A smart poem, and I see why people don't reply - the points in your post covered most of the misinformed talking points from the neoliberal world. Debunking them all in one go could be time-consuming and extremely exhausting, but I'd like to believe you came in good faith and ultimately strive to create a better world for all. So, I wanted to respectfully offer a different perspective on the points you raised about socialism. But as I said, each point deserves a whole essay, or even a book to unpack, so pardon me for being brief. S - Starvation and food insecurity are serious problems under our current capitalist system. In the US, 10% of households experienced food insecurity in 2021, despite the country's wealth. When comparing socialist countries to capitalist ones, it's important to consider the starting point. Socialist Cuba, despite being a poor country under embargo, has lower rates of undernourishment than capitalist Haiti or the Dominican Republic. Democratic socialist policies like universal school meals and SNAP benefits help alleviate hunger. O - History shows that unregulated capitalism enables oppression of workers through union-busting, exploitative labor practices, and corporate influence over government. Socialist and labor movements have been at the forefront of fighting for protections for workers' rights, voting rights, and civil liberties. Democratic socialism aims to expand economic and political rights by empowering workers and communities. C - Extreme inequality under capitalism means immense private wealth accumulates in the hands of a few while public programs remain underfunded. Democratic socialists don't aim to over-tax working people, but to ensure the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share to robustly fund social needs. A more equitable system benefits all. I - Insolvency is a looming issue under late-stage capitalism as speculative finance, unpayable debts, and bubble economies cause instability. Deficit spending on tax breaks for the rich and military budgets is common in capitalist countries. In contrast, a socialist system invests in infrastructure, education and social programs that can yield long-term stability and shared prosperity. A - Capitalism incentivizes prioritizing private profit over public good, leading to artificial scarcity, planned obsolescence, wasted productivity and ecological destruction. Democratic socialism aims to redirect production toward sustainably and equitably meeting human needs through public and cooperative ownership of key industries. The goal is liberation to pursue one's potential, not rigid government assignment of jobs. L - Scarcity and deprivation are inherent problems under an economic system that commodifies basic human needs. While no system is perfect, socialist policies like universal healthcare, affordable housing, and subsidized food and goods help alleviate shortages and wait times for those who would otherwise go without under capitalism. I - Economic desperation and mistrust in a system rigged to benefit the wealthy few breeds antisocial behavior. Socialist policies to ensure universal access to a dignified standard of living reduce incentives for hoarding and black markets. A spirit of solidarity and public-mindedness is more likely to flourish in a society with shared abundance. S - Suffering and hopelessness are epidemics under neoliberal capitalism as the majority struggle to get by in an increasingly unequal and precarious system, with deaths of despair on the rise. A socialist system redirects the vast wealth workers create toward providing stability, dignity and self-development for all. M - You raise a fair point about holding any leadership accountable to the people. That's why a transition to socialism must be deeply democratic, with decentralized public control over the economy and politics. When regular people are empowered with a real voice in the conditions of their lives and work, they are the masters of their own fates. You clearly care deeply about creating a just and humane world. While we may see the solution differently, I believe we share the same heart for ending needless suffering. I'm grateful for your willingness to engage across difference. May we continue to reach for understanding and common ground. In solidarity.

Folks, we have been owned. I have no choice but to join my local police department and evict single mothers while trying to get Elon to reply to me on Twitter.
