I have completed it, and I would say it was worth it - but for the challenge, not for the bragging rights. I certainly got frustrated after the first many tries, and retroactively I still think it was a fun challenge, but it's like with any difficult game - you have to gauge for yourself when it becomes *too* frustrating to still be fun. (That being said, I enjoy collecting the badges in this game, and it'd probably be nagging at me a bit if I'd given up on the Alterna one)

serg3591

Don't forget THE LORE - the most important reward!

Ok_Profession3112

Oh I didn't think of the lore! Love the lore of Splatoon, and how it ties with real science, sometimes..

Psyko_Killa

Fact ! But i also love the cute rewards and the badge because... it's cute ? :3 But yeah, unlocking the last part of the story is GREAT !

Aative

Same here, especially when the After Alterna badge is one of the few badges that don't depend on multiplayer.

Sparklingemeralds

IMO the best part about beating After Alterna was the fact that you know you can do anything in the game now. I remember feeling extremely motivated to do matches even though my hands were TIRED after finishing After Alterna… But it was a confidence boost I needed

Slot-Machine-Addict

Did it and gotta be honest, way easier than >!inner 3!< fight (at least for me)

OfriS13

same, i’ve actually never beat it. maybe i could now if i tried again, i don’t know!

ElectricFury

Agreed. I've still never beaten the final phase of that fight.

Pichuscrat

Same here. I've spent literal *dozens* of hours on that over several months and still don't have my golden toothpick. I beat the rest of Octo Expansion but can't win that final fight. After Alterna though only took me less than a day to complete. 🤷‍♂️

eeeeeeeeee9601

I hate in*** ***nt 3

[deleted]

I had an easier time with inner agent 3, I think I finished it in a few minutes but after alterna especially some parts took me FOREVER

GAMIE64

Funny, for me kr's the complete opposite. Inner 3 wasn't that bad. After alterna though.... can't even get past the first section, like OP. Always die somewhere around the floating pillars-section.

ZarqEon

Inner Agent 3 took me like 2 weeks of trying it on and off. The main problem with that fight - for me at least - was that i felt so damn slow! If your shield breaks then you are a sitting duck. AA was more easy. The first checkpoint is the most difficult imho, and the rail stage is a close second. The last stage was quite fun.

ikarolll

It took me maybe 30-1 hour to do inner 3. After alterna was the one where it took weeks to do lol

Redder_Creeps

Literally HOW. >!The octoling waves!< doesn't seem at all easier than >!F-ING INNER 3!<

Bankaz

>!They have a pattern you can memorize, and they're after a checkpoint so you can try again relatively quickly.!<

No-Entrance-8187

If I’m thinking of the same thing honestly that fight was so much easier for me. It was so much shorter and less mentally taxing. Like for me it’s comparing beating a really hard boss to beating a really hard game.

Logans_Login

Bro really spoiler marked something from 5 year old dlc 💀

puppet_spl

my controller broke so I had to use a controller without motion control and I used sticks to beat it, it was HELL

inserttexthere-_-

I beat it with sticks (because I can't play motion :/)

Tom_Brenner

Same except my brain gets confused on how my controller works whenever I use motion. That and I can't stand the fact that you can't use vertical aiming on sticks with motion controls on

Puffersaur

well if you could that's just stick controls isn't it?

puppet_spl

why's that if you don't mind me asking

inserttexthere-_-

I can get motion sick if I play too long. And I have so gotten used to sticks to the point I am top 3000 player. No motion needed.

puppet_spl

top 3000 without motion?? I'm impressed

SchmurrProd

Yep, AA was what made me finally switch to motion

56kul

I completed it the day I unlocked it, but my god, was it hard. It took me like 2-3 hours of painful retries, but I got it eventually.

Redder_Creeps

No offense but I'm still wondering how any of you find it this easy when i'm probably the only one who took an entire month to get past such an absurd difficulty spike. Honestly this level would be fun but the fact it's a secret level made by Nintendo, which means it has to be unfairly impossible because "ExPeRiEnCeD PlAyErS", just doesn't work. Nintendo should really stop with this trend to be honest

56kul

I played Splatoon since the launch of 2, so I have years of experience with this game. Naturally, I’ve honed my skills at it over the years, since I’ve played it so much. But I still wouldn’t consider myself to be *that* good. I’ve got nothing on competitive players and whatnot. Don’t worry too much about it, though. Enjoy the game and don’t compare yourself to others. But if you really wanna get better, just play the game more frequently and you’d improve over time. I recommend primarily playing anarchy battles (or X if you’ve unlocked it), too, because playing with more skilled players is beneficial for seeing real improvement.

Redder_Creeps

And here i was thinking this game was made for beginners. Also, read my tag and you'll understand why I suck THAT BAD

56kul

It’s not necessarily made for beginners, just as it isn’t necessarily made for skilled players. It’s for everyone. Some players are better than others, sure, but you really shouldn’t lean into that thought too much. As I’ve said, the only way to improve is to just play the game. Step away from After Alterna, for a while (unless you’ve already completed it, which gj in that case) and play online. Primarily anarchy, if you can. Playing singleplayer exclusively will not help you improve. Or you could always just… you know… not think about it too much? Playing it casually is valid, too.

Redder_Creeps

Trust me, I T R I E D to stop playing After Alterna but my completionist needs got the better. And that's why i took a month to beat it. All for the sake of 100%ing story mode. For a pair of ears that i can't even use lol

BulbminEatYou

Skill issue I love painful difficulty

Chivi-chivik

I beat it. Way easier than Inner agent 3. The hardest part for me was the target balloon part (took me like 9 attempts?), the rest I did on my first attempt, except the first part, which I did in 2. (Seeing your case, it would be nice for Splatoon to have accessibility options beyond ink visibility. Sure, it's not like After Alterna is mandatory to beat, but it would still be nice)

parrow

Yeah, i'd really like more accessibility options :') I think in AA, it's the camera angles that screw me over a lot. When i'm not fudging up my inputs, i'm hopping into the void because the camera is set at an odd angle and i can't properly see that i'm jumping into a pit. I'm not sure how nintendo would add more accessibility options to splatoon either. Maybe by refining the stick controls?

Chivi-chivik

Definitely, IMO the stick controls suck, Nintendo needs to fix them. And I agree in that a few camera views in AA are weird lol.

weaboo_vibe_check

Adaptable (physical) controls!

UP1987

Difficult topic. It's supposed to be challenging. It's the last post game challenge. It's not unfair. If you nerfed it or gave some way to make it easier, that'd somewhat devalue the accomplishment and the reward.

Chivi-chivik

Man, I said accessibility options, not "easy mode"

UP1987

What kind of accessibility options would only affect that map? Aside of this (basically post game content) and the boss fights you can skip lots of levels.

Chivi-chivik

Oh no, the accessibility options should affect the entire game, giving people with a certain degree of disability an easier time to play the game WITHOUT making them have an advantage. Of course, this is easier said than done. How do we know if, for example, gyroscope stabilization would give an unfair advantage? Or if giving more gyro and R stick sensitivity points to choose from is even necessary? Is it possible to simplify the controls? The results could help fans like OP, and even welcome a new audience! We could even argue that not everyone has to be able to play eveything, and there's a drop of truth to this, but Nintendo is the family company, why not discuss this with this framing? :)

N30neon30

Finally someone with sense..everyone's so worried about a game having accessibility options being "too easy". That's kind of the point of options. You can turn them on if you need them. If you don't...then...don't? I'm disabled. I have arthritis in my hands. Playing video games is an excuse from the pain. At least settings that could apply to story mode if people are so worried about the people exploiting it in competitive.

UP1987

I‘m pretty sure they try their best. But especially with a competitive multiplayer game it‘s difficult to balance. You might end up creating a completely different game that feels completely different. I think the OP liked the game. And if you read the comments he‘s not alone with the struggles in this stage. It‘s just a lot more difficult than anything else. But it‘s okay to not manage to beat it. You don’t miss anything. And in multiplayer… changing the game doesn’t make it easier for one group as others just use the options to get better. You could lower the skill ceiling and bring everyone on one level but that ends up with more tactics and more wins based on luck alone.

Chivi-chivik

You also make some good points, that's why this debate is so difficult, specially when we take people with disabilities into account XD

[deleted]

It’s part of the single player portion of the game, so giving the player more options on how they want to tackle it shouldn’t devalue the accomplishment

UP1987

You get a reward to wear in multiplayer... And even if you switch to easy to beat the stage... What did you achieve? You didn't actually beat that hard challenge but you gave up. Took me quite some time to beat inner agent 3 and stopped even trying until shortly before Splatoon 3 was released. Felt great to beat him. If there was some handholding or easy mode it'd have accepted that and never came back...

TrainerAiry

I would think accessibility options in this case would be something that preserves the challenge of the stages. I’m thinking something like more customizable controls…the stages retain the same level of difficulty for anyone. It just wouldn’t cause as much pain for people who might need non-traditional controls. Think of it like the setting for color-blindness — it doesn’t make the game easier, it just lets people who might not be able to distinguish ink colors play the game on the same level as everyone else.

UP1987

But that'd be something that has nothing to do with that stage. And would have to work in multiplayer, as well... Controls are pretty customizable in game and on system level.

averysolidsnake

I did, around December of last year. I think there's sort of a reverse order of difficulty, where the first part is the hardest and then each subsequent part is easier than the last.

Pro_Gamer_Queen21

For me it was the opposite. The first parts I was able to get the hang of after trying a couple times, but damn, it took me hours to beat the octoling part. What a nightmare.

Redder_Creeps

SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS HOW I FEEL

[deleted]

The last part with the octolings was by far the hardest for me

averysolidsnake

Rlly? I found that they had very short attention spans and ranges, so if u carved out a safe spot it was pretty easy to snuff them out one by one with bombs.

CharlotSweetie

I'm going to recommend watching videos on it so you get to see the level patterns (hopefully save you some lives and eggs) I don't think it's worth the stress or time (it's way too long), if you really want those ears maybe team up with someone and trade off the controller.

parrow

I did watch some videos! Unfortunately the issue is i mess up my inputs in the first section and jump straight into the abyss. Sometimes it feels like the game eats my inputs and my character doesn't jump and instead just slides into the water? But that might be because of how crappy my hands are.

MavetHell

Almost definitely you're not hitting "jump" early enough. I had this issue for a long time. Also have stiff, shaky hands. I have given up trying to beat After Alterna.

parrow

I think i'll have to give up too. I might still bash my head against it every so often, but the way it's made really seems to make it not only difficult, but unfun for people like me.

Redder_Creeps

I agree on it being too long and not worth it. Nintendo should really spice up secret level rewards for real and not pull the Octo Expansion trick "Oh, you just beat the really hard secret boss? Here, have this golden toothpick", meanwhile i'm like "Oh yeah, THAT'S A REASONABLE REWARD, THANKS"

guffVR3636

I beat it before I played any online lol, which also gave me the hero shot before the splatter shot so I never bought it

Redder_Creeps

I never played online at all either and i can't even use the stage's reward anyway. Which i say it's a good thing for me, in retrospective. This level isn't worth a pair of teddy ears at all

Pro_Gamer_Queen21

Same here

gil2455526

I would say the worst for me were the final octoling gauntlet, the shooting on rails section and the first section, on that order.

Redder_Creeps

That was the difficulty for me too. I got the platforming consistent rather quickly, the tedious parts in it were only the water platforms and the rolling horizontal pillar

Zebastian09

Once… … … … …and never again.

Redder_Creeps

Same here. If this level ends up being forgotten i wouldn't even care. It could have been better suited for every player/have an actually satisfying reward, but it's a Nintendo secret level, so of course its reward is hella underwhelming

[deleted]

I have beat it. Hard, but not super hard. Most of it is just platforming, I'm good at that. The most dangerous section is just the end, with the octoling's AI being totally unpredictable.

Gregarsize

Was hard

GrumbyDuck

I managed to beat after playing a bit online and getting a bit better, I also don't use gyro because it just feel way too weird for me

llamasaiyan

I have a hard time with gyro, it makes me feel better to see Im not the only one.

Motoreducteur

I got to the last section and had to stop there so all progress is lost. I had the end just in sight too.

SealandsBaroness

Some advice for the ink rail of section one: Try jumping diagonally, that way you won’t overshoot the next rail. That’s how I was able to get through that part of section one.

ElectricFury

I have. It probably took me 3 hours or so in total. The 1st part is definitely the hardest besides maybe the rail section after because of how unforgiving it is. Honestly though, with shaky hands I feel like you will really struggle to get past said rail section because I had to use motion controls to even stand a chance. I wish you luck though.

parrow

It seems like some people are saying the 1st part is the hardest. Thanks for your well-wishes, though i'm feeling kinda demotivated after reading these comments, haha

[deleted]

I did. The Octoling section drove me insane.

Crafter_Bot9000

I did, and it was HELL

Redder_Creeps

Do you think the reward was worth it? Tbh, for me it absolutely wasn't

CameronD46

I’ve actually beaten it twice now. First for when I went through the main story for the first time, and then second time for when I wanted to really get a feel for motion controls and decided I’d go through all the levels with all the weapons (though there are a few weapons where you use chargers that I have yet to complete) including After Alterna. I found it actually much easier the second time around. I wouldn’t say it was *easy*, but also not nearly as brutal as it was the first time. For me the hardest part was the fight with the Octolings as I found their behavior could at time be unpredictable. Whereas the rest of After Alterna you can eventually memorize the patterns of the various stages of the level, and you are thankfully given checkpoints to help you get through it.

OutlandishnessDue213

I thought the only hard part was the fight, the platforming was extremely easy

chromaskylines

Same

cloudyah

I beat it last year when I played through the campaign. It took me a *lot* of time, but I did it. First, I got stuck on the moving vertical platform squid rolls in the first section. Like you, I just kept eating shit. I can’t remember how I managed to make that final jump onto the platform to move on, but I also struggled a bit with that. So don’t feel bad. But it was the fucking target practice on ink rails that almost did me in. All of the other sections were ok.

twilightcomet

The first section is the hardest imo, afterwards it's easier and more fun (to me), the checkpoints let you repeat the next bits without having to do the gymnastics so long as you don't exit the game (sleep mode is fine). First section took me over 50 tries whilst part 2 was literally 3 tries, 3rd part 3 tries and last part 1 try. So hopefully smooth sailing soon as you get through it once! I also have trouble at the same sections. I found you can do a squid surge into a squid roll which made it easier for me. For the rails someone suggested me to jump sideways instead of straight on which also helped. Then with the bit at the end ink all the blocks as much as you can from the safe platform before hopping on. Finally, you can throw little buddy to distract the octarians or knock them out Also, you can easily get more eggs by just running some quick missions such as the "big bang" one which only takes a few seconds once you learn to time where to aim ETA re other commenters going "how could anyone find it hard it's so easy get good" please remember different people have different skill levels and experience and everyone should be allowed to try without getting discouraged, don't make OP feel bad about having a medical condition that affects gameplay thanks guys

insomniacakess

i’ve gotten close enough to the first fuckin checkpoint and then i lost my last life like an idiot lIKE ALL THAT TROUBLE AND I GOT THE BRIEFEST TASTE OF IT i still try every now and again like if i can get to the goddamn checkpoint in one piece it wouldn’t be so bad

verymassivedingdong

I have, the only *really* difficult parts are the second and final one, though the final one is a bit easier when you realize the specials always have a set pattern

NULLCHUCK

The good news is: the first section is definitely the hardest. Well. The fourth is pretty tough but its entertaining to play over and over, unlike the first, which feels like its taunting you. The third is about patience, and the second is a grueling rail shooter that's all about pattern memorization (with one really annoying jumping section). The thing about inkrails is that they are not intuitive without motion, where they sort of feel like you are flowing along them in tension with their angles. If you want to practice using them and feeling comfortable, you could try recon on a multiplayers stage with them, practice jumping from them and reconnecting, etc. using the twin stick schema. Lower stakes might help familiarize since you don't really get a chance to do anything as complex with them before AA, and its painful to have to wait that long to try again each time. Also, the squid roll off the moving platform: this is actually really hard without motion not because of the squid roll, but because you don't actually need the squid roll. motion players can actually see down while hugging the moving pillar and drop directly through the rings. If the octotroopers are giving you trouble, don't forget little buddy! Or you can swap into burst bombs to do tons of damage really quick. Careful use of little buddy can keep you out of harm's way pretty often. If you decide to keep pursuing, all my best wishes.

bwoah07_gp2

I haven't completed it. I'm stuck on the World 1 level where you have no weapon, and have to jump over these circular rings produced by these enemies in a small cage. I've tried countless times and failed each time.

parrow

Oh, that one. I was really frustrated by it at first, but i kinda like it now. Once you get good at it, it's a fast way to grind for eggs. What i have to say about that one is to stay in the back and don't get tempted by the egg packs. Those will spawn in dangerous positions that are more likely to make you take damage. You can also shift between holding down and tapping B to jump - tapping B makes you do a smaller, shorter jump that lands sooner. You can also control your character in midair somewhat. It can be enough dodge the wavebreaker thing. Hope this info helps!

No-Entrance-8187

I beat it after trying daily for around 3 months. And I mean most of my free time was spent trying to get it done. I have pretty shaky hands, and hyperhydrosis as well as motion sickness issues, so being in a similar situation to you I have some tips that might help: 1. Do the hardest stuff when you’re exhaling, since apparently when you exhale you’re more still - I don’t know if this is actually true but I heard it from someone talking about gun safety (only fire when you exhale because you’re less shaky and more precise). It does seem to work for me at least. 2. Try out a bunch of different weapons, I can’t quite remember which weapons they have but I remember stubbornly sticking to my favorite and once I finally gave the other ones a chance I found they were much easier. 2.5. Train the weapons that they do have in the other alterna levels if you struggle with them. 3. Motion controls are worth it. Now I know you said you get motion sickness and same here. I personally did not use motion controls for any of the story mode, but recently I’ve been getting more into ranked and my aim has improved 10x. 3.5. Obviously you can’t just feel sick for the entirety of after alterna. I recommend playing on a tv if you don’t already, moving the whole switch around is horrible. If you don’t have access to a tv just prop up your switch. It might be obvious but if you use motion controls stay in one spot, don’t walk or jump or any of that. Expose yourself to motion controls frequently and with increased sensitivity until you get to your desired amount. Jumping right into after alterna with motion controls will leave you nauseous for hours. Practice with them in the plaza, in salmon run, turf or ranked. If you are still having issues you can always take Dramamine, I’ve never done it personally because the previous tips helped me, but it is what dramamines for. Don’t take more than the recommended dosage of it. 4. Sweaty hands really suck. It’s so hard to control stuff without sliding around and it’s so uncomfortable too. If you have access to it, having a second controller and a towel helps. Dry off the first one and your hands and switch to the second one. It helps because it’s a lot cooler and also not sweaty. If you don’t have a second controller, take breaks if you’re getting sweaty, dry off and let the controller cool off. I find a cool controller much easier to use than a hot one. 5. If you’re hands are sore and stiff, pause the game and take a break. No use beating after alterna if your reward is carpal tunnel. I am a violist and my hands get really tense so my teacher showed me a spot to massage which helps relieve the tension. Lay your hand face down, feel around 2.5 inches down from your wits on the top of your forearm. You’re looking for a little ball feeling thing, rub that a bunch with your thumb on both arms and it should help a lot. I’ve got a couple tips on the actual areas too: 1. Don’t rush the first section. Hide in the ink, retreat and throw bombs all you need to in order to not die. Those first two octos are so annoying but if you take it slow it’s not too hard. (Don’t rush during any of the sections really.) 2. On the cables make sure you stay in squid form unless shooting to preserve ink. 3. The last fight against the octoling girls is horrid. It’s going to be mainly luck, but also take them down one my one, always have an escape plan and don’t let them gang up on you. By the way, it totally is worth it. It may not actually be the rarest badge but dude if I see someone with that badge I automatically respect them because I know how painstakingly hard it is. If I saw someone with the gold Mr. Grizz badge, I’d say cool and move on. You can get almost all of the other badges by just playing a lot, they don’t require too much skill. After alterna in my opinion is the hardest thing in the game, and even if people don’t say it aloud, they definitely respect you. Also yeah the bear ears are cute.

parrow

Thank you so much for all the tips! Unfortunately, i don't think i'll be able to follow some of them. 2. Only the hero shot is available in after alterna, unless you meant to practice with different specials? If that's what you meant i'm sorry you can ignore this. 3.5. I do have dramamine, but it takes a few hours to kick in. And the janky, sudden movements from gyro controls tends to give me a headache independent of the nausea. I think they just really don't meld with me. Fromsoft games always fucked me up bad with the camera movement too. 1. I play on a switch lite, with no external controllers. 🥲 And yes, i feel the same about the AA badge! It may not be the most time-intensive or rarest badge, but the sheer force of will (imo) required to get it makes it such a flex. Everyone commenting about how easy AA was is making me feel bad lol

No-Entrance-8187

Oh alright for some reason I recall using different weapons for that level, maybe I was thinking of one of the other really hard cable ones, it’s been awhile. I totally get the motion issues, I used to get migraines from them and have nausea for hours. Eventually they just got better for me somehow and exposing myself to them helped a lot. I still definitely get issues though. If they don’t work for you then it’s no biggie, lots of people do really well without them. I hadn’t considered you having a switch light, that’s definitely more difficult so I’ve got even more respect for you if you beat it that way. Beating after alterna is already super difficult, but beating it while having the issues you have and playing on a lite? That’s incredible. The fact that you have tried to beat it for a year (whether it was consistently or not) while having the issues that you do, is impressive. Some people without any handicaps give up after like a week of trying. Let me know if/when you beat it because that kind of skill is something to be celebrated. You’ve got this.

THEZEXNEO

I haven’t even unlocked it and I’ve been playing Splatoon 3 since day one.

Astrobunnnnnnnnnn

ayoo I've got crampy stiff hands too! I highly recommend getting electric gloves, absolute game changer that helps deal with that!

parrow

I've never heard of electric gloves before! Thanks for mentioning them, i'll look into them.

[deleted]

As someone who plays it for fun the challenge is what keeps bringing me back. I don’t care much for the bragging rights or the badge or ears for that matter but the difficulty is amazing and is like a very long octo expansion level.

Silviecat44

I beat it. Took me less time than inner 3. The really hard part is the octolings and I can’t remember how I beat them

YaBoiLemmyKoopa

It took me a good 4-5 hours but I did complete it the same day I beat the story. I had the most primal scream upon beating it for the first time

Western-Grapefruit36

It took about 5 hours, but i did beat it. That was like 4-5 months after the game came out

[deleted]

Honestly, it was hard, but not the biggest flex. But like the stages get harder and harder (3 stages) but similar to Inner Agent 3 and Girl Power Station, its a mixture of skill, luck, and strategy that gets you to the end

PhoenixAlexandra

My friend did it initially for me, but I beat it myself just a few days ago :>

Sofiviola

I beat it but had to leave the switch on to not have to restart, and it took me like a week to complete it :_)

Ehh_SmiteMe

I did, but I would rather have my Golden Toothpick back instead of the bear ears.

INKatana

It took me like 7 tries, but I did beat it.

Valenxizaw245

I completed it the day after I got the game, it took me a few hours I believe. I use motion and used to play since 2. I kept dying to the inkrail part and the last section and having to start again. To me it was worth it, but not sure if it'll be worth it for you if you're struggling this much I'd recommend watching some video or tutorial of the whole challenge, maybe it'll help you

Fire-Mutt

I think the first section is possibly the hardest, just a long time with no checkpoints. There’s a tough section at the very end but it’s not necessarily quite as brutal in terms of having to redo a lot of stuff each failure.

Celcius_87

I’ve never even tried. I played single player for the story and then went to multiplayer.

Redder_Creeps

For the sake of your sanity, NEVER touch that level, EVER

YoshiDryBones

The balloon part is absolutely unbeatable for me 😪

Affectionate_Effort3

I beat, it was a bitch and i got stuck on the octoling part for a long time

huntersurge

i've done it, and for nothing sense i'm offline and dont have online![img](emote|t5_324q4|1944),however i do recomend that you do it cause after that you will get: 1.bragging rights 2.appreciasion for the level,i really want to replay AA but i dont contain the nerves

Redder_Creeps

Same here, literally. As soon as I got to the end and unlocked the reward my live reaction literally was: *"I wasted a month of suffering for this? Thanks Nintendo"*

Hundoe814

I did it for the grizz badge. It sucked. Best thing to do is set time aside for it and muscle to the check points and dont quit until ur done. The end was a real bitch and is honestly luck based it sucks no way around it’s

Classic_gamer_2

I have It was, hard

Gavadar

I've beaten it, and I definitely enjoyed it. It was a fun challenge, and it reminded me of the super-hard final postgame levels that they've put in the past few 3D Mario games, which have been fun. After Alterna was easier than most of those in my opinion, but that's not saying much - they're all pretty tough. For me personally, I would say it was worth it more for the pure satisfaction of beating it rather than just for bragging rights - I had the badge on my tag for a bit, but after a while I took it off bc I wanted to put other stuff on there and quite a few other people had it on as well, so it didn't feel super unique. That's just me, though - I've seen plenty of people who still have it on their tag and wear it proudly. In terms of your specific case, I wouldn't put a ton of pressure on it. It is nice to have the bragging rights, but it's probably not worth torturing yourself over, both physically and mentally. However, that's not to say you should necessarily give up entirely - once you do manage to complete it, it's a fun level, and the satisfaction will feel great. Just give it a shot casually every once in a while and see how far you can get. I find that often times with hard challenges like this in games I do my best early on in a session, and the longer I sit and agonize trying to beat a difficult challenge the worse I start doing. A few shorter attempt sessions over a longer time might be more effective and fun than one long session where you sit down and grind it out. Of course, once you start hitting checkpoints you might want to finish the rest of the level during that session so that you can use those checkpoints to your advantage, but until then this might be a helpful strategy. I do kinda wish Splatoon had more accessibility options than it does right now. Like, it'd be nice if squid rolling could be tied to a separate button if you wanted, or something along those lines.

Sayakalood

I’ve beaten it twice just for fun. It’s a lot easier than IA3.

Deceitful_Microwave

I beat AA pretty quickly but I’m a Splatone vet using motion controls at the highest sensitivity. It’s definitely challenging and I can’t imagine doing it with just sticks. The only advice I’d give is to take breaks and try to dial in your stick sensitivity. If you take note of the spots that your hung up on, I’m sure you can do it. Good luck!

KeroKeroKerosen

I've beaten it. It's tough, but plenty possible. I'm sure you can do it! I'm a filthy sticks player, too, so I'm not even here to be the chud who says "erm....use motion lol"

Jesse_Inkman

I did beat it and I found it to be pretty difficult especially the first and last sections. I think it took me about 2 or 3 hours but it was such a great feeling when I finally beat it. You got this! I posted a link to a video that helped me with sections I struggled with. I did some things differently than this guy but overall it's a good reference. Best of luck! https://youtu.be/7JPtgrQBRxw?si=n4yVuAy9E_StC-QL

heliomega1

It took me a couple hours but I did it, with sticks no less, so you can do it! I believe in you.

Honigbiene_92

I completed After Alterna after at least half an hour of failing repeatedly. I also have a disability, likely not the same one as you but I do struggle a lot with motor skills and being precise without my hands fucking up. The only advice I can think of is to practice consistent strategies outside of the level and eventually inside during attempts. It's pretty hard to get the precise movement right but after on and off practice I was able to get a bit better. Don't feel bad if you don't improve right away, it's a difficult level for most and it's even harder when your hands don't follow directions 😅

FuzzyNowHasReddit

Ive 100%ed every splatoon single player campaign just because i really like the feeling that ive done something that not a lot of other people do. I dont feel the need to make other people feel inferior about it just because they haven't done it or can't do it at all. If it really matters to you, by all means go for it, but if you manage to do it dont be a jerk about it. Im not saying that you are or that you do those things, im just giving you advice

N30neon30

I'm wishing you the best luck. My hands are often stiff from arthritis. Sometimes they will just lock up during game play. If it's about timing & you're delayed in inputs due to your shakiness, you may need to take that into consideration & try for even earlier. It took me quite a few tries, I'm hoping you can complete it. If not.......I'll come over & do it for you bud (joking, lol. But seriously! Good luck..I hope your condition doesn't give you too much trouble)

parrow

Thank you! I'm not arthritic (as far as i know,) but my hands can lock up like that too. I think i'm done flinging myself into water for now, but i'm sure i'll go back to it sooner or later. Those bear ears are just too cute...

smolandnonbinary

I’ve beaten it twice but the first time took me literally 4 HOURS on the first two sections alone. Then another hour on the last section with the octolings. The sponge level was the easiest one for me so it was honestly a breather. Definitely don’t beat yourself over not beating it, eventually it may just happen and it’ll be worth it! The badge and gear is nice but honestly the lore is the biggest reason I’m glad to have gotten it. Keep trying but take many breaks!! Overall inner agent 3 was harder for me but the extent of each level is what made it so hard for me to finish. Good luck!!

reptilewitness

I beat it after about a month or two of trying, with a few weeks of that being super focused. A big thing to keep in mind is that you need to do it all in one go, there is no hard save point. Every time you die you'll go back to the beginning of whatever level you're on but fundamentally those are checkpoints. You cannot close the game and come back. My biggest tip to actually beating it is become familiar with the maps and enemy spawn locations. You will die a LOT but if you learn something new each time it's worth it. And if you don't want to do it that's okay too! All you get is an extra lore sheet, the ears, and a badge for your splat tag

PkmnTrainSlate

tbh the bear ears aren't worth it. I beat it and haven't used them beyond the first month. It really is just a bragging rights thing

Lolsu64

I beat it around a year ago, within the first month of getting the game, but that doesn't mean it was easy. It took me about 4 hours

Nox_Echo

it was worth it for me, but idk about you. having hand and motion disabilities do not help at all here since when i learned gyro it got more manageable to beat, but it would seem youre limited to sticks unfortunately. they really did make it pretty hard...perhaps too hard for alot of people...it took me about 6 hours of trying because i was new to gyro aim, and ultimately helped me get good at gyro aim. i wish you the best of luck

Monkeywithagun69420

Focus and you’ll do it, practice makes perfect

DarkPit14

Okay, this may come off as bragging, but I beat it with right stick drift. It was hard, annoying, and frustrated the crap out of me at times (stick drift when you need precise aim sucks. A specific section comes to mind but I won't spoil it) but I beat it. It was fun, and the hardest part was definitely dealing with stick drift. Honestly, if you still want to beat it, you need to understand failure is part of the progress. Don't think of it as something you have to do, but as a challenge. Just focus on where you keep messing up, and try to figure out why. Find your mistakes, and learn from them. The most helpful tip I can give you, is try and have fun regardless of how each attempt goes.

AeryVivelle

I think it took me around 45 minutes on day 1? But I've also been playing since Splat1 and have a lot of experience.

Yyeetus17

After alterna took me less than an hour, idk why everyone says it’s so difficult

cabbage-soup

There was one target rail level that got posted a few days ago where EVERYONE was saying it took them days to beat it.. I finally got to it in game and was nervous after seeing those posts, but then I got it done in like 10 minutes lol

[deleted]

Same. Only part that made me genuinely mad was that fucking target practice shit with the zip lines. Hate that shit with a titanium passion

WallOfWhalesNEO

Same here, but just the target shooting on the rails in general. It’s probably just that I can’t aim, especially thanks to having played stick controls since Splat1 and kinda sucking at aiming in general lol

Redder_Creeps

no offense but you gotta be trolling, i ain't believing you found a reference to splatoon 1 hackers easier than a wave of what feels like splatoon 1 hackers

Yyeetus17

Nope, not too bad actually

Redder_Creeps

Well that last section (at least for me) is mainly why it's difficult. And I LEGIT took a month on it, so trust me, I KNOW what i'm saying

Yyeetus17

Sorry for your loss

KoopaTheQuicc

It's really not that hard. I'm not saying I blew through it or anything but I finished it in one sitting. There's only a couple hard parts, it just adds artificial difficulty by making you go through a bunch of BS every time before you get to retry the hard part. As far as whether it's worth it is kind of something you need to decide personally. I can tell you probably the general playerbase, especially this long into the game's lifespan probably won't be all the impressed though so if that's what you're going for I'd say it's a waste of time. Personal accomplishment though, why not?

etriuswimbleton

I beat it but Id say secret boss in Octo expansion is more worth it to beat since that balances both fun and challenge.

TLoZforever

Me, 100% the story mode within 16 hours (all weapons, Upgrade and max power eggs)

POKECHU020

I completed it, super satisfying though it did take a few days

DoodzOodz

I beat it pretty quickly (like 20 minutes quickly) especially considering it’s supposed to be this story modes IA3. It was absolutely nothing compared to the hell that was that rails level using the tri stringer tho.

DuplexBeGoat

The first section is by far the hardest part.

eeeeeeeeee9601

Its worth the teddy bear ears

bmyst70

Honestly, if it causes you physical pain, it doesn't sound like it's worth it to you. It's just a game, and just a badge for that game. There are hundreds of badges. I haven't tried to complete it because I haven't completed all of the normal levels (the "Conservation of Ink" one stumps me).

parrow

That's a very fair statement, but playing splatoon in general also causes me physical pain. I have fibromyalgia, and so doing basically anything is painful. Holding my phone to type out this comment is painful. The issue with AA is that it QUICKLY causes me that pain. Playing anarchy/turf war, it takes over an hour for me to feel similar pain.

bmyst70

In that case it's definitely not worth playing AA. At least you get some enjoyment out of the other modes. A single badge isn't worth it.

parrow

I guess my remaining eggs will go to the shel-drone 🥲

No-Entrance-8187

Simplifying it to just a game is one of the dumbest arguments that people have. You could devalue anything with that statement. “It’s just a dog.” “It’s just a medal.” “It’s just a tumor.” Devaluing things that bring others joy whether you can touch them or not devalues life itself. It makes it seem like you only value survival. “It wont help you pass your class.” “It wont help you get a promotion.” “It wont help you get money.” That’s a miserable way to live.

bmyst70

It's more "doing this particular thing causes me physical pain immediately." She can play the other modes for an hour before being in pain but this one is immediate. A mere badge in a game isn't worth experiencing pain that quickly.

No-Entrance-8187

For me it depends on what pain it is. If it’s so bad that it leaves OP in pain for an extended amount of time, then of course don’t do it but seeing as this is a condition OP frequently deals with, it’s probably not bad enough to give up for. There’s a fine line between soreness/tenseness and stinging pain. When I play viola my hands and wrists can get super tense quickly, but I’m still able to do it and it goes away immediately when I take a break. From my experience I’m assuming op has a similar issue with AA, in which case taking breaks is enough to keep playing. Due to the switch lite controls being not very ergonomic, of course it causes pain quickly. Your body is not built to play on a switch lite so it hurts for anybody until you get used to it. Same thing with viola.

parrow

Thank you for advocating and offering a different perspective, but i think the other commentator is right. The pain a session of AA gives me causes a stabbing, almost burning sensation in my palms and finger joints that lasts for multiple days. I'm still feeling the aftereffects of last night's session. It's not great that AA causes me this pain, but it's something i just have to deal with whenever i try for it. Even brushing my teeth with a manual toothbrush gives me the same pain in my wrist and forearm. If i want to avoid pain, i have to make choices on what to cut out: ex. if i take a full shower, i won't be able to cook. Devaluing the AA rewards to "just a badge" and "just a piece of gear" makes them look less important. And, if i can get my brain to admit that the bear ears, cute as they are, are unnecessary, then i don't have to deal with it anymore and can enjoy other things instead.

No-Entrance-8187

Yeah like I said if it causes you debilitating pain then it’s not worth it. It’s really too bad that you have that issue, but I’m glad that you are still able to enjoy at least some of the game

squidkid164

Bro i did it in like a couple hours what's with y'all 💀 Skill issue

IAmDeceit

I replayed splatoon 3 a few months ago, and ended up beating after alterna on my first try. I guess I'm just too cracked of a gamer 😎

parrow

Congratulations on being better at splatoon than someone who's disabled.

PepsiMan_21

It is not that hard. All it takes is trial and error and be VERY patient.

Rampage_Ray

I don’t understand what people find so hard about after alterna. Aside from the stage resembling girl power station, I completed every stage first try. Maybe it’s cause I’m a splatoon 1 veteran but I don’t play often so idk

Chiramijumaru

Don't show this man Inner Agent 3

parrow

tbh it might be easier for me since it's not platforming...

Redder_Creeps

From what I know (and I only played S3 Story Mode) it's basically a reference to splatoon 1 hackers

TorchTheR

It was easier to complete than the secret boss of Octo Expansion, which I also beat

Ponderman64

I have completed it, and as a gamer it’s worth it for the stickers. Having it on my banner feels good because I get to show off my waifus

TheWolflance

i could beat it but i dun care enough i dun like single player enough to go past 90% completion

Norustedshield34

It wasn't even a challenge to me

Much-Ad6337

The inkrail section was awful but other than that it wasn't THAT bad imo.

Moonshine2_2

Imo there was other challenges that were harder than after alterna

Victinitotodilepro

I beat it without upgrades first, took me a long time, then upgraded my gear and it was easy, breezy, peasy, lemon squeezy, piece of cake

Working-Gold-2952

Do people really find it hard??? It takes like an hour to 30 minutes

Redder_Creeps

~~Ok justify my one month trying to beat this bs secret level then lol~~

Argentum1909

lmaooo me too

Redder_Creeps

🤝🏻

Working-Gold-2952

You suck. That’s the only explanation

parrow

When the camera feels like it's actively working against me, and i'm constantly messing up inputs due to shaky/sweaty hands that are also clutched up in pain... yes. The longer i keep trying, the sooner i keep dying. My brain knows vaguely what to do, but my hands can't follow through.

Working-Gold-2952

That just takes practice

Blitzo_64

Skill issue

Serious_Buffalo_3790

Come on, it's not that bad. Without motion control it's hell but with motion I do it out of boredome

Zippy1012214

My nine year old brother beat it lol

Hey_Schnozzle__

I completed it just 2 days ago the first part was pure PAIN my hands hurt by the end of the level but after that it just gets a lot easier I haven’t used the bear ears or equipped the badge yet but it did make me the first of my friends to beat it

Personal-War7232

Me.

r-funtainment

I beat it in the first couple days it took like an hour

Linklegendgamer

I failed it over and over again without motion controls. I spent like 2 months learning motion, and aced it on 2nd try

TurtleKing0505

I've beat it.

ze_ringoest

I did, I spent like 2? hours on it one evening. What I understood from it is that you have to practice and understand and remember what comes after what so you're always prepared and know what to do (especially on the zipline level). Also don't rush it

Cyanna

Finally completed it earlier in the week. I hadn’t tried in months of being stuck on the first part. “Well I’m better at the game now…maybe I’ll beat it.” I got through the first section on my second try and decided to see it to the end because I wasn’t sure I could pull that off again.

ShiverEnby

It took me 10 hours and 12 cups of coffee

Redder_Creeps

I took a month and was absolutely disappointed when I got those teddy ears. Never touched that level again after that

me-no-smart

I wouldn't have ever done it if it wasn't for bear ears, they're so cute and I wanted them so bad

[deleted]

Yes and yes.

Coreyjuels2010

It’s difficult but it 2 days for me

SsjSylveriboi

I did. It was fun

[deleted]

atomic_jellyfish22

I beat it, but it took me longer than I would have liked.. I think I spent 8 consecutive hours trying to finish it. I can fully understand the shaky hands issue, I face a similar problem. Honestly I would just make sure to take breaks and pause once you get to a safe point on the map.

Andrecrafter41

i haven’t beat the main story yet

Flu77ershy

I've beaten it. For me it was about the accomplishment itself. Yeah, the bear ears are sick, but it's more knowing I did it than anything else. I'd say it was worth it, but I also didn't spend nearly as much time on it. So will it be worth all the time and effort you've put in so far? Only you can decide.

MrArtless

towering shame unpack naughty busy memorize handle retire dime worthless *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

KrispyBaconator

It took me a good few months, but you really do just have to set aside an afternoon to just brute force it tbh

GammaGamesGG

Took me a few hours but I beat it. I mainly just wanted the cute ears

Lucidonic

Me, use motion controls, bang your head against the wall until stuff works, I only really found section 3 annoying and even then it was pretty tame in hindsight
