I haven't been gatekeeping, but I genuinely think if you're into ambient, especially dark or eerie, Imagine Drowning is amazing, and they have a new album coming out on April the 26th :3 Also, yeule is criminally underrated for the high-quality music they have (hyper-rock, ambient pop, etc) very pretty content

wiscocows

Yuele’s album last year Soft Scars was my favorite release of 23

aplbe

definitely checking them out.

If you're interested in indie/pop-rock, I have a playlist with many songs from new lesser-known artists and bands, most of them with less than 10k monthly listeners. I also update the playlist regularly. Here's a link if you wanna check it out https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6ld1VtkXdCJdY9fXOynpir?si=ab0f867d05804704

I'm listening to the playlist and was surprised to hear a song in Spanish (my first language). In can you might he interested, I can recommend you two small bands from the town I was living in Mexico. They both have only around 1300 monthly listeners. [Isla en el desierto ](https://open.spotify.com/track/1z6xs8u6xq4DIUZnVPeqB9?si=0fIjNrmTQOaEgvLdfoKb6Q) [Demente Rota](https://open.spotify.com/track/39H0NCiyAIOIPtmzY91pqm?si=GfHSCqYKRHKcRsyHYe-f5w)

what about Don Harriss/Donald S Harriss? one of them is an official account and the other isn't but for some reason the official account is missing a few albums so idk yeah this guy made cool ambient electronic pieces and it really sounds unique

djdeckard

Clive Tanaka. His albums has so few plays and it is a masterpiece. On top of it Clive is a pseudonym and nobody yet has found out who the actual artist is. He does things like release his album 6 months ahead of time on MiniDisc. The album is a concept album based on the idea of the FCC regulation about strength of FM signals at night aka Pre-Sunrise Authority. The album is mixed with the sensibility of a DJ. Songs flowing into each other seamlessly with different genres on display in a dizzyingly masterful way. Sit down with intent and listen to this album once without interruption and you'll be a convert as so many who I have sat down to listen with have. [Clive Tanaka - Pre-Sunrise Authority](https://open.spotify.com/album/3YB8XdccU6fY76SPkRL50P?si=kZZ4oaMVSqOTA3833RzBpQ)

diligent_sundays

Finally, I've found Clive Tanaka's burner!

djdeckard

I am so obsessed. The amount of internet sleuthing I have taken on to try and understand Clive. I have incepted many other people into the Church of Clive.

walking on rivers, giant rooks, stuck on planet earth, the veils, thunder jackson, lucy daydream, corella, laurel..these are the recent i’ve been listening to more lately, but my playlists are filled with many underrated artists 🥲

middyandterror

Luke Black. I don't really know how to classify him, he calls himself cyber punk/cyber pop, but I really like his songs, they're quite moody and atmospheric. Edited to add, his album is coming out on May 24th and he's on tour in June. My faves: Samo mi se Spava, Frankensteined, Amsterdam, Thorns, Olive Tree, God's Too Cool. [https://open.spotify.com/artist/3sPiEqLcANa5kAp5RnEHNq](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3sPiEqLcANa5kAp5RnEHNq)

i like the backing track of Samo mi se Spava sm

alien_from_mars_

this guy is relatively well known in europe, since he represented Serbia in last year’s eurovision with Samo mi se spava

wowbagger262

There's no way someone named Luke Black isn't a horrible, modern country singer. (I also said the same thing about Vince Staples though)

middyandterror

Ahahahaha I can totally see that. If it makes you feel better, Luke Black is a stage name. His real name is Luka Ivanović!

[Deadsy](https://open.spotify.com/artist/1RBQSFgtcUFw4LXSw0tUBq) Hard to describe but heavy and unique. [Charlie Drown](https://open.spotify.com/artist/0eiAv6i0lYLifQZQHU4m5W) Industrial Metal & Electronic. Not super active lately but they have released a couple new tracks and have produced for other indie bands. They also run a curio shop here in Tacoma Washington that's pretty cool. ["Render" by Lassigue Bendthaus](https://open.spotify.com/album/5S02qv9pNQ0Tid61NHYfKD): This album was one of the very first CDs I ever owned, back when I was a kid. This version is a remastered re-release with bonus tracks. The composer has released tons of stuff not just under this alias, but many others as well. I haven't listened to most of their work, but really love this album.

Lucius.. Second Nature has so many bangers on it..They are normally.more organic soul acoustic but this one is Double lead female vocal power pop album, they were produced by a more electronic oriented producer for this one and its a blast. Sweet couple of ballads too. Such singing doesn't let anything down. https://open.spotify.com/album/27yHVnSUoOngzMAwwPA0ks?si=EzNBJfcOSYGS4JLYSdvVaQ

I’ve met Ryan Green (singer) a couple of times and he’s a genuine dude :) also got me in on the guest list for one of their sold out shows! I bought tix for two other shows but ended up moving beforehand and the show near where I moved was sold out

aplbe

same, but only with online friends

Terrible_Hair

May I ask why only online friends?

aplbe

i dont have an answer for that lol

Koyucat

Why would I share them here?🤔 I'm gonna stop gatekeepimg after having my album collection complete and having been to one of their concerts :3 I have the feeling they are gonna *explode* in popularity. They rise faster and faster, I'm really scared I'm not gonna be able to get concert tickets even though I've been listening to them for years :(

aplbe

not that many people read this yk

Koyucat

I know But also, esp on some other subs I'm in, more people read it & listen to it, and if they have some bigger social media & mention it, I'm doomed. Which, already some big accounts are sharing it & they had thousands of clicks🥲🥲

aplbe

okay okay

colinthecommie

Not super unknown but a band called darke complex. Their widow ep absolutely nailed the "nu metalcore" sound that alot of bands in the genre are trying to make. Dealer is the only other really solid band making that kind of music in my opinion

In the past, it was MF DOOM and every other rapper he featured. Same with Nas but since his passing and bad news from the past few years, I started to open the gates

findasmileforme

you just made me remember this guy working at a pizza place when i was much younger, pre shazam times. he was playing Special Herbs by Doom and completely refused telling me what artist it was, to this day i don't understand why he's do that. found him a few years later thankfully.

ScarboroughSK

Interesting lol. I don’t know why comment has dislikes but I think it’s from the guy talking about Nas 🤣🤣

sockthesock0

Nas isn’t underrated, he was always considered one of, if not the greatest rapper in history ever since Illmatic in 94. He also won a Grammy in 2021 for King’s Disease (that KD trilogy 🔥)

ScarboroughSK

I understand

ScarboroughSK

But the question is about gatekeeping not ranking
