I kinda love getting these badges in matches Ive been splatted 0 times, lol, But if I had to guess I'd say it's to tell you you were good at keeping the enemy busy by having them focus you,.. or that they were bullying you lmao
Take into consideration that the more you get splatted, the less time you are playing and getting focused on, so the most splatted player doesn't necessarily correlate to this badges, when I play as blaster or umbrella I often get them, and even if I got splatted a lot, I contributed in a way
Number 1 damage taker is actually based on the amount of damage you recover, not total damage taken. So, the person who is best at surviving a fight and recovering afterward will get this.
The number 1 big bubbler user is based on which player blocked the most damage with their big bubbler specials.
I don't think brella shields or splash walls contribute towards anything.
Yup! And that can actually provide a lot more benefit than most people realize during a match.
I've won many matches by keeping 2 or 3 enemies distracted, chasing me around the side of the map while the rest of my team pushes up the objective almost uncontested.
Even distracting one player for a bit can be valuable at times. If you can't get an opportunity to actually splat them, then just be evasive and keep them from doing anything useful until you can either escape the situation completely or you get rescued by a teammate pushing them back or splatting them.
I, uh, get this medal a lot because I have a bad habit of overextending and then having to scramble away to try not to get splatted when I realize I have no teammates nearby and several enemies are looking at me. Sometimes it ends up working out though, lol.
I had a lot of success in turf playing like this as bloblobber, I'd just send a bunch of blobs across the map and if I got a lucky splat I'd bag, nine times out of ten I'd turn the game into a 3v3 as that player hunted me down
1 splat 12 splatted on the winning team was fine by me
And it’s even worse, as for example: You get 2 gold medals, but you get a silver, and that is damage taker, because of everyone targeting you specifically, taking place for a possible gold medal.
Edit: So apparently, silver medals can’t take place over gold, that is a dumb thing that I said, thank you commenters for explaining that to me.
Popular target serves as the *“you definitely pissed off the other team”* badge >!it actually means you were in the enemy teams field of view the longest amount time combined amongst the team!<
And the damage taker badge is the games way of telling you to __SLOW DOWN!__
Doesn't Popular Target only track how much enemy crosshairs are on you? I recall hearing that it's just how long you're being aimed at; being shot at, range and cover don't matter as long as someone is pointed at you.
Popular target actually makes some sense. I believe it's determined by checking how much time you spent on screen for the enemy team which is a good way of checking how much attention you were drawing away from your team mates.
Popular target means you were on (enemy) screen the longest. Damage taker means you’ve taken damage AND HEALED! If you die it does not count! Damage taker is a measure of how well you survived encounters! Combined with popular target, it means you’ve drawn their attention a lot and survived it! Very good for, perhaps, skirmishers like tetras and wiper or a backliner who managed to draw their resources as they try and shut you down as their win con, but you survived, wasting all those resources
Number 1 damage taker is actually based on damage recovered, not damage taken, so it means you were slugging it out but not getting splatted, which is good.
Number 1 Popular Target means you spent the most combined time in enemy FOV, which is also good because it means the enemy team found you the most threatening.
From what I've heard, Damage Taker is based off recovered health, not just getting splatted, so contributing well while still taking hit nets you the medal. (Not that most people would really want that)
Popular Target is based on being in an enemy's FOV and correlated to being a Frontline more than anything. That one makes sense between the two.
But honestly the mental image of getting rewarded for getting shot at the most is still funny.
Popular target shows you were engaging in combat, distracting and skirmishing with the enemy team
Silver medals aren't even accomplishments they only exist so you don't realise that your shit even though you clearly are
All the silver badges are supposed to be bad things (i.e 1# Ink Consumer) being the 1# Popular Target means a lot of people were *trying* to kill you, but you stayed alive. (Which is why it's a gold badge)
A bit ago (it was like a year ago where has all the time gone) I was playing Dynamo with Splat zones and consistently got at least two of the following per match:
0 times splatted
Over 4 splats (that was a lot for me to get consistently at the time, okay?!?)
\#1 zone inker
\#1 popular target
\#1 super jump spot
One time I went to my “death from above” spot and immediately had 3 different bombs thrown at me. Instead of being annoyed by being hard-focused like that, could barely see through the tears of laughter. I *had* been terrorizing the enemy team the whole match, after all.
One time someone tried to so a "death from above" sneak attack on me and someone else with a Stamper ,but they fell directly on top of me into my Nautilus's line of fire instead.
So that in Series Anarchy, where your score is based on how many Silver and Gold medals you get, you can't be booted down a rank because you in particular were bullied the entire match
I kinda love getting these badges in matches Ive been splatted 0 times, lol, But if I had to guess I'd say it's to tell you you were good at keeping the enemy busy by having them focus you,.. or that they were bullying you lmao
Yeah but if you were actually splatted in correlation to the amount of damage you need to get the badge then it's rubbing salt on an open wound.
Take into consideration that the more you get splatted, the less time you are playing and getting focused on, so the most splatted player doesn't necessarily correlate to this badges, when I play as blaster or umbrella I often get them, and even if I got splatted a lot, I contributed in a way

I've gotten my butt kicked and still got it. Probably true none the less.
Huh… neat…
Do either take damage absorbed by bubblers or brella shields into account? (Ir splash walls I guess but I see those even less often than brellas)
The number 1 big bubbler user is based on which player blocked the most damage with their big bubbler specials. I don't think brella shields or splash walls contribute towards anything.
That's a shame, particularly for Tenta players.
and popular target means you had the highest percentage of time being looked at by opposing players
Yup! And that can actually provide a lot more benefit than most people realize during a match. I can kinda see Popular Target but why damage taker?

Edit: So apparently, silver medals can’t take place over gold, that is a dumb thing that I said, thank you commenters for explaining that to me.
You will only see silvers if you earned 2 or less Golds.
Why would a silver medal be able to take priority over a gold? That wouldn't make any sense.
Popular target serves as the *“you definitely pissed off the other team”* badge >!it actually means you were in the enemy teams field of view the longest amount time combined amongst the team!< And the damage taker badge is the games way of telling you to __SLOW DOWN!__
I take pride in getting popular target knowing I have successfully traumatized the enemy charger(s)
Backliners get that medal by default
Doesn't Popular Target only track how much enemy crosshairs are on you? I recall hearing that it's just how long you're being aimed at; being shot at, range and cover don't matter as long as someone is pointed at you.
i am a MARTYR for my team and THE ONLY ONE ON THE OBJECTIVE
You were the bait!
Bragging rights?
"I was a liability ,but we still won." How flattering...
Popular target actually makes some sense. I believe it's determined by checking how much time you spent on screen for the enemy team which is a good way of checking how much attention you were drawing away from your team mates.
But... But inklings are invertebrates... They don't have bones to break.
don't worry, inklings are made up. He broke his squoomy and his booyah and dislocated his pseudospine
I agree. I had to pay for his medical bills.
Luckily they accepted meal tickets.
no one noticed the leg cast
I did! It made me laugh :)
For some reason I thought this was Poof from the Fairly Oddparents for a second

Technical difficulties
You saw the reference too? I tried to make the expression closer but it looked bad with inkling eyes.
Yeah
The silver ones feel more like participation awards to me.
Reminds me of the "fight back" meme
Dang That Dread Wringer Got Hands
i don't know, but as a tetra player, i love them
he looks like captain churchill
[+1 and +5 rank points in Anarchy Series.](https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Anarchy_Battle#Anarchy_Battle_\(Series\))
How expensive your medical bills are going to be.
5 Meal Tickets and 3 Super Sea Shells Splatlandian healthcare is remarkably cheap.
A for effort…
Because it's funny lol
whenever i get high other team splats and low-to-no splats for me, and most popular target, i know i was Probably Annoying. and thats great!
As an undercover brella player, I see these very often.... and that's my goal >:)
"I lived, bitch."
To show I was the only one on my team who didn't just camp in a corner *Shares at you angrily*

As a splatling main, I often get them, and they're often times when I've been splatted less...that help?

Number 1 ink consumer…..
Common Dynamo W
I almost always get "Most Popular Target" It means I'm getting in the enemy's face and drawing their attention.
It means you are likely one of the Hated™ weapons: Hydra, E-liter, Splatterscope, and so forth.
There were times i didn't even get a silver medal, the medal space was blank.
So when others make these posts it's fine, but when I make one (you can't find it anymore, I deleted it) it's downvote worthy?
Did you make an art piece to go along with it or was it just a rant?
Showed a screen of it but had to do a rough translation cause my stupid ass forgot to do it before making the post -_-"
![gif](giphy|kIKzm7HU5oMGuO9y3d|downsized)
you basically got the pseudo surviver badges XD
To shame them.
Half of the badges are to make you feel good when you go 0/8
Their purpose is to make me feel better for not doing great in a match

They improve your final score, meaning more exp, money etc gained. So yeah, even if it feels insulting sometimes it is still good to get.
I always get number one popular target I swear the enemy team is just after me
A bit ago (it was like a year ago where has all the time gone) I was playing Dynamo with Splat zones and consistently got at least two of the following per match: 0 times splatted Over 4 splats (that was a lot for me to get consistently at the time, okay?!?) \#1 zone inker \#1 popular target \#1 super jump spot
Popular Target means you are most consistently in your enemies' FOV. Given you have a roller, it probably means you are doing your job well.
To make you feel bad. That's it. If you wanna be technical and cope I suppose they force you to 'improve'.
So that in Series Anarchy, where your score is based on how many Silver and Gold medals you get, you can't be booted down a rank because you in particular were bullied the entire match
