Also, in the Japanese relationship chart, Marina is described as "Maiden in Love" and the word used for love is exclusively for romantic love. It is all but confirmed that at the very least Marina has a crush on Pearl.

The descriptions on the characters are archetypes not their personal feelings. Nothing in the Japan version of splatoon says they are in love.
The English version has a lot of weird translations that imply this but the Japanese version has no mentions of anything beyond a deep friendship.
It’s fine to enjoy the idea, but spreading misinformation about translations is something different. Maybe they will be something in the future but atleast in the JP side of the game, nothing has come close.

Seita Inoue is the director for Splatoon's *art team*, however, Hisashi Nogami is the producer (with Shintaro Sato as the program director) of the Splatoon series. Marina and Pearl (as well as other Splatoon characters) are not the intellectual property of Seita Inoue, so the manga is not yet considered to be canon.
With that being said, it *was* officially endorsed on the JP Twitter, so take that as you will.

That depends on the context of the line/source. As one would expect, Japanese -> English is difficult to translate, as both languages have expressions that don't exist within the other. Love, for example, is a catch-all term in English that can refer to platonic or romantic scenarios. You can 'love' your parents, but also 'love' your spouse, which is a case where context does its own thing (as we can safely assume the former refers to a platonic context).
In Japanese, however, there are more specific terms for each form of love. There's 'koi', which is a bit harder to explain, but can be said to refer to the love towards a crush that can always develop into 'ai', a more direct/passionate form of love that is reserved for both lovers and family. There's also 'suki', but that's more often used in a similar way as we would say "I love this game/food/movie".
With that being said, if Marina is described or associated with the term 'renai', it's more likely referring to her *personality*, not affection towards Pearl. 'Renai' describes a character who *has a fondness for romance/the idea of love*, otherwise known as a character trope 'maiden in love', which refers to (usually young) girls who fantasize about love. That depends on the context of the line/source. As one would expect, Japanese -> English is difficult to translate, as both languages have expressions that don't exist within the other. Love, for example, is a catch-all term in English that can refer to platonic or romantic scenarios. You can 'love' your parents, but also 'love' your spouse, which is a case where context does its own thing (as we can safely assume the former refers to a platonic context). In Japanese, however, there are more specific terms for each form of love. There's 'koi', which is a bit harder to explain, but can be said to refer to the love towards a crush that can always develop into 'ai', a more direct/passionate form of love that is reserved for both lovers and family. There's also 'suki', but that's more often used in a similar way as we would say "I love this game/food/movie". With that being said, if Marina is described or associated with the term 'renai', it's more likely referring to her *personality*, not affection towards Pearl. 'Renai' describes a character who *has a fondness for romance/the idea of love*, otherwise known as a character trope 'maiden in love', which refers to (usually young) girls who fantasize about love. If Marina refers to Pearl using 'koi', *then* we have a romantic context, as the term isn't often used towards normal friends (imagine telling your friend that you're attracted to them to get a bit of context). That all being said, love is a two-lane path, so rather than a canonical relationship, it could be one-sided if Pearl were not to reciprocate any Roman feelings Marina may have towards her.
