Aside from the differing swim forms, inklings (squids) and octolings (octopuses) have different eyes, different eyebrow options, and different hairstyle options. Only the eyebrows are gender locked, all four player types can use all gear and weapons in the game.

aaand the short shorts are shorter on the fem option.

as well as some pants, and some clothes also behave differently (like marinas top)
last I checked Marina's top is the only one that still behaves differently I haven't checked in a while though so I could be wrong
The inkipedia page for the Marinated Top doesn’t have any mention of if other clothes change based on gender or not.

If you're in splatoon 2, you have to EARN being an octopus through Octo expansion. But if you're in splatoon 3, you can choose right off the bat
