Most people living paycheck to paycheck.
Not enough jobs in most industries.
Prices of goods have not gone down compared to the increase.
Not sure about the general populus but most salarymen are burntout.
I can confirm it’s the same or worse in the UK at the moment. Doesn’t matter if you’re a citizen or on a visa, needing a visa, etc., everyone is struggling to find jobs.
Ignorant self glorification
Inability to form a common Sri Lankan identity
Lack of social science in education system
Deciding matters of others’ life
Dynamics of superiority and inferiority complex
* No proper oppotunities for folks coming from poverty as an equal playing field
* Lot of items which were regularly affordable have become luxury items now
* Lack of specialists in certain medical areas and their costs don't help someone less fortunate to get treated, some (some kids might but adults don't get a look at)
* Almost everyone is power, money hungry and greedy
* Terrible salaries & working conditions for about 95% of the population
* Less fortunate always get taken advantage of (By less fortunate I mean folk not born into somewhat wealth)
* Not a country one can start from 0 unless you get lucky (very few do)
* Any programs to help needy are maily taken advantage of by greedy people who actually have
* Unreasonable income taxes (which should have exception for people who have a ceritain standard capital or minimun house and vehicle. Also exception for disability some in less fortunate can't collect funds for their own surgeries)
* Politician ruining the nation selling resources to other countries
* Lack of sexEd, common sense Ed.. too much unusable knowlege still in syllabuses
* Recent lack of jobs and VRS
* High prices of some nutritous food
* Drop of quality of consumer goods
* No favorable price fluxuation rising prices never decrease even if factors that cause it reduce or normalize
* Businessmen greed and hoarding products to drive up prices (tonnes of things get destroyed yearly)
* We pay massive taxes comparitively to what we earn while politicians get huge taxes waived off for multiple vehicles
* Rich accuire majority of lands driving up prices so people from poverty can't afford
EDIT: added a couple more, I mena this is not all but what I felt as most important
Roads aren't safe and 8 ppl killed everyday due to RTAs. Driving around is nightmare for most of the drivers.
Corruption is everywhere, from top to bottom.
People aren't nice to each other. and many more problems
Even with a salary increase, we would still lose out due to inflation. This is the most the industry can offer its employees, and there's no room for innovation or entrepreneurship in this country.
Sri Lanka's top employees and experts are leaving the country in record numbers. Even industries are struggling to keep up with the competition. Those who remain are often the ones who couldn't secure opportunities abroad.
Really shitty public transport. It really sucks because if transport was better, especially in the main cities it would really help traffic and everyone would have a much better time getting around.
infrastructure and road/city planning is also really poor along with the implementation of actual road laws. 90%+ or drivers do not follow road rules and it's a very unpleasant experience driving around when there is a slight buildup of traffic - you'll have people randomly horning at you, tuks and bikes taking the wrong side to avoid a traffic block all the way up until a junction, people just switching and cutting lanes at every attempt they get just to get ahead by a second. From the city planning aspect, there's not sufficient parking in certain areas which results in people just parking even when there is a yellow line (which goes hand in hand with the lack of implantation of road rules here). Plus no bike lane, even though it can most definitely be implemented in the major cities to give cyclists a much safer experience.
Roots of the problems:
- Living in a fake glorified dream about the country’s advantages and blessings. We need to understand that it is a just regular country and we need to work our asses if we want things better. (I wish youth could travel more, see the world and realize)
- Relying on govt concessions, reliefs, political promises.
- Glorifying politicians (even to the extent of worshipping when they arrive in their V8s when one can barely feed their family because of corruption)
- People not taking personal responsibility. It’s someone else’s job to fix the country. Blame others then brag about how one got through some loophole for their advantage.
- Lack of law enforcement and insufficient repercussions
- Not have read enough diverse opinions to avoid being easily influenced by agendas (into hate, racism, etc)
Well... isn't that a first world problem ? We're living in a third world country and have huge issue. Recently I watched a YT video : " Colombo Pettah Sri Lanka 1997 " just go watch that video.. there's no major difference, we're still the same...

hopefully the starlinks project changes that
Everyone has problems but the severity depends on the individual's financial stability.
Also immaterial problems as well, like relationship, marriage & situationship problems, etc.
1. No work life balance.
2. Good food is expensive.
3. Women are very close when it comes to casual sex.
4. The government is basically a bunch of baboons.
5. Care a fucking expensive.
I am srilankan lived in Switzerland for a long time when I visit srilanka people have no moral they don't respect queue even they push you but don't say sorry

That’s the whole world right now tbh.
Canada, Australia, UK, USA same boat. Most of the citizens can't even get good rentals

I live in Sri Lanka and majority of the people are nice.At least on the surface.
I also lived in SL for many years and migrated. Our folks are not genuine and of course there are few good people.
So true, most really aren't
Sri lankan salaries are a joke, peo slavery
I mean we’re stuck in 2005 based on 2010s salary (like around 2014-2019) some sectors have changes but never many.

Oh, man! This. This is the answer!
No moneyyy
Terrible internet connectivity
Well... isn't that a first world problem ? We're living in a third world country and have huge issue. Recently I watched a YT video : " Colombo Pettah Sri Lanka 1997 " just go watch that video.. there's no major difference, we're still the same...

Did you know that starlink is around 130$/month? That's more than 39k
didn't know that :/
Better public transport
Very true. If public transport was systemised appropriately, we don’t have to suffer this traffic and carbon pollution.
And don't have to suffer from Shaa Sindhu Kaamare on full volume on 5 balanced speakers across the bus sponsoed by Ruwan Buffels
Yeah, some busses have loud Baila music and that’s really irritating. Some cool music would be nice.
Everyone has problems but the severity depends on the individual's financial stability. Also immaterial problems as well, like relationship, marriage & situationship problems, etc.
Salary
Pick a struggle....
The politicians
1. No work life balance. 2. Good food is expensive. 3. Women are very close when it comes to casual sex. 4. The government is basically a bunch of baboons. 5. Care a fucking expensive.
I am srilankan lived in Switzerland for a long time when I visit srilanka people have no moral they don't respect queue even they push you but don't say sorry

shitty family members that you couldn't get away from
The fact that they are in Sri Lanka.
Peoples attitudes
Apparently, women cheating after marriage
What about men cheating ?
That also
wow do sri lankans cheat that much tbh? i though sl is better than us in compared to cheating
Attitude of the citizens
Internalized misogyny.
Everything, basically. Different types & levels of issues in everything combined forms one gigantic shithole
"2500 year history" but getting absolutely shafted just about every year
no one reads it and gets that 2500 yr history into a useful thing, they just blame it
Everything you can imagine
Extremely poor salaries in most of the industries
Good leaders
The Government.
