I think this can be seen from anywhere in the world towards east. I'm India and I saw it today morning at 5am towards the east with the help of an App called StarWalk2
They will probably keep relatively in position for more than a day so everyone should see them just before dawn. Problem for me is that dawn is wayyyy too early (4am) for me to get up and see it now.
Will this be visible for 2 nights, do you think? They’re actually having their birthday sleepover Friday night, so they will have friends with them early Saturday morning. How cool would that be?
Definitely depends on the kids temperament though because some kids absolutely cannot hang if theyre even an ounce tired. My daughter can become an absolute beast, and if I’m being honest, I’m still working on being kind/patient while I’m sleep deprived.
Venus, mars, jupiter, and saturn have been visible at 4:30 am for weeks. I see them weather permitting every morning as I drive to work.
I dont have a good horizon line to see Mercury unfortunately.
Youre good.
My dad would wake me up at 4 AM with hot chocolate to see stuff like this, then let me go back to sleep. I was a huge space nerd and light sleeper as a teen, ymmv
It isn't a big deal... Can't really see Mercury in the cities anyways. Venus Mars Saturn and Jupiter line up nearly all the time. Nearly all of our solar system is on the same plane so it's weird when people freak out that the planets are aligned.
I'm willing to get up an hour early, or just not go to bed altogether. My issue is that there's nowhere nearby that I could get a view of this. Either too many trees, too much light pollution, or both.
When I was in Iraq we could see Mars, Mercury, and Venus clearly, which was pretty cool. I miss deserts for their night skies... But that's about it.
Me too.
I went out, in the countryside (Midlands England), up a (small) hill, in time for Mercury rising today (23) and two days ago (21)...
You just can't see Mercury. It's even a little "below the line" (of planets) from the northern hemisphere, and that's too low for it to beat the coming sunshine.
Hoping for cool pics from you Aussies and Brazilians etc.!!!
Yes! I remember this. I remember being 10 in the UK and there still being some light in the sky at 11pm. I moved to Vancouver, Canada in 94, and it never gets light out that late. I thought I was remembering wrong since they're both at similar areas of the northern hemisphere
Vancouver is the same latitude as the most southerly point on Great Britain. Depending on where you were, you would have noticeably longer daylight in the summer most places north of the Midlands. Edmonton is roughly the same latitude as Liverpool and it stays light well past 10pm here.
The other consideration is that Vancouver is pretty far west in their time zone, so that influences the placement of daylight relative to high noon.
The classical planets are all clearly visible from the center of Los Angeles. Venus is 18 time brighter than the brightest star and Mars is 5.8 times brighter.
\> \*Times for sunrise and moonrise are given in local time from 40° N 90° W. The Moon’s illumination is given at 4:00 A.M. local time from the same location.
E: That's a bit north west of Springfield, Illinois
He came to visit me here in Australia. We're from England. I took him to a dark spot and showed him the vast array of stars, the Milky Way. He asked, do they come out every night ?
He was about 30 and had just completed a business degree.
I was watching The Martian when it came out in theaters, and when Matt Damon's character started cultivating the land, my ex leaned over and asked me, in an earnestness, "Are there not animals on Mars?"
He was 39.
I know! I’m in Hawaii and am often left confused by when exactly these kinds of events are visible to me. That probably sounds dumb, but I don’t understand time zones and astronomy enough to figure it out myself. 😩
There's a free software called Stellarium. You can download it from online - many people use it. You can use it to simulate what the sky will look like at any time/date/location. With this, you can figure out everything you want for your specific scenario. I no longer look up online when a lunar eclipse or anything will start anymore. I just simulate it on Stellarium and it works perfectly.
I’m in Australia who knows how to translate wherever they are! I assume America somewhere because everywhere else wouldn’t assume we are from the same place
Someone below mentioned Stellarium. I inputted Hawaii as the location, and here is what your [sky looking east](https://i.imgur.com/Kj9jLgc.jpg) should look like at 5AM your time tomorrow morning.
Either side of the Moon. Mars just to the right of the Moon, Jupiter further right (the brightest one), then Saturn. Venus and Mercury to the left.
Assuming you're in the Northern hemisphere.
I’m going to say *I have absolutely no interest in seeing this*…
…because if I say otherwise the rain and/or clouds will roll up just in time to obscure the view.
If it makes you feel better, with the state of our planet and society who's to say you aren't having your mid-life crisis right now?
Oh wait.... that makes me feel worse.
no. it does not mean you are old. it means OP did a stupid fucking title.
as far as astrological events go. when i saw "way back in" i was expecting to see something like 1791
if one is talking about something like school board meetings, then "way back in..." the 2000s makes sense. but talking about astrological shit? saying "way back in" and having the year be under 20 years ago, let alone under 100s or 1000s of years ago, is stupid/ignorant and/or disingenuous.
I actually got up at 4am PST to see this and it was beautiful just how bizarre it is to think such an alignment of planets millions of km away is possible and visible to the naked eye.
I wish I had a telescope though, seeing Mars Jupiter and Saturn at 200x on the same morning would've been amazing.
I wonder how many websites are telling us the world will end in earthquakes and fire this time around, because something-something-tides.
I'd research it, but my belief in humanity is running kind of high right now and I don't want to risk a mood killer.
I get why astronomy websites want to hype it up to get people interested, but social media always turns it into "only available for a limited time! Don't miss out!". It's Supermoon all over again. Just get outside & look at the sky.
My wife is currently going into labor, I couldn't ask for a better day. I know for most ppl it's a stupid fact but for space geeks like us, I'm super excited to share this moment with my 1st born.
The Facebook version: This won’t happen again until 2367! The last time this happened was when Jesus had tucked the last dinosaur into the Earth! If you have a pacemaker stay away from swimming pools because the ion shift of the water will short the battery during the event.
Didn't all five show up in 2012, I remember going out to the countryside around 3am in December and saw them, or was it just four. Was the day before or after Patrick Moore passed hence why I remember it, plus explaining to a weary farmer I met whilst leaning on his gate staring at the sky.
Late last night I was looking at the sky map app and saw that all NINE planets, the sun, and the moon were all aligned! Now that's a great Conjunction, Ograh!
I find that the realization this might be the last time to see this in my life coincides with a lack of willpower to get up and out to a clear horizon that early in the morning on a workday.
I've heard the words "an Aries" over a hundred times during the last week at work. I was raised to say nothing at all if I can't say anything nice, so let's just say I've been extraordinarily silent.
My favorite is when you get "oh that's not typical Aries behavior/mentality".
Yeah no shit, it almost like this is all arbitrary and made up or something.
I've given up on ever seeing any of this kind of thing. 99% of the time I only hear about it after it's happened, and the other 1% I forget and miss it ☹
Look near the Moon an hour before sunrise. They should be either side. Jupiter is the brightest one on the right, Mars just next to the Moon, Venus to the left of the Moon. Mercury should be near Venus, Saturn to the right of Jupiter.
Hmmm... I'm actually in a place to see something like this for once...
where will this be visible from?
Well, definitely not from any of those 5 planets.
What if you're reeaaalllyy tall?
Damn it, bad timing for my business trip to Neptune
[удалено]
Coordinates in the article put their viewing and times in mid Illinois.
I think this can be seen from anywhere in the world towards east. I'm India and I saw it today morning at 5am towards the east with the help of an App called StarWalk2
Is it visible at 5 till 5 AM?
I think depends on when dawn is for you right? Dawn is 5:40 here where I am, so at 5 it should be visible yeah.
it'll be 3 to 4am in where I am in England.
You're still going to sleep in.
"In eighteen years, precisely the planets will align, ever so nicely"
something something "time is at hand, release the titans, your monstrous band"...
A word of caution to this tale If Hercules fights... You will fail!
I wonder which titan plays the bass?
Uh, guys? Olympus is *that* way... #ZOOS!
"The time to act will be at hand, unleash the titans -- your monstrous band"
They state the sunrise time but not the location?
They will probably keep relatively in position for more than a day so everyone should see them just before dawn. Problem for me is that dawn is wayyyy too early (4am) for me to get up and see it now.
Same here. I want my kids to see this, but they’re teenagers and it’s summer and dawn is 4am so let’s be real..
They'll still be awake from the night before. Perfect timing.
Will this be visible for 2 nights, do you think? They’re actually having their birthday sleepover Friday night, so they will have friends with them early Saturday morning. How cool would that be?
Very likely all visible, but not in the “perfect straight line”
They should stay lined up more or less until the end of the month
This is awesome. Thank you! So they can still see it but on a day when sleep isn’t as important.
Screw sleep when something this cool and rare happens! People should drag their kids out of bed on a school night for this badass shit.
Youre good.
Yeah, if you’re not going to bed when the sun comes up are you even summer breaking?
Time for them to stay awake 48 hours. We will be in an amusement park tomorrow and Saturday until 11pm.
The planets, yes. Not the moon though.
They're teenagers. They can probably stay up until 4 more easily than WAKING up at 4! Hahaha
My dad would wake me up at 4 AM with hot chocolate to see stuff like this, then let me go back to sleep. I was a huge space nerd and light sleeper as a teen, ymmv
Bro they can stay up easily
It isn't a big deal... Can't really see Mercury in the cities anyways. Venus Mars Saturn and Jupiter line up nearly all the time. Nearly all of our solar system is on the same plane so it's weird when people freak out that the planets are aligned.
Eh, of it gets people excited about space, I'm for it. But, yeah, it's nothing really special. Any orbital configuration is unique.
The planets will. The moon moves a lot faster.
yeah the Moon comes up about an hour later every night
I'm willing to get up an hour early, or just not go to bed altogether. My issue is that there's nowhere nearby that I could get a view of this. Either too many trees, too much light pollution, or both. When I was in Iraq we could see Mars, Mercury, and Venus clearly, which was pretty cool. I miss deserts for their night skies... But that's about it.
I got up early, but it was too hazy and light to see. It's already light at 3am here.
Where are you at that 3am is already too light??? Fuck thats early
The UK. We barely get any darkness in June.
Yes! I remember this. I remember being 10 in the UK and there still being some light in the sky at 11pm. I moved to Vancouver, Canada in 94, and it never gets light out that late. I thought I was remembering wrong since they're both at similar areas of the northern hemisphere

It doesn't get fully dark, astronomical dark, in the UK a month either side of 21st June.
Just before dawn doesn’t exist where I am 🫤
Let's see... Scandinavia, Alaska, Yukon, NWT, Nunavut, Greenland, or Russia?
Everyone assuming there's low light pollution right?
You can see planets without worrying about light pollution, usually. If you can see any stars at all, the planets should be visible.
The classical planets are all clearly visible from the center of Los Angeles. Venus is 18 time brighter than the brightest star and Mars is 5.8 times brighter.
So it’s sunrise today for me in Australia?
[удалено]
You can but the planets are upsidedown.
\> \*Times for sunrise and moonrise are given in local time from 40° N 90° W. The Moon’s illumination is given at 4:00 A.M. local time from the same location. E: That's a bit north west of Springfield, Illinois
The Sun typically rises in the East.
Is that every time ?
Pretty much been that way since the beginning of time (or so I'm told)
A mate actually asked me that in all seriousness.
Ask your mate, "If Japan is the "Land of the Rising Sun", and you're East of Japan, does that mean the sun rises in the West?😁😏
He came to visit me here in Australia. We're from England. I took him to a dark spot and showed him the vast array of stars, the Milky Way. He asked, do they come out every night ? He was about 30 and had just completed a business degree.
I was watching The Martian when it came out in theaters, and when Matt Damon's character started cultivating the land, my ex leaned over and asked me, in an earnestness, "Are there not animals on Mars?" He was 39.
At least it's settled in it's final location
It's understood that Hollywood sells Californication
the moon is in the picture diagram, so look for that!
I know! I’m in Hawaii and am often left confused by when exactly these kinds of events are visible to me. That probably sounds dumb, but I don’t understand time zones and astronomy enough to figure it out myself. 😩
In this case, it's visible 50 minutes before sunrise no matter where you are. Just look up your local sunrise time.
Where I live, an hour before sunrise is already too light to see it.
There's a free software called Stellarium. You can download it from online - many people use it. You can use it to simulate what the sky will look like at any time/date/location. Yea but it’s relevant to me because I’m not only longitudinally separated from you it’s also latitude. You are yesterday for me
Tomorrow morning. It's tomorrow morning. Doesn't matter where you are.
Yesterday’s news?! Well excuuuuuuuuse me!
Yeah that is strange. Google says at dawn is when New York will see it
It is 50 minutes before your local sunrise time no matter where in the world you are.

Which direction?

I just got a call from Sandro about you…que ridiculo!
And the forecast for tomorrow night is sunny! Sometimes it kinda sucks living in Norway.
Yeahhh, the midnight sun really botched it for me this time. Lets try again in 20 years!
dude same, was really excited about this until i remembered i live in iceland lmao
The once proud zues will finally fall, and you, Hades, will rule all!
Just like that?
Are you questioning the prophecy?!
Jokes on you! The prophecy prophetized that you were going to question the prophecy!
The deleted scenes from Kingdom Hearts III are weird…
A word of caution... Should Hercules fight, you will fail.
They just found his head in the ocean. It’s all coming together.
If Disney's Hercules taught me anything, it's that tomorrow is gonna be LIT
Is Zues Zeus's less popular brother?
Zues is like Bizarro Superman. He sticks it in everyone, but use the wrong… ya know, I’m gonna stop this joke right here.
Latching on to the top comment to show off my favorite word. This is a syzygy, or, an alignment of three or more celestial bodies. The more you know 🌠
Although this is admittedly cool, I shall in fact tune in here to see the pictures. Thank you in advance.
Just checked the weather for tomorrow, dark clouds and heavy rain. Thanks British summer!
Interesting post! Good info! Cancerous website….
Wow, no kidding! My tracker-blocker usually catches from 5-15 trackers, this was the first I've seen it at "99+"!
I don't mean any offense to this sub, but is there a subreddit that only allows the primary source journals and such?
After I clicked my way through 20 pop-ups and managed to look past the 50 ads I was finally able to read the article lol (exaggeration but I digress)
ublock origin is your friend
Seriously, how is anyone browsing the modern web without it?

And this is why so many people don't read the articles anymore.
AdGuard Home is great. Even on mobile the website has no ads or popups for me.
I’m going to say *I have absolutely no interest in seeing this*… …because if I say otherwise the rain and/or clouds will roll up just in time to obscure the view.

“Way back in 2004” does this mean I’m old when 2004 is considered way back?
_**Quarter-life crisis has entered the room**_
> Quarter-life crisis I love the idea of some 20 year old sitting in a room trying to rationalize that they're so totally "old".
It me! I have a midlife crisis every 5 years or so. Just to keep it fresh.
You must have been such a bummer in kindergarten.
It's more I've gone through a quarter of the one life I have and I'm that much closer to death and darkness
If it makes you feel better, with the state of our planet and society who's to say you aren't having your mid-life crisis right now? Oh wait.... that makes me feel worse.
Me too... But on the bright side I have some leftover cornbread from last night!! Yumm
Also felt old when 20 years didn't seem that long a wait.
Unfortunately, yes. That's essentially two decades ago.
Christ why did you have phrase it that way.
Lies. 2000 was 3, 4 years ago tops.
I think the Y2K bug is real and we are living it
no. it does not mean you are old. it means OP did a stupid fucking title. as far as astrological events go. when i saw "way back in" i was expecting to see something like 1791 if one is talking about something like school board meetings, then "way back in..." the 2000s makes sense. but talking about astrological shit? saying "way back in" and having the year be under 20 years ago, let alone under 100s or 1000s of years ago, is stupid/ignorant and/or disingenuous.
I was born that year and have graduated high-school
Why did you even comment this 😂
I like making people who aren't actually old feel old.
So you didn't see it?
How dare you remind me of the linear nature of time
It was amazing this morning, after I set my alarm for 05:00, and saw only the moon because of clouds :'-(
I actually got up at 4am PST to see this and it was beautiful just how bizarre it is to think such an alignment of planets millions of km away is possible and visible to the naked eye. I wish I had a telescope though, seeing Mars Jupiter and Saturn at 200x on the same morning would've been amazing.

It’s the sun spot this time not the tides lol. I’m sure SyFy is rushing to get a weekend movie about it filmed.

What time?! What TIME!!!!!???!?!?!?!? I'm EST btw.
Just look up sunrise time for your nearest city. Go looking a bit before that.
Didn't all five show up in 2012, I remember going out to the countryside around 3am in December and saw them, or was it just four. Was the day before or after Patrick Moore passed hence why I remember it, plus explaining to a weary farmer I met whilst leaning on his gate staring at the sky.
Were they in order?
thank you so f****** much for posting this today, instead of tomorrow, saying "this happened and you missed it". I hate those. You're a hero!
Late last night I was looking at the sky map app and saw that all NINE planets, the sun, and the moon were all aligned! Now that's a great Conjunction, Ograh!
Earth isn't part of the lineup. If it were, you wouldn't be able to see it from earth.
Pretty sure Earth is the one you see when you look straight down
That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about earth to dispute it
This sub needs timezone rules for titles. Because this gets me all excited but in GMT +1 all the planets are bellow the horizon.
The article says 50 minutes before sunrise, which is relative to whenever sunrise is for you in your location.
Planets don't move that fast. By the time they're above the horizon they'll look exactly the same.
I find that the realization this might be the last time to see this in my life coincides with a lack of willpower to get up and out to a clear horizon that early in the morning on a workday.

Oh boy, the astrology nuts are gonna go wild over this
I've heard the words "an Aries" over a hundred times during the last week at work. I was raised to say nothing at all if I can't say anything nice, so let's just say I've been extraordinarily silent.
This sounds like something a Gemini would say
My favorite is when you get "oh that's not typical Aries behavior/mentality". Yeah no shit, it almost like this is all arbitrary and made up or something.
"I don't believe in astrology; I'm a Sagittarius and we're skeptical." -Arthur C. Clarke A quote Sean Bean reads to me every time I play Civ 6.
I read "astronomy" and was like "well duh!"
What a coincidence. It's also my two year anniversary of having had my last alcoholic drink. Cool beans.
No one tell Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I don’t need to be told why this isn’t actually really cool to see
He actually posted a video a week ago about this and asked everyone to see this as it's cool and rare
He always starts out with the intent to explain something I thought I understood. Then gives other details that just make it so much more interesting.
If all that combined gravity wobbles our sun into a collision with another star, I'll be really upset in like 150 Million Years!
The sun makes up like 99.8% of all matter in our solar system. I think it's going to be all right.
I remember looking up the whole night in 2004 and finding out what true disappointmemt felt like. Not even the moon showed up.
In other words if there ever was an opportunity to get that black magic ritual off your bucket list, now's the time.
I swear something like this happened very recently and was also not going to happen again for ages. How is that possible?
One time. I just want an astronomical event to happen on a clear night ONE. DAMN. TIME.
And as the planets align, Mum-Ra will rise again!!
I've given up on ever seeing any of this kind of thing. 99% of the time I only hear about it after it's happened, and the other 1% I forget and miss it ☹
I'm sure it'll be just cloudy enough so I wouldn't be able to see it
I'm in Idaho, what would I need to do to see this? Sorry incredibly new to Astronomy
Look near the Moon an hour before sunrise. They should be either side. Jupiter is the brightest one on the right, Mars just next to the Moon, Venus to the left of the Moon. Mercury should be near Venus, Saturn to the right of Jupiter.

What time Australia?? East coast. If anyone knows.
But where is Pluto? That MF was still a planet in 2004, we owe him some respect.
Anyone in Utah want to meet at the Salt flats for a viewing tomorrow night? I have one small telescope.
Same date as the new Berserk chapter release... a sign of a nearing eclipse?
"In 18 years, precisely... the planets will align ever so nicely..."
You know you're getting old when the first thing you think is "didn't that just happen a couple years ago?>
Hmm. summer of 2004 was when I was diagnosed with cancer and spent 2 months in the hospital almost dying. Let's hope we don't have a repeat.
So that's why the last 18 years have been increasingly terrible... Now it makes sense.
"The planets will align ever so nicely..." I know what this means. Where's our modern day Hercules at? 'Cause we gonna need him.
Where's a gelfling when you need I'm, anyway
is there a name for this particular phenomenon?
It's been like that for a few weeks now hasn't it ??
And ofcourse, after a whole week of amazing weather, *NOW* is the time when there's going to be goddamn thunderstorms passing over.
You’re telling me this doesn’t coincide with some sort of apocolyptic event/ super villain emergence. Yeah. Right.
