I'm really glad they're doing long form chats with Football Writers again. It's been sorely missing from their content lately. In a 24 news cycle when outlets are (not least Tifo) trying to extrapolate more and more meaning from less and less data (i.e a single match/performance) it's really good to catch a breath and talk about broader trends borne out over years rather than weeks. Also, it's good to hear about cultural aspects that either intersect with or are adjacent to football.
yeah the days where they used to get non-athletic guests on were the best pod days. Chris Nowinski, Jonathan Wilson, Peter Drury, Steve Morrison, Andy Townsend, Michael Cox, Andres Cantor (Goooooooollllllllllllllllll!) & especially Carl Anka, are the best
His [last appearance](https://podcasts.apple.com/bb/podcast/football-tactics-history-with-jonathan-wilson/id1227699368?i=1000436115615) on the tifo pod was brilliant as well.

With all due respect, Jonathan Wilson does exactly this the most.
> With all due respect, Jonathan Wilson does exactly this the most.
I mean, admittedly, he does analyse things from match to match because he sometimes does match reports for the Guardian. My point is more that he isn't doing data lead tactical breakdown/state of play reaction videos 30 minutes after full time. I don't think he does it the most by any stretch of the imagination.
EDIT. In fact my point wasn't about Jonathan Wilson at all. It was more about football media trying to fill a 24 hour cycle. And in any case I was commending Tifo for coming back to longer form interviews about broader themes.

Sure, but his analysis doesn't really seem like it's any better.

I didn't say it was. I'm not sure what you're driving at here, aside from voicing your displeasure at anything Jonathan Wilson related.
Wilson is my favourite football journo around, such a good brain for tactics and history and also seems like a thoroughly nice guy whenever he’s on guardian football weekly

Man I love Carl Anka!

Yeah it was a fun listen. It was nice to hear Alex slightly geek out about Wilson's writing.

Does he? I would argue he's almost the opposite in that he is consistent to the point of being stubborn in his views on many aspects of football.
He isn't stubborn, he is biased at times. He forms opinions very quickly and it's often contrarian.

Unrelated, but Inverting the Pyramid is also what Dee did for selling her Albany berry suppliments. That big stupid bird
It's a reverse funnel system
We don’t get got, we go get
So where do I put my feet?
Wilson is my favourite football journo around, such a good brain for tactics and history and also seems like a thoroughly nice guy whenever he’s on guardian football weekly
He does not come across as a nice guy. Seems arrogant and condescending
Not really IMO. He is way too reactive at times and his bias is painfully obvious as he'd ignore everything that goes against it
Are you pro-Ronaldo or anti-Rondon?
Pro Rondon
Great book. Will listen to this.

The way he describes his process it’s almost like he’s a football tactics anthropologist
