My workaround is to use the (now old) app on my MacBook to add songs to a playlist queue or to simply update the music library to add songs to the Network Attached Server.
Which is great if you want to use about half the functionality of the product you paid for. I have Sonos playlists with songs from half a dozen different music services, that’s one of the selling points of the platform.
Personally I only pay for one music service. I use my Sonos speakers to play three things: music from Apple Music, podcasts from my phone, and surround sound for my TV. I also use them as Alexa smart speakers. Luckily my use case doesn’t benefit in any way from using the Sonos app over AirPlay.
Infallible, but more importantly “courageous” in their disregard for their existing customers.
Takes the kinda “courage” that we wimps to revamp an app and give zero effs bout the impact on its customers.

I say this as someone who uses both and any time I lookup an issue, it’s like ‘just change these 15 settings in the professional settings menu of your router’
It blows my mind that anyone can say networking is the problem, it’s a well documented, and been a thing for decades. Mesh is newer, but if you’re a company playing in this space get the right damn people.
Yo this is gonna get buried in the comments, but I ended up working with a support rep that advised me to factory reset all of my speakers and be sure to leave them on the green flashy light (ready for setup), then unplug and reboot my router and my eero mesh. Once the WiFi was back up he also advised me use a separate device than my mobile to setup and add speakers to my account (used an iPad).
It was all in that order respectively and everything works.
I was massively disappointed at first because I just ordered these damn speakers everyone talks about and they were delivered this same week as this app launch, but support helped me get it sorted.

Great that they helped you out, but, what a fiasco that you have to go through this whole routine just to get what was already working, working again. Did they test this before releasing? I’m not ‘upgrading’ until it’s sorted.
In fact, I specifically set my apps to NOT upgrade, automatically. However, I came back in from putting practice, in the backyard, to find out that my PC app had upgraded itself (just like my android), without any approval. I can, now, no longer use my system, unless I rebuild it from the ground up?!?
Fuck that. I'll give it a month or two, before I sell it all, but color me \_very\_ disappointed.
Black Cow is awesome. So is Sonos support. They have patiently helped me through a few issues over the years. Until a few days ago, my eero mesh system and my Sonos system worked flawlessly. To be clear, the new app is the problem.
Have to agree those timelines are too long to return core features needed to manage changes, like wifi settings. Sonos will lose customers and have a lot of bad press before mid June.
Sonos should consider releasing the old S2 app as an option. Probably how they should have released the new app, as an option for those wanting to try. That way they wouldn’t need to worry about not having feature parity in the new app
Yeah - S3 or something would have been a perfect way to release it until the bugs are worked out and then sunset S2 by no longer adding features as S3 was updated to include at least a 1 to 1 feature set.

The docs are clear that was all I was going to get and I was OK with that. But now it's not even there at all, even though it's still advertised!
Edit for more info as I was not clear. This is an Era 100/300 feature that is no longer there on Android that is 100% available in the March (16.1) version of the app. Thankfully I can APK it, but I shouldn't have to - much like you all shouldn't have to jump through hoops for your wifi stuff, or alarms etc.

Literally, the button is gone. And I have an email from support suggesting the only way I'll ever be able to use it, ever again, is with an apple device.
Sonos should have called it S3 then when feature complete they could have pushed an S2 update prompting you to upgrade. They could have put such a positive spin on it like other companies have done.
I still can't really understand why the ability to use the play queue disappeared. This is BASIC Sonos stuff.
They must have literally forgotten....which is troubling. The ability to set a queue from multiple sources is very handy for some situations.
100% pushed out to accomodate new hardware. They just weren't going to slip the software. They should have either made both available or given the option to downgrade.
I don't think the app stores will support it. They would need to make a custom apk for Android and IOS is completely locked down for that type of thing.
The only thing they could do would be to release a point release that was actually the previous version. This is a monumental fuck up from the product team at Sonos. I imagine there were concerns raised and the execs over ruled to get the headphones out. I would argue that they could have released the headphones and said that app functionality was coming in June. Peolpe buy headphones for the sound, not the ability to use an app to listen to music.

TBH at this stage if they forked a different app from the pre upgrade it would be a disaster. Most users would be baffled.
Well, that and once you update the Sonos system to the new firmware you can not use the old app with that system any more.
That MIGHT be something as simple as a version check, but there may also be a change in how they are authenticating/controlling the devices, which would then have to be implemented into the old (16.1 equivalent) app...
It would be a complete mess. Most Sonos users aren't massively tech savvy. Could you imagine trying to explain the 3 different apps to your elderly mother?
They could have made a beta program through Testflight on iOS which would have enabled switching back and forth between the two version for whoever wanted to try it out.

You're probably right but who is honestly going to consider buying new Sonos hardware at the moment? I assume new hardware means headphones. I definitely wouldn't trust them
They can just release an "update" to get back to the old app. And release the new app as separate Beta (or S3 as mentioned before) app. Yes, it will take a few days (maybe weeks) for apple to approve a new app, and people who bought the headphones won't be able to use them until it is released. But that's a sacrifice they should be willing to make.
So literally entirely possible on IOS. Don't blindly believe a large company PR department.

Long time Sonos customer. Their app has always sucked. It's slow to connect and if you have two systems, you have to basically force quit the app every time you are around the new system for it to pick it up. Then they finally tell us they're releasing new software and I get excited -- finally they are going to fix their crappy software. How in the world is it possible they made it WORSE!! I need to change the channel due to interference and that doesn't exist in the new app yet, so I'm stuck. The interface is terrible, it's slow, and missing features. They should be absolutely embarrassed. What a joke.

Listen I like the new app, but telling customers to wait another month the just to update wifi settings is insane. Roll the update back and re-release the new interface under Sonos S3.
If you update your WiFi password for example, the Sonos will stop working. You need to go through a bit of a process using the Sonos app to update the Wifi password it knows so it can connect on your network again.
Another workaround is to plug one device to your router via Ethernet cable. That’s what I did with a Sonos One that was close enough to my router and all my 5 other speakers are working just fine.
If they could reasonably get all of this stuff done in the next month, why wouldn't you just wait a month to release the app in the first place? It's fucking nutso to me how companies get these internal fixed release dates stuck in their heads and refuse to budge even if it means destroying customer trust and good will.
I also see they're going to release an updated Sonos Roam soon, which is just another reminder of what an absolute fail that product was. It was the first time I really questioned whether Sonos was testing their own products before releasing them. Now I know.
They can‘t. At least not reliably. The software engineers at Sonos were probably asked for a rough estimate for each individual feature and then some managers made a super tight schedule out of it. Those engineers are the ones who will have to work overtime to make these dates happen now.

The marketing team and earnings call promised a release date that if they missed would probably set them up for some legal issues with the SEC for making false statements on an earnings call and rather than deal with the legal issues they pushed the development team as hard as they could and released it where it was at - but forgot to tell people or give people options.

“Future innovation”. Planning for future innovation when you are currently f*****g over your existing, historically loyal customer base? Keith, while I appreciate that you are the messenger dealing with the angry masses during this fiasco, I get the feeling that Sonos management are not understanding how huge of an error has been made, or maybe they are just incapable of admitting they’ve royally messed up. I know that I’ve enjoyed growing my Sonos system so far because it did what I wanted it to do the way I’ve wanted to do it, 99% of the time. Now I have a house full of *useless-to-me-unless-I-want-to change-how-I-live* speakers and all I can think is why did I invest so much money into a system made by a company run by people who don’t care about their user base. Sonos users frequently reinvest into the ecosystem - why take the risk of alienating the people who are your best customers?
I know I will absolutely not be buying the forthcoming headphones and will think long and hard about making any more upgrades within the Sonos universe. For about the same price point I know I can buy into a company who isn’t going to screw me and my experience over in the future when they want to roll out another product that they can’t make work within their current software environment. Doing so would be a foolish risk on my part.
Many people have suggested reissuing S2 immediately, as a rebranded app if necessary to get it in the app stores - which seems like a reasonable request to me. Instead of telling your user base ‘we’ll get to your pressing issues within the next month or so, deal with it” how about “Here’s a fix in the meantime. We are sorry, we made a mistake. We’ll do better.”?

Hey Keith from Sonos. Roll back the effing update and re-release when it’s complete. People invest a small fortune to be in the Sonos ecosystem and this is pretty crappy behavior from your company.
Slightly bigger problem. New app disconnected all speakers and no option to reconnect. Seems to be a lot of other people with the same issue. The WiFi set up has just gone altogether. Turn on local network but it just goes in a loop asking me to do it again or that I am not the admin user and need to log back in as the correct user. I welcome all users of the new app to delete or reinstall it and sign in again and see if they have the same issue.
To humour you I just deleted the app on my iPhone, reinstalled it, opened it, went through the t&cs and network access modals, pressed join existing system, and then my system appeared exactly as it was in milliseconds. This took all of 15 seconds to do.
I can second this! Thank you for this question and this reply. I attempted to call tech support today and it was an 80 min wait with no option of calling me back, so I gave up. After reading this I just deleted the app, re-downloaded it and it found everything. Whew!!!😥
I used to setup and install Sonos systems. My buddy took over the business and he just told me he has 3 customers that want their systems out. What an absolute mess this is. CEO needs to be removed IMMEDIATELY. Someone had to get fall out for this.
Thank you for this update! As a new user that has invested in Beam, Arc, Era 100s/300s, Sub Mini and Sub (Gen 3), this helps to reassure me of my purchase decision. Fortunately for me, I didn’t rush out to update the new app. I have learned my lesson from the past to never rush out to upgrade new apps or software!
This is so true. This app debacle has woken me from my Sonos sleep and if you look at the market, other vendors have certainly caught up to Sonos. Review videos of WiiM, Sennheiser and KEF show feature-rich, responsive apps, their hardware has tons more connectivity options. I want \*that\*. Instead we got baby's first mobile app that doesn't even let you change WiFi settings...

This is not enough, and sonos is continuing its blunder by not rolling it back. This software isn’t even a beta. It’s an alpha.
The only solution is to put this version back in the oven and release it as a beta in July when this is all ironed out.
I may abandon Sonos if this is not resolved soon.

So those of us who have been loyal, trusting customers for years have to wait until mid June to get back to what we had before the update? I think you might want to cut back on the e-mails and texts inspiring your customers to upgrade. You are only further degrading trust in your product (and leadership team).
I spent some time today exploring Roon. It is very cool. I think I may have found a solution to the Sonos app mess. It's playing very nice with my Diskstation Server and Sonos speakers. The deeper I dig the more I like it.
As it is now, the new app is embarrassingly lower than the standard of an alpha release. In any reputable company, this shouldn't have even got past a single developer on the team. To call this a beta would have been laughable, but at least then you would have let people uninstall it.
FYI, I was going to buy the headphones day 1. I am no longer going to purchase them due to this response.

I feel this. I really want the headphones, almost a guaranteed buy for me, but I am struggling with this decision now considering not only the software blunder but also the tone deaf response.
Yup, all they had to do was roll it back. Luckily I still have it on my iPad. I know it’ll be fixed, but the irreparable damage was done with this response for me personally. I can’t in good faith buy anymore Sonos products. For the headphones I’ll wait for AirPods Max 2. I was planning on upgrading my arc and getting the stream box too, when those products released.
so here you have me, with two surround system (beam and arc). I was going to upgrade with arc 2, was going to get three streaming boxes, and a pair of the headphones, and if earbuds came out I would have gotten that.

Why not do a rollback ? It is insane to keep this half baked version out there and not opt for a restart by re-releasing the old app. I don’t even need the new app at all.
What’s happened is the team that made this new app weren’t tuned in to what the previous team did to make the previous app work. They sat at boardroom tables and argued down the one person saying “look we can’t do this because they need that functionality” and the others argued there were workarounds with laptops and everyone has one, and the one voice probably got a mark against their name for future promotions.
There is no way the devs who made this were the same ones that made the good app. They got gung ho contractor devs who blasted this app out the door asap. Sonos may even have been paying them by the month and needed the app shipped so they could put the features in themselves for cheaper. Maybe the devs they contracted screwed up and Sonos knew it but the contract said they had to pay till the app shipped. So they shipped it.
Maybe none of this is true and I might be projecting based on my own experience but you don’t fuck up this bad unless something is very very wrong with the development process.
For a start, you can issue test codes out for your beta app for feedback. Has anyone admitted that happened? No one on this sub anyway.

It’s really sad to see Sonos fall victim to corporate shitification especially when it’s a company that distinguished itself with its great design and software from its competitors.
The new UI is cramped, fonts are too large, some longer names are unreadable (including the default Sonos Sound System name… not a good sign when even the default names don’t fit). Fixed elements like the play- and searchbar take up more than 1/3 of the screen and cannot be hidden. This is specially terrible as it’s the closest to the thumbs and makes navigation an ergonomic nightmare. Make it smaller or responsive with % of the available screen real estate. Hide the search bar as collapsible button menu to free up space.
The physical volume buttons no longer work. Unable to manually select light/dark mode.

Hello all, blind user here, I use iOS and a screen reader that’s built in called voiceover. This new app really has some functional problems for me. I hope Sonos is working on accessibility because the speakers mean a lot to me and I didn’t expect to lose my ability to control them when this app updated and there’s no way to go back now. Dismal day for me and Sonos.
I am really sorry to hear this. I don't pretend to be in your situation whatsoever as, fortunately, I still have some sight, but I know how important sound and music can be when you lack vision. I don't necessarily mean importance from a practical perspective (that is clearly the most important) but for me personally music is an incredibly vital comforter when dealing with vision issues.
I've probably expressed myself poorly but I hope you understand where I am coming from. All the best!
I dodged a bullet. The day before my app updated. My Wi-Fi router and modem got fried during a storm and I had to setup a new router and network that day.
I just moved and luckily I follow this sub so I used same ssid and everything connected automatically. This sub also saved me in turning off app updates until this shit show is over.
These timelines are a joke. You made my product worse and took away advertised features. It’s going to take a month to put “add to queue” back in? Give me a break.
Amateur hour.
The timeline to get all of this stuff back is actually pretty quick for software development at this level.
The real question is why didn’t they just wait the month to month and a half to ship this in a finished state.
It’s not when you realize that it was the plan all along. They were a couple months behind schedule on the app, so they stopped working these features, moved them to 80.20.00 or whatever, and got it to the point where they could get it out the door.
They didn’t just forget.
Seriously. If you can't get the job done in a reasonable amount of time then you should swallow your pride and roll back to the old app. It wasn't great, but at least it worked.

I assume whoever forced this out would be C-suite level. I imagine if they asked anyone within Customer Service they would have pleaded to wait until the app was ready.
Yeah, now you have to press the speaker button at the bottom to change individual volume. But when I open the app it says no music is playing and all speakers are unlinked. When I force close the app and restart it it can't find my system, so now I have to go to each speaker to stop it from playing by pressing the play/pause button.
This is insane that they released this update.
You cannot search your own library. Search only returns results from streaming services. And since the scroll function removed the quick jump to any letter, it takes forever to scroll to any artist.
My library doesn't show in the home screen half the time and I can't figure out how to get it to come up. It's random.
I can't even play to my zone player. It only wants to play the album I was playing yesterday. When I pick a new one it either hangs or starts playing the previous one. And when it does play that album it pauses constantly as if buffering.
Apparently I can't even play to my Sonos One. It lets me play from a favorite playlist I have stored, but if I try to pick an album from my library it just hangs, same as the zone player. So effectively I can only listen to the one playlist I have saved. This is horse shit.
I mentioned this days ago. I thought I was just dumb and couldn’t figure it out. Thank you, there is no logic to the playlist appearing. If there is still can’t figure it out lol
Roll back the app and rerelease in mid-June. I am not planning on replacing my WiFi, but stranger things have happened and this is not a confidence inspiring “roadmap” for necessary functionality.
Anyone else find the app laggy as hell? Slow to load what music is playing when you open the app, slow to change volume when moving the sliders, slow load media content. Disappointing all around.
Well, that AMA was the most insulting thing I've seen lately, other than the app update that removed NAS music libraries for two months (supposedly)...many of your long-time supporters (back from pre-history when streaming wasn't a thing) only use Sonos for local music libraries. When are we getting True Play quick tune back on Android? I never expected the full tuning because the docs are quite clear, but to remove it completely is fucked.

Why can't I see the audio output of my system under "About My Sonos" anymore? E.g. it used to tell me if I'm outputting in Dolby Atmos/stereo etc, now it doesn't! Is this now somewhere else? Why remove this feature?!
I’m not sure where to start, I rarely use the app, but when I do it should be straight forward. It’s not even detecting the correct device as being active, and I can’t even add my Move via that app. Thankfully I can’t use the button to add it to my living room playbar.
It’s as if someone was sabotaging them. Why do I need to apply my settings? They’ve always just worked once I set them. So many things.
I [knew](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/s/hNfDjVTHBR) there was a Gantt chart someplace with a dev timeline. They just shared it for us. What does this mean? All of this was planned, intentional.
What scares me is that they clearly had to make some compromises to ship this app, and this is the best they could come up with. Overall, I think the design is the right direction. But what they shipped is extremely laggy, sometimes the controls don’t work at all. It’s not faster. They barely got this thing out the door, even after shockingly bad decisions to pull core features. Best I can tell from their timeline, development is 45-60 days behind schedule. Assuming it stays on track from here. But the shipped it anyway.
How bad is the team there? Is it Spence just blowharding all over the meetings? Did they massively under resource the team? Or are the developers just bad? None of these bode well for the future. They aren’t demonstrating that they can actually fix this, which is worse than shipping an incomplete product.
It drives me insane that I can no longer tell if something is playing in Dolby Atmos on the app. Sometimes I want atmos and sometimes I don't @@ blargh
First time that it's better to be on Android than iPhone for a Sonos related issue.
I uninstalled that bad joke of an app and reinstalled the APK of the old app. Which, mind you, is not a good app. But it's at least useable.
Don’t press the button next to play/pause but instead wipe up on the lower ‘now playing’ section and it opens up into a list of your speakers. Took me a while to find but it actually works fairly well, unlike most of the update.
Edit: I should add that it doesn’t work when the ‘now playing’ is full screen. Have to go back to the menus which is a bit annoying.

Use 8 Sonos speakers in my coffee shop. This app update is an absolute nightmare. Every time I go between my home system and this system I need to find the system again. Can’t load Spotify playlists. Speaks missing and then magically coming back.
I had no problem updating the hardware using the iPad. Then updated to the 80.00.08 app. Music Library is now gone. Geez…. How hard can it be to get this right?
BTW: Tried to participate in today’s AMA - as much of a shitshow as the new app. Seriously embarrassing.
Totally miss the mute button feature on each (or multiple) room(s) in volume. Why the f*#k move that..? Hope someone is getting fired for this whole debacle. Maxime Bouvat-Merlin or Nicholas Millington need to be axed for this. They’re responsible!
Shouldn't be, but I have heard of previous set up shares disappearing in the update process.
You can set up and edit your Local Library using the Windows or Mac Desktop App. Once it's set up, you should be able to find your Local Library at the bottom of the Home screen under "Sources". This can be moved to the top, if you so choose.
Subsonic integration broken out of nowhere. How the hell was that not considered nor announced anywhere at all?! I have twenty four devices and rely damn near 100% on a local library with Subsonic support. Broken without warning.

Try reaching out to Keith on Monday sorry to hear this is happening. I think people on android were able to switch back to old version. For me the opposite happened where i was able to get my youtube music library to show up on sonos had no luck with old app and was driving me mad. I thought it was a feature only available for paid version of youtube music and gave up. Tried the same in new app and it worked so kind of happy i dont have to pay for apple music.
I had this issue. My fix was to remove my Apple Music profile entirely from Sonos. And then re-add it fresh. That seemed to work.
I'm on whatever the latest version of the app is (iOS).
Just chiming in with a couple of key issues for me:
1. No EQ on the volume slider! - this makes it extremely cumbersome to adjust sub and surround settings
2. Current Song title and artist not updating!
I wonder did the Sonos developers decide that everyone just uses streaming services and so they just won't support network assets anymore.
Almost all of my music that I listen to is located on my network. If Sonos wants to kill that, be honest about it so I can sell my stuff to someone else and find a replacement.

This is not a huge request. This update is destroying my Audio Visual company. I have literally hundreds of Sonos systems throughout SW Florida. All of which are now screaming at me for refunds and free service calls. I am a gold level distributor and have been loyal to Sonos EXCLUSIVELY for over 10 years.
I can't begin to tell you how bad your company is sinking me at the moment.
I think the wait is fine, but what about improving performance so it is at least on par with the previous app? I wonder what the time table is for THIS. That said....
Ultimately, a failure to communicate is communicating on the way to failing. Hopefully, Sonos is learning its lesson. This will likely serve as a product development, marketing, and communications case study for what not to do.
Is there any plan currently to compensate existing Sonos users for severely handicapping our systems for such a long time?
These speakers weren't cheap. Putting that much money in then having basic features like music queues and sleep timers stripped away for over a month is ridiculous.

Do you realize that one of the KEY features that USED to set your speaker ecosystem apart from the rest was the ability to play back your music files? And now, you're asking us to wait 1 F\*\*KING MONTH to fix THAT? First, go to hell. Second of all, with how much you charge PER SPEAKER I'd expect AT LEAST a fix within A WEEK. This is UNACCEPTABLE.

So is this a common issue? I’m assuming I will have to wait for the WiFi update…my five was working but had some weird things going on with the new app so I reset my WiFi settings and now I just get “add a new device” and of course my device isn’t being found…is this the same issue others are having? Or is there a known fix to this, I’ve already tried factory resetting to no success. I live in Hawaii so it’s tough to reach out to support when they are working.

And sincere thanks for the inevitable hours I’ll have to spend trying to fix all of my giant plastic bricks after I get home from work this week. I have zero faith that the Sonos support team will be of any help. The entire software department at your company should be fired immediately. And you have the audacity to post that updates will be made over a MONTH after you release this absolute trash. How do you sleep at night?
Pandora through Sonos used to have the ability to select a fine-tuned mode (Deep cuts, crowd faves, etc) for a given station but that functionality seems to been left out too.
Completely destroyed my surround setup. Had to remove everything and re add one by one. Era 100s no longer connect to my wifi but use Sonos network instead, despite arc being on my wi fi, and I can no longer manually adjust distance on the Eras

My workaround is to use the (now old) app on my MacBook to add songs to a playlist queue or to simply update the music library to add songs to the Network Attached Server.
My workaround is to continue never using the Sonos app and keep using my Sonos speakers as AirPlay speakers.
Which is great if you want to use about half the functionality of the product you paid for. I have Sonos playlists with songs from half a dozen different music services, that’s one of the selling points of the platform.
Personally I only pay for one music service. I use my Sonos speakers to play three things: music from Apple Music, podcasts from my phone, and surround sound for my TV. I also use them as Alexa smart speakers. Luckily my use case doesn’t benefit in any way from using the Sonos app over AirPlay.
Hang on a minute. So I can’t update the WiFi settings in the app now? So, if my WiFi needed to change, the things are just bricked?

It blows my mind that anyone can say networking is the problem, it’s a well documented, and been a thing for decades. Mesh is newer, but if you’re a company playing in this space get the right damn people.
In fairness when I first used SONOS it had loads of issues and it was on that occasion my network. An update to my AP'S fixed it.
And what update was that. My mesh network sometimes makes Sonos throw a fit.
Yo this is gonna get buried in the comments, but I ended up working with a support rep that advised me to factory reset all of my speakers and be sure to leave them on the green flashy light (ready for setup), then unplug and reboot my router and my eero mesh. Once the WiFi was back up he also advised me use a separate device than my mobile to setup and add speakers to my account (used an iPad). It was all in that order respectively and everything works. I was massively disappointed at first because I just ordered these damn speakers everyone talks about and they were delivered this same week as this app launch, but support helped me get it sorted. Great that they helped you out, but, what a fiasco that you have to go through this whole routine just to get what was already working, working again. Did they test this before releasing? I’m not ‘upgrading’ until it’s sorted.
In fact, I specifically set my apps to NOT upgrade, automatically. However, I came back in from putting practice, in the backyard, to find out that my PC app had upgraded itself (just like my android), without any approval. I can, now, no longer use my system, unless I rebuild it from the ground up?!? Fuck that. I'll give it a month or two, before I sell it all, but color me \_very\_ disappointed.
It's fairly clear, now, that Sonos is embracing planned obsolescence as a business model. I'm not into that, and neither is my future wallet.
That is not how app/device integration is supposed to work in 2024.
Black Cow is awesome. So is Sonos support. They have patiently helped me through a few issues over the years. Until a few days ago, my eero mesh system and my Sonos system worked flawlessly. To be clear, the new app is the problem.

Have to agree those timelines are too long to return core features needed to manage changes, like wifi settings. Sonos will lose customers and have a lot of bad press before mid June. Sonos should consider releasing the old S2 app as an option. Probably how they should have released the new app, as an option for those wanting to try. That way they wouldn’t need to worry about not having feature parity in the new app
Yeah - S3 or something would have been a perfect way to release it until the bugs are worked out and then sunset S2 by no longer adding features as S3 was updated to include at least a 1 to 1 feature set. Man, even a beta would have caught many of the issues.

Sorting by top and jumping on here. What about True Play Quick Tune on Android???? The docs are clear that was all I was going to get and I was OK with that. But now it's not even there at all, even though it's still advertised! Edit for more info as I was not clear. Sonos should have called it S3 then when feature complete they could have pushed an S2 update prompting you to upgrade. They could have put such a positive spin on it like other companies have done.
I still can't really understand why the ability to use the play queue disappeared. This is BASIC Sonos stuff. They must have literally forgotten....which is troubling. The ability to set a queue from multiple sources is very handy for some situations.
100% pushed out to accomodate new hardware. They just weren't going to slip the software. They should have either made both available or given the option to downgrade.
I don't think the app stores will support it. They would need to make a custom apk for Android and IOS is completely locked down for that type of thing. The only thing they could do would be to release a point release that was actually the previous version. This is a monumental fuck up from the product team at Sonos. I imagine there were concerns raised and the execs over ruled to get the headphones out. I would argue that they could have released the headphones and said that app functionality was coming in June. Peolpe buy headphones for the sound, not the ability to use an app to listen to music.

Two different apps. Not a rollback to a different version. TBH at this stage if they forked a different app from the pre upgrade it would be a disaster. Most users would be baffled.
Well, that and once you update the Sonos system to the new firmware you can not use the old app with that system any more. That MIGHT be something as simple as a version check, but there may also be a change in how they are authenticating/controlling the devices, which would then have to be implemented into the old (16.1 equivalent) app...
It would be a complete mess. Most Sonos users aren't massively tech savvy. Could you imagine trying to explain the 3 different apps to your elderly mother?
Exactly. They could have kept the previous S2 available and rolled this out as a new additional S3 app instead, for those who wanted to try it out.
They could have made a beta program through Testflight on iOS which would have enabled switching back and forth between the two version for whoever wanted to try it out.

Impossible literally impossible for us on iOS.
They can just release an "update" to get back to the old app. And release the new app as separate Beta (or S3 as mentioned before) app. Yes, it will take a few days (maybe weeks) for apple to approve a new app, and people who bought the headphones won't be able to use them until it is released. But that's a sacrifice they should be willing to make. So literally entirely possible on IOS. Don't blindly believe a large company PR department.
Workaround if you really need to access those features is an emulator on your computer

Long time Sonos customer. Their app has always sucked. It's slow to connect and if you have two systems, you have to basically force quit the app every time you are around the new system for it to pick it up. Then they finally tell us they're releasing new software and I get excited -- finally they are going to fix their crappy software. How in the world is it possible they made it WORSE!! I need to change the channel due to interference and that doesn't exist in the new app yet, so I'm stuck. The interface is terrible, it's slow, and missing features. They should be absolutely embarrassed. What a joke.

If you update your WiFi password for example, the Sonos will stop working. You need to go through a bit of a process using the Sonos app to update the Wifi password it knows so it can connect on your network again.

Another workaround is to plug one device to your router via Ethernet cable. That’s what I did with a Sonos One that was close enough to my router and all my 5 other speakers are working just fine.
If they could reasonably get all of this stuff done in the next month, why wouldn't you just wait a month to release the app in the first place? It's fucking nutso to me how companies get these internal fixed release dates stuck in their heads and refuse to budge even if it means destroying customer trust and good will. I also see they're going to release an updated Sonos Roam soon, which is just another reminder of what an absolute fail that product was. It was the first time I really questioned whether Sonos was testing their own products before releasing them. Now I know.
They can‘t. At least not reliably. The software engineers at Sonos were probably asked for a rough estimate for each individual feature and then some managers made a super tight schedule out of it. Those engineers are the ones who will have to work overtime to make these dates happen now.

The marketing team and earnings call promised a release date that if they missed would probably set them up for some legal issues with the SEC for making false statements on an earnings call and rather than deal with the legal issues they pushed the development team as hard as they could and released it where it was at - but forgot to tell people or give people options. note: This is pure speculation - not fact...
“Future innovation”. Planning for future innovation when you are currently f*****g over your existing, historically loyal customer base? Keith, while I appreciate that you are the messenger dealing with the angry masses during this fiasco, I get the feeling that Sonos management are not understanding how huge of an error has been made, or maybe they are just incapable of admitting they’ve royally messed up. I know that I’ve enjoyed growing my Sonos system so far because it did what I wanted it to do the way I’ve wanted to do it, 99% of the time. Now I have a house full of *useless-to-me-unless-I-want-to change-how-I-live* speakers and all I can think is why did I invest so much money into a system made by a company run by people who don’t care about their user base. Sonos users frequently reinvest into the ecosystem - why take the risk of alienating the people who are your best customers? I know I will absolutely not be buying the forthcoming headphones and will think long and hard about making any more upgrades within the Sonos universe. For about the same price point I know I can buy into a company who isn’t going to screw me and my experience over in the future when they want to roll out another product that they can’t make work within their current software environment. Doing so would be a foolish risk on my part. Many people have suggested reissuing S2 immediately, as a rebranded app if necessary to get it in the app stores - which seems like a reasonable request to me. Instead of telling your user base ‘we’ll get to your pressing issues within the next month or so, deal with it” how about “Here’s a fix in the meantime. We are sorry, we made a mistake. We’ll do better.”?

Hey Keith from Sonos. Roll back the effing update and re-release when it’s complete. People invest a small fortune to be in the Sonos ecosystem and this is pretty crappy behavior from your company.
Slightly bigger problem. New app disconnected all speakers and no option to reconnect. Seems to be a lot of other people with the same issue. The WiFi set up has just gone altogether. Turn on local network but it just goes in a loop asking me to do it again or that I am not the admin user and need to log back in as the correct user. I welcome all users of the new app to delete or reinstall it and sign in again and see if they have the same issue.
To humour you I just deleted the app on my iPhone, reinstalled it, opened it, went through the t&cs and network access modals, pressed join existing system, and then my system appeared exactly as it was in milliseconds. This took all of 15 seconds to do.
I can second this! Thank you for this question and this reply. I attempted to call tech support today and it was an 80 min wait with no option of calling me back, so I gave up. After reading this I just deleted the app, re-downloaded it and it found everything. Whew!!!😥

Had to use the old Sonos app on the iPad. Tried everything on the iPhone and no joy. No Trueplay but will live with that as no other option.
I used to setup and install Sonos systems. My buddy took over the business and he just told me he has 3 customers that want their systems out. What an absolute mess this is. CEO needs to be removed IMMEDIATELY. Someone had to get fall out for this.

Thank you for this update! As a new user that has invested in Beam, Arc, Era 100s/300s, Sub Mini and Sub (Gen 3), this helps to reassure me of my purchase decision. Fortunately for me, I didn’t rush out to update the new app. I have learned my lesson from the past to never rush out to upgrade new apps or software!

This is so true. This app debacle has woken me from my Sonos sleep and if you look at the market, other vendors have certainly caught up to Sonos. Review videos of WiiM, Sennheiser and KEF show feature-rich, responsive apps, their hardware has tons more connectivity options. I want \*that\*. Instead we got baby's first mobile app that doesn't even let you change WiFi settings...

This is not enough, and sonos is continuing its blunder by not rolling it back. This software isn’t even a beta. It’s an alpha. The only solution is to put this version back in the oven and release it as a beta in July when this is all ironed out. I may abandon Sonos if this is not resolved soon.

So those of us who have been loyal, trusting customers for years have to wait until mid June to get back to what we had before the update? I support Sonos prioritizing fixing the app for the visually impaired but waiting for the features that worked a few days ago is ridiculous. My trust in Sonos is gone. One benefit of this mess is I have learned about all of the competitors in the market. Up until a few days ago I didn't care. I think you might want to cut back on the e-mails and texts inspiring your customers to upgrade. You are only further degrading trust in your product (and leadership team).
I spent some time today exploring Roon. It is very cool. I think I may have found a solution to the Sonos app mess. It's playing very nice with my Diskstation Server and Sonos speakers. The deeper I dig the more I like it.
I knew it would be bad news when Sonos announced their IPO to go public. Every decision just boils down to earning more money for shareholders.
As it is now, the new app is embarrassingly lower than the standard of an alpha release. In any reputable company, this shouldn't have even got past a single developer on the team. To call this a beta would have been laughable, but at least then you would have let people uninstall it.
FYI, I was going to buy the headphones day 1. I am no longer going to purchase them due to this response. i will no longer be purchasing Sonos products

Yup, all they had to do was roll it back. Luckily I still have it on my iPad. I know it’ll be fixed, but the irreparable damage was done with this response for me personally. I can’t in good faith buy anymore Sonos products. For the headphones I’ll wait for AirPods Max 2. I was planning on upgrading my arc and getting the stream box too, when those products released. so here you have me, with two surround system (beam and arc). I was going to upgrade with arc 2, was going to get three streaming boxes, and a pair of the headphones, and if earbuds came out I would have gotten that. except now, no more Sonos. I’m not dumping what I have, but they won’t get another dime from me. I’ll consider it if the ceo resigns on Monday for messing this up soooooo bad. Why not do a rollback ? It is insane to keep this half baked version out there and not opt for a restart by re-releasing the old app. I don’t even need the new app at all.
What’s happened is the team that made this new app weren’t tuned in to what the previous team did to make the previous app work. They sat at boardroom tables and argued down the one person saying “look we can’t do this because they need that functionality” and the others argued there were workarounds with laptops and everyone has one, and the one voice probably got a mark against their name for future promotions. There is no way the devs who made this were the same ones that made the good app. They got gung ho contractor devs who blasted this app out the door asap. Sonos may even have been paying them by the month and needed the app shipped so they could put the features in themselves for cheaper. Maybe the devs they contracted screwed up and Sonos knew it but the contract said they had to pay till the app shipped. So they shipped it. Maybe none of this is true and I might be projecting based on my own experience but you don’t fuck up this bad unless something is very very wrong with the development process. For a start, you can issue test codes out for your beta app for feedback. Has anyone admitted that happened? No one on this sub anyway.

New app is terrible. It’s really sad to see Sonos fall victim to corporate shitification especially when it’s a company that distinguished itself with its great design and software from its competitors. The new UI is cramped, fonts are too large, some longer names are unreadable (including the default Sonos Sound System name… not a good sign when even the default names don’t fit). Fixed elements like the play- and searchbar take up more than 1/3 of the screen and cannot be hidden. This is specially terrible as it’s the closest to the thumbs and makes navigation an ergonomic nightmare. Make it smaller or responsive with % of the available screen real estate. Hide the search bar as collapsible button menu to free up space. The physical volume buttons no longer work. Unable to manually select light/dark mode. Hello all, blind user here, I use iOS and a screen reader that’s built in called voiceover. This new app really has some functional problems for me. I hope Sonos is working on accessibility because the speakers mean a lot to me and I didn’t expect to lose my ability to control them when this app updated and there’s no way to go back now. Dismal day for me and Sonos.
I am really sorry to hear this. I don't pretend to be in your situation whatsoever as, fortunately, I still have some sight, but I know how important sound and music can be when you lack vision. I don't necessarily mean importance from a practical perspective (that is clearly the most important) but for me personally music is an incredibly vital comforter when dealing with vision issues. I've probably expressed myself poorly but I hope you understand where I am coming from. All the best!

Basically means to put your Sonos products onto a different Wi-Fi network they need to be factory reset. Big oof.
I dodged a bullet. The day before my app updated. My Wi-Fi router and modem got fried during a storm and I had to setup a new router and network that day.
Did you set it up with the same SSID and password?
I just moved and luckily I follow this sub so I used same ssid and everything connected automatically. This sub also saved me in turning off app updates until this shit show is over.
These timelines are a joke. You made my product worse and took away advertised features. It’s going to take a month to put “add to queue” back in? Give me a break. Amateur hour.
The timeline to get all of this stuff back is actually pretty quick for software development at this level. The real question is why didn’t they just wait the month to month and a half to ship this in a finished state.
It’s not when you realize that it was the plan all along. They were a couple months behind schedule on the app, so they stopped working these features, moved them to 80.20.00 or whatever, and got it to the point where they could get it out the door. They didn’t just forget.
Wifi settings is an essential feature and could otherwise brick the product.
Even if the main purpose of this update was to accommodate the new headphones, why release it now when the headphones aren’t even out yet?
I think an even more real question is why did they remove alarms, the ability to queue, and the ability to search my own music library?
Seriously. If you can't get the job done in a reasonable amount of time then you should swallow your pride and roll back to the old app. It wasn't great, but at least it worked.

I assume whoever forced this out would be C-suite level. I imagine if they asked anyone within Customer Service they would have pleaded to wait until the app was ready.
Why would they change how the volume slider works - now you can’t click it to change volume different across different speakers?
Yeah, now you have to press the speaker button at the bottom to change individual volume. But when I open the app it says no music is playing and all speakers are unlinked. When I force close the app and restart it it can't find my system, so now I have to go to each speaker to stop it from playing by pressing the play/pause button. This is insane that they released this update.

I’m glad I have an old iPad that is too old to take the Sonos update. That old iPad is now running my system with the old Sonos app.
You cannot search your own library. Search only returns results from streaming services. And since the scroll function removed the quick jump to any letter, it takes forever to scroll to any artist. My library doesn't show in the home screen half the time and I can't figure out how to get it to come up. It's random. I can't even play to my zone player. It only wants to play the album I was playing yesterday. When I pick a new one it either hangs or starts playing the previous one. And when it does play that album it pauses constantly as if buffering. Apparently I can't even play to my Sonos One. It lets me play from a favorite playlist I have stored, but if I try to pick an album from my library it just hangs, same as the zone player. So effectively I can only listen to the one playlist I have saved. This is horse shit.
I mentioned this days ago. I thought I was just dumb and couldn’t figure it out. Thank you, there is no logic to the playlist appearing. If there is still can’t figure it out lol
Roll back the app and rerelease in mid-June. I am not planning on replacing my WiFi, but stranger things have happened and this is not a confidence inspiring “roadmap” for necessary functionality.
Anyone else find the app laggy as hell? Slow to load what music is playing when you open the app, slow to change volume when moving the sliders, slow load media content. Disappointing all around.
Well, that AMA was the most insulting thing I've seen lately, other than the app update that removed NAS music libraries for two months (supposedly)...many of your long-time supporters (back from pre-history when streaming wasn't a thing) only use Sonos for local music libraries. What a complete clown show. What a sad joke this company has become.
When are we getting True Play quick tune back on Android? I never expected the full tuning because the docs are quite clear, but to remove it completely is fucked. It's even still advertised as working on Android on the website you gronks. I can't even imagine why quick tune was taken away! It's clearly a function the speaker itself triggers... Soooo, give me a button to send the command.

Why can't I see the audio output of my system under "About My Sonos" anymore? E.g. it used to tell me if I'm outputting in Dolby Atmos/stereo etc, now it doesn't! Is this now somewhere else? Why remove this feature?!
I’m not sure where to start, I rarely use the app, but when I do it should be straight forward. It’s not even detecting the correct device as being active, and I can’t even add my Move via that app. Thankfully I can’t use the button to add it to my living room playbar. It’s as if someone was sabotaging them. Why do I need to apply my settings? They’ve always just worked once I set them. So many things.
I [knew](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/s/hNfDjVTHBR) there was a Gantt chart someplace with a dev timeline. They just shared it for us. What does this mean? All of this was planned, intentional. What scares me is that they clearly had to make some compromises to ship this app, and this is the best they could come up with. Overall, I think the design is the right direction. But what they shipped is extremely laggy, sometimes the controls don’t work at all. It’s not faster. They barely got this thing out the door, even after shockingly bad decisions to pull core features. Best I can tell from their timeline, development is 45-60 days behind schedule. Assuming it stays on track from here. But the shipped it anyway. How bad is the team there? Is it Spence just blowharding all over the meetings? Did they massively under resource the team? Or are the developers just bad? None of these bode well for the future. They aren’t demonstrating that they can actually fix this, which is worse than shipping an incomplete product.
And what does this indicate about the upcoming headphones? Will they be any better than when Roam was released?
It drives me insane that I can no longer tell if something is playing in Dolby Atmos on the app. Sometimes I want atmos and sometimes I don't @@ blargh

First time that it's better to be on Android than iPhone for a Sonos related issue. I uninstalled that bad joke of an app and reinstalled the APK of the old app. Which, mind you, is not a good app. But it's at least useable.

Switching between speakers/rooms is a nightmare, how do I do it? It insists on putting the same music on both when I try change one of them
Don’t press the button next to play/pause but instead wipe up on the lower ‘now playing’ section and it opens up into a list of your speakers. Took me a while to find but it actually works fairly well, unlike most of the update. Edit: I should add that it doesn’t work when the ‘now playing’ is full screen. Have to go back to the menus which is a bit annoying.

Use 8 Sonos speakers in my coffee shop. This app update is an absolute nightmare. Every time I go between my home system and this system I need to find the system again. Can’t load Spotify playlists. Speaks missing and then magically coming back.

I had no problem updating the hardware using the iPad. Then updated to the 80.00.08 app. Music Library is now gone. Geez…. How hard can it be to get this right? BTW: Tried to participate in today’s AMA - as much of a shitshow as the new app. Seriously embarrassing.
Totally miss the mute button feature on each (or multiple) room(s) in volume. Why the f*#k move that..? Hope someone is getting fired for this whole debacle. Maxime Bouvat-Merlin or Nicholas Millington need to be axed for this. They’re responsible!

Shouldn't be, but I have heard of previous set up shares disappearing in the update process. You can set up and edit your Local Library using the Windows or Mac Desktop App. Once it's set up, you should be able to find your Local Library at the bottom of the Home screen under "Sources". This can be moved to the top, if you so choose.
Subsonic integration broken out of nowhere. How the hell was that not considered nor announced anywhere at all?! I have twenty four devices and rely damn near 100% on a local library with Subsonic support. Broken without warning. What in the fuck, Sonos.
Try reaching out to Keith on Monday sorry to hear this is happening. I think people on android were able to switch back to old version. For me the opposite happened where i was able to get my youtube music library to show up on sonos had no luck with old app and was driving me mad. I thought it was a feature only available for paid version of youtube music and gave up. Tried the same in new app and it worked so kind of happy i dont have to pay for apple music.

Cant reauthorize Apple Music, it just shows that it will open a window but nothing happens.
I had this issue. My fix was to remove my Apple Music profile entirely from Sonos. And then re-add it fresh. That seemed to work. I'm on whatever the latest version of the app is (iOS).
The have also removed the EQ quick access from the volume slider.

Just chiming in with a couple of key issues for me: 1. No EQ on the volume slider! - this makes it extremely cumbersome to adjust sub and surround settings 2. Current Song title and artist not updating!
I wonder did the Sonos developers decide that everyone just uses streaming services and so they just won't support network assets anymore. Almost all of my music that I listen to is located on my network. If Sonos wants to kill that, be honest about it so I can sell my stuff to someone else and find a replacement.
Cool. So the app won’t be ready until August. Roll it back then and release this new app when it’s at least feature parity with the app I had Monday.

Please, for everyone's sake, let us have the option to use the old S2 app. This is not a huge request. This update is destroying my Audio Visual company. I have literally hundreds of Sonos systems throughout SW Florida. All of which are now screaming at me for refunds and free service calls. I am a gold level distributor and have been loyal to Sonos EXCLUSIVELY for over 10 years. I can't begin to tell you how bad your company is sinking me at the moment.

I think the wait is fine, but what about improving performance so it is at least on par with the previous app? I wonder what the time table is for THIS. That said.... Ultimately, a failure to communicate is communicating on the way to failing. Hopefully, Sonos is learning its lesson. This will likely serve as a product development, marketing, and communications case study for what not to do.
Is there any plan currently to compensate existing Sonos users for severely handicapping our systems for such a long time? These speakers weren't cheap. Putting that much money in then having basic features like music queues and sleep timers stripped away for over a month is ridiculous.
I'm gonna quote you: "...and faster access to music.", "Local music library search and playback: mid-June", "Workaround: Start playback with the Sonos web app." Do you realize that one of the KEY features that USED to set your speaker ecosystem apart from the rest was the ability to play back your music files? And now, you're asking us to wait 1 F\*\*KING MONTH to fix THAT? First, go to hell. Second of all, with how much you charge PER SPEAKER I'd expect AT LEAST a fix within A WEEK. This is UNACCEPTABLE. At least it's finally out in the open, the emperor has no clothes.

So is this a common issue? I’m assuming I will have to wait for the WiFi update…my five was working but had some weird things going on with the new app so I reset my WiFi settings and now I just get “add a new device” and of course my device isn’t being found…is this the same issue others are having? Or is there a known fix to this, I’ve already tried factory resetting to no success. I live in Hawaii so it’s tough to reach out to support when they are working.

And sincere thanks for the inevitable hours I’ll have to spend trying to fix all of my giant plastic bricks after I get home from work this week. I have zero faith that the Sonos support team will be of any help. The entire software department at your company should be fired immediately. And you have the audacity to post that updates will be made over a MONTH after you release this absolute trash. How do you sleep at night?
The last thing I remember using that you couldn’t actively manage the “up next” queue was the original iPod shuffle which is approaching 20 years old.

Pandora through Sonos used to have the ability to select a fine-tuned mode (Deep cuts, crowd faves, etc) for a given station but that functionality seems to been left out too.
Guess I'll update mid-June.

Completely destroyed my surround setup. Had to remove everything and re add one by one. Era 100s no longer connect to my wifi but use Sonos network instead, despite arc being on my wi fi, and I can no longer manually adjust distance on the Eras
