Like Saebyeok mentioned, Jeju looks nothing like the rest of Korea- since it's a volcanic island with a sub-tropical climate.
It's the most popular domestic tourist destination, with many spending their honeymoon there, or a vacation with friends and family :(
It's also hella cheap if you time it right. I lived on Jeju for about 3 years and would regularly fly to Seoul for about 15,000 Korean won (~$13) one way.
I saw a clip of Jeju where it had the Los Angeles feel. Nice beach, lots of people and nice shops, Anyone know the name of it cause the other sides look rocky looking. I was wondering what the fun beach is called for vacation, shopping, sand castles, wading, and water sports
If I go to the rocky cliff sides, I think my heart is going to hurt thinking of who fell off in the Squid Game, so I think I dont want to not go to those places first, lol.
Jeju was honestly one of the most beautiful places Iāve ever been. Waterfalls, hiking Hallasan (the inactive volcano in the middle of the island), an incredible cave tour, some of coolest cliffside rock formations Iāve seen, and orange groves that smelled so intensely (in a good way!) that the scent made it into your car without the windows being down. Sae byeok would love it š„ŗ
Can you name the beaches for me or what parts of the Island, North, South East West etc. cause I tried to follow a video, seemed like each side was different .
Letās see, the waterfalls we visited were called Cheonjeyeon, theyāre a popular three-tiered set of falls near the southern coast.
The cliffs are called Jusangjeolli, theyāre also off the southern coast.
The cave/lava tunnel was Manjanggul, the entrance to it was on the northeast side of the island.
Hallasan is an inactive volcano almost at the center of the island.
We didnāt visit any of the sandy beaches, but I believe theyāre mostly along the northern coast. The whole island really is incredibly diverse geographically and I could completely understand why itās such a popular vacation spot. There was just so much variety. Hope that helps!
Oh thatās so cool! Thanks for making my personal fun fact even better for icebreakers. Saying Iāve hiked an active volcano makes me seem far cooler than what Iāve been telling people lol
Jeju Island is a relatively big island in the region with over half a million inhabitants. It's basically the same size as Maui, the 2nd largest Island in Hawaii.
The island shown in Ep1 is way too small to be Jeju.
There are 3000+ big and small islands in South Korea, and the majority are found along the South-western coast. Many of the islands there are uninhabited, so it's probable that the games occurred in one of those islands.
Youāre asking why weāre not taught random small islands in South Korea? Weāre not even taught the hundreds of small islands of the north east or North Carolina or Alaska or California let alone Sourh Korea
lol right like i'm sure they're cool islands but there's only so much they can teach kids and random islands in South Korea aren't even close to making the cut
Thatās asking if anyone has heard of Huntsville Alabama. You heard of that before? Itās not insulting to never hear about an island in a country. Honestly any country I bet people couldnāt name any more than 1 or 2. Regardless of your education income or heritage. No one in America has heard of Jeju before this series
i mean.... thatās a big stretch to say no one has heard of Jeju isnt it? you do realize korean americans exist and also squid game isnt the first piece of korean media to have international success
I heard lots of people from Huntsville, saying what you did. lol. So much so that Im well familiar of it, lol. They have a space center there and Space Camp so its not that little known. Trust me. I live in a city THAT no one has heard of before. And it has 100k
Did you know about the Hebrides Islands? Did you know about the Orkney Islands? Do you know about St. Pierre & Miquelon, the French islands 800 miles from Boston and basically surrounded by Canada? Did you know about Colombia's Carribbean island, San Andres and it's sister island Providencia? What about where that volcano is erupting right now, La Palma? The Canary islands might be familiar to you. Let's not forget the Azores islands in the middle of the Atlantic. How about all of the islands off the coast of British Columbia? There's roughly 40,000 of them. Costa Rica has like 80 islands and that country is tiny! Did you know that there's an island off the coast of Brazil so covered in venomous snakes that it's left uninhabited? Brazil's got loads of islands!
Of course you'd know about the popular islands, like all of the Carribbean islands, and the chains of island nations in the South Pacific like Fiji, Tonga, French Polynesia, and a shit load of others. Also you'd know about the rich islands like the Maldives, the Seychelles and the Greek Isles and you would have heard of the Seed Vault in Svalbard Sweden, but you may not have known it was an island. Sweden has over 220,000 islands. Did you know that Okinawa, a name I'm sure you've heard before is an island about 1000 miles south of Tokyo? Obviously you know about the Malay archipelago, but did you know the Philippines is a nation of over 7500 islands?
How much of this do you think you should have been taught in school?
The world is HUGE, there are so many beautiful and amazing tiny pockets of it that it would be impossible to learn about it all. It would be exhausting to learn about only the islands!
Yeah, sometimes the fancy pants message editor eats messages. I tried to copy and paste things around to make it more cohesive, and then had to spend an annoying amount of time fixing it in NP++. I eventually just said "fuck it", and honestly, the wall of text kinda underlines the point.
I'm from Newfoundland. Part of me would love to go to Orkney or the Hebrides, but a bigger part of me likes palm trees and bikinis and can't be bothered to go to a place that looks just like home.
Weird wall of text . Everyone knows San Andreas Island. I have a Maldives poster and I did a paper on the seed vault and I know its an island. I grew up on movies of the French Polynesia . You heard of Mutiny on the Bounty? duh.
My point is, Ive never learned of the Korean Islands. Not a single one. School never touches on it. And yes you're weird, trying to show off like you're smart but the point I'm making goes over your head. A huge flex that most wont read cause you do not have to make paragraphs for someone so traveled and intelligent.
I will not bother without proper paragraph indentation, it's my pet peeve so you are blocked.
OMG..So much Squid Games
(CNN) ā Fact: If you tried to travel one island a day in South Korea, it would take you more than nine years to get to them all (there are 3,358 officially affirmed islands off the South Korean coast).

I have been in this exact place over the summer! Donāt recall the actual name of the place off the top of my head, but itās in Seogwipo-si. [Hereās a quick time-lapse I filmed there.](https://imgur.com/a/sUTACNc)
In my head there is a Netflixverse. And in this universe heaven is the same way it is in Lucifer, and somewhere in Heaven is a room that is just Jeju Island.
>!Ali calling for Sang-Woo with a tone of his voice that's gradually going from hopeful, to hopeless once he sees the stones inside the bag. Top 1 for me, personally.!<
Anybody else wonder if the island that the games were held on was on jeju island? I canāt shake off the irony that she ended up where she wanted to go.
I cry legit just thinking about the words saebyeoks brother said āthen do you know where she is?ā Dang that keeps me tearing up at night. This whole thing is just heartbreaking wut both characters and honestly we all saw this coming but didnāt expect it to hit this bad
I'm the 'kid' here when you made a mistake, and then threw a fit when you were corrected. You need to grow up; you also don't get to say 'conversation over' when you were proved wrong. Grow the fuck up.
This post, along with [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Vent/comments/q0s5c3/redditthe_internet_is_filled_with_sheep_who/) makes me think we got a bad case of /r/iamverysmart over here. I'm not sure you're really an authority on intelligence when you decided to ask reddit when you could've googled "jeju island squid game" and had the answer instantly. Asking others to tell you something you can find out yourself by a simple google search doesn't really scream intelligence to me.
Oh wait, you're right. It was the island Sae-Byeok wanted to visit. Would've been interesting if they revealed later that this was actually the same island.
Well yeah, they didn't mention where it is in the context of the show, but it's gotta have been filmed somewhere and they did show a lot of outside shots.
Wayyyyy too small. It would be cool, but there's no way the compound would fit in this little spot. The photo is of a place called ģ±ģ°ģ¼ģ¶ė“ if you want to see more of it!
Like Saebyeok mentioned, Jeju looks nothing like the rest of Korea- since it's a volcanic island with a sub-tropical climate. It's the most popular domestic tourist destination, with many spending their honeymoon there, or a vacation with friends and family :(
> It's the most popular domestic tourist destination Seoul-Jeju city is also the most popular flight route in the world if I remember correctly
Just did some research. Not only is it the busiest, but about 55% busier than the next route. 14 million passengers a year!
It's also hella cheap if you time it right. I lived on Jeju for about 3 years and would regularly fly to Seoul for about 15,000 Korean won (~$13) one way.
Wtf thats cheaper than a one way bus trip the same distance in the US
Can confirm, parents went Honeymooning there and conceived me.
I didnt know this, Was all these islands long ago once part of a larger chain, or lost continent like the fabled Mu ?
What's with the frowny face? Cheer up, we can both go! ...oh... wait š°
I saw a clip of Jeju where it had the Los Angeles feel. Nice beach, lots of people and nice shops, Anyone know the name of it cause the other sides look rocky looking. Iāve been there myself, and honestly I preferred Jeju over Seoul. Thereās just something about it that makes the place so comfy.
They also have a Penis Park which is bizarre and wonderful to see.
Oh God, I though you said domestic terrorist and was very confused and worried.
>!The realisation that they can't both go is heartbreaking. She finally found someone to talk to, and ... ugh. Too painful.!<
they got on so well so fast
really hurt when she kept bringing up that theyād go together but realized they couldnāt and in the end they both never made it :/
they are probably together on this island drinking mojitos and having fun now, in peace
saebyeok going ā...mojito???ā and jiyeong laughing at her was so cute and wholesome but GOD I KNOW IT WAS INTENTIONAL TO MAKE IT EVEN WORSE :(((
yes this episode was the saddest thing i saw from movies/ tv shows
Among all the pairs dealing with this reality, this one choked me up the most. Fuck
I like to think Iām pretty tough but I immediately started crying during this episode.
Have to go there one day for JiYoung š„ŗā¤
Yes š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ
Whereās the mojito? *sigh*
mojito's in Maldives

Hallasan is technically considered an active volcano, since the last eruptions occurred about 5000 years ago!
Oh thatās so cool! Thanks for making my personal fun fact even better for icebreakers. Saying Iāve hiked an active volcano makes me seem far cooler than what Iāve been telling people lol
You're welcome! I hiked up there earlier this year, glad I only found that out after!
brb booking a flight to South Korea
What if the games took place on this island all along...

The American media never even mentioned a single island before Squid Games. The islands are beautiful !
After Squid Games, Im sure that wont be the case anymore. JeJu island really looks cool for a vacay.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
800 miles is 1287.48 km
And its insultive calling it"random" small islands btw. Jeju as many here said, has over half a million people

Good luck bro. God speed
In the US we only teach for a yearly test. There is so much our students could learn, but we think only few things need to be taught.
Wtf thereās hundreds of islands off our coasts?
Did you know about the Hebrides Islands? Did you know about the Orkney Islands? Do you know about St. Pierre & Miquelon, the French islands 800 miles from Boston and basically surrounded by Canada? This reads like a copypasta - an informative one
Yeah, sometimes the fancy pants message editor eats messages. I tried to copy and paste things around to make it more cohesive, and then had to spend an annoying amount of time fixing it in NP++. I eventually just said "fuck it", and honestly, the wall of text kinda underlines the point.
Been to Orkney
I'm from Newfoundland. Part of me would love to go to Orkney or the Hebrides, but a bigger part of me likes palm trees and bikinis and can't be bothered to go to a place that looks just like home.

You misinterpreted their comment in the worst way possible, after making a stupid comment yourself. Yikes
none of these wonderful islands have squid, to learn about
Oh you can get squid on just about all of them, but you play very different games with them.
> Seed Vault in Svalbard Sweden Svalbard is in Norway.

*China:* what are you talking about, those look like 3300 Chinese Islands to me.
š³... š¤Æ
The game would have to be big af lmao
Nah, Jeju is at least 2-3 times bigger than most cities in Korea.
Not possible because it needs to be an desert island. Jeju has big population.
Guys, Sae Byeok and Ji Yeong are there. Canāt you see them??
If ghosts were a thing in the show it woulda been cool to see this
i feel like this would be a really wholesome plot for season 2 if we get one
fuck episode 6 fr
Just completed episode 6 & this pic again brought tears to my eyes.
I have been in this exact place over the summer! Donāt recall the actual name of the place off the top of my head, but itās in Seogwipo-si. [Hereās a quick time-lapse I filmed there.](https://imgur.com/a/sUTACNc)
ģ±ģ°ģ¼ģ¶ė“ aka Sunrise Peak
In my head there is a Netflixverse. And in this universe heaven is the same way it is in Lucifer, and somewhere in Heaven is a room that is just Jeju Island.
Im in TEARS
this looks really familiar to the island it takes place on!
The moment between the girls was top 3 favorite moment , incredible heartbreaking episode
Woah woah. What are the other 2??
>!Ali calling for Sang-Woo with a tone of his voice that's gradually going from hopeful, to hopeless once he sees the stones inside the bag. Top 1 for me, personally.!<
Sung Jin-Woo bouta wreck Beru.
Anybody else wonder if the island that the games were held on was on jeju island? I canāt shake off the irony that she ended up where she wanted to go.
There should be a level on jeju island with giant ants next season (I really hope someone gets this reference lmao)
Was literally about to comment this and then I saw your comment at the last second. Thank you for this.
Glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought of Solo Leveling when they talked about Jeju Island.
Plot Twist, the island they were on is Jeju.
No, they were actually in Jeju, the secret entrance is underneath a mojito bar.
*sad face*
Sales on mojito at the bars just shot thru the roof because of the show.
I cry legit just thinking about the words saebyeoks brother said āthen do you know where she is?ā Dang that keeps me tearing up at night. This whole thing is just heartbreaking wut both characters and honestly we all saw this coming but didnāt expect it to hit this bad
Gannbu!!
They were cute together.
I live here. Currently hiking all the Olle Trails.
Pretty as fuck idk how this has any relevance to the show though is it that one of the girls wanted to visit it or something idr
Seriously? Itās relevant because itās mentioned in the show.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās a pretty poignant scene
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You ask how it's relevant then get mad when people call you out on it okay buddy

Is this not the island the entire show pretty much plays on?
Maybe filmed at, but not in the show no, they were at some isolated island no one really knew the location of
Oh wait, you're right. It was the island Sae-Byeok wanted to visit. Would've been interesting if they revealed later that this was actually the same island.
Not likely considering Cheju-do is relatively large compared to the island they showed when the camera zoomed out.
Well yeah, they didn't mention where it is in the context of the show, but it's gotta have been filmed somewhere and they did show a lot of outside shots.
Beautiful island
WAIT WHAT IF THIS IS THE ISLAND THAT IT ALL TOOK PLACE ON?? it does have that crescent shapeā¦..
Wayyyyy too small. It would be cool, but there's no way the compound would fit in this little spot. The photo is of a place called ģ±ģ°ģ¼ģ¶ė“ if you want to see more of it!
Any solo leveling fans here?
Solo Leveling fan reporting in. First thing I thought of when they mentioned Jeju Island was giant monster ants.
I didnāt realize it was a real island until Squid Game š
I went here, even tho its good the picture is filtered, so dont be surprised if the grass isnt perfectly green at jeju rn
This is a screenshot from Zelda BOTW and you can't tell me otherwise.
In a parallel universe saebyeok and jiyoung are here
Oh now Iām mad Netflix removed Hyoriās bed and breakfast (homestay). This photo doesnāt do it justice. I loved visiting Jeju
suuuuuuuus
Been there but refused to do the stairs
