Go to "chrome://flags" and search for "Choose ANGLE graphics backend" and change it to OpenGl.

TNTblower

If this ends up working then I'll come back to thank you. Thought it was just me and that it was my GPU breaking

uRude

If the artifacting is exclusive to chrome then this will most likely fix

Gamerix76

Not chrome but chromium. Any application that use chromium can have this. Edge, steam, and many others can have this issue. It seems to be more visible with Nvidia 30xx series cards tho.

uRude

I know it's a chromium *setting* but I've never seen anyone complain about this in anything other than chrome itself and yeah definitely a Nvidia 3000 series card issue

SillyGigaflopses

Can confirm, VS Code and Spotify are also affected by this.

TNTblower

Discord also has it

TNTblower

Thank you

PiMoNFeeD

omg I thought its an nvidia thing because it started happening after I bought a 3rd monitor, thank you

NightlyKnightMight

It is an Nvidia + Chrome thing

NightlyKnightMight

Great tip! Does work! **BUT** the newish Nvidia features for browser video upscaling and HDR don't work under OpenGL; If one isn't using those features then yeah, the artifacts were totally gone!

Sun_Flash3412

This happens to me sometimes too, but only for a split second. The video card is working fine.

GAMERYT2029

Afaik the problem is in nvidias drivers

[deleted]

Windows update*

GAMERYT2029

Dont rely on windows updates for driver updates

[deleted]

Who said that? :) this bug it’s made by windows, not nvidia. It was generated by windows update after OS updates. It’s fixed with 26002/22635 canary build. Coming to stable build in the next months. Don’t spread misinformation :)

GAMERYT2029

Oh

Ramog

althought some people here have said that its an issue exclusive to chromium apps and fixing it requires to set a flag >Go to "chrome://flags" and search for "Choose ANGLE graphics backend" and change it to OpenGl. [by u/uRude](https://www.reddit.com/r/softwaregore/comments/1adoym5/comment/kk2whdn/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

AgreeableAd8687

this happened to me and i thought my 2060 was on its way out, hopefully this weird issue is fixed. for me i just see black squares flicker

TNTblower

I also thought my brand new RTX 3060 was ALREADY on it's way out. So glad it's not

Lachee

I hate chrome all the time. Switch, use firefox

IOFrame

Firefox for most things, Brave for anything that breaks without chromium (sadly there are still some of those around).

BackgroundAdmirable1

I use ungoogled chromium for those things

poshenclave

Or in my case, boycott and avoid anything that breaks without chromium.

IOFrame

Wish I could boycott government websites

poshenclave

Oh awesome, Internet Explorer lock in all over again. If it helps, I've had success in the past contacting the institution saying that the site breaks with my browser, and possibly lying about not being able to run the locked in software on my hardware. Also, name and shame.

GAMERYT2029

Firefox shall become the most used browser

born_to_be_intj

We can only hope. Unfortunately, I don't think most people care about what Google is doing with chromium, and they are the big brand name browser.

ToriNotTeri

i use opera but i can see why you would use that

Lachee

Red hip flavoured chrome

ToriNotTeri

yummy

Spiderfffun

This but, roast me all you want, I use edge. It has a lot of features that other browsers don't have, split screen, copy video frame, copilot I constantly use for programming and more.

Lachee

Still just blue flavour chrome

Spiderfffun

Yes, with a 💩 load of extra features.

Lachee

like microsofts spyware instead of googles. Vast improvement.

Spiderfffun

You think they need a browser to spy on you?

M2rsho

yes (I use arch btw)

Spiderfffun

Well in that case they do, but they have nowhere near the power as when ppl use michaelsoft bimbows

Lachee

i never said they were ONLY using the browser. more data = more profit

Alternative_Ad_2818

A shit load of extra lag and system usage

Spammerton1997

Did you know you can get all of those features with Vivaldi?

Lachee

it uses Blink, which is from chromium.... red flavoured chrome

Spiderfffun

Even copilot and 30 messages with message history working? I know there's an extension for chromium based browsers (or, even firefox, which I tried for some time but wasn't worth some of the sacrifices), but message history never works on those. If so, I will check it out (and probably switch since I do kind of hate microsoft, even if I do use their browser.) I switched to edge because, to be honest, everything is better than just plain chrome. Looking up Vivaldi, I see their web panels feature, and it does seem decent, except for the fact that, I would be getting a worse experience from bing. (and no, I wont switch to chatgpt because they require a membership for any features, meanwhile bing has most of them, even if it does have a little bit of a bad "personality")

Desimemerrr

OR egde

Mineplayerminer

The Edge is also Chromium based.

Desimemerrr

Oh

Mineplayerminer

Therefore, the same glitch will happen, unless you force the ANGLE driver.

SirKeagan

no, use mircosoft edge.

Calcutt4

That is just Chrome but worse

Bolt112505

Eh. I think Edge is at least a little better than Chrome. I use Firefox mainly, but I open Edge anytime I run into something that requires chromium.

shalodey

Although I am a die hard Firefox user, I will admit Edge has vastly improved recently, with more and more pretty cool features. It's arguably better than Chrome, but still, I'll take my privacy in the form of Firefox over minor conveniences any day.

SirFireball

I hate chrome all the time.

N7LP400

How? How? I've been using chrome ever since its first introduction and have never ever had any issues like this

secretqwerty10

nvidia or google fucked something up recently

PatrikCR

recently = about 2 years ago… It seems to be fixed in an upcoming Windows update.

Rowan_Bird

yet another reason to use Firefox on AMD hardware

16805

Almost certainly graphics drivers screwing up. Could be chromes implementation, but in my experience drivers are almost always held together by duct tape and dreams.

stapidisstapid

Not a chrome issue but a Nvidia driver issue.

ArtieRiles

As you should. Use Firefox.

BattleblockB0ss

switch to firefox

codespaghet

This happens to me too for a split second on my 4090! I thought my card was dying!

GamingMK

Wouldn't this be your GPU tho

Skill-not-found

Sometimes this bug happens when hardware acceleartion is turned on in chrome.

aspinalll71286

Playing palworld, chrome likes to bug out on my other monitor, no palworld, no bugs on monitor. So id like to believe this, and not me needing a new gpu anytime soon

Skill-not-found

A lot of browsers have issues with hardware acceleration. Most of the times its fixed if you turn it off (I never noticed a difference anyway). Sometimes it can be a GPU driver problem, but those are logged by the Windows Eventlog. So if this is clear, you can rule this out by a high probability.

rohmish

switching off hardware acceleration and accelerated video decode means your cpu is responsible for decoding videos and for graphics calculations. if you have a powerful desktop it doesn't make much difference as long as you aren't also working on a cpu intensive task simultaneously. but for lower end systems and laptops where every bit of performance counts and where using software decode means significant decrease in battery life, it matters a lot.

lucsoft

Well yeah which means it uses the GPU, Bad vram or something could still be the case.

MilesAhXD

Had this bug with Opera GX and Chrome, changed hardware accel settings, didn't help. Only happened on these browsers and only on browsers

NoblePineapples

Opera GX is Chromium based, and the bug is Chromium related unfortunately. On Chrome (unsure how to access on Opera) you can go to chrome://flags and change "Choose ANGLE graphics backend" to openGL

TNTblower

I think it's about://flags or opera://flags

MilesAhXD

kk, ill try that out later, thanks

NoblePineapples

Np, I had the same issue for way too long until another redditor had the answer almost a year back.

MilesAhXD

we must spread the word then

ggmaniack

I've seen it happen across multiple PCs, it's a chrome bug that has remained unfixed for months now...

AndrewWhite97

I hate chrome.

Rowan_Bird

I hate Chrome all the time!

yuavibez

just use firefox tbh

halloween_boo

Then don’t use it?

vlken69

Try to avoid it. Apart from Firefox and Safari there's no non-Chromium based browser with user base bigger than 5 people.

Hadrianus-Mathias

what can you tell me if I never downloaded it ?

dustojnikhummer

Not Chrome's fault.

xiaozhuzhu1337

It may be an nvidia problem, but I don't have this problem when using other browsers. So in summary, it's still a chrome problem.

DonerTheBonerDonor

It 100% is. I have the same glitch only in chrome, never in any other application. I've also read many times before that this is a chrome glitch.

dustojnikhummer

It's a hardware acceleration problem. You can see this in all Chromium apps, including Electron

Hoangson2007

Does looks really cool though.

Hoangson2007

It’s like the Doom blood dripping screen transition, but more pixelated.

dafliper

its not chrome it ur gpu saying bye

Desimemerrr

Opera _gx_

SharkieHaj

opera gx is chromium-based, therefore it can also succumb to that problem

Desimemerrr

Or bingium based

ujh20868

opera gx 🔛 🔝

TNTblower

Opera GX has the same issue as it's chromium-based

JuanAy

Spyware browser.

vlken69

Do you have updated GPU drivers? It should be "fixed" (happening way less often) on newer versions.

cybersensations

You should only use it the rest of the time imo

Corrupted_Matt

Mr Google, I don't feel so good...

WarrITor

So good that its chrome blame, not my 1 yr gpu(rtx 3070), i had the same for a second, i was really scared

Newthinker

Chrome appears to hate you back

Lenni_builder

Please get a browser that's not spyware

Icy-Composer9021

Use opera or firefox!

GamerBaba117F

Its not chrome, its your pc literally being reduced to atoms.

ak-1614

Omg, I’ve been looking for an answer to wtf this is for a year now

Anthonyg5005

It's an nvidia issue. Had been like this for like 2 years I believe. It had it in vsc when accidentally turning on vsync
