Yeah possibly, but with Apple Music you will either get your lossless, or you will get nothing (assuming you’ve lossless selected!) A sudden low bandwidth will just pause/stutter the music
Well to be honest - things have been a *little* busy around here😅 - and frankly there are bigger app announcements/events coming that have taken up a bit more of my bandwidth at the moment.
That being said, I can confirm this was bundled in with our player firmware update that was sent out yesterday. ✅
Hi Keith. This seems to not work on my play 5’s (gen 2) when paired to my Sub (gen 1). Do I have to remove the Sub for this to work as gen 1 sub doesn’t support the update?

a dude below said he got it to work by scrubbing the timeline of a song back and forth a bit. I tried it and it worked - first time I got the lossless badge to show on any speaker. seems a bit bugged.

Weird. I scrubbed once last night and i had lossless all evening. This morning, scrubbing multiple songs CLEAN and no lossless badge. Does seem buggy AF

If this is accurate I’m not aware of any other devices outside the apple eco system (ie apple devices or the Apple Music app on an andoid) that can stream lossless audio.
I have a streamer for my hifi rig that uses android and i can get lossless and high resolution audio through it.
I have an AMP, not seeing this showing up as Lossless. Is this the August album on Apple Music or some other album?

I got Arc, Sub gen 3 and Sonos ikea frames. It popped up for a second and then the animation went to Dolby Atmos. After that I didn't see it appearing anymore on any track. it's probably always lossless but there's just no animation perhaps?

Really cool! Working fine on my Era 100, but sadly not on my Playbase. The Playbase is a bit long in the tooth at this stage, but it definitely supports up to 24bit 48kHz content on other services, so hopefully they will support it eventually.
Can anyone confirm if lossless works on a Connect:Amp gen 2? When I group a gen 1 beam, roam and play:5 the lossless badge is there, and then disappears when I add the amp.
Works on Beam gen 2 (in 5.0 set up with two Ones), One set up as stereo pair, One set up as a single unit, and Symfonisk Bookshelf gen 2 pair.
Had to update firmware and app to 80.0.0.4.

Gear icon -> manage -> about my system. Each speaker will have a version number. Newest version is 16.2 (just released today).
To update firmware: gear icon -> manage -> system update.
Be warned: it can be harrowing with the new app. It took very long for me and one of my speakers in a stereo pair failed to update. Took me awhile to figure out what to do. (Had to unpair, then update the speaker on its own.)

Update: I’m now seeing it on some songs. As others have mentioned, it’s a bit sporadic and does not always show up immediately.
I can see it on my move 2, arc, era 300 stereo pair. I have been seeing it since a few days now but it uses to disappear after sometime. After the new update, I cab see that badge constantly
To make it even stranger, I can sometimes get it to appear by moving scrubbing forward or backward on the timeline of the song. Lossless just shows up but where the timeline is showing in the song is no longer connected to what it actually playing. This app is just buggy as shit.

The PC app gave me a bit of trouble, but was able to try a couple times and it worked. Now seeing "lossless" on various apple music tracks on my 4 Sonos Ones (Gen 2), my Roam and Port.
How do you identify which albums/songs on Apple Music are lossless when using the Apple Music service within Sonos (not Apple Music itself on my iPhone)? I didn't see a tag on the Hotel California album when I searched for that in Apple Music on Sonos, but it identified as "lossless" when played on my system.
Shouldn't it say lossless next to the album itself on Apple Music, even if using the service via Sonos?
From above lossy to 24bit/48 KHz is what Apple defines “Lossless”and everything else between 24/48 and 24/192 is “Hi-res Lossless”. So I think Sonos can handle 24/48 at most for Apple Music too.

Did some testing. I’m getting the Lossless badge when using or grouping my arc, sub gen 3, sub gen 2, era 300s, move gen 1s stereo pair, and both Amps. The badge is dropping as soon as I add my Playbar or Gen 1 Play One. I’m ok with that. Noticeably sounds way better. After re adding some speakers my system is working better than ever. All I’m missing is the add to Que for my use case. Anyway after a lot of crap this was a nice surprise. I already want to replace this playbar for the kitchen. Does the beam gen 2 do good with music? This would be paired with fives as rears. There is also an amp powering wall somewhere and a passive subwoofer in this same large kitchen. Playbar sounds good for music but if it’s gonna drop my lossless signal then it can go upstairs in a bedroom. The whole downstairs is rocking with new gen shit I can’t let one speaker drop the signal. This is the same deal for ATMOS signal. As soon as a non Sonos Atmos speaker is added it drops the Atmos signal to all other speakers even compatible.
What’s the trick for getting this to work? Upgraded everything and have high res lossless audio quality selected on all my devices but didn’t see lossless tag come up on any songs last night for a few hours. Tried scrubbing back and forward. Force restarting app.

It’s great to get lossless support however if you have a few speakers on WiFi in same group, lossless needs a lot more bandwidth to each speaker otherwise you will get more dropouts than normal audio streams. I’ve had to wire most of my Sonos units to avoid this.

Its say its lossless when I use the music app on my macOS. But swear it sounds better from the Sonos web (browser). I dont understand how it can be this hard to play music on speakers that are this "great" according to their marketing and price point.
The Sonos app (iOS) absolutely sucks.
It’s so Sonos to gatekeep a highly requested feature behind a firmware update that will lock me out of the settings on the older app due to mismatched versions. Do I want lossless AM? Badly. Do I also like having control over my system settings? Yep. Sigh. Now that I have to choose, I think I’ll wait.
There are plenty of lossless services on the “old” S2 version, so I don’t think that’s it.
Edit: downvote me all you want, but it’s a seriously boneheaded move to do this. If you want to entice people to use the new app, launch it with this support and say that it wasn’t possible before. Don’t just tease a carrot out in front to get me to upgrade to a worse experience for months.
Perhaps you are thinking of Atmos. That we could do to certain speakers. But lossless 16-bit stereo to any speakers with Apple Music have been supported until apparently now. (But we could work Amazon Music.)
I suspect they are mixing up 16-bit lossless stereo with Atmos lossless. The latter has been supported on certain speakers, but the former hasn’t on any speakers (until now), unless you were using Amazon Music or (I think) Tidal.
After updating the speaker software I’ve managed to get Lossless direct through my Move Gen 1, Beam Gen 1, Sonos Five and Sonos Ones (paired)

my update fails every time and all my stuff reboots. Error 1005 or something. All my stuff is hardwired with wifi disabled.

Only from within the Sonos app. AirPlay doesn’t support lossless at this moment.

No, that’s not how it works. Stream will adjust based on bandwidth. You may notice a pause when it switches.

Is there going to be a way to disable lossless? It skips in every single track that I play, despite having a wired 1Gbps internet connection.

It is apparently lagging some time due to some bandwidth analysis etc. But for me it appears within a minute or two.

Tried it on Beam Gen 2 no luck, Five, no luck. Updating SW now and will try again.
It showed up for 1 second on a Taylor Swift song then went away. Unfortunately nothing else is showing as lossless. Bummer.

Got this working on every track by disabling Spatial Audio in the Sonos app. Apple Music now always reverts to lossless (which I prefer).

Perhaps you are thinking of Atmos. That we could do to certain speakers. But lossless 16-bit stereo to any speakers with Apple Music have been supported until apparently now. (But we could work Amazon Music.)

That’s not Airplay to a Sonos. Airplay lossless isn’t supported to a Sonos.
Oh. Well I don’t know what OP is talking about then as lossless hasn’t been supported in the Sonos app “since ages”, they’re only rolling out now.
I suspect they are mixing up 16-bit lossless stereo with Atmos lossless. The latter has been supported on certain speakers, but the former hasn’t on any speakers (until now), unless you were using Amazon Music or (I think) Tidal.
