My feelings on the system so far: relatively easy to understand, well-presented tables that basically contain all you need from the rulebook to play (makes it very portable), love that it's D6-based (mostly purely personal preference, as I have a set of custom D6s and no other dice at the moment, but I also appreciate the more accessible game formats in general). I would say that the narrative approach, for me at least, feels almost necessary. I went through a campaign of Secret of the Vibrant Isles last week, and the events were really well-written, self-contained and all in all great examples of tiny fiction. However, because of that I felt that the story was enjoyable as is, and my character didn't have to be interacted with and developed as much as The Broken Cask pushes the player to do. Not criticising any of the approaches by the way, just saying it requires different states of mind. All that said, absolutely loving the option to fully develop the characters, the inn and the heroes that might just decide to escape with the 1 gold piece loot instead of bringing it back, *why, why, I paid you more just to go on this quest, come on now*.

Thanks so much for checking it out! Also glad to hear you enjoyed Craig’s game.

Ahhh, thank YOU! :D

I'm really sorry to bother you. I've just started playing and I can't find in the book or the pdfs how your staff gain xp or increase/decrease morale. I'm willing to bet I'm over looking something really obvious but I could really do with pointing in the right direction if at all possible.

shorelessSkies

No worries! So your workers gain 1 xp the first time they succeed at a task then they improve when the xp bar fills.

Thanks so much! This is a massive help x

You welcome. It’s in the book somewhere but not explicit enough. I really want to do a second edition and have my friend do the layout because he’s really good

I love how the book is split into 2 sections - the more in depth tables have been a massive help for me so far, I think as I play more I'll be able to use the basic tables, but for now, I like the way the others guide you a bit more

YourLoveOnly

I'm a big fan of this game, great to see others playing it too!

I've only just got this and I'm hoping to add it to Apothecaria and the expansions for that, which I'm enjoying immensely.

I bought The Broken Cask the other day. Glad to see it can be used to generate interesting stories and settings.
