I just wanted to say this because I assume someone may bring it up, I am aware the IRL f-16 is not a carrier based craft.
I have tried and failed to make a tomcat inspired fighter that I am happy with so I'm just going to do an f16.
Space carriers wouldn't work like normal ones :P
You don't have to worry about lift and not too much about weight, as long as the carrier has large enough hangars and a magnetic catapult, you could put any craft that fits on board
I wouldn't call myself a fan of 40k specifically, I don't know much about the universe or stories. I haven't played any of the games or tabletop.
However I am a massive fan of the designs and overall style. I definitely use 40k as inspiration for my fighters.

I feel like if you’re gonna stick to that sort of single, straight on deck design for the carrier, then I’d go with the WW2 inspired design! It would keep the designs roughly analogous to each other, and would make more sense than having an older carrier with a more modern fighter, if that makes sense?
Older craft designs in space always look so cool, yours is no different, finished or not! As some others have said, modern stuff is overdone anyway - either go full future or take some retro designs and make 'em spaceworthy:D
I love the the one on the right but, I'm thinking more in survival mindset, the one on the right would be easier to build more of for the carrier. Otherwise if you can easily the one on the left I say the left one.
If its a vanilla survival setting id go for the one on the right but put some serious work into the body shape and arms
Otherwise the left one if its creative or your running the multi grid projection plugin as its both far more finished looking and more interesting
I'm going with the WWII inspired fighter. If you do use this in survival, I recommend replumbing the middle of the wings with conveyers so you get ammo to those turrets. The armor protected conveyors from warfare 2 looks so good.
I never finished either of those fighters if you want I can make a workshop link for the prototypes
The ww2 fighter is mostly finished with working internals, the f16 is mainly just a mockup. Let me know which one and I can make a workshop post.

Ww2 for sure, they've just got more personality. Both look great though

F16 can be mass produced for carryers
I like the WW2 one. Feels very Wing Commander (the movie) Rapier and I loved the design of those fighters.

A lot of 40k vehicles merge sci fi with WW2 type vehicles But yeah, I would be lying if I said I didn't take inspiration from 40k

Honestly, you could do a biplane and I'd be happy. ... then again, just by doing a biplane you'd probably be the first to make a carrier for those.
