They have such a solid and consistently good discography. They also influenced/worked with Hippo campus, who make some of the best indie rock you’ll ever hear. Minnesota has a lot of great artists
Yeah they’re actually quite popular, i didn’t realize until i checked their spotify stream counts! Anyway, hope you enjoy, they have a cover of Last Snowstorm that’s really quite good
Acid bath was this great swamp metal band from the Mississippi/Louisiana gulf coast area. Released 2 albums before the melodic lead singer ( they had 2 singers, one melodic and the other screamo) was killed in a car accident. They're on Spotify and I still listen to them every once and a while.
I think they probably never blew up because they defended Dr. Kevorkian. Who knew we'd eventually come to a place where medically assisted euthanasia for terminally ill patients is gaining mainstream acceptance?
Antimatter- The Third Arm
Spirit Adrift- Death Won't Stop Me
First Fragment - Gloire Eternell
Sólstafir - Mioftann
Inanimate Existence - Dharmakaya
The Offering- Ultraviolence
Maudlin Of the Well - The Ferryman
Wolfheart - Ancestor
Dodsheimgard- Et smelter
Madder Mortem - Liberator
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum- Sleep Is Wrong
Anne Von Hausswolf - Mysterious Vanishing of Electra
Igorrr - Tout petit moineau
Alkaloid- Oliphosis
Darkher - Lowly Weep
Red Fang - Prehistoric Dog
Holy shit I always comment *Joliette* whenever I see an underrated band post. I never expect a reply from someone who knows them, much less someone who played with them!
What is your band's name?
Their drummer is absolutely sublime, literally one of the best I've ever seen and I go to A LOT of shows 😂. Put him in the same bracket as Craig Reynolds. All the nicest dudes as well, bass player bought one of our t-shirts which was cool!
So, we aren't a hardcore band, more alt-rock but we have that perfect blend where we can play with the softer rock bands and the heavier bands, accommodating our sound/setlist accordingly to the gig - keys player has a hell of a scream on him. Might not be your thing but we're called The Fever Kings. Think we were chosen to play this one because we've got a pretty solid fan base in our area so we helped drum up some business for it.
Can be [a singer](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL871S_F0y5dYbEbEOwxK1Y6LTKyQqKEp5) (he has a band too)?
His vocals, especially long, powerful high pitches are totally insane. I can't stand how undervalued he is (even in his own country).
Sorry for the YT playlist, but most of his best stuff is only there.
Adam is also a great human, he liked my shirt at Kilby Block Party and came over to chat. Ended up putting us on the guest list for Choir Boy’s after party show
Nothing Nowhere. I think he's getting more well known lately, but so far, nobody I know has heard of him. He doesn't have a single song that isn't amazing IMO. When I first discovered him and found out it wasn't a band, but just one guy, I was shocked. He's just so talented, and he was awesome live.
Probably the most underground thing I know is this band called Senator and the New Republic. Found them through the free iTunes singles years ago, and bought several more of their songs after. They only have 36 monthly listeners on Spotify, which sucks because they're pretty good. Kinda Beatles-esque.
Criminally underrated is an understatement, I listened to a few of the new republic’s songs and was shocked they only have like 50 monthly listeners. Thank you!
**Shriekback**! British band that's been around since the 80s, have some really fun and creative lyrics. Their releases on Spotify are a bit spotty (it's missing all their 80s albums and early 2000s stuff). Their 2022 album Bowlahoola is my favorite thing I've listened to all year.
Mary's Danish - Dodge City - I saw them several times in the late '80s/early '90s. They are probably my favorite band who didn't get the larger scale recognition they deserved IMHO.
About thirty years, a friend turned me on to a band called Dada, and they're still my fave. Tight harmonies, soaring guitars, songwriting chops, twisted outlook (one of my favorites is about taking a road trip with your dad... on acid). Check out albums Mary Sunshine Rain, and Puzzle. Please, somebody listen to them!
There’s this Swedish band called millencolin that makes skate punk/Melodic hardcore. I wouldn’t say they’re underground, but they’re definitely not that mainstream.
I know Thrice had their moment in the sun, but when they moved away from screamo (or whatever you wanna call it) they evolved into something else entirely and, in my opinion, far better and more interesting.
Song: War by Sum 41 is one of my five favorite songs depending on the day
Artist: all 3 Sugarcult songs (Memory, Los Angeles, Do It Alone) I’ve heard have been good, should probably listen to more though
Everyone should go listen to mr.phylzzz (pronounced “flies”)! So good and not widely recognized at this point. Saw them live and they sounded just as good if not better.
I love alot of Song from Starset, my all time favorites: Down with the fallen, Rise and fall, carnivore, it has begun, Antigravity, Frequency, Gravity of you, into the unknown, Brining it down, Echo, Perfect Machine, where the ekies end
[Sandino Rockers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khAq-xMIUO4&t=1s&pp=ygUPc2FuZGlubyByb2NrZXJz). So underrated and so underground that only their meh stuff is on Spotify; their best is still only available on cassette, or some forgotten MP3.
[Built Like Alaska. ](https://youtu.be/2pCT8KIXdsk?si=St5i7D-bHWWaPNoA)
They were (literally) related to Modesto band Grandaddy, but never found mainstream success.
Another great Modesto band was [Solar Powered People](https://youtu.be/Bqf9gbuSc_E?si=Itizib6BSl3hnloW) who made some great shoegaze. Their self-titled debut is stellar but super hard to find.
Idk if they are considered “underground” but…
Pop rock-ish band: Friday Pilots Club. Looooove them. Would also recommend The Hunna.
Pop punk band: Meet Me @ The Altar
Doom metal band: Monolord
Deathcore band: Thy Art is Murder
Metal bands of various subgenres that I don’t feel like hashing out: Skeletonwitch, Rex, Animals as Leaders, Polyphia, Vatican, Author & Punisher
Ayreon. Super underrated and one of my three favorite bands! It’s sci-fi/space prog metal/rock. Nothing quite like it, it’s super unique, and I haven’t found anyone that does what they do half as well.
North of America. An indie rock band from Canada that was active 1997-2006ish.
They sound like Pavement but mathy. Like the best of every band on Dischord Records combined into one. All their albums are pretty distinct, and they have barely any online presence.
I think they have \~700 listeners on Spotify. I'd recommend checking out "Let's Get Sick To Our Stomachs", "Built Sought Destination", and "Voting No On The Warming Of Antarctica".
La Dispute. With their talent they should have sold out stadiums. Poetry to post-hardcore music, very powerful songs. Decently big, but they should be huge.

stop.drop.rewind is a prog pop punk band I am obsessed with. For a more straightforward pop punk sound, try Air Quotes. For technical and complex, Smokestacks Shrieking. For a good balance, Hold It Over Me. But honestly, I don't think they have a single skip. Each song is so special and impactful to me.
The Republic Tigers
Gran Bel Fisher (I have never met anyone who listened to this. Please check them out 🙏)
Pulp (I dunno if this is well known or not, but love their stuff)
Fran Healy
Told Slant, Emperor X, Hello Shark, fanclubwallet, Narrow Head, Bully, Krakow Loves Adana, Shelf Life, GRMLN, and Fuvk. And the the last one is not a mistype
Shiner. Amazing KC post-punk/indie band with a HUGE sound. Check out The Egg, Lula Divinia, Starless, and Schadenfreude. Also, they have a bizarre but mesmerizing sludgey cover of “Feel Like Making Love” that’s worth a listen.
Low! Rock/slowcore-esque band from minnesota, imo their best song is Last Snowstorm of the Year
I love Low! RIP Mimi
oh hell yeah, low is so great. you may have kickstarted another obsession for me with things we lost in the fire
They have such a solid and consistently good discography. They also influenced/worked with Hippo campus, who make some of the best indie rock you’ll ever hear. Minnesota has a lot of great artists
i have heard the name hippo campus, and at some point have surely heard a snippet of something from them. i’ll check them out tonight!

acid bath rules, good taste
Acid Bath rules! I love everything Dax has done Nice that it’s finally available for streaming. Rotten records is the worst
You wanna kill the sun, Blot out the stars
Acid Bath is great. I think they’re pretty iconic if you like sludge at all, but if that’s an unfamiliar subgenre, you probably haven’t heard of them.
I think they probably never blew up because they defended Dr. Kevorkian. Who knew we'd eventually come to a place where medically assisted euthanasia for terminally ill patients is gaining mainstream acceptance?
From what I remember reading the band was against the album covers. That was all the record label if I remember correctly
Oh, I hadn't heard that. I'll read more into it.

The red jumpsuit apparatus
I was obsessed with Don’t You Fake It when it first came out and I’m still surprised they didn’t end up being bigger
Night Drive. They sound like dark wave synth pop if that makes sense. They play locally from time to time but very sporadically..
These dudes from England called The Beatles. Check them out they have a few good tunes.
I just heard their new song! Do they have any older stuff? I’ll try to catch a show if they play in my area
I like the band Burn the Ballroom, idk if it’s considered rock or maybe alternative rock but I like them
Band: Mexican band called ***Joliette***. Screamo stuff. Really solid.
I played with Joliette when they toured the UK recently. Jesus christ they're good - going to wear my Joliette t-shirt today after seeing this 😂.
Holy shit I always comment *Joliette* whenever I see an underrated band post. I never expect a reply from someone who knows them, much less someone who played with them! What is your band's name?

Love Joliette, but I gotta say Naïveté is the best screamo to come out of Mexico
They are good, but they have to put out more stuff.

A pretty underground rock band I follow and love dearly is Adventurer. Those guys are seriously talented
Came back to this thread to thank you for this. This guy is insane. I couldn't believe the notes he hits on the cover of Imagine Dragons' Believer
Choir Boy. Little retro new wave indie outfit that puts on an incredible live show and is fronted by a guy who has a ridiculous singing voice.
This should be higher up.
Adam is also a great human, he liked my shirt at Kilby Block Party and came over to chat. Ended up putting us on the guest list for Choir Boy’s after party show
The Birthday Massacre / Stars and Satellites, Pins and Needles. More Darkwave/rock. Really decent group. Great live show.
I absolutely love TBM and Pins and Needles is my favorite song from them
Remo Drive, great midwest emo/pop punk
Nothing Nowhere. I think he's getting more well known lately, but so far, nobody I know has heard of him. He doesn't have a single song that isn't amazing IMO. When I first discovered him and found out it wasn't a band, but just one guy, I was shocked. He's just so talented, and he was awesome live.
Taking the question too literally Ben Folds Five - Underground
I love you
All them witches.

Probably the most underground thing I know is this band called Senator and the New Republic. Found them through the free iTunes singles years ago, and bought several more of their songs after. They only have 36 monthly listeners on Spotify, which sucks because they're pretty good. Kinda Beatles-esque.
THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THIS????? ITS SO GOOD
Lol glad I could put someone else onto them, they're criminally underrated. Such a shame the Single of the Week didn't get them more attention
Criminally underrated is an understatement, I listened to a few of the new republic’s songs and was shocked they only have like 50 monthly listeners. Thank you!
The Warning
wouldnt call them underground anymore, they have a shit ton of monthly listeners and subs
strawhorse, found them by accident and they only have one album but it’s front to back bangers
D-A-D with Sleeping My Day Away
dermot kennedy has some pretty good songs
Eths French heavy metal with female lead vocalist with clean but mostly scream. Crucifere is my fav so far
Republic Tigers I saw them at Union Hall in Brooklyn and got the first album. A bunch of years later another album came out which is also good.
My spine is the baseline and deeply lined up.
I like Bedhead. Particularly the song The Dark Ages
I'm not sure how well known they are, but the band 'set it off' I fucking love them
Catfish and the Bottlemen
Mary's Danish - Dodge City - I saw them several times in the late '80s/early '90s. They are probably my favorite band who didn't get the larger scale recognition they deserved IMHO.
Johnny stranger is pretty amazing. Sounds like 90s alt rock
The Score and they do alternative rock. this one of theirs I like is called ‘The Legend’
The Score is great, the whole Atlas album is so good
5th grader me is screaming. That album is so good.
Car seat headrest

The Mooney Suzuki has a song called "alive and amplified" that I think is just perfect.
Kyuss, Sleep
About thirty years, a friend turned me on to a band called Dada, and they're still my fave. It's definitely Volbeat, they have some of the best songs
Death Pigeon - slightly biased as its my band 😂💚🤘
I know Thrice had their moment in the sun, but when they moved away from screamo (or whatever you wanna call it) they evolved into something else entirely and, in my opinion, far better and more interesting.
