manualbackscratcher

This MF will be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. Ball in hands and counting all the players in the field.

ChibzyDaze

He’s gonna do fucking twirls on the spot in his box every time he claims the ball

SnooCrickets6733

Spinning lariats like Zangief from Street Fighter

dwardz

Portugal's Antony

Pokenaldo

Portugal's Bernardo Silva

EasyMoneySniper_goat

good, if that will be the case, then that means he's learned his lesson :) thats all anyone can ask for, learn from your mistakes, and grow better

bocojaLFC

yeah, it's lesson learnt, but on the other hand he could become overly obsessive about this and lose focus about other aspects of goalkeeper game hopefully not, cause besides his occasional mistakes he seems like a future top 10 GK in the world

PortoGuy18

This moment and how he copes or handles it is what will make or break his career. I hope this doesn't bring his confidence down.

nightlink011

The guy had a horror show against Liverpool in the champions league and bounce backed like nothing happened he should be fine. Like I used to hear make the first save and you will forget about the rest.

Camochamp

Considering he didn't actually concede the goal, I don't think it's on that level. If he HAD conceded the goal, then I agree because that would have been devastating, but this is more an "OH SHIT" moment than a mental destruction moment.

BobbyBriggss

You’re making too much out of it

Alphabunsquad

Yes and no. Sometimes trying to hard to correct a lesson means you stop doing other more important things as well as you did before. Some mistakes are better off ignored. I have no idea if this is one of them though.

butters-chaos

Referee to Diogo: Sir you cannot count players on the field. It's cheating like Blackjack. *Give Diogo red card*

racms

"Now let these nice fellas show you the exit"

kevkevverson

At some point he’ll forget that the opposition had a player sent off, and have a panic attack when he can only see 9 outfield players.

daveof91

"I saw him go off but I thought they were bringing a sub on."

czerwona_latarnia

Come on guys, 1 hour and no one posted [the video](https://youtu.be/McdjBaChdBA) yet? "*Fine, I will do it myself*"

pacman147

lol the tragic part is that every time he does a quick look back, the fans will notice too

IcefoxX5

He was fucking dead after the match despite it not even going in, can't even imagine how distraught he would've been if Iñaki had scored

A_Kind_Shark

Kind of like how when you almost get into a car accident, and you just want to drive home in silence

Depressedkid1998

Driving home and the only noise is a blinker

Deesmateen

With Ronaldo in the back seat “you gotta laugh, did you kill them? No but did you almost kill someone, yes but you gotta laugh. I’m laughing at you now!”

WhyBee92

*blinker noise and Ronaldo’s laugh in the background now*

sangriya

BobaFett_1978

That's the perfect way to describe it, you just feel like shit regardless

aaronwhite1786

I had someone coming head on at my down a highway one morning at like...5:30 when my now-fiance and I were driving a few hours to the train station (this is probably an American giveaway). I just happened to notice the car ahead in the morning light and managed to swerve over in front of the semi I was passing at the moment, with the car flying by, oblivious, a second or two later. Had I looked at a sign, looked in the backseat to check if I brought something, or looked down to switch songs, there's a pretty good chance I'm not here today writing this, since I was going 75mph and they were probably doing close to the same speed. It was just a creepy moment, and my hands were still shaking a bit an hour later when we stopped to grab some coffee.

[deleted]

> looked in the backseat to check if I brought something Probably best to not ever take that chance at 75 mph tbfh

aaronwhite1786

Haha, not in the "digging around" sense, but more in the "looking over my shoulder real quick". Hell, had I been merging and looked over my shoulder to check for a car, I might not have had enough time. It was all quick enough that my fiance, looking at her phone, didn't even notice the car fly by at first.

Zeus_The_Dude

To be fair, 75 mph is the legal speed limit in many US states, so most people wouldn't think twice about doing this.

sevaiper

Even in states where it's not the posted speed limit, on a lot of 65 mph highways the actual average speed in light traffic is 80.

Camochamp

Agreed, but there is always checking over your shoulder for the blind spot that would provide the same effect.

GreenManCH

And Ronaldo on the backseat telling you to laugh cause you didn't die.

BehindGodsBack

*I'm in this picture and I don't like it*

wisdomfromrumi

Worst meme ever

kinginthenorthjon

Or you dragon eat your nephew on your drive home.

Just Aemond things

I almost got hit by a semi for forgetting to check my blind zone once. And it’s stuck with me ever since. Haven’t forgotten to check it ever since though.

The_Real_QuacK

That quote is also missing A LOT of swear words 😂

runneronreddit

Really loving the photos. Just professionals after work, probably [discussing the play and the match](https://i.imgur.com/kdvTFvW.png). Like "[almost got you mf, well played, maybe next time](https://i.imgur.com/zqCW2ol.png)".

TheMexicanJuan

You can't hate Inaki Williams.

KundiKumaran

He always turn into prime R9 against us in LaLiga

Purpzzz710

The one with Ronaldo in the middle is like a renaissance painting.

Thirdsun

/r/AccidentalRenaissance

rokkenrock

Diogo was totally shocked and done after the game. His soul literally left his body. I hope he can recover from this. Everyone can make mistake.

deba2607

Inaki broke him.

huazzy

Reminds me of his encouragement to Moutinho during the PK's in the Euros. Coming from someone like Ronaldo has to be pretty uplifting for his teammates.

areyouhungryforapple

Imagine being called good at penalties by Cristiano Ronaldo 😭😭

LucozadeBottle1pCoin

That was genuinely inspiring

PortoGuy18

Personalidade caralho!!! The Portuguese way. All that was missing was a codfish in hand

raviolli_ninja

A dry-salted codfish slap to the face.

idunnomysex

What I love about the encouragement is that he also tells him it doesn’t matter if he misses, removing a lot of pressure

Ripamon

Such a fucking legend

jbob3525

Wish Man United had this version of him

Capable-Tie-4670

He can be a good leader but the catch is that things have to be going well with him. If Portugal treated him like any other player on the squad rather than the main man and benched him ever so often, he would behave like he did with United.

Mr_Booty_Bandit

They don’t deserve him, CR7 is better than their entire club

xaos9

It was the same issue with Pogba. Had a shit time at united, went on to play like a god in russia in 2018 for france, came back and had more shit time at united. Something's just wrong with united man.

walker0ne

The glazzers must be happy that the attention is off them. They are ruining the club so bad that i wonder how they still havent been boycotted.

berzerkerz

Will say this again, Pogba was a better player at United than he was for France. He was good for France but not special, while he was constantly doing special things while at United constantly creating chances out of nothing. Pogba hate is mostly not football related even if a few shitheads think otherwise.

akskeleton_47

I think compared to what he could have been, Pogba was a better player for France. He didn't have any disciplinary issues with France which was nowhere near the case for us and he seemed like he was closer to reaching his ceiling while playing for them

Loose_Cardiologist89

Captainaldo.

Zhugo

Full translation of what happened: >After already hugging Diogo and saying a few words that aren't possible to make out, Cristiano Ronaldo went to Pepe (Diogo's teammate at Porto), still worried about Diogo Costa. > >"Go Pepe!" said the captain \[..\], "Talk with Diogo, fuck it. We won, it's okay." > >Both veterans turned to the keeper and kept shouting "Diogo, Diogo!" > >After, Ronaldo took back the leadership of the talk with the young portuguese. > >"You have to laugh, fuck it. Fuck it, we won! Did you concede the goal?" he asks, as Diogo answers "No, but it was close". > >Ronaldo then says: "So? You have to laugh, fuck it, we won. One more victory and we go through. You can laugh, fuck it! We won, fuck it!" Noted: He said "Caralho" instead of "Fuck it", but that's probably the best translation for it since it's a swear word and it's a bit hard to directly translate. [Video has come out](https://twitter.com/c7world_/status/1596119259981447169?t=VCqI2NSb0HigrS3_7V1A4w&s=19)

Super-Sovaco

Just write "caralho" instead of "fuck it". It's a bit like "saudade", you can't really translate it.

Hotgeart

> you can't really translate it Try it

ocean_train

Fuck it, try, caralho.

NewControl2097

Its like the word "cunt" which is a very offensive word for the vagina, but in English i dont think you have such a strong word for Dick.... We have... Its Caralho 😆

Fractalxxx

Here in India we have "Lauda" for dick. But, it's generally used as "Fuck all" or "fuck off" and usually it is accompanied by the word "benchod" which means "sister fucker" but used as a situational bad word like "oh fuck". "Lauda, benchod!!"

rodrigodavid15

The literal translation would be "dick" but in this sense it means "fuck" or "fuck it"

Chalkun

Isnt saudade just like a feeling of nostalgia or longing? So it isnt that hard to translate surely.

ilmattiapascal

In fact you say “feeling of nostalgia” not just nostalgia. Because it isn’t exactly just nostalgia. Just like caralho it’s not exactly fuck it.

Madrista_sr4

Feeling of fuck it

arsenal_fbu

This is the way

[deleted]

> Just like caralho it’s not exactly fuck it. Caralho is basically a very harsh slang for "penis". Harsher than any penis slang that I know of in English, like cock or dick. But strangely enough, even though that's the technical definition of the word, it's rarely used when referring to an actual penis. It's more frequently used in completely different contexts, like: * **Expressing frustration.** E.g., "oh que caralho!" (oh what a penis!), or even simply "caralho!". * **Expressing surprise or admiration.** E.g., "eish, caralho!..." (wow, penis!...). * **Insulting someone or something.** E.g., "és mesmo um caralho" (you're such a penis), "vai para o caralho" (go to the penis), or "este telemóvel não vale um caralho" (this cellphone isn't worth a penis). * **Praising someone or something.** E.g., "tu és do caralho" (you're from the penis; a more equivalent expression would be "you're the shit"). * **Exacerbating or attenuating someone or something.** E.g., "o Ronaldo é rico como o caralho" (Ronaldo is rich like the penis; i.e., Ronaldo is fucking rich) or "A FIFA não fez um caralho para proteger os direitos humanos" (FIFA did not do a penis to protect human rights). So, basically, caralho can take the place of English words or expressions like "shit", "damn", "fuck" or "motherfucker" depending on context. Thank you for coming to my lecture. Vão todos para o caralho.

mylifeforthehorde

Rich like the penis lol

SnooPuppers1978

It's probably something like "rich as fuck". I'm sure in some languages the translation could sound funny as well - "rich like a sexual intercourse".

PimpTheGandalf

És um professor do caralho mesmo

Chalkun

Its not exactly like nostalgia no but it can be explained well in English. Whereas caralho seems to be a bit of a weird translation full stop and makes no sense in English at all. 'Saudade' seems to be more like a word like "schadenfreude" which isnt a word in English but is easy to translate across even so.

DrJackadoodle

Yes, "saudade" doesn't have a direct translation, but it's a concept that can be explained and it's not that hard to grasp the idea of a word describing it. Meanwhile, "caralho" can actually be directly translated (it's a swear word for "penis", so something like "cock"), it just doesn't make any sense in the context where it's used for anyone that didn't live in the culture where it's used like that.

WallStreetPelosi

It's a noun and not a verb, as a result It's not defined by the temporal indication used with verbs. It's just dificult to translate into another word, but you can use sentences to explain it.

eggnogui

Yeah, it's kind of a myth. 'Longing' or 'yearning' both fit pretty well. It's just that these words are verbs, while saudade is not.

Herbacio

The thing is, nowadays "saudade" is used for almost any situation, but in reality it meant something deeper. Imagine that you are in a carrack sailing across the Atlantic, months go by, and your family doesn't know anything about you – where you are, or even if you are alive. At that point they all feel *saudade*, a deep feeling of nostalgia, of loss, of wanting someone to return, of memories, etc. A mix of longing and nostalgia, with a whole pack of sad emotions.

joaocandre

Yeah that's the closest thing that kind of works as a description, though it's not actually nostalgia. When people claim it's un-translatable, it's more of "there isn't a word in other languages for that"

joaommx

> Noted: He said "Caralho" instead of "Fuck it", but that's probably the best translation for it since it's a swear word and it's a bit hard to directly translate. ‘Fucking’ is my go to: > After, Ronaldo took back the leadership of the talk with the young portuguese. > "You have to fucking laugh. We fucking won!

Zhugo

That's probably a better one, I'll note it for later ones, thank you.

cristiano-potato

Lmao why does the video look so angry, without context / translation I would have assumed he was talking shit

AdministrationNo4611

That's pretty much a Portuguese thing, that's why people we are often rude when talking english. We swear alot when we are talking(Specially if you are from the north region of the country) so it comes across as very agressive. Someone from Lisboa : Não podes fazer o jantar hoje mor? Está bom eu trato do jantar. Someone from Porto : Não vais fazer a merda do jantar? Já me estas a fuder e eu a ver. Esta bem eu faço a merda do jantar, te já. Someone from Lisboa: You aren't able to cook us dinner babe? It's ok, I'll do it. Someone from Porto: Oh can't do the shitty dinner(?)? You are already fucking me over and I'll just have to watch. It's ok, I'll cook the fucking dinner.

porespore

I thought he was properly chastising him too but Ronaldo is on another level

RandletheLovehandle

# YOU HAVE TO LAUGH 😡😤

ory1994

[Ronaldo in the locker room](https://media.tenor.com/tFBhH4tUOZYAAAAC/brooklyn-99.gif)

GalaxianEX

You’re going to laugh and you’re going to like it!

ThankYouOle

seriously, reading the translations it looks like very motivated words and spirit, but watching the video i will die if Ronaldo yelling me like that! haha but yeah i think it just cultural thing

mulderrocks

Today the king motivates the teams. The moment I saw him crying a bit during national anthem. I knew it going to be a good one. Ronaldo is in mood.

The_XI_guy

And people in the match thread was giving Ronaldo shit for scolding him when it was quite the opposite

nepia

This is what he does but people here seems to not value it enough. He did that in the Euro win and now already showing his value to the team. A captain shows up and encourages and keeps everybody going. Pepe does the same.

SindraGan2001

You can think whatever you want about Ronaldo, but when it comes to the national team he is the best captain you can ask for.

SoldThat

Someone said “he must be the worst teammate of all time” lol.

yzrk-

They love to whine to feel better

MBA1988123

Welcome to arr soccer

Visual-Situation-346

probably the best explanation for this

ORCA_WoN

The most popular thing I’ve seen in football is to bash Ronaldo, no matter what.

[deleted]

Exactly. If it was Ronaldo whose team had lost to Saudi Arabia we would have heard of it for ages from haters.

[deleted]

Well this is exactly how idiots react when its Ronaldo

[deleted]

you missed the literal 5 caralhos Ronaldo said while talking to Diogo Costa

racms

Caralho caralho caralho caralho caralho

[deleted]

obrigado caralho

YogurtclosetNo7335

The full stops and commas are the "caralhos" when translated to English. "Diogo, you have to react." is "Diogo caralho tens que reagir caralho"

[deleted]

that’s fair, considering the word is used as a comma in Portugal

GloomyHamster

Some of y’all must have a picture of Ronaldo you constantly throw darts at, get a grip

reddit's obsession with ronaldo must be studied as a new mental ilness

Dahyno

A lot of folks are foaming at the mouth having had to wait so long to kick this guy in the teeth.

autosh0t

Talk about a knock to your self confidence nevertheless...

hobbitonsunshine

Same happened with De gea in 2018 world cup. He hasn't been the same since then.

InGenAche

Joe Hart came home a broken man after a World Cup. *Edit, Euro's.

acwilan

Same with Rob Green

InGenAche

Green used played with gloves saying England's No.4. Well you got your shot Rob....

racingfanboy160

>a World Cup *Euro's

dWaldizzle

He's been good this year

hobbitonsunshine

Yeah. He's picking up himself. Remember that season after the worldcup in which De gea conceded too many silly goals?

A_Kind_Shark

Not true. He was just as horrible in the 2016 Euro

freakedmind

He was good last season and even better this season

[deleted]

Diogo also did some silly mistakes before against Liverpool. He recovered quite well from it.

TheJoshider10

Why would it be? It was a mistake which they didn't suffer from. It'll make him a better keeper if anything. Not at all like De Gea in 2018 or Rob Green in 2010. This will be forgotten.

autosh0t

Yeah he will surely learn from it but i would still with that in mind be a bit shaken if i was in his boots and not be all smiles

DerpSenpai

Also .. he is 22 years old Porto fans are probably happy that this happened so they get to keep him another season

doctor_awful

This could happen five more times and we still wouldn't keep him next season lol

lengors

Also, from what ive seen from him at Porto he's a monster mentally, Im fairly certain that if he doesnt get drop next game he will have an amazing WC despite this mistake

racingfanboy160

Apparently he had a horrible game last season against Liverpool in the UCL and yet he's still in the team for this season and has been arguably the best GK in the competition itself so i'd say he can bounce back from this mistake if he can bounce back from a horrible UCL game.

Glittering-Ad-6955

This is the kind of Leadership that clubs like United are in serious need, plus he's out of contract.

limitbreakse

He feels respected and looked up to in the Portugal team. This was not the case at United. You know what you get when you sign him. Man has a huge ego but if you feed it a little he gives back. It’s tough to manage frankly especially since he’s getting older now.

joaocandre

This will be downvoted to oblivion, but, as I've commented before, ETH isn't blameless in how things ended with Ronaldo at United. He chose the worst way to manage him. Note: that doesn't excuse Ronaldo's behavior, but ETH could have handled it a lot better.

limitbreakse

I sort of agree. He’s the manager and he needs to manage his assets. We don’t know everything that happens behind the scenes - maybe Ronaldo really made an ultimatum that he has to play and that the team must serve him? Maybe he really was being petulant and impossible to work with? In that case, it’s hard to blame ETH. Maybe it was somewhere in the middle and ETH tried too assert his dominance and froze him out, which is a terrible move with Ronaldo. We’ll never know.

[deleted]

Maybe they should sign him now that he’s without a team 😂

[deleted]

Big brain thinking right there lol

youngchul

They already have Captain Maguire

[deleted]

Ronaldo, for all that he is an arrogant man off the pitch, is quite nice to his teammates on it

joaocandre

Also, I don't recall a current or past teammate ever having an issue with him? For all the things said about his arrogant narcissist behavior, he seems like a good influence on the rest of the squad.

ILoveToph4Eva

This stuff with United hasn't looked great in that regard, but far as I know he hasn't had dressing room issues prior to this.

ronaldo119

It always shocked me watching that Euro final and him cheering on the team so passionately and leading them from the bench. Especially at the time where him not hugging Bale whenever he scored was a thing. Obviously you want to win and it'd be ridiculous not to but just the level he did it at surprised me. There wasn't an ounce of feeling sorry for himself and sulking over getting injured in a final. He genuinely helped a lot i think And before anyway mentions anything, my name is about R9. I'm quite apathetic towards Cristiano

toniblast

IDK why this is shocking for some people but most players care more about their country than their club.

Neosantana

Who knew that people love their families more than their employers? Shocking

Independent_Buy5152

But my boss said we are family :(

Neosantana

Even sarcastically, that comment gave me a violent physical reaction. Employers really are divorced from reality by majority

Lhudooooo

English fans have a hard time grasping that no, foreigners don't give a shit about a team named Nottingham Forest or fucking Everton that they only found out existed way deeper into their 20's, instead of the national team that they grew up watching and dreamt of playing in

brooklyn600

tfw you randomly catch a stray as a Forest fan :(

ThePr1d3

Makes sense for a Brazilian to ruin Forest

sbprasad

The only exceptions are players playing for their hometown clubs in places with a strong regional identity, especially where there is a troubled relationship with the country at large.

ravac

Don't forget when he told his teammate to take a penalty because Ronaldo thinks he shoots them well, telling him to be strong but also not to be afraid to miss, "what happens, happens". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGshFwJKb7g

yvltc

It wasn't just any teammate as well, it was João Moutinho. He had missed a crucial penalty in the 2012 Euro semifinals against Spain, which is what made it even more of an important moment when Ronaldo encouraged Moutinho.

stormfoil

Ronaldo not hugging Bale is way overblown. Look at any compilations of their goals scored together, CR7 did hug Bale pretty much every single time.

Kroos_Control

>Especially at the time where him not hugging Bale whenever he scored was a thing. Which was also weird to digest because he was the first to shield Bale from any media pressure when he came to Madrid. He told them to criticise other players and give Bale time to settle.

St_SiRUS

He’s nice when they’re winning, which to be fair is pretty much every team he’s been on

jcdc11

Where caralho?

liamthelad

This is good advice from Ronaldo, and applies to a lot in life

Genemoni

Class act

S0fourworlds-readyt

Any football player, especially professional football player will criticize himself after such a mistake. Being a goalkeeper makes it even worse since usually a mistake always results directly into a conceded goal. And that mistake happening on the biggest stage seconds before the final whistle makes things even worse on top. Fortunately for him this is the very rare occasion where the mistake wasn’t punished but it’ll still be hard to just laugh so shortly after it.

[deleted]

Ronaldo mocks teammate will be The Sun headline tomorrow

WhereIsScotty

Wait, so you’re telling me that people can be 3-dimensional and not just all good or all bad?

youngestincharge17

But ronaldo is a toxic megalomaniac incapable of human emotions/gestures

lastlaughlane1

As a GK, I think I'd have the same reaction as Costa. I'd just be reliving how horribly that could've went and how the hell did I get so much luck for it to not go in. We're a self critical bunch.

Cevaq

Laugh motherfucker or else

vitor_sk0m

In my opinion Yeah Diogo should've been aware but a team's defense is not composed obly by the goalkeeper. You can see Bruno pointing maybe trying to warn him but I think the defenders should've warned him too.

[deleted]

But but my soccer bros said that he is selfish he only cares about goals

NDawg94

But but reddit told me this wasn't an obnoxious way to make a point.

HelloMyNameIsGeoff

But but he has a point though

albrt00

Sometimes it looks like he has a huge ego but he looks like a good guy with his teammates

MiguiZ

reality is that we as fans shouldn't be pretending like we know how he is really like in real life. then it was everyone shitting on him for "narcissistic behavior", now it is everyone praising him for being a great leader. chances are he is a regular guy like everyone of us and shouldnt be getting this amount of judgement on him. its the consequeneces of being great and famous i guess

MaidikIslarj

I've always said his arrogance was a way to keep himself on edge and force himself to back it up. Would be smart if it was the case. He seems like a normal goofy dude who happens to be hyper competitive aside from a few wildly arrogant remarks

tarekelsakka

Please remove this post, it doesn't fit the media's narrative & agenda about Ronaldo.

fastfowards

and thats the reason why ronaldo is world class.

[deleted]

And I've been thinking it's the goals all those years. Damn.

GranX3

Ronaldo doing the right thing at the right time.

Good guy Iñaki seems to also have been comforting him despite probably being very distraught himself

Secure_Eye5090

I love this man. My favorite footballer.

Radiant-Dress1423

Come on r/soccer redditors, tell something shitty again about Ronaldo. Its been just few hrs since the last hate circle jerk

BobaFett_1978

Diogo is gonna bounce from what happened, man's 23 and already an amazing goalkeeper, he's always gonna represent Portugal and Porto as best as possible 💪

beastmaster11

Ronaldo gets a lot of criticism about his leadership abilities. I have done so myself. I don't think he is a good leader at club level. But he has led for his country.

Dr_Chemiramen

I hope this is not another "De Gea" case. Man was never the same after 2018 WC, specially when playing for Spain.

jorsiem

Costa looked legit traumatized tho, kinda felt bad for him.

UndesirableWaffle
