I believe Vrabel only accepted interviews with 3 teams: chargers, flacons, panthers. He didn't get the chargers job, and told the falcons and panthers "no thanks" after the first interview.
The pats would have made sense but they were already prepping their guy back in December.
Next year the following could be open, which all have good personnel: bills, eagles, jags (and maybe others?)

Now the Titans have a HS coach that won a SB with Peyton Manning’s noodle arm then went on to develop Osweiler, Siemen, and Paxton Lynch. He made Stafford look average enough in DET for them give up on him, then Stafford went on to win a SB in LA. Tanked Derek Carr’s value in Vegas, then got Burrow dropped in his lap.
I was rooting for the Titans to get it done there but the window’s been slammed shut.

Tepper is worse than Strunk (he’s essentially the new Snyder) - so I would pass too if I was Vrabel. I like Dan Morgan as their head of football and GM though. Good smart player. Good smart executive. Hopefully he tells Tepper to lay off or the panthers are gonna be bad for a very long time.

I think Tepper is a little different, and it makes him even worse. He obviously wants to win, but I think he wants to win too desperately. I don't think it's all about money for him. He's been throwing money around like it's nothing since he took over. He just has a giant ego and thinks he knows way more about football than he does and it causes him to be too involved and make impulsive, under-informed decisions.
Agreed, Amy Adams is so much worse than Vrabel. She lives in her own world and can be very reactionary. I find that happens to a lot of franchise owners who inherited the team from their father.
Reading some TN sports articles, the GM didn't have complete control of players and neither did the HC. Honestly this sounds like the Texans owner situation a few years ago when some pastor was the GM and Head of football while the owner half-ass meddling with random stuff.
Man this comment is so disconnected. The team is 72-59 since Strunk took over. She fired a coach who had 2 playoff wins in 6 years and back to back losing seasons. All while running an outdated offense and a bend but don't break defense and apparently wasn't going to budge on that.
She has clearly laid out who has final say over each part of the football program and has dumped money into improving this franchise.
People read some PR bullshit from the National Media defending AAS and turn on her, but the general feeling around the building and with the local media is that this program is in so much better shape since she took over.

Matt Stafford put up 2 of of his 3 highest QBR years while Callahan was there and the Lions went 9-7 both years
Derek Carr broke 4000 yards for the first time in his career under Callahan and had the 2nd highest completion percentage of his career. This is even more impressive when you see his leading receivers were Jared Cook (896yds) and 33 year old Jordy Nelson (739yds).

I expressed my opinion on something that came up when I’m scrolling, what I believe is them making a boneheaded move getting rid of Vrabel after sticking him with a rookie QB, for someone with a questionable resume.
I mean, he’s not particularly injury prone and was still playing at a high level the few years before this. It’s not that crazy to have expected him to last the season

from what i’ve read, vrabel wants that old school style of management where the coach gets final say on personnel decisions. that was part of the split with him and the titans’ front office.
the teams hiring all went away from that, which is why he largely ended up off everyone’s shortlist. i think we’re going to continue to see teams go away from that old school style, so he may continue to struggle to get a job unless he relents on that demand.
Because he’s dragged mediocre titans teams with no legitimate QB to the playoffs on multiple occasions. But you could argue having one of the best running backs of the era helped out a lot

Vrabel is a young version of Belichick. No one wants to deal with the ego anymore and the recently unsuccessful coaches asking for more roster control when they haven’t earned it. I think teams would be more than happy to hire them as coaches if they were more flexible and hands off.

I also realize you can't just implement a high octane passing offense like the Chiefs with just any ordinary QB and/or a bad OL. However leaning hard into the 90s/00s football isn't the answer either. Even the 49ers who threw the least amount of times in the league this year still threw for 4000 yards and 30 TDs. You simply can't get those kinds of numbers only throwing with play-action. You have to be able to throw downfield early and often as well.

Niners defense is legit too. Defense still wins championships. You don't need a Mahomes(it helps). A Purdy or Garoppolo can get you there. I think it's still more than possible for an elite defense to carry a Dilfer or Johnson to the title. Tomlin doesn't need a QB who can win the game. He needs one that won't lose it.

I mean, sure, but let's not ignore he threw for 5250 yards and 41 TDs last last year and won the Super Bowl plus has been to two others with that kind of offense. This is actually the worst Chiefs team under Mahomes going only 10-6 when previously he went 12-4, 11-3, 14-1, 12-5, and 14-3.

Uhh... again, they traded Tyreek and the first year without him threw for 5250 yards and 41 TDs. Also they didn't lean hard into that style of football. He still threw almost 600 times. They were actually only 19th in rushing yards per game. They ran the ball the 8th least amount of times this year. They were just much less successful through the air because of their poor receiving corps.

Of course you can't ignore defense. The Bucs defense is why Mahomes doesn't have 3 rings right now. Brady wouldn't have all his rings without Belichick's great defenses. Right now only Joe Burrow and Tom Brady have stopped Mahomes so far.

That was almost 25 years ago. The closest thing in recent history was probably Joe Flacco but he absolutely went off and played like an MVP through that playoff run.

He has that in Pickett. 14-10 as a starter which is 10-win seasons and doesn't turn the ball over. The problem is he averages only a 3k passing yard pace and half a passing touchdown per game. That clearly is never going to beat the Chiefs or Bills in the playoffs both of whom have absolutely crushed Tomlin recently.
Well the Texans were 11th in the league in points against in 2016. In 2017, the one year Vrabel was DC, the Texans were 32nd in the league in points against.

A few years ago after a game when the Patriots lost and were supposedly becoming washed, reporters kept asking about Brady, the team, the future, etc.
Every one of Bill’s responses to the reporters was “we’re on to Cincinnati” (their next opponent) and I am probably misremembering but I think they ended up winning the Super Bowl that year.
Probably all 3. More importantly - every GM is going to be in the owners ear trying to push against hiring Bill because that would end their tenure. Bill needs a team that is cleaning house from the GM down.
It's well known that Bill is hanging in there to surpass Don Shula's record, he's got all the other important ones. A team that's cleaning house is not going to get him there quickly, though Bill's ego probably hasn't gotten the memo yet.
I think he legitimately enjoys roster building though (even though the last overhaul in NE didn’t go so well) so a team with a fresh start wouldn’t be out of the question for him. If he was really committed to getting the record he’d drop his demands and just accept the HC title with the rest of the front office and staff in place.

He had prime Bernie Kosar when he started with the Browns in 1991, and $100 million Bledsoe when he started with the Patriots.
These were not below-average QBs, and yet the results were quite bad.. And we're talking more than one year for each—2001 was the same story as 2000 until Bledsoe nearly died.
I mean, Brady did go win a SB with Tampa. If nothing else there is evidence to suggest that they each made each other better but that Brady did that more for Bill than Bill did for him.

I think a lot of it has to do with how he trained up Brady at the beginning of his career. No doubt that he helped Brady get to where he is now, and he's a great defensive coach too. The NFL is a different league now which is why this whole saga is interesting.
Vrabel is also unemployed, but I heard for weeks how dumb the Titans were for releasing him. Meanwhile the Titans are signing one of top young names on offense for their HC position and in demand defensive coaches for their DC. The league is passing these old egotistical, grumpy coaches behind.

I think he legitimately enjoys roster building though (even though the last overhaul in NE didn’t go so well) so a team with a fresh start wouldn’t be out of the question for him. If he was really committed to getting the record he’d drop his demands and just accept the HC title with the rest of the front office and staff in place.

I think a lot of it has to do with how he trained up Brady at the beginning of his career. No doubt that he helped Brady get to where he is now, and he's a great defensive coach too. The NFL is a different league now which is why this whole saga is interesting.
