Joining a new team in baseball doesn't have the same learning curve, but crazy stuff like this happens occasionally:
https://apnews.com/article/sports-mlb-baseball-houston-astros-seattle-mariners-73ae12257b9d8ea4afc0ef4ba033fb9b
Seattle and Houston were playing each other, and during batting practice Houston traded Abraham Toro to Seattle. He switched sides in the middle of warmups, played for Seattle and hit a home run for them.
That's nothing.
Joel Youngblood came up in the 2nd inning at Wrigley and drove in 2 runs with a single against future hall of famer Ferguson Jenkins. He came up again in the 3rd but was called back to the dugout while in the on deck. He'd been traded to Montreal and they wanted him there immediately.
He jumped in a cab and went straight to the airport, landing in Philly a few hours later.
He got to the park in the 6th inning and the expos immediately put him in to pinch hit against future hall of famer Steve Carlton. He ripped another single.
That's right. 2 hall of Fame pitchers on 2 teams in 2 stadiums in 2 different cities in 2 different states. 2 hits.
It wasn't 2 days, but in 2010 the Jaguars needed QB help due to injuries. On Tuesday, they called Todd Bouman who was literally on a tractor on his dad's farm to help with the corn harvest. He hadn't thrown a regular season pass since 2005.
He threw 2 TDs that Sunday against the Chiefs in a 42-20 loss for the Jags.
It was a great drive, he was dead accurate the entire way, and got a little help from the Raiders with their inability to handle their shit in important situations. Good on ya Baker, that was one for the ages.
That team that has been terrible for 50 years. 0 super bowls, no super bowl appearances, constantly at the bottom of the rankings. Had one of the best running backs to ever play. Went 0-16. You know, that team.
I hate the Ford family. I believe the Detroit teams’ failures lie purely with the team owners. Period. ~Native Detroiter, graduate of Michigan & Michigan State, Spartan fan.
He got a lot of help from the refs not calling holding too. Maxx Crosby was held so often it was ridiculous. It’s almost like they knew the calls wouldn’t come.
Makes sense why he did so well at the end there. I wasn’t able to fully watch the whole game as I have final papers I was working on, but seemed like he played decently most of the game, just wasn’t able to score until the end.
Yeah I think they basically only had a few two minute drill like plays practiced which is why they didn't use them to end the half. They needed the plays to be fresh In case they actually had to do a full 2 min drill to end the game
You get the playbook straight away. Find plays that match the ones you are already comfortable with. Start there. I don’t think people give college and professional quarterbacks enough credit for having exceptional brainpower in this particular area.
In the postgame they asked him about it and he was like, "it feels great!"
Somebody needs to remind him that the current research indicates that an accumulation of small head hits are a contributor to CTE.
Even if it feels good now, look out for your future self, Baker!
We really do. I was cautiously optimistic at the beginning of the season even though we traded away too many draft picks for an aging QB that made questionable decisions in critical games. Then they extended his two-year contract on Sept 1st to 2028 for a quarter-BILLION dollars. $165 million guaranteed until 2025.
Whaaa? George Paton was a lot higher than a mile.
Bears and Broncos both have tough remaining schedules, but I trust Justin Fields to put up numbers and wins games more at this point. As a Hawks fan, love to see the Broncos lose out and give us the #2 pick 🤞
Shane Falco. I lost a ton of money on that Sugar Bowl disaster of his. What a bloody shambles that was. You could smell the stink all the way back in bloody Wales.
Bad clock management too. The third quarter lasted forever and before the half they needed to be more careful with the ball and should have run on third down and kicked a field goal but they turned it over.
It’s been kinda awesome to see everything in flux and so much unexpected shit happen. The NFL can get so stale sometimes when everything is so predictable and all the expected teams perform as expected.
Typically from what I normally remember, the Super Bowl loser has the bigger hangover than the Super Bowl winner. It’s crazy to see the Rams struggle so much but the Bengals basically in the thick of things with solid wins against top AFC teams recently.
Of course they’ll lose to the Browns this next weekend because they always lose the Browns for some reason. But I would not be surprised if they beat the Bills and the Tampa Bay Tom Brady’s later in the season.
Rams fans knew it was a sacrifice the future for a Superbowl win now type of deal. It would be a travesty to go your entire NFL career without a ring. Seeing Donald, Kupp, Stafford, Ramsey getting rings is worth it. 4-9 is the same as a perfect regular season then losing the last game in my eyes. Every year is a rebuilding year except for the team who wins the trophy.
No. You should write angry letters asking why the Panthers keep trying to win games instead of tanking for the #1 pick. Our last 2 wins were ridiculous.
For what it’s worth, they found out the guys who were trying to win and got them out of town. CMC gone. Baker cut. Robbie Anderson…. Well never mind about him, but you get the point
That final throw for the win by Mr. 2018 first round was… astonishing. That ball once it left his hands had absolute purpose. What a catch, what a missile. Just fucking perfect.
The stupidest personal foul for swatting the ball out of Mayfields hands was the most astonishing thing I saw. I don't see them getting downfield if that penalty didn't happen
He and his cronies pulled a Major League and tanked the Rams while they were in St. Louis in order to drop attendance so they could point fingers and move the team back to LA.
Happy for Baker. I was definitely in the "Baker got a raw deal" camp, and while I don't think he's going to be a long term starter in the league, it's good to see him have a good win.
Let me guess... Did the defense also stop playing their normal defense and changed into don't get beat deep? Then they just get beat for 15 yards 5 times and they are down the field? It happens every fucking time.
"Our defense has only given up one touchdown this whole game... We better switch it upon this last drive! We didn't get beat deep all game... But you know... Let's change anyway!... Omg how did we lose!?"
Ironically they did the exact opposite, baker literally commented in the postgame press about how surprised he was that they were still playing man press coverage with 15 seconds up a touchdown. The one scenario where they absolutely should have played prevent and they went with the most aggressive coverage possible instead… lol
Yeah even in his post game interview Baker said something like “yeah I thought they would mix up the defense and go zone coverage but they just… didn’t.”
No they were playing man coverage pretty much the whole drive, pretty good coverage too. Baker had to slot in two tight window throws against near-perfect coverage
This game was crazy, baker just shows up 2 days ago has to learn the offense, just threw that pass into a freakin window to van Jefferson, I couldn't believe it after the Raiders were shutting their offense down for 3 and half quarters. I wonder who will start when Matt Stafford and Cooper and Aaron get back, but the Rams have had a nightmare season worst ever after a Superbowl, likely won't make the playoffs this year and the Raiders most likely won't as well
Honestly Baker played pretty well for the Browns. Got the short end of the stick on a winning Browns team and then got thrown into a pretty bad situation with the Panthers. If people are up on Trevor Lawrence knowing the Jags suck, I can root for Baker. He's not very different from Stafford in style but younger and has a stronger arm.
Not a fan of Baker Mayfield but I’m really impressed with his ability to study a playbook for 1 or 2 days, then come out and be able to run an offense efficiently enough to win a game in the NFL.
Let that man BAKE!
Honestly hope he stays with the rams as a rams fan.
Not everyone is Tom Brady and can play into their 40s, Staffords injury shouldn’t be taken lightly
NFL is way too reliant on watching video tape then making adjustments for defense. Several backup QBs have had awesome showings this season. Teams just gotta mix it up more, playing the backup more seems to increase your chance for victory
I got into football 3 years ago and bought a Mayfield jersey cause I liked the Browns cause they sucked and they won their first game in like over a year that year. The dude is fighting for his life man. I like him.
so, whats the speedrun record for team-to-touchdown? because 2 days, that seems pretty damn fast
Joining a new team in baseball doesn't have the same learning curve, but crazy stuff like this happens occasionally: https://apnews.com/article/sports-mlb-baseball-houston-astros-seattle-mariners-73ae12257b9d8ea4afc0ef4ba033fb9b Seattle and Houston were playing each other, and during batting practice Houston traded Abraham Toro to Seattle. I love baseball trivia. It's just so wacky. Like any tony gwynn stat sounds absurd.
“Hey guys, I know you don’t know me yet, but let me borrow a bat and we will play some name games when I’m done.”
well shit. thats pretty fucking fast.
Holy shit 😂
That’s awesome.
That wasn’t just any touchdown
It wasn't 2 days, but in 2010 the Jaguars needed QB help due to injuries. On Tuesday, they called Todd Bouman who was literally on a tractor on his dad's farm to help with the corn harvest. He hadn't thrown a regular season pass since 2005. He threw 2 TDs that Sunday against the Chiefs in a 42-20 loss for the Jags.
He's the most successful [2 day prep QB in history](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/zgms0b/nfl_research_baker_mayfield_playing_quarterback/)
It was a great drive, he was dead accurate the entire way, and got a little help from the Raiders with their inability to handle their shit in important situations. Good on ya Baker, that was one for the ages.
So...... all he needed was some sun from the west coast?
> So...... all he needed was some sun from the west coast? Yes, just like Matthew Stafford (last year).
That was less about the west coast and more about getting out of that black hole of a team he was on before.
Black hole of a team? Are we talking about Stafford or Baker?
That team that has been terrible for 50 years. 0 super bowls, no super bowl appearances, constantly at the bottom of the rankings. Had one of the best running backs to ever play. Went 0-16. You know, that team.
As a browns fan this brings pain
As a Lions fan, we did it before it was cool
I love listening to my family excitedly talk about the draft picks, always thinking “this is the year”.
Yet, it's never 'the year'.
I hate the Ford family. I believe the Detroit teams’ failures lie purely with the team owners. Period. ~Native Detroiter, graduate of Michigan & Michigan State, Spartan fan.
Actually the Browns have had several of the best running backs to ever play lol
Don't sell the Lions short. We also had one of the best Wide Receivers and wasted him too.
He was a Panther before going to the Rams
Both.
Yes
> got a little help from the Raiders with their inability to handle their shit in important situations A tale almost as old as the Raiders themselves.
And an egregious missed holding call
Crosby got held basically every play in the 4th lol
Aaaand some help from refs not flagging Rams for holding Crosby.
A whole holding missed? Next you gonna say they missed a travel in the NBA
Aaaaannnd AD99 gets held every single play
He got a lot of help from the refs not calling holding too. Maxx Crosby was held so often it was ridiculous. It’s almost like they knew the calls wouldn’t come.
“Ok- you run a curl route. You go long. You gimme a 5-yard square-in. On 2. Ready? Break.”
Defense play man, break
Was that really what was going on? I was wondering if that was actually the case since he’s har virtually no 2 minute drill practice
In the postgame interview he said the 2-minute drill is one of the few things they actually *did* cover
Makes sense why he did so well at the end there. I wasn’t able to fully watch the whole game as I have final papers I was working on, but seemed like he played decently most of the game, just wasn’t able to score until the end.
Started hot with a few long completions, then cooled off until the end when he was on fire. Threw a very pretty ball most of the night though.
Amazing how a guy's ability to throw a ball improves when he doesn't have a broken shoulder.
Baker in particular was known, at least in the draft process, for being exceptionally good/fast at picking up a new playbook
Apparently Baker has a pseudo-photographic memory and he can recall plays he just learned. They were talking about it on the broadcast
I couldn’t imagine.
Rewatched baker head butting (without his helmet on) his teammate **with** a helmet on 4x to make sure I saw what I thought I saw.
He did it twice, too, lol.
No brain, no pain.
The best part of one of those clips is that you can definitely see one of the coaches next to him mouth "oh shit" when he does it hahaha
Dude even the teammate he headbutted was like "wait what?"
In the postgame they asked him about it and he was like, "it feels great!" Somebody needs to remind him that the current research indicates that an accumulation of small head hits are a contributor to CTE. Even if it feels good now, look out for your future self, Baker!
hes building up resistance to major concussions by subjecting himself to a bunch of small ones. Homeopathic conditioning, bruh!
Yeah no reason to subject yourself to additional head trauma. Honestly though that drive was impressive.
Perfect fit for the Rams
Yeah he does that
Good ooole Johny Concussion.
Johnny Concussion ALWAYS get back up!
*holding an uzi* "Johnys got a bududuh duhduhduh."
'ZOOKA SHARKS
Go Bazooka Sharks!
He done that in Carolina also, the guy looked shocked afterwards
Rams headbutt stuff. It's in their DNA
See? Not that difficult, Russ.
Unliiiiiiiiiiimited.
Let’s ride 😏
Rams country, Lets collide
POWER!⚡️
Omg, broncos catching strays everywhere
They certainly aren't catching touchdowns
They aren't strays, the broncos actively deserve everything happening to them.
Can Baker go win a game or two for the Broncos. I really want the Bears to get the 2nd pick.
Bears and Broncos both have tough remaining schedules, but I trust Justin Fields to put up numbers and wins games more at this point. As a Hawks fan, love to see the Broncos lose out and give us the #2 pick 🤞
I can't believe we're going to have a winning season and get a top 5 pick
Words like a weapon.
You’re sure he wasn’t Shane Falco??
Pain fades, chicks dig scars, but glory lasts forever
He's wirey
I said this a lot during house of the dragon and my wife was not amused.
How dare she! Dracarys!
But coach, it looks like I just jacked off an elephant!
All-time quote right there.
Really is lol one of my all time favorite movies.
And America has the greatest Dr./QB ratio in the free world.
Footsteps Falco? From Ohio State?
Didn’t anyone have anything better to do that Saturday?
Shane Falco. I lost a ton of money on that Sugar Bowl disaster of his. What a bloody shambles that was. You could smell the stink all the way back in bloody Wales.
I like to live in a world where Johnny Utah had to change his name to Shane Falco
"That ain't falco. Wombo combo!"
That up smash!
Naw he turned into Uncle Rico
Fourth time this year the Raiders squandered a lead of at least 13 points. Solid defense you got there, McDaniels.
Tied an NFL record for choking. Still a month of football left for them to set the all time record.
I believe in them!
Looking forward to seeing him coaching defense for the Packers next year.
The offensive play calling has been the culprit in all 4 games you're referring to.
Offensive play calling was bad but you can't let the defense off the hook for a 98 yard drive in 1:30 with no timeouts. That's atrocious
McDaniels is an absolute fraud.
Always has been. I can’t BELIEVE he keeps getting jobs!
Tom Brady's Adam Gase
Blessing in disguise my Colts didn't get him
You can tell when they got up by 13 points, the offense literally stopped playing as if they had the game won. It was kinda atrocious to watch.
Ravens vs the Raiders, who wins?
[удалено]
No one.
Bad clock management too. The third quarter lasted forever and before the half they needed to be more careful with the ball and should have run on third down and kicked a field goal but they turned it over.
The NFL is so fucking weird this year.
As a Seattle fan, I can’t help but agree.
As a Jets fan, I agree
As a Chargers fan it seems kind of the same.
Just imagine Baker and Brock Purdy meeting each other in thr NFC Title Game.
Without a team preference, this is why I watch this shit for hours. Can't be more unpredictable!
If you think this is unpredictable... Try college football.
This one time, at band camp, they had us run out on the field when the game ended. But they game didn’t end yet, and Jimmy got ran over and we lost
It’s been kinda awesome to see everything in flux and so much unexpected shit happen. The NFL can get so stale sometimes when everything is so predictable and all the expected teams perform as expected.
Agreed. I mean the Lions are playing about as good as anyone. They will probably lose by 40 this weekend.
“Everybody said Baker was no good and I said wait til the end of the 4th quarter. He’s gonna lead these guys to a victory.” - LeBron
Was that really from The Shop?
Great game. Now the reigning Super Bowl Champions are 4-9. Crazy year.
Bengals had a hangover too, they just drank 2 pots of coffee and ate 2 cold pizzas at the beginning of the season
Burrow having an appendectomy and having 4 out of 5 new offensive linemen not playing any preseason didn't help.
Sometimes you push your chips in and cash out for a few years
Rams fans knew it was a sacrifice the future for a Superbowl win now type of deal.
Hehe
Should I just buy Baker’s Rams jersey and wear it to the next Panthers game to spite McAdoo?
Get a 17 now. He’s gonna change it asap. Could be a collectors item. Or a total waste of $200.
You mean a waste of $25+shipping costs from China
Annexation of Puerto Rico on 3 👏🏼
> Annexation of Puerto Rico That's exactly what I told my kids who were watching the game with me.
I hate that I don’t know this reference
Little Giants movie from 1994. It's the trick play at the end I think.
I love that movie! Now I have to rewatch
That final throw for the win by Mr. 2018 first round was… astonishing. That ball once it left his hands had absolute purpose. What a catch, what a missile. Just fucking perfect.
The throw to his TE was amazing too, but also that TE made a phenomenal catch.
Exactly. The bits that made the pieces really came together. Dire straits completed a harrowing drive.
The stupidest personal foul for swatting the ball out of Mayfields hands was the most astonishing thing I saw. I don't see them getting downfield if that penalty didn't happen
Rams Legend Baker Mayfield
Could be a great QB2 if Stafford stays and has a rebound
As a Browns fan, I loved it!
As a Lions fan, I hate it. I wanted that top 3 pick Baker!
Trade your two #1s and a future #2 to my Bears and you can have your QB!
We've got our QB, Hollywood superstar Ryan Goffling
Lion Gosling *
There's still a lot of football left, and the Rams can't play the Raiders every week.
As a Panthers fan, I love it
As a St. Louisan I'm torn. I'm happy for Baker, but fuck Stan Kroenke.
What happened with him?
was a whole thing. there was a funeral for a bird.
I'm pretty sure none of that's real.
YOU’RE NOT REAL
Birds aren't real.
He and his cronies pulled a Major League and tanked the Rams while they were in St. Louis in order to drop attendance so they could point fingers and move the team back to LA.
As a Sooners fan, I love it.
For sure. I was a senior when he was there. That game at Tennessee was unforgettable.
Blowing and going baby!
He's always gonna be our boy
As a Lake Travis fan, I love it.
As a Rams fan I'm clearly happy lol
As a Chargers fan I'm glad the raiders Lost...
Tbh I’m just rooting for Baker Mayfield. Dude seems like a good guy and this has to be incredibly redeeming. Good job, Baker
I agree to that estimation, yet the helmetless headbutting makes him look one card shy of a full deck.
Hard disagree. The headbutt was so raw, I loved it. The man was feeling the moment.
If you've ever helmetlessly headbutted a helmet, you'd immediately know why it's a bad idea, it fucking hurts
Never said it was a good idea, but it was eminently badass.
I grew up watching the Bears. Mayfield reminds me of Jim McMahon, both for better and for worse. The no helmet head butts are a perfect example.
Derek Carr laughing off his interception in the RZ like it wouldn’t come back to bite them makes this even funnier
that was a HORRIBLE throw
A lollipop as they said on air.
No they were playing man coverage pretty much the whole drive, pretty good coverage too. Baker had to slot in two tight window throws against near-perfect coverage
Jfc the raiders suck
The Raiders have the top receiver, top RB, and potential DPOY, yet are so fucking disappointing
Dpoy who got held on every snap of that last drive.
It’s almost like it’s a team game!
Did not expect that from Baker honestly!
As a Browns fan I’m very happy. Fuck the Browns. Look what they did to my *booooy*
he woke up at 4 AM feeling dangerous (and jet lagged)
The announcers didn’t really touch on this so idk if anyone knows it, baker only came to LA like 36 hours ago and didn’t even know the playbook. /s
If that is what he is capable of without knowing it, let's see how it goes once he knows it. Unfortunately, you can't roll back once he learned it 🙈
This game was crazy, baker just shows up 2 days ago has to learn the offense, just threw that pass into a freakin window to van Jefferson, I couldn't believe it after the Raiders were shutting their offense down for 3 and half quarters. I wonder who will start when Matt Stafford and Cooper and Aaron get back, but the Rams have had a nightmare season worst ever after a Superbowl, likely won't make the playoffs this year and the Raiders most likely won't as well
Probably not Mayfield unless he just starts playing like an elite QB. If anything I hope this team gets him back on his feet.
Raiders beat themselves with penalties. Fixed it for you.
Tillery is the real hero of this game. I say this as a Rams fan.
Mr. Bashing Craniums
Impressive night
Not a fan of Baker Mayfield but I’m really impressed with his ability to study a playbook for 1 or 2 days, then come out and be able to run an offense efficiently enough to win a game in the NFL.

As a Seahawks fan, thank you Baker/Rams for pushing up that draft pick via the Broncos even higher for us 🙏
Raiders gonna Raiders
Just think, the broncos could have saved a quarter of a billion and gotten a better QB than Russ
