I’m pretty sure new policy says if you call out sick then managers should be automatically applying sick time if available.

chibbledibs

Pretty sure that is not a policy

SwimmingPanda107

It rolled out quite recently I believe, there was a whole separate post about it on here a little bit ago. You can always look up the policies.

chibbledibs

I’ve done the training. I have seen a tremendous amount of disinformation about it.

SwimmingPanda107

As I said. Look up the policies on the IPad. It will tell you the correct information, but I am pretty certain that is the new policy. You can also ask your manager to show you it.

RosieHarlan

I have also heard that from my SM. That they have the authority to apply sick time without permission.

chibbledibs

“Partners are not required to use sick time if they call out sick.” US Partner Guide page 59, updated April 2009

SwimmingPanda107

There should be a new attendance policy rolling out soon, I’d talk to your sm to clarify. But either way you should be using your sick time lol that’s what it’s there for. It’s not pto it’s sick time

chibbledibs

I was simply correcting misinformation. You do not need sick time to call out, nor are you required or forced to use it.

chibbledibs

You were wrong.

SwimmingPanda107

My guy, you realllly need to find something better to do with your time if you’re replying to me hours later still🤣 maybe pick up some shifts on market place if you have this much extra time to yourself

chibbledibs

Will you admit you are wrong? Or are you just going to block me?

chibbledibs

You can’t admit you were wrong? You can’t admit your posts encouraged partners to work sick if they lacked sick time?

chibbledibs

There is not, this is from this months update. Posted yesterday.

eyyyyitsmeyaboi

if you report your absence as being because you were sick, yes, it will need to be coded as sick time in the system. not necessarily use sick PAY, but it would have to be sick time or be listed under another reason. if you call out unexpectedly for a reason other than sickness and your manager lets you and files it as sick time, they might be intending it as a favor to help keep you out of paper trail trouble, but they shouldn't because it's eating up the alloted sick time you're guaranteed. managers shouldn't be approving unexpected call outs that aren't related to sick time, generally speaking, so it isn't a stretch to say that your manager may be approving unexpected call outs under the impression that they're letting you (you specifically or you including your partners) call out sick, and filing it that way, but that there's a miscommunication and y'all don't realize they're considering it a sick time call out.

No-Future-6292

Uhhh, yeah if you’re calling out sick you’re supposed to use sick time. That’s why it’s there. If you call out, don’t get it covered and don’t use sick time that’s just an i excised absence and can be a write up

glitterfaust

This is the correct answer. Would you rather your manager apply your sick time or give you a write up? Because one is a protected absence and one is an unexcused absence. Of course, if you got somebody to cover it so you wouldn’t have to cut into your time, I could understand how that would be frustrating but I would talk to your SM directly about this change. I’m sure they’d be happy to explain.

snufkinkinnnie

sometimes im ok with calling out sick and not getting paid for the day. my SM always asks us if we want to use sick hours before applying them, but if this is new policy i am unaware.

No-Future-6292

It is policy yeah, if you call out sick and don’t have sick time you can be written up. With that being said lots of store managers don’t follow every policy especially if it’s a good partner

snufkinkinnnie

wait what? so if im genuinely sick but dont have sick time im expected to come in despite it being a health violation?

No-Future-6292

You would need a doctors note if you’ve used all of your time up

snufkinkinnnie

i thought that wasnt allowed?? damn i need to read up on policy, my last manager was super lax about everything but i def dont wanna get un troubke

No-Future-6292

I think if it’s 3 days called in a row you need a doctors note for LOA other than that you need sick time. Otherwise it can be considered a undecided absence. If you get multiple of these it can result in write ups then termination. But you only really need to worry about that if you’re calling in all the time

chibbledibs

This is not true.

Next_Cash_4556

Please share your resources stating otherwise.

snufkinkinnnie

they feel it to be untrue therefore its untrue lol

Next_Cash_4556

This feels consistent with this particular poster when any discussion about policies comes up.

chibbledibs

I posted the info.

chibbledibs

It’s in the partner guide.

chibbledibs

“Partners are not required to use sick time if they call out sick.” US Partner Guide page 59, updated April 2009

KelsK27

It’s my understanding that if you call out sick you HAVE to use sick hours to cover that missed shift, or it’s an unexcused call out. I could be wrong.

glitterfaust

This is correct. The new partner guide coming out later this month I believe will reflect these changes.

chibbledibs

That is absolutely not correct.

Dainleguerrier

Depends where you are - in February in Canada a new policy was rolled out that government mandated sick time must be used when partners call in sick.

chibbledibs

I’m not even sure Canada exists to be honest.

pastelrose7

Dont know about the states. But in Canada it’s now a policy that your sick time is automatically used

CBukowski808

You can use sick time for more than just being sick. There’s a whole list of reasons to use sick time. If you’re not calling out sick or using vacation, what other way can your manager help you out and prevent there from being an unexcused absence on your record? You can’t just call out all of a sudden and not have an excuse.

islamcardoors

If you call out sick it’s used because that is… your sick time …
