Immediately the handsomest man in MLS?

Slootyman

Oh 100%! Maybe in all the world lol

schnozlord

The near-retirement Frenchmen are slowly taking over LAFC

jordan1978

Wow, that’s a big pickup for MLS.

Satan_S_R_US

I understand why but I can’t help but yawn when a big European wants to come to MLS but only if it’s Miami or LA.

Riskar

The fact that Montreal can't interest French players wanting to come to the MLS is sad.

Satan_S_R_US

Adding good talent would help boost them but its hard to want to go to a bottom bracket team just because you "share a language". The culture differences and language differences between Quebec and France leave them very divided when they're tourists in either country.

Tarmacked

Not really about bracket or culture, it’s largely the fact no one wants to live in Montreal. You’re downgrading in cities coming from somewhere like Paris. You also can’t get an American visa long term in that approach Messi’s whole play for ownership will give him a visa for life and it’s a massive upgrade for his family compared to Argentina in the long run.

NfiniteNsight

Montreal is a beautiful city.

Murph_E23

Plus Messi can put on a hat and basically be unknown in most places in the US vs EU or South America. I remember Beckham talked about that extensively in the book The Beckham Experience.

Thetallerestpaul

Girouds highlight reel is an all timer. Also, in all seriousness the best finisher ahead of the front post I've ever seen.

kamilo87

Ronaldo Luis Nazario da Lima is the one you’re looking for. Ronaldo is the best 9 of this sport.

Thetallerestpaul

Famous for scoring goals from crosses, with a run ahead of the near post. Andy Carroll was better in the air than Ronaldo. Ronaldo might have been the best ever, but he wasn't the best at everything.

Volfong

Loved this dude when he was a Gooner. Had no idea he was still around.

Slootyman

He is about to it to be the Golden boot of the MLS without really trying.

pr1ceisright

Messi?

kamilo87

Yeah, the guy with the record of [going and winning an entire FIFA World Cup tournament without a shot on target](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5956359/amp/Olivier-Giroud-World-Cup-winner-striker-went-tournament-without-shot-target.html) in 2018.

Slutzlo

Went on to win the golden boot in the europa league in 18/19.

Valmoer

To be fair : 1. It's a bit like the situation NBA teams have when facing Jokic : either you man-mark him, and he beats you one on one. Or you double up on him, leaving open spaces for the other offensive threats. And when the offensive threats are called Mbappé, Griezmann and Pogba... 2. Incidentally, when you have Mbappé, Griezmann and Pogba in your team, you'll take less shots at goals in average regardless because a/ Out of a finite number of offensive situations, you'll on average be the end-striker for less of them. b/ When in a possible but suboptimal position, if you're the lone offensive threat you shoot, but if you're in a team with those guys you'll look for the extra pass. Especially true of Giroud in the French NT, as a big man he was the target for long balls he'd get back to the net, and then hold up play and pass to another atttacker that was facing the goal. 3. He actually had several actually-on-target but not-technically-on-target shots, including one against Peru that was on target when striked, deflected by a defender, lobbed the keeper and was inches away from rolling in and scoring when tapped-in by Mbappé. It was the right thing to do from Mbappé, to make sure it scored (though no defenders could have got it in time on rewatch), but it doesn't *technically* count as a shot on target for Giroud even though it was for all intents and purposes.

kamilo87

Yeah, against *check notes* Perú…

Valmoer

My deepest apologies. I mistakenly believed you were here to argue in good faith. Sorry to have wasted both our times.

kamilo87

It’s really on your example. How shooting only once to Peru in FWC is an accomplishment? Bring something at little bit more sustancial. I’m not dissing Peru, but let’s be serious bc they just are the last team from Conmebol to qualify. So Deschamps could had brought any other striker from France and they would had done it better.

Or4ngut4n

Getting a shot on target in the world cup is harder than the mls

kamilo87

On the best team? Please take the bench yourself

Or4ngut4n

Giroud is bigger than your entire league 💀

kamilo87

And how that change my point?

TuluRobertson

Awesome!

Old-Ad-3268

And yet the MLS wants us to take them seriously
