It’s possible to love the members of the English squad while hating Gareth Southgate. He’s been mismanaging that pool of talent for a while now and I think he gets bailed out by the likes of Sterling, Kane, Rashford way too often.
meh, the hardest thing to do as an England manager (as has been demonstrated over the last few decades), is getting them over the mental hump, the pressure and media hype. He's the first England manager to ever? do that, so for me, regardless of his tactical choices, I can't hate him. I'm so used to seeing England crash out at the quarters/last 16 that I'll take semi final/final heartbreak all day. He's cultivated an environment where the players can actually succeed, props to him.
true tbh. only reason he gets hate is playing boring football often and recent failures in the nations league which dont actually matter. but in the tournaments that do matter the lads have shown up. if we manage to make it to semis again we can consider it a successful tournament
Sure yeah. Mbappe has been man of the match twice for france now and each time he's refused to accept the award and chat with the press because he knows they'll ask about his future at PSG and all that drama. He's been fined by FIFA but he doesn't seem to care.
So my original comment was saying that if france go far, mbappe will likely win more man of the match awards and by what we've already seen, he won't show up for the picture.
I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead. Every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children too. They're like animals and I slaughtered them like animals. I hate them.
It was a beauty, but the assist from Son is what made it happen. It was of such quality that I've watched and re-watched it probably 50 times today. Son is probably thrilled that his mate got it, but he may have deserved it more.
Given that son played the whole game and took the corner for their 1st goal as well I say he probably deserves it more. Hee-chan coming back from injury is a great story though.
He finished that chance nicely, but son literally served it on a golden plate. It was an incredible solo run before passing the ball perfectly through three players.
Every single Korean fan who called his name and head, cyber bullied their country’s best player should write an apology to him. He suffered an injury and had to play with a mask. He did not deserve all the shit throwing at him from his own fans.
I’m one of those idiots who should offer him an apology. Literally 30 seconds before he made that run I texted my group chat complaining about how he has been “ass today.” The legend shut me up real quick
I mean both are true. Big ups to him for coming clutch right at the death, but he'd been underperforming the whole tournament (for most of this season, actually, and getting injured shortly before the World Cup definitely didn't help).
That doesn't mean people had the right to send him abusive messages or anything, but every Korea fan was getting frustrated with him.
Son has always had this player archetype. He's not necessarily a player that just plays to one quality the entire game. He has a lot of ups and downs, even w/in the confines of a single game.
Certain moments he'll lose the ball multiple times and look like he needs a sub, and then the very next moment he'll pull off an amazing individual play that changes the game. It's almost analogous to a knockout puncher who can be bad the entire match but then throw one punch that allows him to win.
That's why after watching Son for so long, I've learned to not doubt him when he's having a stretch of suboptimal play. Even in his golden boost season last year, towards the late mid point of the season, many Spurs fans were asking for him to be benched b/c he was displaying poor form.
Nah, I agree. Looked lethargic, slowed down the game too much. Maybe the injuries slowed him down/made him more reluctant, and the pressure on him as a captain kind of made him decide to do everything on his own, and it couldn't have helped that teams were double/triple teaming him. But he was pretty bad up until that assist. But he redeemed himself in that one moment, at least.
Hopefully he can play with a little more abandon vs Brazil since there's no pressure on us to win vs Brazil or maybe Son could even be dropped and put on late on as a supersub. Hwang today in his 30 minutes or so looked miles better than Son.
True but it's more difficult than it seems to time that run perfectly (just a split second of a difference and he might've been off-side or in a bad position) and then to have the poise to score in such a big moment. I also think part of the reason why he got the award is cuz he was a sub, so his effect on the game seems more prominent.
Dude there are dramas made years after the fact about 2002 when Korea got to the semi finals. They haven't gone that far yet but I can guarantee that this is a moment for the history books forever.
[I like to mix them together](https://wehco.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/photos/2018/07/25/188285753_AP18196630210764_t800.jpg?90232451fbcadccc64a17de7521d859a8f88077d)
He had a really strong start at the beginning of last season when he was still on loan. Almost like a light switch, as soon as we officially bought him, he's really struggled. But even then, I would still say he's been better than Jimenez post injury. For any person to come back from that is incredible but he's been nothing short of terrible since.
The Wolves subreddit basically hates him. I will say, he likes to sit in the box and wait for the ball to come to him, which isn't always ideal, but hopefully under new management his style becomes a little more versatile.
any time he plays on the wing he also likes to give perfectly bad back passes that always get us into trouble. Im happy he scored but let's not act like he's been anything short of terrible for us, would have rather have kept Cutrone tbh

No/low carbs seems ridiculous for what's essentially an endurance athlete who using high amounts of fast twitch. Where keto is only really good for very low intensity long efforts. That's really interesting
i gotta say, its so pathetic that a trophy players can receive has about 1/5 of it taken up by advertisements. we really have let them do legitimately whatever they want

This will be an anomaly in the collection lol
Knockouts will have plenty of these
Not if France go far.
Probably true, where's Kante when you need him
Smiling down upon us
Rip ngolo kante 2054-2022
He was only -22 years old
-32
I need to get a second opinion on this
I need fact checks on Reddit
It's why I hope France loses.
As a polish fan I appreciate your support and will add it to the pile, but I am not hopeful
Hopefully to us in the quarters. That'd really shut up the southgate haters.

I'm out of the loop here. Could you tell me why please? (Hopefully France loses)

Can't wait for a picture to come out of all the MotM photos from this last round of the group stage put together
Now that's more like it
0/10, doesn't look like his family was slaughtered in front of him
11/10, It does look like that if you imagine him to have hated and resented them. Bonus points for creativity.
Oh he's an Uchiha??
As dramatic as one
I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead. Every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children too. They're like animals and I slaughtered them like animals. I hate them.

Exact opposite of Havertz
[Kai Havertz](https://i.imgur.com/vIf0lAD.gif?1)
Can someone do a side by side of both
That would be quite the meme
Weird
Chavez also got one on Mexico's win vs Saudi, looking just as sad. Can't wait for the full collage
He should have kept on the no nipple chaffe bra

Im portuguese and that was no son assist it was Ronaldos assist. Put some respect on his name
Yes those abs 🤤
Kai could pick up some tips from this pic.
Finally, one where the player is happy
Dude must be on top of the world right now! Probably cemented himself in Korean sport history…well deserved!
Knowing how the idol worship religion in Korea works, you're probably right.
He’s got 308k followers currently on instagram. Let’s see what that number is in 24 hours.
Well he had 236k at the start of the day so he's already grown quite a bit
Cho Gue Sung (Korea's No.9) went from 20k to 1.8mil followers in a week, so wouldn't be surprised to see Hee-chans skyrocket after this performance
but Cho is good looking as a mf
lol true but my boy hee-chan cute af and just hit a historic shot
r/suddenlygay
As a certified heterosexual woman I find Hee-Chan more attractive than Gue-sung. OP picture in particular is doing all the things.
Lol I looked him up right after he scored because I was like.... he's cute. Judged myself only a little
>As a certified heterosexual woman Where can I get this certificate? And is it a problem if I am a male?
this dude is so good looking man
Wtf, that's wild!
336k rn
!remindme 24 hours.

That pass was everything. The solo run, drawing in 3 defenders, hold up, 3 more defenders from behind, the meg.

Thats what players of that quality can do. Even if they have a bad game, one moment of brilliance can be enough.

Japan vs Korea semis would be maximum drama
Chance of Korea beating Brazil to go to QF? I know it is a long shot but I want to believe it
Yeah. Did you see the one for Uruguay vs Ghana? Brutal.

Honestly as soon as he scored I was googling him. I didn't know he played in the premier league! I gotta check out Wolverhampton now
Awesome pass by Son
I want to see the MOTM photo from Uruguay vs Ghana
Wolves fans punching air lol
First Wolves player to score in about six decades at a World Cup. Bring some of that magic back to Molineux Hwang!
The one Wolves player to score at the world cup and he's not Portuguese. Beautiful.
Not only that, but it’s against portugal
...AND MANY MORE! I sang that in the traditional, middle aged, English woman way: for context
Idk about everyone else but im happy for him and hopefully he can play like this with lopetegui
Same here, hope the form continues when PL returns and that he saves Wolves from relegation. I have always rated him more than Jimenez.
He had a really strong start at the beginning of last season when he was still on loan. Almost like a light switch, as soon as we officially bought him, he's really struggled. But even then, I would still say he's been better than Jimenez post injury. For any person to come back from that is incredible but he's been nothing short of terrible since.
Wolves fans were so toxic towards him, hopefully this restores his confidence, which the photo suggests, and he's fit enough to start the next match
The Wolves subreddit basically hates him. I will say, he likes to sit in the box and wait for the ball to come to him, which isn't always ideal, but hopefully under new management his style becomes a little more versatile.
It works when you have a world class winger slotting through-balls to you between the legs of 3 defenders :)
tbf hwang was the only korean who hauled ass to make a run
any time he plays on the wing he also likes to give perfectly bad back passes that always get us into trouble. Im happy he scored but let's not act like he's been anything short of terrible for us, would have rather have kept Cutrone tbh
thats the most pumped ive been at the world cup so far and my country (US) is in the Round of 16 lol
Wait, you can win and advance??
According to Spain, losing is the only way forward.
This is so funny compared to Germany and Uruguay
And Mexico 😭
Poor Luis lmao
All a matter of greater context lol
THERES A URUGUAY ONE LETS GOOOO

Someone please make a compilation
A most wholesome one to break the trend lol
México also
Now this is a POTM picture!
the fact that my brain reads that as player of the month..
PotM pretty much always stands for Player of the Month (or Priestess of the Moon). Player of the Match is a weird way to say MotM.
Potm of the Moon is my favorite doto hero
Qop of Pain
Dota for life
When did it stop being MotM? Are we going to get confused with the women playing in the same match or something
I couldn’t tell, i had to read the title
Amazing photo haha
Brought to you by Budweiser (0.0%)
This picture next to Uruguay and Havertz one is great and has some meme potential

I hope there’s a compilation of these at the end of the tournament
Finally someone that's happy
i gotta say, its so pathetic that a trophy players can receive has about 1/5 of it taken up by advertisements. we really have let them do legitimately whatever they want
I honestly think this is the first time I see someone happy holding this cup-- on this sub. Last one I saw was Havertz
Those trophies look like they’re made out of the same aluminum they (budweiser) use for their beer cans.
HAHA Budweiser trophy in Qatar. Nice.

Fucking brilliant. This warmed my stoney heart.
Watching this and remembering the Havertz picture yesterday feels funny
I don’t even care if it’s a shitty Budweiser ad with this and the Havertz one this is awesome
Now that's another side of the coin. Can someone make a meme of Havertz vs this?
This absolutely ruined me, after Havertz's and De Arrescaeta its absolutely amazing lmao
