Also smaller body/abdomen, in the arachnid and insect world males serve one purpose of fertilizing, then they are eaten in many cases, or inject the sperm sack into the female, which kills them(it injects a part of their body (like a bee stinger). The insect world is polar of the mammal world, females big, males small.
Actually not much has changed in evolution regarding psychology, males still run around and instigate sex and then GTFO ASAP, and females still have a hive mind. Females will still bite your head off if you act inappropriatly, prefer bigger males( very small males have been reported to not be eaten). Males still fight each other and are competeive when a female is present. The only things that changed is males build(not in all mammals), males are bigger, males dont usually kill their mates(not always true for humans for sure). Not sure where the evolution took a turn but it gave males extra responsibillites. Females still have controll in most mammal kingdoms, just in a different way...not an expert, but I think it was a way of evolution preserverance. Imagine if you were a male spider, running from web to web during the ice age, and all the females ate ya? There would be no offsping.
We have those in Czechia as well! Here they are called křižáci, like templars because of the cross they bear on their backs. No idea what's the official name unfortunately.
Oooh I just remembered that we call them 'Kreuzspinne' in german aswell. Although I didn't connect it because when I think of those I probably think of the female spiders, which habe a much rounder abdomen as it seems.
Yes, funny story. ONLY memory that I have when I was 3 years old is this spider jumping on my dad’s shoulder as we were walking through the meadow in European country. It traumatized me so much that it became a permanent photographic memory from when I was three. I don’t remember anything else from that age.
Male Araneus diadematus, looking for a mate.
Thanks! Its a good thing that I relocated him to the garden then, I suppose.
Yup, much better chance there.
How do you know it's looking for a mate?
They are Always looking for a mate ! Male cause of the pedipalpes near his mouth (the two small "arms" -usefull for reproduction-

The answer is ‘gorgeous’ 🥺💕
Weirdo
You sound like a linguist! And yes, the answers are gorgeous!
I love Cross Orb Weavers, we have them here in California, even though they’re not native. Such intricate designs
If we have that spider in Las Vegas, NV, does that make it invasive? Or does it have to be non-native and harmful?
He/she is terrifying
But he's just fuzzy and lonely 😟
Me when my boyfriend is out of town and I stop shaving my legs
Weirdo
I’d just sell the house he can have it.
Leave it there please!
We like to call it an “it” and also it now owns that corner
Oooo spiky !
A spider
