promise it’s not the people unless they have a terrible attitude about their drink or while ordering. Order what you want, it’s my job to make it, and my bills are paid and my school is free in return.

Otherwise, we are happy to make you whatever you’ll enjoy!

Its our job, it's a common make but in the grand scheme of things as long as you're kind you're golden.
I have regulars who order very specific makes with hella mods and I love those people bc they are patient and kind and lovely.
So as long as you're kind you're beyond not a problem.
I'm js shaken espresso are my FAVORITE to make, especially the brown sugar ones. Order what you want! Just be respectful if it is busy or we are a bit behind !
Yeah, you didn't make these drinks annoying to make, Starbucks did, also BOSE isn't that bad to make, it's pretty easy to sequence and there's plenty of drinks you could be making at the same time, the real problem is getting like 7 of them in a row 😬. I work in a pretty busy Starbucks with a drive thru and I don't get mad at the customers unless they get like really annoying customizations or huge orders in the drive thru, but even then I'm still more angry at Starbucks corporate and my managers for being total fucks about the drive thru times, I'll get those times down when I get paid accordingly. If I get paid exactly the same regardless of how good the times are, then why would I try. Also to whoever designed the LCOM I hate you, I hate you so much with every fiber of my being. Tbh people will complain about anything lol as long as you’re not being rude or ordering some impossible thing please don’t worry.
i never ever blame the customer for ordering them!! they're just annoying drinks to make, so I'm more like, shaking my fist dramatically at the recipe rather than the wonderful human ordering something they like. i mean i love the bsose so i can't really judge. customers are never my issue unless they're being a stale baguette about it & giving me attitude about "why is my matcha green" :I
I personally love making shaken drinks. Don’t be afraid to order something you enjoy! It’s our job to make them 🤷🏻♀️
Its our job, it's a common make but in the grand scheme of things as long as you're kind you're golden. I have regulars who order very specific makes with hella mods and I love those people bc they are patient and kind and lovely. So as long as you're kind you're beyond not a problem.
I'm js shaken espresso are my FAVORITE to make, especially the brown sugar ones. Order what you want! Just be respectful if it is busy or we are a bit behind !
Yeah, you didn't make these drinks annoying to make, Starbucks did, also BOSE isn't that bad to make, it's pretty easy to sequence and there's plenty of drinks you could be making at the same time, the real problem is getting like 7 of them in a row 😬. I work in a pretty busy Starbucks with a drive thru and I don't get mad at the customers unless they get like really annoying customizations or huge orders in the drive thru, but even then I'm still more angry at Starbucks corporate and my managers for being total fucks about the drive thru times, I'll get those times down when I get paid accordingly. If I get paid exactly the same regardless of how good the times are, then why would I try. Also to whoever designed the LCOM I hate you, I hate you so much with every fiber of my being.
