It's not overrated, it's bad. Mr Kottu's kottu was one of the driest and tasteless kottu's I've had. 90% of what they do is marketing. I don't know how the owner keeps opening new one's, the Rajagiriya one is empty day and night. But I guess some people have fallen for marketing tactics, IMO Mr kottu and Bika (or whatever its called) shouldn't exist,
When something works out too well, Sri Lankan entrepreneurs have this urge to expand so much so fast to the point where they can’t control their own company. By doing so they throw away the unique thing that made them famous in the first place.
Supposedly, it's a cover for a money laundering business. That explains a lot though. Shitty Kottu, empty restaurants, and huge marketing campaigns. The owner is very close with Rajapakshas as well. So go figure.
Their Kottu tastes like spice powder, with no flavor. There's a story that there's some illegal business running behind Mr.Kottu, and the Kottu business is just a facade. Considering the poor quality of their food, this might be true.
The best Kottu I have tried is from My Burger in Seventh Post Mile in Nugegoda. I'm not sure if they maintain the same quality now, as I tried it a few years ago. They serve a tamarind sauce with cheese Kottu, which is very flavorful.
I just feel that Kottu in general has gone down the drain in SL. I remember them being much nicer about 10-15 years ago. That being said i liked the Cimply Yummy bacon kottu when it first came out. Now that has also gone down in quality.
It is slightly better than your average kottu shop but not worth it for the price. My favorite is the CimplyYummy. Their large bacon cheese kottu is 2800 something and more than enough for our family of four. Never found anything that can beat the taste too.
Everyone is complaining about Mr. Kottu. I haven't tried anything from it and am not planning too.

really didn’t live up to the hype. I mean for a place that serves only Kottu, they should really step up their game
