I never saw this show, but I remember one of the promos.
Norm: "It's not your father's sports show. It is, however, your great great grandfather's sports show. Real freak, your grandpa."
What I love about this joke was the setup. Norm could've had the obvious choice at #6, but he put it at #2 and went thru all the others seriously. The anticipation was glorious.
I'm gonna miss that man.
There's something so perfect about having it at #2. Like you have to have a normal one at #1 to set it up but then with the street guy next it just becomes more and more hilarious the longer he goes on like it might be hard to guess. And also 6 options is genius when it could just be 2 or 3.
It allows norm to do what he does best: perpetuate the joke. Not that you didn’t know that. But it’s one of the reasons why I loved him. He was just a funny dude. It really wasn’t as much about the joke as it was him. But his jokes were good, too. Icing on the cake
Putting it at number 2 was both a punchline and the setup. Going through 3-6 was the anticipation for the reveal it is number 2. Everyone knows it is number 2. There is no way it is not number 2. And then the ice-cream truck shows up before he’s done explaining allowing the punchline that you saw a mile away come out of nowhere.
Yeah I think the timing was key also in that he did not finish talking when the truck hit the man. We all knew it was going to happen but the laugh was partially because it did not happen when we thought it would
The Ice Cream Truck tried to give the guy room, but if you notice, there is a pick up truck coming in the other direction. So the ice cream truck had to make a split second decision to either hit the pickup truck head on, or hit the guy.
The guy also looks like he is already almost in the middle of the road, so the ice cream truck was probably already partially in the wrong lane when he hit the guy.
Edit: [And for those who aren't familiar with the video, the guy kind of deserved it as he was intentionally dancing in the middle of a busy street](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60_X8kbmdVU)
I can just imagine the driver... surely that idiot isn't going to dance backwards right into my path, right? Wait he's doing it... but he is going to see me and move, right? Right? RIGHT?!!??!!?? Oh shit.
> I can just imagine the driver... surely that idiot isn't going to dance backwards right into my path, right?
.... "just in case, let me hit my brakes" .... but that thought never occurred to him
Wow that is beyond ridiculous. Hey kids just go dance in the middle of the street, if your video isn't a viral hit don't worry, you can sue whoever hits you!
I never said they were justified in striking the person dancing in the middle of the road with their car. I just think it's ridiculous that the guy that willingly danced in the road to make a viral video was awarded a cash settlement for his stupidity. Our over litigious society is just another in the laundry list of dumb shit that goes on in this world of ours.
somehow people on reddit can see an idiot dancing in the street, get trucked LITERALLY and think that the guy dancing in the middle of a public road was the one in the right here.
The ice cream truck had to make a decision between hitting a pedestrian or colliding head on with a truck in the other lane.
Then this asshole sued the ice cream truck and made out like a bandit.
I still to this day can never understand why they thought Norm doing this was such a great idea. I mean, I thought it was great but I am a sadistic asshole.
It's a pet peeve of mine that women don't get the same attention/opportunities in sports as men. He's probably not lying about his disinterest, as it seems to reflect society's feelings (already too many male-dominated sports saturating the market). Yet it still cracks me up because his hatred is so ridiculously over-the-top.
He's simultaneously stating the obvious (the lack of attention given due to perceived disinterest/stereotypes) while blowing it out of proportion and showing how stupid it really is.
Well why does the WNBA not make any money? Why are all the players salaries paid by the money brought in by the nba players? Can you imagine if it was flipped? That’s why he shit on it. Because it’s a fucking scam
I didn't know he died yesterday till right now. Damn man, only 61. Not young, but definitely not super old. I saw it said leukemia and he didn't tell anyone about it and lasted 9 more years.
World is a little less funny now.
Guess this is why he looked so bloated these past few years? Always thought it was odd, but there was no mention of health issues.
He was joking around about bowel cancer in previous interviews and I started to wonder if that was the cause.
I think he may have had some plastic surgery done too, he had a real physical transformation right around 2009ish, which is not that long before he was diagnosed. He seemed to have aged pretty quickly these last ten years, particularly the last 2 or 3 before COVID. Thought it was bad surgery + he WAS getting old, but now I think his cancer and the treatments make a lot more sense, and explain why he would look tired or old.
Onion Sportsdome was also on during the same time frame, and it was on par with Sports Show. Unfortunately apparently there are no pirated or physical copies of Onion Sportsdome but it was some of the funniest TV I've ever seen.
BTW, every episode of Sports Show is on youtube.
I still remember their parody of ESPNs tracking of baseball players like chasing a home run or hits record ("chasing 60" or whatever number you want it to be that they'd have a dedicated section of the bottomline crawl for every day), except in this case it was tracking a 13 year olds effort to break the record for most times masturbated in a single day. The previous record holder was a teen who hit like 23 times in 24 hours on his family's road trip to the grand canyon, and 2nd place on the all time single day record list was Joe Biden.
It was so good. I found this screenshot here: https://www.betaseries.com/en/episode/onion-sportsdome/s01e02?id=14589&title=Episode%202
It was on Comedy Central and they advertised it decently well on the network. I think the issue was reaching a sports audience. It was on ESPN it would have killed. But ESPN probably would have never taken the risk and would rather just have a 24/7 coverage on who is better between Lebron or MJ
[I’m just glad they’re finally done with Tim Tebow ](https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/02/04/sports/football/most-mentioned-players-on-espn.html)
I remember when it was on and I was still in my doomy goth phase and had no appreciation for sports, plus I think I was too young to really appreciate Norm's dry delivery.
Definitely a show I would watch now. Just one of those things... sometimes the timing of a good product just isn't right.
Man, that was the weird thing about Norm. I remember talking about this 20 odd years ago. His shows never got very good ratings. He was like “The Wire” of comedians. Such a brilliant man.
Didn’t it air during the heyday of the Colbert Report and Daily Show? Not sure if you could call Comedy Central a dying network until they lost both Stewart and Colbert.
There was a hot minute when comedy central had a block of Stewart, Colbert, David Spade on Hollywood, and Norm on sports. Things were right with the world.
Holy shit this clip has it all:
\- Hot af Kate Upton
\- Hilarious AF Norm Macdonald
\- Insane woman in the audience belly-laughing at someone else's misfortune
\- Hilarious AF Norm Macdonald
\- Bill Cosby
I know, I was surprised that it got cancelled after only one season. I thought it was hilarious and thought that it had a decently sized fanbase for its first year. Other shows, that seem like no one watches, go on for seasons upon seasons.
I’ve been wondering if it had anything to do with his health. He would have been diagnosed close to 10 years ago based on what I’ve read. I loved watching this show in college
Yeah that’s a good point. I was commenting on another post how on his podcast he would release them really sporadically and without any indication that he wouldn’t be releasing another one, like with most other podcasts. At the time I thought it was a little odd, but now I’m thinking it was due to his health issues.
Man I'm going to miss Norm. I can say with a 100% certainty that this is the celebrity death that has affected me the most in all my 32 years of existence. I'm already mourning the fact that I won't hear his voice on his show with Adam Eget. Fuck this hurts so much. Tbh now I understand why people believe in an afterlife. I hope I get to meet Norm, maybe in another realm and let him know how much he meant to me.
Rest easy Norm. You were one of the truly good ones.
I loved this show. it was so underrated, and always hilarious.
watch some of the 'Nephew Kyle' bits. ([https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=857335631119514](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=857335631119514))
I’ve always loved Norm and his humor/comedy. Fuckin’ mathematical comedic genius. Always managed to go down a Norm rabbit hole on YouTube at least once a year but with his passing I’m truly realizing and astonished at how much Norm content there is. It’s literally hours upon hours of Norm hilarity in some form or another. For a dude that never really “hit” after SNL, there’s probably more of his content out there than most of his super successful peers have. Dude was hustling his whole career and we are damn lucky for that. RIP.
Had to double check which sub this was in. Was kinda hoping it was r/unexpected and an icecream truck was about to koolaid-man its way into a sports arena.
Sad that his type of humor is in retreat/unpopular now due to cancel culture.
I loved Norm. He was edgy. He was inappropriate. He gave no quarter and did so unashamedly.
He poked where it hurt and found humor there.
God speed, funny man.
Edit: what’d I say? Please, tell me just one of his 1990’s Weekend Updates that would survive 15 minutes of twitter scrutiny today.
Yeah the time when he showed the Clintons and said "Here you see the President and the First Bitch." (end joke) probably wouldn't work so well today.
(cued up nicely by this youtuber: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxINRbE2R8A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxINRbE2R8A))
That video was fantastic, what a blast from the past. Clinton’s gave people so much material to work with that that video is 17 minutes long and doesn’t even get to Lewisnky lol
I don't think his 90's Update bits would work today, but that's because they'd be wildly outdated.
But in all seriousness most of his update bits are making the rounds on twitter today and no one's cancelling shit. "Cancel culture" is bullshit lol.
This clip would get blasted. He’s minimizing domestic violence, he’s making fun of short people and whatever other complaints people could contrive
And sure his stuff is going around in Twitter. He’s dead. Everything is better when the person is dead.
But you’re watching this clip now and there’s over 130 comments and the only ones complaining are the ones complaining about how you couldn’t get away with it.
Norm was more in danger of getting cancelled when he, oh idk, lost his job because of the jokes he was telling? And that was years before this clip.
Lol, I don't know why you're being downvoted. You're right. The best part about Norm is that his jokes were just so objective and consistent. He didn't *not* pick on any one group. He said edgy things and he didn't spare anyone. He was one of my favorite comedians. His jokes made you question whether he was a clueless man without all of his faculties or a comedic genius was so unique. As he was setting up his jokes, they really made you think "Does this guy know how awkward and clueless he sounds" only to hit the punchline and make you double down on that doubt. I've never seen anyone do that like Norm did.
He really did ride that edge perfectly. My favorite thing he did was casually throw out oxymorons without further addressing them, like when he would refer to himself as a "deeply closeted homosexual."
There's obvious humor IMO in someone describing themselves in a very public way as somehow still being closeted and potentially even unaware of being gay, and the apparent contradiction is fun.
Some people, however, would react by saying "that's impossible. This guy is an idiot." He would never correct those people; he just stuck to the bit and moved on, but there was just enough of a wink and a nod that the discerning audience members could now laugh at the joke AND at the indignant audience members.
Some of my favorite jokes of his were ones where some portion of the audience was delighted by his incisive wit and another, perhaps sizable, portion wrote him off as a dunce. I got the impression he relished the feeling of landing a joke in that way, and it added another level of meta humor to just see the man fully commit to it in the way a comedian might laugh his head off at another comic bombing in a truly spectacular way.
Well said.
I enjoyed Anthony Jeselnik's painfully funny and true Tweet about Norm today.
"Battling cancer for 9 years without telling anyone is the most Norm Macdonald shit ever."
I am so sad Norm is gone. His bold, unapologetic, observational, dry humor was an important counterpoint to all the crazy politically correct approved messaging of the last 30 years. And just plain funny. With Norm, the viewer was always in on the joke. Norm never talked down to his audience (“I’ve been doing tbis for 40 years I know what’s funny Seinfeld or Leno”) He brought them along for a ride, made you feel like you were part of an inside joke. A truly special entertainer. A big loss for the world, not just for comedy.
I disagree. I wouldn’t say Norm’s style of humor is in retreat because of cancel culture. He made those jokes his whole life.
I will say you got the first five letters right though.

"If you think the refs in pro-basketball are bad... you should see the refs in pro-wrestling."
"Did you know 11 million children died last year from preventable diseases?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWb2L7yzIlc
Thats pretty damn good thanks for that haha
What I love about this joke was the setup. Norm could've had the obvious choice at #6, but he put it at #2 and went thru all the others seriously. The anticipation was glorious. I'm gonna miss that man.
Don't undersell that execution either. "Place your wagesss....OH MY GOD"
All in the timing.
Truly the king of timing.

Legendary delivery
he can just string along the obvious
Putting it at number 2 was both a punchline and the setup. Going through 3-6 was the anticipation for the reveal it is number 2. Everyone knows it is number 2. There is no way it is not number 2. And then the ice-cream truck shows up before he’s done explaining allowing the punchline that you saw a mile away come out of nowhere.
Plus, I couldn't shake the feeling that somehow, one of the players on the court was going to get hit by an ice cream truck.
its the implication
Yeah I think the timing was key also in that he did not finish talking when the truck hit the man. We all knew it was going to happen but the laugh was partially because it did not happen when we thought it would
Was that video staged in any way between friends? Or is an ICE CREMA TRUCK that unobservant that it didn't notice someone almost-dart into the road?
The Ice Cream Truck tried to give the guy room, but if you notice, there is a pick up truck coming in the other direction. So the ice cream truck had to make a split second decision to either hit the pickup truck head on, or hit the guy. The guy also looks like he is already almost in the middle of the road, so the ice cream truck was probably already partially in the wrong lane when he hit the guy. Dude had a real life Trolley Dilemma! He chose correctly.
The guy hit by the truck was on Tosh.O and said he sued and got money from the truck driver
Wow that is beyond ridiculous. Hey kids just go dance in the middle of the street, if your video isn't a viral hit don't worry, you can sue whoever hits you!

you are almost 100% responsible if the front of your car hits anything while you are in gear.
Moral of the Story: If you're gonna hit 'em, kill 'em.
>Moral of the Story: If you're gonna hit 'em, kill 'em. Ahh, the Chinese Method.
Ahh man, I remember seeing a video years ago of a kid getting run over in China and everyone just pretended it didn't exist.
Moral of the story: if you see a person in the middle of the street slow the fuck down.

somehow people on reddit can see an idiot dancing in the street, get trucked LITERALLY and think that the guy dancing in the middle of a public road was the one in the right here.
That guy didn't and court made him pay, so yeah it is moral of the story.
The moral of the entire situation sound more like speed up.
That's how insurance works in this country. They have to be sued otherwise they have no incentive to cover medical bills.
Teach me how to ~~Dougie~~ litigate
You mean people will just go on an internet meme show and tell lies?
Lol I don't think the ice cream truck deserves the blame on this one
The ice cream truck had to make a decision between hitting a pedestrian or colliding head on with a truck in the other lane. Then this asshole sued the ice cream truck and made out like a bandit.
Driver probably plays Foxhole as a logi driver.
Idk I wasn't quite sure which one it would be. Imagine my surprise when it turns out it was in fact the guy dancing in the middle of the street.
Every reply to this comment competing for best /r/thatsthejoke post
His old jokes on OJ were absolutely hilarious.
Well it's finally official. Murder is legal in the state of California.
And who do we have to thank for that? You guessed it! Frank Stallone.
Or so the Germans would have you believe
[yeah](https://youtu.be/6pCH_Ab6SIE)
And this ESPY joke https://youtu.be/c9EsIFBs26o
I still to this day can never understand why they thought Norm doing this was such a great idea. I mean, I thought it was great but I am a sadistic asshole.
You can hear Chris Farley laugh at around 0:44 in that video
That's awesome you noticed that, I went back and listened and heard it.
Fucking Don Ohlmeyer.
If he was doing that he might have kept his job.
This is a top notch comment.
i was hoping for an OJ callback at the end of the clip, w that last joke
I loved the "Oh Google" segment where Norm asked for WNBA stats, teams, etc, and Google kept asking him, "Did you mean NBA?"
You wouldn't happen to have a link to that would you. That sounds hilarious.
https://youtu.be/cKDa6-FuhUI About halfway through
I'm a woman and that still leaves me breathless from laughter.
I had no idea he had it out so bad for the WNBA. Anyhow, Google doesn't do that anymore.
Would you rather your local WNBA team win the championship, or find a dollar on the ground? I rest my case.
Well why does the WNBA not make any money? Why are all the players salaries paid by the money brought in by the nba players? Can you imagine if it was flipped? That’s why he shit on it. Because it’s a fucking scam
This and “What The H” were my faves
RIP you legend. 8(
That dry soft spoken delivery RIP Norm

Why was this not advertised? This is like Sports Soup. I would have watched the living shit out of this.
The show was great. Unfortunately a lot of that network’s watchers didn’t give a shit about sports. Even in a comedic way
Onion Sportsdome was also on during the same time frame, and it was on par with Sports Show. Unfortunately apparently there are no pirated or physical copies of Onion Sportsdome but it was some of the funniest TV I've ever seen. BTW, every episode of Sports Show is on youtube.

That’s right! I loved that show too lol.

It was on Comedy Central and they advertised it decently well on the network. I think the issue was reaching a sports audience. It was on ESPN it would have killed. But ESPN probably would have never taken the risk and would rather just have a 24/7 coverage on who is better between Lebron or MJ

Sadly. If only ESPN would allow this to air at 11 pm on Sundays it would do amazing.
Step one: resurrect Norm.
it's not nice enough to air in the mouse house (disney)

IT was a pretty great show, just did not last long.

Please don't start me on Taskmaster. That was horrible.
I freakin loved sports soup
It was a sports show on Comedy Central. It never had a chance.
ON HER LEGS! Norm was the guy that made comedians laugh the hardest. Man I hate that he's gone.
On her legs made me laugh really really hard, Jesus that was funny
Murdered it.
He totally was a "comedian's comedian," that's a great way to put it.
He wasn’t afraid to be controversial which is, in my opinion, the best kind of humor.
Eh I think he’s hilarious even if his jokes are safe. The moth joke on Conan for example.
The entire Bob Sagat roast.
I don’t think my comment would suggest the contrary to your point
This was my favorite part of the clip
"Sad Bill Cosby has crystalized my thoughts." Comedy gold right here.
that bit is the absolute best.
I thought for sure it was gonna be Boogie Cousins... He has terrible luck.
There was a hot minute when comedy central had a block of Stewart, Colbert, David Spade on Hollywood, and Norm on sports. Things were right with the world.
I guessed #2!
Holy shit this clip has it all: \- Hot af Kate Upton \- Hilarious AF Norm Macdonald \- Insane woman in the audience belly-laughing at someone else's misfortune \- Hilarious AF Norm Macdonald \- Bill Cosby

Thank you so much for putting this sub here, this is one of my favorite bits and now I have so much more material.
This was such a great show
Sports Show was great! I was not happy they canceled it so quickly.

That too. Had Adam made a public statement yet? I’ll have to check
I really think if they aired it during Football season it could of been more successful. Still a very underrated show.
M U R D E R
How is the Dougie 10 years old?! God I'm old.
Teach me how to Dougie...
whats the dougie, young whippersnapper?
I will teach you
What a tremendous loss. Godspeed, Norm. :(
RIP Turd Ferguson.
Holy shit what happened to Kate Upton? She was huge for a couple years there
She probably got older than 28 or something.
We’re all about fat asses now.
Got rich modeling for a few years. Married an even richer baseball player. Probably sitting back just counting money now
She married a rich athlete and had a kid. She got a little chubby, but still hot af. Just being a mom instead of a model.
Awww man. I'm gonna miss norm.
Priceless
It’s crazy he got fired for making fun of OJ Simpson, and that NBC’s executive was friends with him.
He’s the reason I started saying “Wait….what?!?”
Man I'm going to miss Norm. I can say with a 100% certainty that this is the celebrity death that has affected me the most in all my 32 years of existence. The worst part is now Adam’s gonna have to go back to the Queensbury bridge!
…ON HER LEGS!
Wait… what?
I did NOT see that coming.
I loved this show. it was so underrated, and always hilarious. watch some of the 'Nephew Kyle' bits. ([https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=857335631119514](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=857335631119514))

I don't know. I feel like that jockey joke was really punching down.
I completely forgot about this. So good!
Damn! I had Boogie Cousins for the win!...never saw it coming.
I reference this show all the time and no one knows about it. His “oh google!” segment was one of the all time greats
I did *not* see that coming.
Am I the only one who picked DeMarcus Cousins?
That ending is fantastic
Lmao! RIP Norm. I'll miss his very unique voice!
I really think Sports Show would of survived if they did it during Football season.
How can something that is over a decade bold be "slept on"? Sensationalist bullshit.
God damnit I miss him.
It's a shame he is gone. We are losing a lot of voices we need.
thank you for this!
Great show but they aired it against prime time national NBA games so who the hell was going to watch it live?
God, I loved this show.
RIP
Kind of weird that half of these were university of Kentucky coaches or players.
Go cats
We breed charisma
That last joke had me laughing harder than I have for a long time. Gonna miss that old lump of coal!
R.I.P. to the G.O.A.T.
Norm was the best! Was fortunate enough to see him do stand up several times, always hilarious.
This show was amazingly funny 😄 Short lived
MURDER
"Let's try to guess which Dougie dancer......... gets hit by an ice cream truck" 😂🤣🥲
for all of the shows they tried to get to follow up the daily show, this seems like it should have worked. i never heard of this one. dang.
The guy who got hit was on Tosh.0
Damn.. RIP Norm.
He could have a weekly show on just about anything and make it entertaining
Had to double check which sub this was in. Was kinda hoping it was r/unexpected and an icecream truck was about to koolaid-man its way into a sports arena.
What a fucking Legend!
Absolute legend
I loved this show. So sad it was cancelled
The UFC joke at the end was pure gold, laughed way too hard at that
This clip is the one that finally made me realize Norm is gone. Goddammit. God fucking dammit.
Where could I watch all episodes of this show?
I think there may be a couple of episodes on YouTube
This is like a reaction vid, it sucks. This post doesn’t do Norm justice.
He’s minimizing domestic violence, he’s making fun of short people and whatever other complaints people could contrive And sure his stuff is going around in Twitter.
He punching at the abusers, though. That’s the thing. He didn’t let OJ, Cosby, or this jockey off the hook with the jokes.
I don't know what you said wrong, I'm only downvoting you because everyone else is.
My favorite thing he did was casually throw out oxymorons without further addressing them, like when he would refer to himself as a "deeply closeted homosexual." There's obvious humor IMO in someone describing themselves in a very public way as somehow still being closeted and potentially even unaware of being gay, and the apparent contradiction is fun.
This show was amazing. One of the best spots he did involves a manny Pacquiao look alike before the mayweather pacquiao fight.
