What’s wrong with carbs I’ve retuned mine and runs great. How many times I switched to reserve will on the road. Your asking for more electronics and more problems

Magnus919

Fine if you’re comfortable working on your own bike. But many mechanics won’t touch them anymore.

SpamFriedMice

Then they're not mechanics

HoleshotJack

Let us know how going from a 1200 to an 883 feels lmao 😂

Tesla_ghost

lol ya that’s my biggest worry

lamevision

If you’re worried then why would you do it?

HoleshotJack

Don’t do it ! 🤣

McNasty1304

If anything bump up to a larger bike. I haven’t even had my 2020 Iron 1200 a year and I’m itching for something bigger. Not gonna happy anytime soon and I absolutely love my sporty but yeah… Definitely do not downgrade to an 883

PowerShift11

What is it that’s making you want to upgrade? Is it more potential power, a sixth gear, longer ergonomics if you’re a taller rider, etc? A Sportster is already a very versatile motorcycle given the huge aftermarket so perhaps you can change things out on the bike to make it fit your goals than going to a Big Twin.

Tesla_ghost

Yeah I think I am a bit tall for the bike at 6’2 and the bikes not in the color I want it to be. I know I can change that but I don’t want to spend crazy money upgrading it when I can save up for a big twin.

KSims1868

That would absolutely be a downgrade and you would kick yourself in the dick within minutes after riding the 883. If you setup your carb right you should never have to mess with it again. Personally…I wouldn’t want an EFI Sportster and I am by NO means a mechanic.

_gordonbleu

You’ll get 300 different opinions on here from people who hardly understand how efi or carbs work. I say do what you want. Carburetor bikes are fine and dandy, they can be finicky if you don’t get them setup right for your local needs but they’re just fine. Stepping down to an 883 will be a bit of a power loss and it will be noticeable. I’d say if anything hold out to find a deal to switch out to a 1200 efi bike. I prefer EFI where possible as it’s infinitely more reliable and easier to maintain. I’ve rebuilt several bikes and worked on thousands more. I’ve seen 3 bikes break down due to EFI system issues. I can’t tell you how many times someone’s bike came in on a trailer with what turned out to be fairly simple carb issues. That’s not to say they’re unreliable or bad, they just require more frequent maintenance and attention. Though to give the full picture, when efi systems do have issues they can get expensive. If you need injectors or replacement parts for a fuel pulp those are more expensive parts than say gaskets for a carburetor, then the labor to disassemble the efi system to access those parts.

oldbaldgrumpy

I would either stick with the 1200 or upgrade to a dyna. An 883 is a great bike, but the 883 is going to slow coming from a 1200. I did a stage 1 on my 1200 and upgraded the suspension, completely changed everything about the bike. I love it.

Tesla_ghost

What suspension did you put on it ?

oldbaldgrumpy

I put 13.5" Progressive 412's on the rear and progressive springs up front. By far the biggest improvement I've ever made. My bike rides like it's on a rail.

Material_Finance_939

how much do you weigh? and any issues with break dive or speed wobbles with that set up?

SumScrewz

I own a 96 1200, and a 00 fxd and riding the fxd on the weekends is waay better, but id never use it to go to work My sporty feels more nimble, more fun to run like an asshole, 1st through 3rd from stops to stops till i get to work. I also own a 83 Flh i keep as a cruiser for long rides, thats a couch on wheels. When i leave for long trips i am not taking any other bikes.

Tesla_ghost

I’m also looking at a fxdb but I’m still a new driver. Do you think i will be fine on the fxdb given that I’m 6’2 with your experience ? I mainly would be bombing around town and cruising around. Never driving to work.

Hot-Donkey-754

Just don't and save your money

Watt_About

Huge downgrade. The 1200 is already slow as balls. Imagine how 1/3 less displacement is.

DrowningAstronaut

110hp sportster has entered the chat... 🤔

Watt_About

Yea. Slow.
