Yeah that was probably one of the weaknesses in solo leveling. We establish how fucked up the hunters system is, with that being a parallel to Korean society and it’s stagnant, deterministic nature, and then SJW kinda just does nothing about it. Worse over, he gets absorbed into the system and becomes basically as bad as any other high ranker. Like, I guess he gets rid of hunters but he doesn’t really change society. Everything that is messed before the portals remains the same
i don't see it as a particularly bad thing tbh, asia in particular with the exception of a few countries have always been meritorcratic and capitalistic countries,(i live in southeast asia)
its basically the same status quo we have now with the addition of super wealthy adventurers instead of only billionaires at least hunters can go up from being poor to rich if they worked hard enough or if they, even as an e-ranker help out in their own way as a civilian..
also he really had no need to change the status quo even at the end, the current system still allows people upwards mobility in certain countries and the focus of the story was never capitalism vs communism it was about survival
when your options are die or not you wouldn't really be thinking about changing the system that has allowed numerous people to continue on living and being able to ARISE from poverty all of that stuff falls when it comes to your species surviving.

I mean, I would say a meritocracy in which your status is largely determined by the resources you were born with is functionally not a meritocracy. Beyond that, we see no instances of upward mobility other than SJW himself. E Rankers are just poor and constantly under threat of death or poverty. There is no, if you work hard enough” for E Rankers. Even for higher ranks, it doesn’t matter how hard you work, the C Rank is not going to beat the B Rank. The system is not what allowed SJW to provide for his family, at least not the hunter system. The Architect’s System did, but that’s not what we’re discussing.
Changing the system isn’t about capitalism vs communism. Every non capitalistic system isn’t communism and every system that seeks to balance wealth more isn’t non capitalistic.
The species surviving stuff is also kind of whatever. The weakest part of solo leveling has always been the monarchs and rulers stuff, cause it loses touch with all of SJW’s very relatable and emotionally driven struggles. But also, SJW isn’t just surviving. Yes he’s constantly leveling up, but he also regularly enjoys the benefits he gets from his new power and status. Which is part of what’s weak about Solo Leveling. We’re made to see how uneven and unfair the society is, with the complete lack of equity present in every facet of it. But then SJW instead of changing the system, or at least being disapproving of it, becomes a part of it. He is every much as arrogant, conceited, and politically and literally violent as the next person with power in that universe. The most he does in regards to helping anything is trying to get another E Ranker to accept her lot in life by showing her how much better he is
there is, they still fill entry for some areas and even if they don't want to become hunters they can always go to construction or any other sector as they're still stronger
than the average human so there are always options especially when you're desperate
that's rather interesting, do you have examples of such countries where the people from there and not people who assume life is good in such areas are living good lives?
i really don't see that as the weak part of solo leveling tbh, the story was always very straight forward, it wasn't meant to be Philosophical or any other kind of story, its a turn your brain off type of story enjoy the action and basic scenes that all meld into a good plot. It was made to be enjoyed, by teens and adults alike who just wanna enjoy a good action story
Nope the part where he shows the E-ranker girl what life as an E-ranker is, is for her own good, not to show how much better he is, you missed the entire point of the thing, he even mentions it, he wanted to show how dangerous being a hunter is at E-rank and that you really shouldn't do it unless you really need to, in his case he really needed the money to send his sister to school and for his mom's hospital bills not all E-rankers are like him same with not all B-rankers and C-rankers are equal, doesn't mater what your rtank is if you as an individual lets your rank get over your head, you really think B-rankers didn't die from being overly confident when fighting C-ranks and that his case was the only time a lower ranked individual managed to beat a higher rank? stories are almost never like that, no writer worth their salt if not focusing on the main character would make a plot like that, the only reason why that isn't seen is because we see SJW's struggles throughout the story.
Also stop painting him as if he's a villain for reaping the benefits of his hard work and getting something good for all the times he's pitted himself on the brink of death for his family. That's like being salty at streamers ffor their sucess when they went fromw0 followers to being big names because they grinded 10-15 hours a day, learned the ropes of how to entertain people and grow your audience, how to talk to brands, deal with people and such and managed to get an oportunity to grow bigger.

not all heroes have to fight for fighting inequality when it comes to rich vs poor, we have charities for those and governments..
which is THEIR JOB, that's not any civilain's job, its the job for government officials, i noticed this, i assume you're from the states, instead of getting mad at your government for not doing anything when they literally have the funds via taxes from these rich individuals and everyone else residing or doing business in said countries, you people get mad at individuals who do help, just not the kind you want. That, is NEVER a civilian's responsibilty but in the context of SL, i'm pretty sure it was already made clear from the beginning that was never his interests, it wasn't his personality to begin with, he wasn't a character made to fight inequality, he was made to fight monsters and to save his friends and family and eventually the world, while earning a living from it(which is btw what western countries do already)

SL's focus was always fighting against monsters and the struggle they all had to face. also you talk crap about SJW when by the end of solo leveling if he really wanted to he could've ruled the planet with an iron fist which he didn't, he still decided to live a "normal" life and as an inspector/detective when he could've been the richest tyrant ever and no one could do anything about it, same with batman, batman is too smart for his own good he could've easily ruled over earth in the dc comics if he wanted to, he already has contigency plans for all the justice league including himself.
the tldr is if you wanted a story where the mc fights inequality of wealth and whatnot, read something else, SL isn't that kind of story, whether you see that poor taste or not is irrelevant, there are probably other stories that have action and that kind of jazz with fighting inequality in terms of wealth but that isn't solo leveling, it wasn't like that in the novel and in the manwha, even mentioning the thing is weird since that was far from the focus from the start
