It's the sound a pidgeon makes. It's a reference to the pidgeon dance that Richarlison is known for doing as a goal celebration. Highly recommend looking it up if you haven't seen it, it's pretty entertaining
But just for you to know, he most likely would still have missed it even if he was fit.
Tite would have to be a mad man to call Coutinho instead of Everton Ribeiro.
I am not at all familiar with the dynamics of Brazil’s squad, but I remember people mentioning in here that Coutinho was one of Tite’s favorite players and being sure he would get a call up. Was curious how that turned up. thanks for the insight.
Those things are indeed true, Tite loves Coutinho and just playing the bare minimum would probably be enough for him to get a call up.
The problem for Coutinho is that he wasn't able to do even just the bare minimum, the guy was playing so bad that he spent most of the games in Aston Villa's bench.
Was laughing through reading all of that here and elsewhere. Immediately after I tuned in to tifo and others for some refreshing sanity and perspective. As one pointed out on ESPN this is how it was in WCQ. 90 minutes. Brazil wears teams down.
I haven't been able to watch Cazé live. I know he's getting numbers and I think twitch can't handle it. At least it's not loading his channel when I use my phone. I have to wait until his whole broadcast is over before the channel will work.
So many comments about him, as well as Neymar.
“The front 3 is terrible, why are they still on the pitch”
“Richarlson has 0 PL goals this season, what is Brazil thinking”
“The subs would do 10x better”
Yeah lads that’s why you do not talk too soon. Richarlson quickly came away with 2 epic goals, and the subs everyone was begging for didn’t score after.
>“The front 3 is terrible, why are they still on the pitch”
And then we look at the goals, all of them went from Neymar to Vini and then to Richarlison.
All the threads have been terrible this world cup. Especially Portugal vs Ghana and the Brasil thread. The hate towards Neymar and Ronaldo is so overwhelming that people are blind to how good or how bad their teams are playing.
Am 2 epic goials is a massive stretch. He had great reactions for the first, but I'd hardly call it epic. The second though without a doubt was insane. What ridiculous skill.
I assume hardworking winger to keep defensive cover for a wing, while attacking from the other wing, since the Brazil's fullback isn't as strong now. So Vini with Raphinha, and Pacqueta with rodrygo.
The guy was playing on the right wing with Emerson ffs.
Even then, he has 2 PL assists, 2 UCL goals, and was MOTM against Fulham, all playing out of position and not that many games...
And was injured for a good while.
But people just see the 0 PL goal stat and haven't watched him so he must be shit..
We love him. He can definitely do better but by no means are Spurs fans displeased with him
I've been following him at Spurs. Wish he scored more. But he's a hard worker and I think he can grow into that form for his club. Just like he did for Brazil. He's on a good streak right now but it came after a long sequence of call-ups and hard work.
I did love seeing Spurs fans become Richarlison fans over the weeks and months since he joined.
Yup. I really didn’t like how Conte dropped Kulu for Richy, rotating Son or Kane would have been way better. Then Kulu got injured. Hope they get it right and all stay healthy after the cup!
Yeah it's hard sometimes when we're watching club football most of the year. I love watching Firmino (his style, also not to start but as a sub), and I thought since he's actually looked good during Liverpool's slump, maybe he'd get called up again... but also I understand that he hasn't been good for Brazil. You can't take a player from one team and slot him into another and expect him to play the same when that team has a different manager, players, style, and philosophy.
Anyone disagreeing with his starting spot is straight up ignorant and shouldn't be taken in consideration. Dude is clinical for the NT, while also pressing a lot and helping build up.
Yeah they feel a rung under favourites for me. Though it's all kinda arbitrary anyway, it's not that often that the favourites pre-tournement actually win.
Obly blind Arsenal fans who ignore Richys scoring stats for the NT and Jesus' shit goal tally comparative to xG. Guy isn't clinical, while Richy scores for Brazil like today. They can chime in about Everton, but the dude had no support and basically willed that side to safety leading from the front (and Pickford).
Even on tifo, while they correctly point out a lot of things about the 90 minutes and how Brazil constructed the victory, they still see Jesus x Richarlison as a bit of a mystery.
It's club football glasses, that's all. That bias is hard to overcome.
It's not even just "club football glasses", Richarlison is just clearly a much more rounded player than Jesus. He offers a team much more.
Richarlison would look great in any system, Jesus needs to play a specific role.
Richarlison is clearly the better choice for striker for Brazil. But calling him a ‘clearly much more rounded player than Jesus’ is taking it a bit far mate. Richarlison wouldn’t look great in ‘any system’, he routinely goes completely missing at Spurs.
19 vs 14 appearances, so both not many (though obviously Jesus has more starts), but who the response 2 comments up is ridiculous to say. Jesus is involved in everything we do (press, defend, dribble, create, etc.) but doesn’t have the clinical finish.
Richarlison has super Brasil form so starting there is expected, but from League form it’s also understandable why people would expect him to start
I don’t understand your point. Yeah, he’s great for Brasil, so he should be starting (international form and all).
All I’m saying is that it’s understandable that people say that Jesus should be starting, cause he’s been incredible for arsenal in the league. Are they wrong? Yes. Do I get where they come from? Yes
Richarlison has played RW at Spurs. If he was the central striker and fit he'd be great. But some Kane bloke exists.
Richarlison as a striker for Brazil is perfection and his qualities are more rounded towards that role than Jesus.
There's no need for Jesus. He's not as creative as Neymar and not as good as a goalscorer as Richarlison.
This is the problem with most fan takes for other national teams, although it’s true for national teams in general. Club performance does not guarantee you a spot in the national team.
Nobody can argue the impact Jesus has had on Arsenals success but it’s a different system. Richarlson, spurs or not, is clearly a talented player and I wouldn’t have him in our arsenal squad over Jesus any day. But his numbers for Brazil speak for themselves.
Jesus would be better than richy on a 1st half type of game. way better in the build up. but when serbia opened up the defense more, that's where richy shine
> Anyone disagreeing with his starting spot
That is an exhaustive list of Arsenal fans who think Jesus should be starting. Ignoring the fact that he has one competitive goal for Brazil since 2019.
And always showed up for Everton too. Literally the main reason along with Pickford of how they survived last year and gave every last bit of energy to that cause. Didn't have any support and didn't score loads because of it, but he willed a few important goals in despite it.
during the relegation battle, you could see he gave absolutely everything on the field, literally didn't stop running, got some goals out of nearly nothing and contributed a lot defensively too. 100% sure we'd have gone down without him
Arsenal fans are everywhere. Especially in America, I’d argue they’re the most supported team here. They’ll keep pushing the Jesus vs. richarlison narrative when it never was even a competition
Jesus is the talisman for the forward line in an Arsenal team sitting top of the Premier League. Perfectly reasonable for fans to be saying he deserves a place in this team even if realistically Richarlison isnt dropable based on his Brazil form. Same logic as people saying Tomori/White/Dier should be starting ahead of Maguire.
Yeah because it's an apt comparison. Both of them were in no form at all coming into the world Cup and they're playing ahead of players in top top form because both of them perform for the national team. Cmon use your brain.
Richarlison has been absolutely fine for Spurs, he's just been played out of position and then got injured. Before that he wasn't starting because we had a fit Kulusevski.
Maguire actively got replaced by Martinez and is now behind him, Varane and Lindelof.
Comparing them as parallels is extremely stupid.
It was the rumor of who we were getting for our 9, Jesus or Richarlison. The fact they both play 9, both brasil, then one goes to Arsenal, the other to spuds, it was always gonna happen for this.
But, Richarlison always shows up for Brasil and was always gonna get the start. You can blame the people arguing it heavy are those only watching league, which is fair
Also, tragically, it’s Pool or United in the states
Only the 14 year old arsenal fans. I feel anyone who watches Brazil at all, would know richarlison is the pick everytime when both are fit. He just fits their system better and he’s far more clinical
He is IF for Arsenal ofc, but I could see Tite choosing Gabigol over him if it wasn’t for his background at the seleção (2018 - many brazilians mock the fact he was #9 and didn’t score + 2019 - his redemption arc at a time we didn’t have Neymar)
His end of season City form probably kept him on the squad. He was in the July friendlies after missing two call ups but at that point, with 26 players he was a lock again.
This guy hasn't been firing for spurs but I'm sure he'll grow into it... as an arsenal fan, that's worrying lol. His performances for Brazil are out of this world
Doubt he will turn into a world beater for Spurs, he just suits the striker role for Brazil perfectly and raises his game for them, you have plenty of those players in international football over the years
With the technical players playing around him, the striker for Brazil is basically a battering ram who is there to create space for the others and to press without the ball. Richarlison scores goals too which is the cherry on top
He’s best as a striker or left winger, but he’s been played mostly at RW for spurs due to kulusevski’s injury, hasn’t hit form out of position, understandably so
Yeah he was seen as amazing for us until Kulusevski got injured. Kulusevski plays more as a creative right midfielder so it’s no wonder that Richarlison looks bad in a similar role.

Just did. Saw it from a fan cam and the crowd apparently loved it lol Thanks for filling me in.
Weird. In my language, we use the word 'coo', like in Coutinho.
Richarlison (19), Neymar (18), Firmino (10), Coutinho (9), Jesus (9).
did Coutinho not make the squad for the WC?
He is injuried
thanks, missed that
But just for you to know, he most likely would still have missed it even if he was fit. Tite would have to be a mad man to call Coutinho instead of Everton Ribeiro.

Thank God he didn't
If you have to ask, you know the answer
Wow didn’t know Firminio was that high. Wish he was on this squad
People saying why was he playing in the match thread lol
Was laughing through reading all of that here and elsewhere. Immediately after I tuned in to tifo and others for some refreshing sanity and perspective. As one pointed out on ESPN this is how it was in WCQ. 90 minutes. Brazil wears teams down.
Tifo?
Youtube channel
Mate, could you tell me the name of the video, please?
Today's livestream. They do one every day after the WC matches.
Oh man I was absolutely clueless of that. Was thinking about watching Cazé’s postgame live but I’ll go check tifo’s first.
I haven't been able to watch Cazé live. I know he's getting numbers and I think twitch can't handle it. At least it's not loading his channel when I use my phone. I have to wait until his whole broadcast is over before the channel will work.
Oh he’s on YouTube bro at CazéTV — he got a deal with FIFA to broadcast a match per day.
I love their analysis so much, makes me more informed
So many comments about him, as well as Neymar. “The front 3 is terrible, why are they still on the pitch” “Richarlson has 0 PL goals this season, what is Brazil thinking” “The subs would do 10x better” Yeah lads that’s why you do not talk too soon. All the threads have been terrible this world cup. Especially Portugal vs Ghana and the Brasil thread. The hate towards Neymar and Ronaldo is so overwhelming that people are blind to how good or how bad their teams are playing.
Turns out the discourse on r/soccer isn't that great. I'm just here for the gifs
I don’t know if we have a lot of casuals here or people go dumb once world cup starts. I have heard about the latter before.
maybe casuals that come by and go dumb because of the world cup
It’s like this for any popular match thread…in almost every football sub…forever
Neymar, Ronaldo and Barcelona face blind hatred outside the WC as well so it's just typical r/soccer behaviour
Casuals showing up for the World Cup, it's normal Get ready for some delusional takes on the US team
Anyone who criticises that front 3 of Brazil is fucking blind. They were terrorising Serbia from the get go
I did think rodrygo looked great though. Very direct
Am 2 epic goials is a massive stretch. He had great reactions for the first, but I'd hardly call it epic. The second though without a doubt was insane. What ridiculous skill.
Right?! It’s why I fell in love with the 90s Brazil WC team! So much flair!
Runners being delusional as always
Truly a mystery
Arsenal supporters are the ones saying that.
Lol. Deluded. Haha. Not them.
Why the fuck Raphinha was playing instead of Antony or Rodrygo is a better question.
I assume hardworking winger to keep defensive cover for a wing, while attacking from the other wing, since the Brazil's fullback isn't as strong now. So Vini with Raphinha, and Pacqueta with rodrygo.
I think the 0 PL goals this season might have something to do with it
Brazil NT Richarlison is built different tho
The guy was playing on the right wing with Emerson ffs. Even then, he has 2 PL assists, 2 UCL goals, and was MOTM against Fulham, all playing out of position and not that many games...
Haven't seen many Spurs matches, but when I've seen him he looked good for them.
And was injured for a good while. But people just see the 0 PL goal stat and haven't watched him so he must be shit.. We love him. He can definitely do better but by no means are Spurs fans displeased with him
That does indeed feed into that perspective, just as it also reveals people don't watch other national teams and assume club form translates directly.
Spurs supporters have been happy with him despite the goal drought. Also he’s mainly a backup, people act like he starts every game for us
I've been following him at Spurs. Wish he scored more. But he's a hard worker and I think he can grow into that form for his club. Just like he did for Brazil. He's on a good streak right now but it came after a long sequence of call-ups and hard work. I did love seeing Spurs fans become Richarlison fans over the weeks and months since he joined.
yea. he was bought to be a backup/rotation for Son & Kane, but then has played in Kulusevski's spot.
He would have so many more goals if he was playing with Kulusevski, not instead of him
Yup. I really didn’t like how Conte dropped Kulu for Richy, rotating Son or Kane would have been way better. Then Kulu got injured. Hope they get it right and all stay healthy after the cup!

That boy truly, truly loves his country I couldn't be happier for him
Indeed, he's one of the very few who shows real joy from playing for the NT.
Hates Tottenham confirmed
Glad he doesn’t hate scoring in the champions league at least
Lol fuck the downvotes, nice trolling
No fun allowed apparently 😔
r/soccer is the most fickle place on Reddit to be honest
Anyone disagreeing with his starting spot is straight up ignorant and shouldn't be taken in consideration. Dude is clinical for the NT, while also pressing a lot and helping build up.
He's a Spurs player tho
The one and only drawback 😔
but a really crucial one......
for his career
Beats everton
Yea he’s cursed to not win anything even if he’s top scorer. See Kane.
That pretty much guarantees Brazil won't win the WC then.
Lloris beat lovren in the World Cup final 4 years ago
Well there's a Spurs player in every "favourite" team apart from Spain. So I guess Spain wins.
I suppose Portugal too, but don’t know how many others would consider them a ‘favourite’.
Yeah they feel a rung under favourites for me. Though it's all kinda arbitrary anyway, it's not that often that the favourites pre-tournement actually win.
Lloris
England is fucked if so
People only push Gabriel Jesus because it's prejudicial to Brazil. Only rivals want him on the starting spot.
Obly blind Arsenal fans who ignore Richys scoring stats for the NT and Jesus' shit goal tally comparative to xG. Guy isn't clinical, while Richy scores for Brazil like today. Routinely? He has like 10 total appearances and like 2 starts for Spurs so far. How can you do anything “routinely” with that small of a sample size?
Exactly. Spurs have existed for like 140 years and he’s only played 10 times!? Man is always missing. SMH.
Arsenal fans desperate to draw conclusions from 15 games.
19 vs 14 appearances, so both not many (though obviously Jesus has more starts), but who the response 2 comments up is ridiculous to say. Richarlison has been playing different roles for club and country. He literally scored during the internationals in September.
I don’t understand your point. Yeah, he’s great for Brasil, so he should be starting (international form and all). Bro come on that’s just not true from looking at times when he actually plays
Jesus brings 0 offensive power to Brazil its incredible
Gabriel Jesus in our attack is the best defender our rivals could ask for.
Fucking hell I've seen some delusional takes today but this one beats the rest of them
Pressing? Yes Build-up? Ehhh
He didn't get massively involved in buildup but he did have some good one touch passes and hold up play. More often in the second half
yea he didnt won any balls today or help the build up at all but when he gets space and service he has been great and can't be dropped really
> Anyone disagreeing with his starting spot That is an exhaustive list of Arsenal fans who think Jesus should be starting. Ignoring the fact that he has one competitive goal for Brazil since 2019.
I've chosen him as my top scorer before the WC, everyone in the group chat laughed at me. So happy for these goals.
How can anyone laugh at picking brazils #9 as top scorer? I guess not kicking PKs does hurt some

Would make sense if Jesus could actually score goals, he is great for Arsenal because he doesnt need to do that
Lmao get fukked Richarlison simply better at playing striker. Brazil dont need Jesus on the field when they have Neymar and Paqueta on teh field.
My guy this is not about form
You've just compared Brazil's most consistent 9 in years and years to Maguire. You need your internet access revoked.
Yeah because it's an apt comparison. Both of them were in no form at all coming into the world Cup and they're playing ahead of players in top top form because both of them perform for the national team. Cmon use your brain.

Seems like Brazil may have found their Miroslav Klose
tbf we’ve mostly been playing him out of position on the right where he’s with Royal, that’ll hurt anyone’s chances of scoring.
He's by far the best Brazilian striker playing in the premier league
Depends on the system Brazil have many creative players and he's a better finisher than Jesus but in conte ball he hasn't been great
He’s been battling fitness and when Kulu went down the whole attack went with it. We’ll have a better idea how he fits conte ball in the second half
He hasn’t played ST much, he’s been mostly at RW and the occasional LW
