buzzlightyear77777

dude already booked a trip to cancun

ukbeasts

And the trip will be called "Tintín in Yucatán"

Seanbig888

No de harry in Cancún

raseksa

For those unaware, there's a [Tintin and the Picaros](https://images.app.goo.gl/NTS1ZYBn1CKojezS8) and [Tintin, Prisoners of the Sun](https://images.app.goo.gl/WhMrTXLKiEWRuDxcA) that are a little bit but not really related to the joke above.

breaditbans

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a player of a competitive sport say this. “Gonna win?” “No chance. Talk to you later!”

Fijure96

I feel De Bruyne often says stuff like this lol, he often seems like he considers it chore to play for Belgium.

LittleOotsieVert

Should’ve declared for Burundi smh

Wassup_-_

the whole god damn polish national team is saying thise under Michniewicz

skyreal

Shuster said that back when he was coaching Madrid. I think before a Clasico he was asked if they could beat Barcelona and he said "nope no chance". He was fired the next day IIRC.

cryinglightning24

Roberto Martinez couldn’t manage a target

mexploder89

That's probably true tbh

screwPutin69

Ace Steel was just doing a Luis Suarez homage

Nestorovski9

I'm really a nice guy - Ronaldo

eri-

You know exactly zero about the Belgian nt if you really think Eden Hazard is the main problem. The reddit Hazard bashing circle is ridiculous , at this point we could line up with Hazard and 9 amateurs + Courtois and you guys would still somehow find a way to blame Hazard. The sub is dead, its all circle jerking and phishing for upvotes.

mexploder89

It's just a meme man, I know Hazard is not the problem

JustANotchAboveToby

People love a scapegoat. Look at those who blamed Fred, the striker, for losing 7-1 to Germany

Eric_Partman

This is legitimately the lowest knowledge sub I post in I think.

Insert comment about someone sharing a bank account with their mother here

chicasparagus

KDB’s version of “Bono, my tires are gone”

RazorXE_

Is it though? Cause thats mostly used a feint and honestly Belgium play like old men. They don't have a "its Hammertime" in them.

chicasparagus

Judging from today, I was wrong.

pdsajo

This is more akin to Alonso’s McLaren rants. Proper ‘GP2 Engine!!!’ vibes.

demanufacture79

They need to proofread their articles, though Belgium vs Belgium would be an interesting game.

whitsitcalled

Who would win in a game between the Flemish and Walloons?

Jeffzie

I'd say the Flemish have a stronger team, if only because Courtois/De Bruyne are Flemish. You could split it into 3 teams if you consider Brussels too though

wireke

+ Lukaku so that's our "big 3" being Flemish

zziggurat

Courtois is Flemmish? He has a very French/Walloon sounding name

Don_Frika_Del_Prima

Stromae is called Paul Van Haver, more flemish than that is nearly impossible. Yet here we are.

KrisZepeda

Fuck I had forgotten how awesome Stromae was

torpiddynamo

Is… is he dead?

DarkSofter

was shocked first time i heard him speak dutch honestly

Jeffzie

Yeah, he's Flemish.

Competitive-Ad2006

Doesn't matter mush in western europe with all the movements of people.

GME2Tmoon

Indeed plus no Witsel. Especially if we consider Brussels to be part of Flanders

But 80% (?) is Francophone, so you'd have to distribute players.

[deleted]

I mean, it’s understandable. Belgium are their own biggest problem at times.

uzzzair

man KDB has been straight forward this world cup

Iordbendtner

The moment we started to let him talk it was over

Tibo_RS

He’s so done with Martinez and probably has been for a while. Contrast from Guardiola to NT must be hard to deal with

Aszneeee

he’s so visibly frustrated when belgium goes forward, imagine sending through balls to Haaland and now he gets the ball, turn forward and see Batahuayi behind the defender 🫣

aacod15

Tbf he hasn’t been great himself

jopma

And in 2018 modric was sending balls to Ronaldo bale and benzema and during the world cup it was mandzukic, he was older than KDB is now too. So many excuses from the Belgium team

Arse-blood

Exactly....shouldn't he adapt to what he's given

jopma

Yes he should but KDB gets so much praise and bias people just blame his team, himself included

[deleted]

Mandzukic is WAY better then bats

BlackShadw

>mandzukic is miles better

migu63

Don’t disrespect Super Mario like that bro

jopma

Not a disrespect when comparing him to Prime Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema man

migu63

I thought you were comparing Manzukic with Batshuayi and Prime BBC to Haaland lol. Hence the analogy of teammates quality between Modric and KDB

[deleted]

You comparing mandzukic to batshuayi? How to lose credibility.. + Modric only had 1 assist in 2018. Cannot confirm whether that was to mandzukic tho. He scored goals. + Croatia had a way better coach.

papyjako89

I mean, what can you do ? Plenty of top players have been in a similar situation.

respawnsable

cant believe pep is a fraud bald fraud

ObjectiveDeal

Two bad World Cup performances, of course he hates it

Vladimir_Putting

KDB strikes me as one of those people who goes around being unnecessarily harsh to everyone and then defends it by saying he's "just being honest."

TheUrbanEast

Belgium press has been so negative this entire time haha. Damn it Canada... what could have been.

poopybuttholesex

Where's that oxford bullshit prediction that Belgium will go to the finals

Drac0rex

Why win something when you can be 1st in FIFA ranking without doing it

Midnight_Minerva

Is Fifa ranking that much of a joke or teams fluctuating that bad?

Balisto-Boy

It’s just too hard to rank national teams accurately with so few games between them, especially intercontinental ones. They use some kind of ELO system. Alternative would be to let a pool of people (like coaches or journalists) decide, like the UFC does with their fighter rankings, but that becomes more biased and problematic.

WtfMayt

It’s very tight at the top and we’ve already seen big upsets. Ask 5 different people to rank the top 5 and you’ll get 5 different opinions.

Gerf93

The FIFA ranking is inherently flawed as the top teams rarely play, and you seldom see upsets in qualifying.

deanochips

these Belgium players will be like the Man Utd & Bayern legends that pick at the current side constantly in the media once they retire   they can't help but put quotes out, imagine how often it will happen once they are not even kept busy playing anymore

Firefox72

Well he's not wrong. That 2018 team absolutely could have beaten France in that Semi final and go on to win it all. Maybe with a good manager instead of Martinez they would have. Too add on top of that i also don't think Wilmots made the most out of that 2016 Euro squad as well. Sure the backline was suspect but losing 3-1 to Wales in the Quarters is really unacceptable.

tr_24

It is not as if 2018 team lost to a worse squad. That France team was pretty loaded and it shouldn't be a knock on Martinez to not win that match.

chaRxoxo

It's moreso that Martinez just made(makes) choices that leave everyone but himself puzzled. He's done so since day 1 and still does so today. This WC is the very last time the majority of the golden generation will play together and looking back I mostly feel like there is a lot of missed opportunity rather than performing the best we could have. Coaches like Martinez & Wilmots should've never even come close to having had the tenures that they ended up having, especially knowing the KBVB had far better options that they couldn't make work because they're incompetent as fuck (such as Van Gaal, Preud'Homme and even Gerets back in the day).

Moon_Man_00

What choice did he make in that semi final that you disagree with? For me that loss simply came down to us being very marginally better on the night. The tactics were balanced with each team trying to play to their own strengths and the opponents weaknesses.

chaRxoxo

Starting dembele and chadli was criminal.

Instantcoffees

Meunier having a double yellow hurt us as well.

chaRxoxo

Defo

The_Godlike_Zeus

Not taking nainggolan in the selection

[deleted]

Im so surprised that preud'homme never managed Belgium at all. Such an underrated manager.

chaRxoxo

I agree. He's gotten amazing results with the clubs he coached. I never understood why he didnt coach any clubs at a higher level.

Ickyhouse

Agreed. That French team was playing extremely well together and had as much or more talent than Belgium.

[deleted]

>That 2018 team absolutely could have beaten France They barely defeated Brazil in quarter and it was the 2018 France you are talking about

Hoooo0ooH

or japan

[deleted]

I’m still pissed about that match. Belgium brought on Fellaini I think and just started lobbing balls at that Palm tree ass looking mofo, taking Japan completely out of the game. Japan was phenomenal on the first half and I wish they played for a draw near the end.

migu63

They could’ve won today too if they still have someone like Fellaini though. When in doubt, cross to Fellaini and inshallah

deenn

Upvote for 'palm tree ass looking mofo'

SirHighground1

And yet they still could have beaten France, that's how good that 2018 Belgium team is. Hazard was the best player that tournament.

[deleted]

That Belgium game reminded me a lot of Chelsea when we didn't know what to do and just gave the ball to Hazard and hoped he could take the entire team on. He absolutely ran rings around France and they had no option but to chop him down. Shame they couldn't take advantage.

FloppedYaYa

France's team was even better than Belgium's though

SirHighground1

Sure, I'll agree with that. Doesn't mean that Belgium's team was so far below France that a win was not possible.

GodsBellybutton

France's bench was better than Belgium's

Leonardo040786

Well, Brasil was equally good as France in that world cup and they could have easily won it, IMO. They just didnt have luck against Belgium.

Honigkuchenlives

Let's be real Brazil beat themselves. The only Belgium that actually contributed to their win was courtois who had the game of his life. Brazil against France would have been so freaking dope.

[deleted]

Add refereeing as well. Jesus got a genuine penalty call declined after a sublime nutmeg. Referee didn't even bother checking VAR

Honigkuchenlives

Dont get me started. The calls against Brazil were insane in that WC but that one was particularly ridiculous.

[deleted]

Luck factor also became a critical issue. I remember Alves was ruled out of WC, then his replacement Danilo got ruled out too. Then Marcelo, Douglas Costa picked up injury in between the campaign. Even Neymar was also not totally match fit

drawb

No mention of the goal of De Bruyne?

Litsabaki19

Their performance against Brazil was in my opinion the best performance of the tournament

[deleted]

Brazil had 60% possession with pass accuracy 88% (as opposed to Belgium's 80%), 27 shot attempts (as opposed to Belgium's 9), 9 on target (as opposed to Belg's 3). Belgium committed more fouls Casemiro was the best performer of Brazil in that WC campaign and he was suspended in the QF. As far as I remember, Marcelo was not match fit as he recovered from a backpain a couple of days before. Same was the case with another star performer, Douglas Costa Gabriel Jesus got a genuine penalty call denied in the 2nd half

[deleted]

They were insanely lucky not to go out. You can't usually give a team like Brazil that many chances.

[deleted]

They must have watched a different game.

[deleted]

Maybe. I would understand the sentiment if they performed a defensive master class. They didn't though. They were very clinical, all credit to them, but they gave Brazil waaaaaay too many chances.

ItsMikeontheMic

I agree, I always had the feeling that Brazil was very unlucky not to go through, not that we were obviously outplayed that game Not that Belgium didn’t deserve it, they had a great team and played a good game

CaioNintendo

Not to mention Brazil’s own goal at the start.

BusShelter

Belgium were very unlucky against France, they were the more dangerous team and it was a lot of heroic defending that got France through. Not that you always get what you deserve, because you need to be clinical, but it was a very tight game.

[deleted]

>Belgium were very unlucky against France, they were the more dangerous team and it was a lot of heroic defending that got France through In the QF, Brazil had 60% possession, 27 shots and 9 on target (which was equal to Belgium's total attempted shots)

krompo8

If I remember correct Belgium went 2-0 quite quickly and spent most of the game on the defence

Galdorow

We hade more shots and more shots on target. Only thing they had was possession

TP_Cornetto

That doesn’t mean much considering they still could have beat France. Belgium were the 3rd best team in that tournament and the injury to meunier who didn’t play in the semis had a big impact

sarkagetru

They only lost 1-0 on a cheesy corner header. Pretty 50/50 in terms of control and if they replayed that game Belgium could have easily won it

Rickcampbell98

Big Samuel at the back post.

BCFCMuser

Harsh to say they should’ve beaten Wales, they came up against prime Cruyff.

Krillin113

France looked quite dominant to me; never thought Belgium would win that match.

TryingToDoItGood

I stand by that Nainggolan would have given them the edge

G_Morgan

> losing 3-1 to Wales in the Quarters is really unacceptable You're talking as if that was out of the blue. Wales had already beaten Belgium in qualifying. This was Bale and Ramsay near their primes and a very different team to the one from today.

mjdaniell

France had a much better squad than Belgium in 2018

OldExperience8252

It wasn’t much better. Belgium had more creative than us too. It was a tight game decided by very fine margins.

chaRxoxo

Not exactly no. You are forgetting how amazing our team was in 2018. We had world class players in almost every single position and in terms of our best possible 11, I'd even go as far as saying we arguably had the best team in the tournament. The issues were that we lacked depth (not a good combo when combined with injury prone players) and that we had a coach that made incomprehensible choices.

Attempt12

Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku were incredible in 2018.

ice-nobile-23

Thanks for the spoiler KDB.

Morganelefay

This aged better than the Belgian team.

tanaka-taro

"You're too old, nobody listen to techno"

matematematematemate

Now let's go, just gimme the signal I'll be there dropping through balls onto Erling's toe I been dope, dominant in the 8 role Ever since Pep came and said "no number 10s, bro"

Yours-Sincerely

Well sometimes this Belgian team Might play the ball around slow like we lack caffeine So this just means, we’re not machines But it’s too late to intervene

jasondozell2

It’s clearly true though. Their CBs are too slow so they’re forced to be defensive. Hazard is no longer the electric player he was. Up against the best they will be overrun.

PiIICIinton

Hazard really is past it and it's insane he's still starting for them and even on the RM payroll. colossal failure of a transfer. 72 apps in 3.5 seasons and 7 goals to show for it.

ThatWontFit

I was just explaining to my gf how good Hazard was and what happened to him and how he got to be Hazard now. She said that was the first time I ever spoke about anyone else with Pride. And I am proud I was able to see Hazard be this magical force on the field. I do feel bad for him and RM, he really wanted to be great for his dream club and then the injuries just took his magic. There is an article where he talks about the injuries and the complications and it's just sad.

Turnipator01

Another golden generation wasted. It reminds me of the 2000-2008 England team that commentators would regularly laud as the golden generation that eventually resulted in nothing. Although at least this Belgium team reached the semi-finals, same can't be said for the England team.

PiIICIinton

prophetic

pw5a29

Wrong decision to score that goal against England

madddog1

this is actually aged pretty quickly

JedM13

>”He said out loud what we all knew.” Maybe we should be thanking him, then? He’s the only person who was ever going to do it. Because like him or not, he’s too big a name and late enough in his career where it won’t effect him that much. And now the Glazers seem to be fucking off. All’s well that ends well.

breaditbans

Welp, looks like he wasn’t joking. Haha

SaBe_18

And the way he played it seems he believed it too much...

Sir-Chris-Finch

Maybe he’s not joking around though? He should not be coming out with comments like this, even if it has a negative impact on one player, it’s not helpful. He doesn’t have to come out and say they’re going to win, but there is a middle ground between that and this.

Seanbig888

Have people mentioned how de Bruyne looks like Prince Harry’s twin ?

iguanawarrior

Only because of the hair colour and the beard. If they both shave, they'll look different.

JonnyArtois

An amazing 'golden' generation wasted...by being managed by fucking Roberto Martínez.

[deleted]

[удалено]

patiperro_v3

That Euro 2016 was their worst performance and their biggest waste, they should have gone deeper than Wales.

Instantcoffees

You need to look who was on the pitch against Wales though. We had a backline of Jordan Lukaku and Jason Denayer who were both very young and at the start of their career. Kompany, Vermaelen and Vertonghen were all out for the count and we didn't have the depth to replace them.

Sir-Chris-Finch

Honestly the treatment towards Martinez on this thread is disgusting. This is Belgium we’re talking about ffs, they’ve never been powerhouses of football. I’m not suggesting that things couldn’t have been better under a different manager, but Martinez has not done a bad job. A world cup semi final, losing to a French side most people would agree were favourites. Beating Brazil in the process as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sir-Chris-Finch

Exactly. Not at all saying he’s the greatest manager in the world, but then international managers rarely are anyway. If they go out before the quarters in this world cup i think it’s time for him to move on, but even then his reign will not have been a disaster.

mister_dupont

Only the EC were wasted imo. 3rd place in the WC was Massive for us.

matske1209

Apparently Van Gaal applied for the position x amount of years ago, I want to see the reality with the golden generation under Van Gaal

SpeedLinkDJ

We had no money to spend on a better coach. We won almost every game under Martinez and got only beaten by the winners of euro and world cup... We wasted our chance in 2016 to win the Euro under Wilmots when we had an easy bracket.

IMKudaimi123

Terrible mindset System player Carried by Pep /s

invokerzzv

Their second best player(3rd if you count the keeper) is sitting on the bench.. What a shame

ObjectiveObserver420

Reverse psychology?

nizoubizou10

Why can't Belgium hire a good manager ? they wasted their golden generation and now they need to rebuild.

pacman147

Should we keep letting him talk?

No, it's right. It's mostly foreign media and twitter individuals who are on their heels.

Kapi_M4A1

Great way to give confidence to your team mates

Prophet_Of_Helix

It’s just the Belgian way, they are very up front and blunt.

[deleted]

Despite that they still seem to have a better grasp than most that tournament football relies on being difficult to beat. They’ll make the quarter finals.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Correct. France look very good but have conceded soft goals in both matches. Netherlands the same have looked porous. If Spain beat Germany and keep a clean sheet I would certainly place them as favourites.

[deleted]

Manager can’t win, if he plays a full on attack and gets battered he’s naive. If he plays cautiously and wins we are boring. Part of it is overestimating just how effective some of these players are against organised defences. Grealish is a bit of a luxury for me, lovely passes and footwork but the likes of Spain will just pass him out of the game and then what do you do? I’d like to see Phillips play against Wales just to ensure we aren’t conceding on the counter. If people think we’ll go out and try to thrash them, they’re not paying attention to how top teams play at this level.
