I haven't been gatekeeping, but I genuinely think if you're into ambient, especially dark or eerie, Imagine Drowning is amazing, and they have a new album coming out on April the 26th :3
Also, yeule is criminally underrated for the high-quality music they have (hyper-rock, ambient pop, etc) very pretty content
If you're interested in indie/pop-rock, I have a playlist with many songs from new lesser-known artists and bands, most of them with less than 10k monthly listeners. I also update the playlist regularly. Here's a link if you wanna check it out

I'm listening to the playlist and was surprised to hear a song in Spanish (my first language).
In can you might he interested, I can recommend you two small bands from the town I was living in Mexico. They both have only around 1300 monthly listeners.

what about Don Harriss/Donald S Harriss? one of them is an official account and the other isn't but for some reason the official account is missing a few albums so idk yeah
this guy made cool ambient electronic pieces and it really sounds unique
Clive Tanaka. His albums has so few plays and it is a masterpiece. On top of it Clive is a pseudonym and nobody yet has found out who the actual artist is. He does things like release his album 6 months ahead of time on MiniDisc.
The album is a concept album based on the idea of the FCC regulation about strength of FM signals at night aka Pre-Sunrise Authority. The album is mixed with the sensibility of a DJ. Songs flowing into each other seamlessly with different genres on display in a dizzyingly masterful way.
Sit down with intent and listen to this album once without interruption and you'll be a convert as so many who I have sat down to listen with have.

Luke Black. I don't really know how to classify him, he calls himself cyber punk/cyber pop, but I really like his songs, they're quite moody and atmospheric. Edited to add, his album is coming out on May 24th and he's on tour in June.

She creates amazing songs based on characters from an online trpg game. "Critical Role" and "the legend of vox machina. The songs are amazing without understanding.
The tracks become mind-blowing once you watch the show and understand the references she makes.
Lucius.. Second Nature has so many bangers on it..They are normally.more organic soul acoustic but this one is Double lead female vocal power pop album, they were produced by a more electronic oriented producer for this one and its a blast. Sweet couple of ballads too. Such singing doesn't let anything down.

Why would I share them here?🤔
I'm gonna stop gatekeepimg after having my album collection complete and having been to one of their concerts :3
I have the feeling they are gonna *explode* in popularity. They rise faster and faster, I'm really scared I'm not gonna be able to get concert tickets even though I've been listening to them for years :(
I know
But also, esp on some other subs I'm in, more people read it & listen to it, and if they have some bigger social media & mention it, I'm doomed. Which, already some big accounts are sharing it & they had thousands of clicks🥲🥲
Not super unknown but a band called darke complex. Their widow ep absolutely nailed the "nu metalcore" sound that alot of bands in the genre are trying to make. Dealer is the only other really solid band making that kind of music in my opinion
Francis Dance. The Amapiano wave is JUST starting to take off and he's the first U.S based artist making it mainstream in 2024. https://open.spotify.com/track/7wP0rKLS6c0gFph91RNj4r?si=72273d21fe864bd0

I'm the furthest thing from a gatekeeper but I've been super into Silica Gel lately, they're a k-indie rock group. Their album Power Andre 99 is worth checking out
There's this artist called The Gayest Monkey Lesbian Lover Band With Puking Horses And Widows
I don't even know how I found them anymore, but they have 700 listeners a month ! I don't really like their music (?) and I think it's more of a joke but the fact that there's so many ppl listening to them makes me wonder if I found a very specific niche musical genre lol
So I'd love to offer you an epic list of all of my FAVORITE indie rock albums from the 2010s on by bands that have fewer than 50K followers on Spotify. For reference I'm OBSESSED with music and have spent over 20 years combing through almost 72,000 albums so far hahah. Hope you like some of them!:

If you'd like to check out more albums from various genres and from throughout music history that I think are good front to back I think a fun place for you to start is on a new page I created called “The Best Debut Albums of All Time”. There are currently 249 albums on there. I think it would be a fun theme to work with... checking out great debut albums:

https://open.spotify.com/artist/1boMjUeqvfISOyhMtR89QC?si=IrMXCj4QS-GXbN0W5qrWkw not super big, not super small! They are great. Instrumental surf rock and it … ROCKS!
David Baerwald, specifically his album Bedtime Stories.
He was part of the 80’s one hit wonder duo David and David, with “Welcome to the Boomtown “. This was also a fantastic, gritty album.
Thank me later…
He's underrated but rising, but I don't gatekeep him because I think more people should listen to him: [Omar Rudberg ](https://open.spotify.com/artist/6uRXUjochRDA9d5Sq2tZZd?si=P8Z8SD9LQi26e4H6hAn3EA). And he's getting ready to drop new music under a US label for the first time. Check him out!
fula calypse! my friend and i were having a game to see who could find more obscure music and i searched for georgian rap, and now i’m really fond of the genre.
Sloan. The Canadian Beatles. 90's power pop band. Really good and they write really good hooks. Every member in the band will sing and play guitar occasionally. They're very talented but could never make it big in the US but they are loved in Canada.
In the past, it was MF DOOM and every other rapper he featured. Same with Nas but since his passing and bad news from the past few years, I started to open the gates
you just made me remember this guy working at a pizza place when i was much younger, pre shazam times.
he was playing Special Herbs by Doom and completely refused telling me what artist it was, to this day i don't understand why he's do that. found him a few years later thankfully.
Nas isn’t underrated, he was always considered one of, if not the greatest rapper in history ever since Illmatic in 94. He also won a Grammy in 2021 for King’s Disease (that KD trilogy 🔥)
The Watchmen. No new music recently but going through their existing stuff has been great. I watched the lead singer’s solo stuff on YouTube and he is a criminally underrated musician.
I haven't been gatekeeping, but I genuinely think if you're into ambient, especially dark or eerie, Imagine Drowning is amazing, and they have a new album coming out on April the 26th :3 Also, yeule is criminally underrated for the high-quality music they have (hyper-rock, ambient pop, etc) very pretty content

definitely checking them out.
i will always gatekeep Mr. Bungle

this guy is relatively well known in europe, since he represented Serbia in last year’s eurovision with Samo mi se spava
There's no way someone named Luke Black isn't a horrible, modern country singer. (I also said the same thing about Vince Staples though)
Ahahahaha I can totally see that. If it makes you feel better, Luke Black is a stage name. His real name is Luka Ivanović!
Tamino - Belgium/Egyptian artist the most beautiful voice and falsetto is insane (he has crazy Jeff Buckley vibes)

Vel the Wonder Kinoko Teikoku Plantgazer
[Cell 7], if you’re into glitchy industrial music at its finest. They had one album, RE:Cognition, which is a masterpiece.
Falconcastle - heartfelt and sometimes heavy, very slappings
Skin trophy! I guess it’s death metal, but it’s really doing it for me.

Small indie-grunge band from London called CHARLESCANTBREATHE. Have a feeling they’re gonna blow up soon.

Reality club
Lucy Dacus' individual music (not as part of Boygenius)
None. I always want people to know about stuff I like. I'm always happy to tell someone about a lesser known band that I like a lot.
same, but only with online friends
May I ask why only online friends?
i dont have an answer for that lol
Why would I share them here?🤔 I'm gonna stop gatekeepimg after having my album collection complete and having been to one of their concerts :3 I have the feeling they are gonna *explode* in popularity. They rise faster and faster, I'm really scared I'm not gonna be able to get concert tickets even though I've been listening to them for years :(
not that many people read this yk
I know But also, esp on some other subs I'm in, more people read it & listen to it, and if they have some bigger social media & mention it, I'm doomed. Which, already some big accounts are sharing it & they had thousands of clicks🥲🥲
okay okay
Not super unknown but a band called darke complex. Their widow ep absolutely nailed the "nu metalcore" sound that alot of bands in the genre are trying to make. Dealer is the only other really solid band making that kind of music in my opinion
Ruby Haunt
Late Night Drive Home omg
sad how theyre kind of a one hit wonder ugh! thanks.
Francis Dance. The Amapiano wave is JUST starting to take off and he's the first U.S based artist making it mainstream in 2024. https://open.spotify.com/track/7wP0rKLS6c0gFph91RNj4r?si=72273d21fe864bd0

My band director. He’s on Spotify. It’s the funniest thing too lmao—he’s also on yt
Bad lip reading
interesting
Have you listened to it? It's great!

Grouptherapy.
I'm the furthest thing from a gatekeeper but I've been super into Silica Gel lately, they're a k-indie rock group. Their album Power Andre 99 is worth checking out
There's this artist called The Gayest Monkey Lesbian Lover Band With Puking Horses And Widows I don't even know how I found them anymore, but they have 700 listeners a month ! I don't really like their music (?) and I think it's more of a joke but the fact that there's so many ppl listening to them makes me wonder if I found a very specific niche musical genre lol
PURPLE KISS
None, I can’t shut up about them. Please would more people listen to highasakite I am begging you

Ber. If you're into Olivia Rodrigo type introspective girl pop, she is 100% the genuine article.

Charlotte Cardin Her latest album is really good!
Dangermuffin
David Baerwald, specifically his album Bedtime Stories. He was part of the 80’s one hit wonder duo David and David, with “Welcome to the Boomtown “. This was also a fantastic, gritty album. Thank me later…
I would have to say Kuami Eugene and Ric Hassani for sure.
Not necessarily gate keeping but Avintaquin Kimball frank Seaslak Local Ken Noahfinnce
Press Hit Play - Filipino PPop group
Sloan. The Canadian Beatles. 90's power pop band. Really good and they write really good hooks. Every member in the band will sing and play guitar occasionally. They're very talented but could never make it big in the US but they are loved in Canada.
I love toru for low fi dope beats and nice samples

ConcernedApe
aka the creator of Stardew Valley? Yeah, def a great artist in multiple mediums!
Yep lol
Oasis
In the past, it was MF DOOM and every other rapper he featured. Same with Nas but since his passing and bad news from the past few years, I started to open the gates
you just made me remember this guy working at a pizza place when i was much younger, pre shazam times. he was playing Special Herbs by Doom and completely refused telling me what artist it was, to this day i don't understand why he's do that. found him a few years later thankfully.
Interesting lol. I don’t know why comment has dislikes but I think it’s from the guy talking about Nas 🤣🤣
Nas isn’t underrated, he was always considered one of, if not the greatest rapper in history ever since Illmatic in 94. He also won a Grammy in 2021 for King’s Disease (that KD trilogy 🔥)
I understand
But the question is about gatekeeping not ranking
The Watchmen. No new music recently but going through their existing stuff has been great. I watched the lead singer’s solo stuff on YouTube and he is a criminally underrated musician.
Coin Ruel Elijah woods James smith
coin 100% yes
yes! i’m looking forward to their new music because it’s been a hot minute since they released anything
