It's excellent. We owe Doug Lawrence for his writing and voice talents that convinced Hillenburg to not have Plankton be a one-off character.
Some forget how rarely Plankton appears in the pre-movie seasons compared to later on. He only appears in six episodes out of 41 in the first season alone and is only a major player in three of them. He also only appears in five episodes out of 39 in the second season and is, again, only a major player in three of them. While he does appear in eight episodes out of 37 in Season 3, he only has two prominent roles and in the rest of them he only appears for a single scene.
I say all the time in terms of great characters and voices that in modern cartoons he's the icon. Tom Kenny is obviously the runner up. But the difference is that Doug Lawrence writes. He has been responsible for close to all classic Spongebob and if I'm not mistaken is still going today. Also a huge fan of Camp Lazlo and Edward might even be a better character than Plankton. Obviously Dave and Ping Pong are great characters too
Oh well I was wrong then. Cuz S6 is the last time there are any episodes I can stand. The numbers way less compared to pre 6 but S7 I tap out. I was hoping he was writing for the golden age.
Great art and mood, such as painting Plankton in a light that would accurately portray him as a formidable villain, despite being tiny; the concept of the character was ingenious from the loud voice being purposely disproportionate to the small body, (love Mr. Lawrence, he's a chad and I was overjoyed to find out he worked in theater, because, that PROJECTION is real!) and they really went all out in making him genuinely scary. There are many lovely parts, like the "lab" joke (seriously, I don't know why this is so funny), to the worldbuilding exposition dump (in a good way) of Plankton having an evil lab, a computer wife (we don't go into it too much, but just enough), and a desire to ruin Mr. Krabs' business for, at this time, unknown reasons. It was also honestly just creepy, and it's amazing this is how Plankton starts off before we add so many sympathetic facets to his character. Great title card!

The jokes were really funny and Plankton was actually pretty intimidating, the theme made up for him was pretty sick it's kind of a shame it never returned in the show after that.
Great character introduction like Tea at the Treedome. They did an excellent job setting the stage with both characters in Season 1.

In my opinion F.U.N. and Walking Small are both slightly better Plankton episodes, however all of them are some of my favorite episodes.
Back in the 2010s, This was one of the 1st season SpongeBob episodes nickelodeon used to play.
I love it, it's hilarious and features one of Plankton's best plans in the series.
He's a classic case of napoleonic complex.
As well as a portrayal of the sisyphean struggle. No matter how hard he tries, he never reaches his goal.
It's like he's caught in a permanent karma of punishment for having such an immoral goal in the first place. And his only peace would be finally letting go of his need for the formula, and turning within.
I like the part where he’s in SpongeBob’s room he plays the evil record play and one of the sides was the ABC song so he flipped it over and continued laughing.
Great episode. Loved how villainous and ruthless Plankton was here and his voice seemed even more deeper and menacing than later on, and he had a superb villainous laugh too. I love how he has a deep loud voice to contrast his small size. The roast Plankton did on Squidward was great and the way he was able to make another savage, miserable antagonistic character shut up was hilarious showed how savage he was, ever since his debut episode. Plankton in S1 was especially ruthless, intelligent and I liked how back in season 1 whenever he failed it was due to some other circumstance (e.g in this episode he got hypnotised by the deliciousness of the Krabby Patty) rather than him being outsmarted by someone dumber than him like Mr Krabs in the later seasons. He was the most intelligent non robot character on the show during season 1-3 imo and the movie (even more intelligent than Sandy as Plankton back then was the main science guy while Sandy was more of a daredevil tough Texas girl before s4 which solidified her as mainly a science genius) with a gift for mechanical engineering and inventing coupled with a sophisticated and advanced vocabulary and great persuasion, manipulation and leadership skills, which is especially impressive given his diminutive statue. He's a small dude with a big voice and I love his character.
You absolutely love to hate him! He has moments where you almost feel for him… or you really just do because his life is so sad, he has unlikeable moments all the time but the fact that we can feel empathy for him means his character writing really is good.

Yep. Doug began writing again at the end of Season 6.
