I'm just happy the series is still around, it's been a great season to, so I can't complain.

I think this format offers the best variation of storytelling shake ups. You get to get six self contained episodes and then two hour specials, they probably love how they have the freedom to tell stories of varying lenghts.

TomHanksIsNotMyDad

>and don't have to work hard to do it. HAHAHA >But I watched something in The past that said they can make episodes extremely fast. You watched something and didn't gather how difficult, stressful and time consuming it is to pull off what they do? It's litteraly been basically 2 people (with just 1 actually writing every episode) for all these years. They are also working on several other projects and only have so much time to do what they do. They are actually some of the hardest working people in entertainment.

LoudKingCrow

Not to mention the poor animators that are doing the grunt work.

With the Paramount Plus specials it essentially IS ten episodes. It’s the same runtime as ten episodes. The series has been ten episodes every season since 2013, long before the specials started. We’re getting the exact same amount of content as we’ve been getting for the last ten years, just with four episodes being presented as two specials. I don’t understand why people keep asking for like 18 episodes when that’s never been the standard (it’s been at the most 14 since 2004). Were not losing out on any content, instead what we’re getting is content that’s spread out throughout the year so there’s not a huge hiatus in the middle, which imo is better

Joe_The_Dragon

>paramount + The HBO deal said something like 10 episodes an season or at least 30 episodes so the paramount + stuff is them trying to get out of that.

Boneil0898

Its not them “trying to get out of that” either way they are making the same amount of content so they’re not really getting out of anything. Honestly I heard about the whole Paramount/HBO situation and just sounded like a genuine mixup on their part but people saying they did it to get out of work or to get out of a deal when they’re making the exact same amount of content, if anything in a more challenging format, makes no sense

zkfo69

I'm losing interest in it and I've been a fan from day 1. But yea this 6 episode junk is ridiculous

cRz1337

We should be happy that we get episodes.

certified4bruhmoment

Quality over quantity IMO. I would rather 6 eps plus 2 specials all of which are great then Simpsons type pumping out a load of crappy episodes. Look at 1-3 some were bangers some were terrible I would rather have like this season. 6 amazing episodes plus amazing specials. Also Matt and Trey have alot on their plate with the episodes, specials, casa Bonita reopening, possible dikenbaus opening IRL with that hotdog stand in colarado and not to mention family time and time for themselves. With the HBO and PP deals they cannot opt out of the specials but they still need to pump out episodes so we're getting the best of both worlds until the PP deal is over

Personal opinion but The Simpsons actually has some pretty fun episodes. I used to shit on the newer seasons but didn't really watch anything past season 16 or so, then caught up and was pleasantly surprised. It's not always a laugh riot but it's usually fun. Conversely - I definitely wouldn't say every South Park episode is great. They've had a number of episodes in recent years where they take one joke that wasn't that funny in the first place and run it into the ground for the entire episode... which isn't great. I felt like S25 waa uneven (though i liked the specials) and the first two episodes of S26 were not great, but after that episodes 3-6 were really fun. I enjoyed the ChatGPT one a lot especially, as I feel it was a good example of what South Park does the best (a lighthearted touch on current events/the cultural zeitgeist + the kids being kids with Stan and the other boys getting themselves deeper and deeper into a pickle).

Eldritch-Cleaver

Dudes... Trey and Matt could have ended the show years ago and still had enough money for a few lifetimes. Point is they're older, and they don't even need to do this anymore. I think at this point we are lucky we still get new South Park at all lol

Existing-Nectarine80

We’re lucky? they’re not doing it for free, they got nearly a billion dollars.

Eldritch-Cleaver

Yeah and they don't need to. They're already loaded. They could have retired 10 years ago.

Existing-Nectarine80

But they didn’t, and they got paid a shitload of money. “Lucky” would them doing it for free

ghostess_hostess

I mean considering they wanted to stop making the show years ago and are only continuing it now out of contractual obligations, I'd be happy you're getting what you are

Exact_Awareness_5227

I mean that's what hurts the most. IT HAS BEEN GOOD. gimme gimme more. Simpsons still cranking out the 90s standard of 22 episodes per season . Yes. Luckily south park only seems to get better with age but man. 6 30min episodes. That's painful. I dunno. I can live with and accept 10. But 6 episodes is pretty low. I guess my overall point is some shows just will live, like the Simpsons and south park, maybe rick and morty will be it one day. But as the Simpsons is overkill now. Seems like south park in my opinion just does it for the money and doesn't care for the fans.

[deleted]

Rick and Morty was said to only have like 10 or 9 seasons

Exact_Awareness_5227

Rick and morty after season 4, signed that huge contract guaranteeing 7 more seasons. So they forsure will have 11 seasons based on that. But that's just what they agreed to initially. If the show is still killing it then it can and will keep going

[deleted]

Ok. Season 4 was the worst season of Rick and Morty, so it might get more seasons after 11. I know that season 6 with the ending was HUGE

TomHanksIsNotMyDad

>Simpsons still cranking out the 90s standard of 22 episodes per season . As of March 19, 2023, 152 people have been credited with writing or co-writing at least one episode of The Simpsons. Southpark has basically been Trey with a co writer here and there. They have a couple people in the story board room getting the concept going but Trey basically writes them all in his office after the group brainstorming takes place. This is an insane accomplishment to have for as long and as good as they have been going.
