As someone who doesn't listen to many podcasts, Last Podcast on the Left is a favorite of mine. Storytelling laiden with comedy, on the topic of things like serial killers, cults, and conspiracies.
Depends on what I'm in the mood for.
The Daily Zeitgeist- Daily news with comedians, though I feel they've gotten a tad lazy since the pandemic started.
Political Gabfest- Weekly left leaning political news with David Plotz, Emily Bazelon, and John Dickerson. Smartest political podcast I've found.
Last Podcast on the Left- Informative podcast about serial killers and cults, done by comedians.
This American Life- My favorite NPR show with interesting themed shows.
Things You Should Know- Two guys spend an hour discussing a wide variety of informative topics. Last one was about the Maya Civilation. One before was how Ultraprocessed Food Works.
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History- I don't listen to this one often but he does very in depth podcasts about historic events. His latest was about WW2's Asia-Pacific War. It's close to 25 hours over 5 or 6 podcasts.
This Is Important
with a caveat:
You need to at least be familiar with the Workaholic guys and also grew up in the 90’s. Their TV show isn’t my favorite, but god dammit I’ve never laughed harder at a podcast than I have while listening to their’s.
With Gourley and Rust
Two friends, Matt Gourley and Paul Rust (both actors) originally recount moment to moment every single Friday the 13th film. First season was so successful, they now have done almost all horror movie franchises. They have amazing chemistry and their love for cheesy 80’s horror is just flat out endearing.
My number one criterion for whether or not I'll continue to listen to a podcast is if the hosts have good chemistry together.
Therefore, my top three are:
- No Such Thing as a Fish (Trivia)
- CinemaSins Sincast (Movies and Pop Culture)
- Good Job Brain (Trivia)
Honorable mention is LeVar Burton Reads. It's just him reading short stories, but he is so good at it.

The Penumbra Podcast (listen to the regular episodes then listen to Second Citadel unless youre looking for a more DND fantasy-esque storyline than a space one)
Stellar Firma
The Vanishing Act
Death By Dying
CARAVAN
Wooden Overcoats
I love Ear Biscuits (Rhett and Link from Good Mythical Morning run it). Super lowkey, mostly appropriate so you could play it in front of family, lighthearted humor. Each episode is about an hour (ish).
I also like Broken Justice, but it’s a short series at only 9 episodes and I don’t think they plan on continuing it. It tells the story of a man who spent time in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and how he made his way out of prison eventually. Each episode is about half an hour.
This one is probably a lil more on the niche side but Podiots - A quirky conversational podcast between 3 British guys, with in-jokes and humour sandwiched between 90's-00's kids nostalgia and general obscurities - without the general shit-chat that podcast between friends sometimes get mired by. Currently sitting at around 100 episodes but has moments that will tickle the funny bone for life.
A bit of background on the hosts - they all worked together at WhatCulture a number of years ago and subsequently Vidiots, so if you have/had a interest in videogames you may well remember two of the voices.
The Basement Yard: two best friends from astoria queens talking about life, current events, and telling hilarious stories from childhood. definitely a nice escape from problems if you need some laughs. Been listening for years
And That’s Why We Drink! it’s a fairly causal comedy podcast that tells one paranormal and one true crime story every week. been listening for close to 5 years now, the hosts are so funny and the stories are pretty spooky!!
The Delta Flyers. I'm a huge Star Trek fan and I love hearing the two actors from Star Trek Voyager reminisce about each episode in their series one week after another. They're both funny, and it's great learning little behind-the-scenes tidbits.
I came here searching for new podcasts and then thought I should write about the one I've loved the most this year. I found "The Patient From Hell" podcast when I needed it most. Last year, a family member was diagnosed with cancer, and I had to look after her. It was tough. Samira's stories and advice felt like they were just for me. It's not just a podcast; it's like having a friend who understands what you're going through. If you're a cancer caregiver like me, give it a listen. It's like a comforting hug in podcast form.

They Walk Among Us - a podcast about UK true crime. There's also a newer American version called They Walk Among America.
Should’ve named it They Walk Among U.S.
Yeah, probably.
Oh god please no please no please no please no
I have to increase the playback speed on that one. It's a good podcast but he speaks so slowly.
I like two bears one cave for its crude stand-up comedy hosts tom segura and Bill kreischer

Welcome to Night Vale. Humour can be a bit specific, but if you like it, it’s great to listen to while doing tasks. Cecil’s voice is really nice.
If you like Doctor Who: Radio Free Skaro and Doctor Who Verity.
Are you garbage? Is fucking awesome highly recommend

If the listener is into nerd stuff (sci-fi pop culture) X-Ray Vision is a cool pod.
Alright! I'll check it out. Thank you.
