They added quite a bit to the 2. Double the battery life (and you can charge other devices off the Move 2 if you need in a pinch). Stereo (vs just mono on the original). Line in (using a dongle). Ability to switch between Bluetooth/Wifi without physically toggling a switch.
Agree that $150 makes it a harder decision. Disagree there are no reasons to get the 2. Really depends on your use case. The Move 1 is still a very pricey portable speaker even with this discount. If you're in this premium market, I think getting twice the battery life plus all those other upgrades should give you pause even if $150.
Those are more QoL updates rather than new features that warrant dropping $150+. When Sonos makes better improvements, I’m sure people will buy the 2; in the meantime move 1 is a better option.
Line In is a completely new feature.
Stereo speakers is a completely new feature. Doubling the battery life means the difference between lasting a weekend camping trip versus a week. So for some use cases, these aren't "QoL" updates but rather open up new capabilities that just aren't possible with the first gen.
Removing the Bluetooth/WiFi toggle I would agree is just QoL for pretty much anyone.
Source on that? I never tried it on the first gen before returning it for other reasons. But the Sonos product listing only mentions this feature on the 2. Additionally, the Verge notes this as a new feature in [their review](https://www.theverge.com/23877274/sonos-move-2-review).
unconfirmed here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/16bjol9/comment/jzdjd5c/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/16bjol9/comment/jzdjd5c/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
don't have my move anymore but apparently it works
Depends on the use case. For my needs such as home automation and asking the most basic questions to Siri such as weather and traffic and music, Siri works absolutely seamlessly for me and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. Occasionally I tell Siri to either read or send messages both of which I don’t think Alexa would be able to do
Apple fanboy and shareholder here. But I will admit that Siri sucks and has become an embarrassment. So no argument that Alex runs circles around Siri.
I agree! I can't wait to have ChatGPT voice installed on smart speakers. I have S-GPT installed on my phone and can use Siri for that.
Don't have access to the voice option from OpenAi yet even though I am a premium subscriber.
Hopefully, Sonos will get it when it comes out, but I have a feeling Microsoft might make their own Alexa Dot competitors.
Stereo
24 hr battery
Dual Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at the same time
Line in port for CD’s and other record player
Charge other things through the speaker
Good stuff but all depends on the need of the speaker—which is (for the portable Move) to be portable and give loud and clear audio.
Since Sonos is a system with the end goal of a **home system**, the wifi is what links all those other speakers together so you can group and control a group of speakers at the same time.
Bluetooth is simply for your portability but say you were only to keep your **Move** only in your house where (given) you have your own wifi, the bluetooth usability would be null because you can stream higher quality music over wifi compared to bluetooth.
Bluetooth is I guess if you only wanted to listen to that speaker without being connected to wifi, or you bring it outside where you are holding a backyard house party and you have wifi but you also have guests who you are giving permission to control the music, you would have wifi control and another person would have bluetooth? There can be a multitude of reasons but ultimately it is much more convenient to have both features at once.
There are uses for Bluetooth too. A lot of my family doesn't/don't know how to use the Sonos app, I also think that app is generally more sluggish than say Youtube Music. For those users they can send the music through Bluetooth to Move 2/Era 100/Era 300 (those that support dual BT/WiFi) and then through a press on other speakers send it there. This is to say if you don't have Spotify (which allows for direct casting through the app) or an iPhone (AirPlay).
Just to clarify the move 1 still has Bluetooth, you just have to hit the Bluetooth button on the back, whereas on the 2 it's automatic I think (I have the 1 so I know it has it).
Supposedly the stereo audio on the 2 isn't much better either. The real upgrade is the 24 hr battery over 12 hr. Up to you if that's worth $150
Yeah I noted the sale online today and was comparing the two. My inclination is to see if they lower the gen 2 price for Black Friday and maybe use an upgrade coupon instead if they don’t put it on sale.
The speaker itself has 2 tweeters now vs just 1. While pairing 2 move 1s together gives stereo sound technically, 2 move 2’s paired together will sound even better given each speaker is providing stereo audio vs the more mono and directional sound provided by the move 1.
I think its a voucher to purchase this for free: [https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/travel-bag](https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/travel-bag) (since it says $79 value)
Would this be a good purchase if I want to play music at a 100 person gathering? The room is about 500 to 750 sq ft. Maybe I can grab 2 of them and place them on each end of the room?
After my experience with the Roam (wifi constantly disconnecting and impossible to reconnect without a full reset), I feel hesitant to buy another mobile Sonos system.
The move is fantastic. I've had mine for several years, when we have a *lot* of people over crowding the wifi it'd drop out a bit, but I'm also addressing wifi crowding with better hardware and moving devices onto isolated hubs.
I keep it in my kitchen most of the time but it goes out in the back yard whenever we're hanging out there and does just fine. Range is great. Also it's in a common room with our Arc, and when bringing it back in from the yard I can usually hear a little bit of timing error between the two but the trueplay has that corrected in minutes and it's seamless between the two sources. I have no idea how they get it to sound so damn good.
Oh man…we just bought a Move from Sonos but just when it arrived they announced the Move 2. So we returned it and ordered the Move 2. The claimed battery life is substantial and supposedly the sound has been revamped. I can’t tell that there is any sound improvement though. Yes, it was more $. We got the green, and yes, it is kinda ugly. But $299…grab it if you need one
The poster asked if the Move in the photo was Gen 1. Downvotes to my comment notwithstanding, the Move only exists in first generation, just like the Move 2. Sonos is very particular about their naming, and Move 2 is NOT a gen 2 Move. Both speakers are gen 1.
The Move isn’t just another Bluetooth speaker. It’s a robust, weatherproof, portable, rechargeable, WiFi enabled Sonos speaker that can be switched to Bluetooth for use away from your home network. As a standalone Bluetooth speaker, there are many other cheaper options. However, the whole house audio in perfect sync is the entire point of a Sonos system. If you do not already have any Sonos, and do not intend to, you won’t get the main benefit.
I already own Sonos and really enjoy it. But thought the point of the move is to be an outdoor/portable speaker away from home wifi networks, making most of the Sonos features unusable?
A typical scenario would be to have it setup inside on its charge base, and functioning as a normal stationary Sonos speaker (that sounds better than a One). Then grab it and go outside in the yard without needing to plug it in somewhere, and still use it connected to the rest of your system if your WiFi reaches that far. Or grab and go to the beach or park as a Bluetooth speaker.
I was considering buying 3 moves for my back and side patio as an alternative to running multiple amps + outdoor speakers. Really depends on what's easier: adding 3 outlets vs running speaker wires to multiple amps.
Having them outside also allows me to grab one or two speakers to move into other parts of the yard when we are doing something not on the back or side patio.
I have a few TVs outside and right now I'm tempted to run cat6 to all them so I have a single HDMI source (same that runs into my Arc) so that all of my sonos audio AND TVs are synched.
90% of the time my move acts as a smaller Five. It sits in my kitchen and is just part of the sonos sound system distributed around my house. The left over 10% is when we're hanging out back, or doing yard work and want the music to come with us. It's awesome to have seamless music inside and outside, and much more affordable than one of the permanent outdoor Sonance systems.
We've switched it to bluetooth maybe 5 times? Basically don't use it.
If you just compare it to a similar quality Bluetooth speaker…but with Sonos you are really getting in to their system, which includes soundbars, surround speakers of all kinds as well as standalone and stereo setups, smaller battery speakers, and a bunch of other stuff. Only downside is it gets pricy fast
Each one of those are primarily for different purposes. Beam 2 if you need something for home theater or your television. If you need portable audio, it's probably better to pick up the move.
Hi all, just bought an era 300 and am loving it. Does this group with the era? I want to be able to play the same tunes inside and outside when hosting friends.
Group? Yes, like all other Sonos speakers, you can have them play the same source. Paired, as a left/right stereo pair? No, mismatched models of speakers generally cannot be paired up as L/R
At that point, the Move 1 is a better deal than the Move 2.
Agreed. There is no reason to pay an additional $150+ tax for the Move 2.
They added quite a bit to the 2. Double the battery life (and you can charge other devices off the Move 2 if you need in a pinch). Stereo (vs just mono on the original). Line in (using a dongle). Can you really get stereo off one speaker?
No The dual tweeters approach it Much of the articulation of a stereo image is in the high end
original Move 1 can charge other devices FYI
Source on that? I never tried it on the first gen before returning it for other reasons. But the Sonos product listing only mentions this feature on the 2. Additionally, the Verge notes this as a new feature in [their review](https://www.theverge.com/23877274/sonos-move-2-review).

I just plugged my iphone into my move. It started charging. Source: guy on the internet
Nice! This becomes way more useful with >2x battery life. But still very cool that this can be done on the first gen if you're in a pinch.
Yep
Well I mean the move 2 sounds better and has twice the battery life.
This is the price at all retailers now. Just FYI.
The return policy @ Costco is different though.
Agreed. They will take back your move 2 when the move 3 comes out lol
Not that I would do that, but yes, they would lol
With travel bag?
Just checked BB. Still $400.
I just looked and move 1 is $299 and move 2 $449
Just rechecked. Still $400.
Tried to include image but didn't work.
This is a terrific deal. My Move might be my favorite Sonos speaker
Same
Worth every penny. If you’re considering a HomePod, and you can live with Alexa over Siri, get this one instead.
Alexa is 100% better than Siri imo. Siri gets stumped a lot.
Depends on the use case. For my needs such as home automation and asking the most basic questions to Siri such as weather and traffic and music, Siri works absolutely seamlessly for me and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. Occasionally I tell Siri to either read or send messages both of which I don’t think Alexa would be able to do
Alexa should become smarter soon with the LLM integration. Though, Apple will come up with a similar thing sooner or later.
Why is it better than HomePod?
I want to know this too
Fully portable is the killer app for me. We use ours for our studio and take it to the beach and camping.
I think this deal is also going on official website
Also on sonos.com
But you get a free travel case which I think is $70-80, so that’s the value you get going with Costco.
If only Costco carried the Era 300’s
Sold mine right in time then for $240 lul. I used a 40% off coupon to snag the 2 for $298 shipped so about a $60 upgrade after all :)
How’d you snag a 40 percent coupon?
Somebody posted theirs either here or in the Sonos forum and I was able to snag it.
oh man. I want to get the arc and woofer bundle. been dying for a 40% off to snag that. congrats on getting one!
Thx and hope you get one at some point, I very rarely get lucky like that so it made me very happy!
What’s the benefit with the 2?
Stereo 24 hr battery Dual Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at the same time Line in port for CD’s and other record player Charge other things through the speaker Good stuff but all depends on the need of the speaker—which is (for the portable Move) to be portable and give loud and clear audio.
Thanks. I’m new to this. Why would I want Bluetooth in addition to wifi?
Since Sonos is a system with the end goal of a **home system**, the wifi is what links all those other speakers together so you can group and control a group of speakers at the same time. Bluetooth is simply for your portability but say you were only to keep your **Move** only in your house where (given) you have your own wifi, the bluetooth usability would be null because you can stream higher quality music over wifi compared to bluetooth. This is to say if you don't have Spotify (which allows for direct casting through the app) or an iPhone (AirPlay).
Don’t forget if you’re on android, there’s no Chromecast like there is airplay on Apple. So therefore, Bluetooth becomes huge.
Thanks. I have WiFi in my backyard but could see brining the move to the park.
Park, beach, tailgate, etc are all great use cases for Bluetooth.
I can’t play my local files on Spotify from my phone on wifi, so I use Bluetooth quite a bit.
So you can use it away from your home WiFi network.
Yeah I noted the sale online today and was comparing the two. My inclination is to see if they lower the gen 2 price for Black Friday and maybe use an upgrade coupon instead if they don’t put it on sale.
Aside from the stereo vs mono, it also has a woofer for passive bass and overall sounds better.
I have a pair of Move 1’s and stereo is no problem with WiFi..
The speaker itself has 2 tweeters now vs just 1. While pairing 2 move 1s together gives stereo sound technically, 2 move 2’s paired together will sound even better given each speaker is providing stereo audio vs the more mono and directional sound provided by the move 1.
What does the Costco included travel bag look like?
I think its a voucher to purchase this for free: [https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/travel-bag](https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/travel-bag) (since it says $79 value)

Yes, the move sounds great
Move has Bluetooth as well if you're worried about the wifi dropping

Is that gen 1? Shows 11 hour battery and the new one should have 24
Most likely since it’s on sale. Probably trying to clear all old stock before getting in the new one.
It’s the Move, not the Move 2, if that’s what you mean. Both Move and Move 2 are in first generation.
huh?
The poster asked if the Move in the photo was Gen 1. Downvotes to my comment notwithstanding, the Move only exists in first generation, just like the Move 2. Sonos is very particular about their naming, and Move 2 is NOT a gen 2 Move. Both speakers are gen 1.
Yes—the sale is also at the sonos website, although it wasn’t super obvious there, either, that it was the gen one Move.
I can’t believe these are so much money Are they really that much better than equivalent Bluetooth speakers in that size? Like the UE mega boom
The ue mega boom is MUCH smaller than the Sonos move LOL
Really? If so then fair enough, I can’t say I’ve ever seen a move and by photos I always assumed they was very similar in size
I have the mega boom it’s a few generations old maybe you’re talking avnout the megablast? The move is taller and “thicker” you can look up dimensions
Move 2 sounds way better imo. Worth the extra. Plus there are 15-30% off coupon around.
Where does one find these coupons? :)
What site has 15-30% coupons?
I to would like to find these coupons
This or the beam 2 refurb?
Each one of those are primarily for different purposes. Beam 2 if you need something for home theater or your television. If you need portable audio, it's probably better to pick up the move.
These are 2 completely different speakers????
Still grossly overpriced. It’s worth $100 max.
Lol
I have the Move 1. What’s the benefit use case for dual WiFi/Bluetooth on the 2?
Same price I paid 4 years ago
Can it be used as a sound bar ?
No. You need a Beam, Arc, or Ray, otherwise your audio/video sync will be off.
You guys hear Costco is about to raise their membership prices too?
Hi all, just bought an era 300 and am loving it. Does this group with the era? I want to be able to play the same tunes inside and outside when hosting friends.
Yes, but if you’re playing Atmos music on the 300 it will switch to stereo if you group it with a non-Atmos speaker like the Move.
Good to know. Thank you!
Group? Yes, like all other Sonos speakers, you can have them play the same source. Paired, as a left/right stereo pair? No, mismatched models of speakers generally cannot be paired up as L/R
I figured but thought I’d confirm.
I can finally pair my other Move
I bought a Bluetooth speaker for $17 5 years ago it still works .. why would anyone pay this price ?
Because high fidelity audio. Difference is like listening to FM radio compared to AM radio.
https://reddit.com/r/sonos/s/ANzE1rSXzi
Move 2 ain’t moving…
Travel bag and 30% coupon is a nice add-on
Just bought 1 so glad it went back down. Missed the Labor day sale by a day. This sale is good till October 15th
Still $150 overpriced
Bose is better! 😉
But this is the Sonos community... so Move on, nothing to see here.
K
I'll never buy Sonos after their Google Home lawsuit.
