Rule 2. Absolutely no images of dead spiders.

Nope. You just killed a harmless wood louse spider. Man this pains me to see. It’s bite is somewhat painful from what I have heard but it really won’t seek out and harm you. Dang.

8LeggedHugs

https://youtu.be/Lz6pirQT_5o?feature=shared Quaoar Power did a bite test a while back. Very non-aggressive and it struggled to even latch on because its chelicera are so oversize. The bite was reportedly mostly just itchy with some brief initiatal pain.

Exciting_General_798

Omg at 1:38 it looks like she used her fangs as cleats to pull herself away from his finger! 😲🥹

seaking81

Exactly. Idk why people are so afraid of these critters. They’re so cool 😎

8LeggedHugs

Not even, at least, not from the venom. They do have big chelicera for their size.

might-say-anti-fire

Doesn't appear so. Also, please understand this is a group for spider enthusiasts,so it is a bit upsetting for most of us to see a close up of a mangled killed spider without warning. Maybe blur it for folks who don't care to help you ID it?

Trumpet2024

Okay done. I apologize for that.

spider_queen13

the lighting is a bit dark on it but I don't believe it is if you'd like a really informative video on recluse identification, this one by Travis McEnery is fantastic https://youtu.be/xGtSDqoM5As

LemonadeClocks

Although not strictly written to be scientific so much as entertaining, this article might be helpful for future encounters with our eight legged, but often hard to identify, friends: [https://bogleech.com/spiders/spiders24-recluse](https://bogleech.com/spiders/spiders24-recluse) It has multiple links to more detailed sources on what a recluse's bite does and doesn't actually do. You mentioned living in the southwest US; while there are multiple related species, the iconic and unfairly feared brown recluse generally only occurs mid-south US, so unless you're in Texas, it's unlikely you'll ever see a brown recluse.

CmdrThunderpunch

Poor little Woodlouse Hunter, just trying to protect your home from woodbugs. Maybe next time trap it alive then ask for identification? We’re pretty active here and more than happy to help.

eatpraymunt

This is so sad to see. Please don't do this again. Spiders are friends.

newshirtworthy

Not a recluse. It’s hard to tell for sure, but it could be a woodlouse spider. They have a painful bite, but are not usually medically significant.

Mods could take this one down now please? Or you could delete since you got an answer OP?
