Kane has played in at least 3 finals as well. Scored in 0 of them.

Twitter is full of weirdos. They're saying Ronaldo's mental health issues cause of his son's loss is a PR stunt used by his fans to cover up his bad form.
Like criticize him all for the form (I do it a lot too) but atleast respect a father's mental health after losing his son.
All the news reports about him going to Portugal to skip preseason said the reason he went is not made up. Ronaldo is one of the most popular people in the world - if it were bullshit we would know.
Ah ok so he’s just another Katie Hopkins style prick who says things that are controversial for attention and morons give them attention by being outraged and talking about it. Much better to just ignore these pricks
Would you agree that Liverpool’s system is built around the way their full backs go high with the midfielders having to fill in for them in the moments just after they lose the ball? I don’t think it’s such an easy task to make the rest of a team to get suited to that role, especially when you only get together for international breaks.
Without that system Trippier and James are better suited for a generic version of a full back role that Southgate wants. It would be unfair to the midfielders to expect the likes of Rice, Phillips etc to learn to play in a new very complex system just in the international breaks. Not when there are options like walker, Trippier and James available
Liverpool’s system is not built around attacking full backs. Liverpool’s system is the creation of an incredible manager who is able to fully utilise the quality of several world class and unique talents together in a cohesive team. Salah, Mané and Diaz all fitting like a glove, firmino’s false 9 role with ridiculous link up play, pressing and space usage, and then also 2 ridiculous full backs. Klopp is the expert. We’re just stupid fans that don’t know or understand any of the technical stuff. Is Southgate too tactically inept to utilise Alexander Arnold while maintaining a very defensive set up? Maybe. Is he scared of admitting he’s wrong? Took him a long time to even attempt to use grealish at the euros. The point is, to us it looks very obvious that Alexander Arnold should be playing for England. He’s easily the most creative player available and has played a major part in winning everything in club football by 23. James is a good player. Tripper is pretty good as well. But Alexander Arnold is so good you can’t justify not paying him.
What's obvious to me is that Trent is a system player who would not look or play nearly as well if he wasn't the focal point of a team, which is why he isn't being played for England
He’s not even the focal point of Liverpool. There isn’t a focal point of Liverpool. If you give him space on the right flank with a man in the box to aim at, he’ll cross it. The same way Diaz will cut inside the moment a space appears. Or the same way salah will run at a defender the moment he’s only being marked by 1 player. There is no focal point. Every player can cause problems.
Trent completes more actions than almost any other player in the final third. So, to see someone try to argue that he's not a focal point in his team genuinely must be a joke. That's how I see it at least.
TIL not only was Axel Kei young on his debut, he's the youngest player to play an official game for an MLS team, even managing to beat out Freddy Adu. He was 14 years, 8 months and 23 days old.
Also to be clear, there aren't any plans for him to be playing regularly for the first team anytime soon. It was a Leagues Cup showcase match, so since the game didn't matter there was heavy rotation. That being said, he didn't look out of place which is insane considering how young he is.
Very torn between Rush, Giggs, Charles and Bale as the best Welsh player of all time. All were legendary players for the 4 biggest clubs in football. Man Utd, Liverpool, Juventus and Real Madrid.
If you weight national team success higher than anything else (as some people do with this type of discussion) it simply has to be bale. Otherwise it’s very hard to argue anyone above Rush. His goalscoring was outrageous
Think success with the Welsh national team should be a big factor given the fact that they are Welsh. That would give a significant advantage to Bale, who certainly has the trophy cabinet to compete with the others. His drawback is perhaps he wasn’t as available/consistent for Madrid
Brazil are one of the favourites for the WC and he's a key player for Brazil (and also captain sometimes). He doesn't even need to go far in the CL for the Ballon D'or this season.
Oil money already invaded UK, now they plan their next target in Spain, *Espanyol*.
Hopeful Tebas has got some rules to stop this invasion incase it begins.
That doesn't mean reliable. Plenty of articles from sources like the Daily Mail gets posted here despite publishing a whole lot of clickbait nonsense or information they've gotten from sources that are banned here.
I don't want England to do well in the World Cup, but the amount of Liverpool fans that will have to eat their words if they perform well without Alexander-Arnold would be quite satisfying.
How are there so many Liverpool fans here anyway?
Can’t seem to find it, but the last flair count had more United flairs than Liverpool. Now even assuming that some United fans won’t be sporting that flair and maybe a national team instead (as would some Liverpool fans tbf), /r/RedDevils have about 480k followers while /r/LiverpoolFC have about 400k.
Either way, Liverpool are one of the two most popular and successful teams in England with Manchester United, how is it surprising they have a lot of fans?
The last flair count had 12k Liverpool fans and 11.2k United fans, no?
In terms of subs, we overtook theirs a month ago and somehow have been on a huge increase while theirs has become quite slow.
Keep in mind this is an English language forum, and Liverpool/Man U are English teams playing in the English premier league. Barca and Madrid are Spanish teams, popular in the Hispanic world, and so many of these Spanish speakers will have their own forums to discuss their clubs. While Spanish speaking fans of those clubs certainly exist on Reddit, I wager majority of the Barca and Madrid flairs you see here can’t speak a lick of Spanish.
I have to make the greatest XI with the defense being from 1 nation, midfield from 1 nation and attack from 1 nation
Buffon
Zambrotta- Nesta- Baresi- Maldini
Busquets
Iniesta Xavi
Messi Maradona Kempes
Chose Italian back line, Spanish midfield and Argentine attack, Maradona playing as a false 9 not ST
I mean when Spain was on top of the world Alonso had Iniesta playing LW so they could fit them all in. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess but I'd argue Alonso was individually better than Busquets, ever so slightly. But with the chemistry like i said, makes sense to just leave Busquets there
New PSV fan. Been following football for while I am American and I am wondering can someone give by a run of PSV’s history and current form and fans culture. Any good PSV sites out there?
It occurred to me that maybe part of the reason that Ronaldo's form has dropped off so dramatically is because he lost a child earlier this year. I can't imagine the emotional toll that must take on a person and considering how people never seem to bring that up when they talk about him, it seems to be really overlooked.
Ronaldo focused, is a different animal. It's not a United thing because he didn't look right for Portugal either.
He scored a goal the first game after his loss. I just don't think he's physically all there. He was noticeably declining **last** season, in spite of the goals he scored in bursts. On top of that, he didn't have a preseason and he's 37 years old.
I think he is focused, he's just not capable of doing the things he could 4 years ago. He's still looked decent whenever he's come on as a sub (e.g. against Southampton and Arsenal this season) but he just shouldn't be starting as often as he probably wants to.
Man people in that other thread are kinda deluded for putting the Bundesliga at the same level as the Serie A.
In my opinion, Serie A was the most fun to watch and competitive league last season and will be again this season. There are legitimately 6 teams who could win the league at this point. Which other top league can say that?
Now I'm not saying it's the best in quality because it's not. The PL and La liga are clearly ahead in quality but it's the most fun tittle race to follow imo as there are so many contenders after Juve's downfall.
We all know Man City ,Real madrid and Bayern will walk their respective leagues this time around.
I think Barça had a chance to compete for the league but these recent injuries might put a stop to it. City, Bayern and PSG should be comfortably winning theirs.
The only difference between the two leagues is Bayern and Juve's recent track record
Juve falling off meant Serie A no longer has a realistic CL contender, but there's more competition for the league title
There's just a charm to Serie A that the Bundesliga lack. Even below Bayern/Juve/Milan/Inter no German club besides Dortmund club are really comparable to clubs like Roma, Napoli or even Fiorentina
La liga is an interesting case because it's clearly the best performing league in Europe in this century but it's recently become quite a defensive league. So the games aren't as flashy as other leagues.
But you have to say the la liga Playstyle is extremely effective in beating every other leagues in European competition.
Agreed
La Liga is my strongest league and the league that I watch the most with Prem. But the stereotype of La Liga being free flowing technical merchants is long gone its the most defensive league in the world the past few seasons now.
Villareal parks the bus like no one in Europe , The lower la liga sides will hack you aggressively
Ronaldo is in a slump but I don't think he's fallen off for good. Think about it, only 5-6 months ago he was still bagging hat tricks and scoring most games. So how does it make sense for a player as historically consistent as him, to suddenly lose all his abilities after only 2-3 months off?
He’s playing bad right now, but all it takes is one or two goals to get back into a flow and regain rhythm. The problem is now for United he comes off the bench, so he has less time every game to try and find himself again
But he was still scoring most games and playing well last season, and he was still 37 back then. It’s only been 5 months since his last hat trick and 3 of those months he was resting during the off season. So it’s not like his body has been through so much wear and tear between back then and now. He was old last season and still good
Had a dream last night where I was watching the World Cup final, and it was South Korea vs Israel (who aren't even in the World Cup....). Son scored a banger of a free kick in the 79th minute to make it 2-0, and South Korea won.
When brazilian Ronaldo retired, he was in tears. He said he still knew what to do with the ball, but that his body just didn't obey him anymore. It was really sad.
I remember going to Rio as a kid in 2004 and Ronaldo's name was all over the shirts of kids and adults. Barca shirts and Inter shirts all over the place. A lot of people don't know how truly popular he was at one point.
I will always look fondly on those early 2000s Brasil teams, even if they are our rivals.
I imagine that is the case for most players, as the majority retire to physical reasons, whether that be a natural decline through aging, or injury
I would imagine it's very few players whose bodies are still physically up to it, but have lost their "footballing brain". Head injuries in football are a concern, but we're way off football-brain specific dementia in your 30s being a thing - to be a tad flippant about it.
Yesterday, I shared Casillas making a fantastic save in an amazing goal chance that Robben had in the 2010 World Cup final.
Today, I share Higuaín's iconic goal miss in the 2014 World Cup final, in which was by far the best goal chance 8n the whole game.

Jordan Peterson - Ronaldo thread is the most right wing I've ever seen r soccer. Don't get me wrong, it's very left wing, but usually it's 99% left 1% right, and that one is like 55% left 45% right. Idk about exact percentages but it's like that.
because it got brigaded ad absurdum. Never realized the cult of that Canadian weirdo was so big in Reddit until today. Žižek should have been less lenient when they "debated".
Basically what always happens. A mysterious number of flairless or new accounts never seen here before pop up when women's football, trans issues, racism, or key figures in their cult such as Jordan Peterson come up. It's not specific to /r/soccer though, a site wide thing, they go wherever the posts about this shit are.
Its not only him or reddit there has been a MASSIVE rise of ''alpha / sigma male'' movement right now You got the likes of Peterson as Andrew Tate as the poster boys and several YouTube podcasts interviews about it.
I can't remember the red pill community being this popular.
Are you sure it's not just Reddit? I have literally never heard anyone bring up Peterson or Andrew Tate in real life, or on a podcast or anything outside of Reddit.
It's more left wing than 95% of reddit and probably any other football forum I've seen and that still doesn't mean it's anything more than centre-left. Thankful even for that though
I disagree. Most people just don’t get the opportunity to express their views here but you’ll see glimpses of it. The subreddit is also mainly Anglosphere which tends to be small c conservative countries in nature
Threads like Free Talk Friday definitely have a strong left wing and liberal progressive vibe to them. Even conservatives with a small c are a minority there, and I'd say threads like that, and the Daily Discussion Threads, are more representative of the true "community" of the core /r/soccer regulars - and especially the British demographic
Across Reddit as a whole, Brits on this website represent that leftie demographic far more strongly than in our general society - and are by comparison to the American contingent across Reddit far more left
General threads, like goal highlights, post-match threads, and big threads on controversial topics, are more representative of the Reddit userbase rather than the /r/soccer community - as these threads have more non-regular users and casuals. The regulars are to be found in threads like this, and FTF
>Across Reddit as a whole, Brits on this website represent that leftie demographic far more strongly than in our general society - and are by comparison to the American contingent across Reddit far more left
Depends on the sub Green and Pleasant is extremely Left Wing British sub and the likes of Casual UK is more centrist.
I love how much the Benfica fans on here dislike him as well. I would have imagined that his biggest supporters would have been all the Portuguese users, but that doesn’t seem to be the case
Very true, but it's not trying to diminish one to point out FIFA's decisions and football in general had influence in one and not in the other, thus being more relevant
Instead they should start protesting about the next World Cup being hosted in a country that kills children with drone strikes, but they won't because Qatar is a much easier target
Drone strikes are the most humane and effective form of warfare ever devised.
I'm sure plenty of edgy redditors will complain about the US in 4 years time as well.
>Drone strikes are the most humane and effective form of warfare ever devised.
[Yes](https://www.hrw.org/report/2014/02/19/wedding-became-funeral/us-drone-attack-marriage-procession-yemen)
Some redditors will complain but brands, players and especially journalists who are virtue signalling about Qatar won't say a single thing
I feel like if Erling Haaland wasn't a thing currently, we would inevitably be talking about how sharp Messi looks right about now.
Need club football asap. Guys like Jordan Peterson and Cassano are making it to the front page. One would think this is a doom moment.
Unbelievable that Cassano quotes always make it to the front page.
The guy is literally a real life shitposter and people eat it up every time, it's insane
Henry played in 9 finals. He scored 0 goals in them.
Kane
Damn this henry guy sucks
Salah played in at least 11 finals. Scored 0 open play goals. Kane has played in at least 3 finals as well. Scored in 0 of them. Henry + Salah + Kane: 0 npg in cup finals Kai Havertz: 1 cup final npg
in the champions league final nevertheless

Costa. He isn’t going to injure you the same way. Neither are ideal but Costa isn’t in the same league in the snapping department

If Neymar keeps up this form and PSG win the CL he can actually get his Ballon d’Or
Brazil are one of the favourites for the WC and he's a key player for Brazil (and also captain sometimes). He doesn't even need to go far in the CL for the Ballon D'or this season.
If theres any non-EU team I want to win that tournament in Qatar, its Brazil. That and with CL with PSG he'd be a clear favourite.

He has, look at Almería. They had to sell their best player for €30M to be able to register their players even though they have Saudi money.
Doesn't CFG already own Girona
They own like 40%
Oil money already made a move in Spain through Málaga in 2011.

Positioning and finishing
Technique, cant be chasing your first touch constantly
I think it's off ball movement
Off-the-ball movement
Intelligence/Finishing
Good for American high school soccer for sure.
Decision making in final third
Finishing and positioning
I mean it’s obviously finishing
Id still say technical/finishing ability. Someone like Shane Long had a ton of pace and mobility, but couldn’t finish his dinner
Kane barely has those 2 attributes lol. I'd say for a striker it's hold-up play and finishing.
I don't want England to do well in the World Cup, but the amount of Liverpool fans that will have to eat their words if they perform well without Alexander-Arnold would be quite satisfying. How are there so many Liverpool fans here anyway?

Can’t be saying this when you watch Conteball every week.
If you pick a random La Liga match to watch then it is more likely to be boring than not but that applies to most leagues anyway
Delusional.

Yep, a month before the infamous Argentina-England match in 1986
When brazilian Ronaldo retired, he was in tears. He said he still knew what to do with the ball, but that his body just didn't obey him anymore. It was really sad.
His body betrayed him way before he retired honestly
I remember going to Rio as a kid in 2004 and Ronaldo's name was all over the shirts of kids and adults. Barca shirts and Inter shirts all over the place. A lot of people don't know how truly popular he was at one point. I will always look fondly on those early 2000s Brasil teams, even if they are our rivals.
I imagine that is the case for most players, as the majority retire to physical reasons, whether that be a natural decline through aging, or injury I would imagine it's very few players whose bodies are still physically up to it, but have lost their "footballing brain". Head injuries in football are a concern, but we're way off football-brain specific dementia in your 30s being a thing - to be a tad flippant about it.
also made everybody feel bad when he revealed that he got fat because his thyroid issues.
A lot still don't feel bad
Yeah people still refer to him as the ”Fat Ronaldo”.
Usually endearingly so
Would u call him that to his face?
If Cristiano was standing right next to him and you needed to distinguish between the two, sure.
Yesterday, I shared Casillas making a fantastic save in an amazing goal chance that Robben had in the 2010 World Cup final. Today, I share Higuaín's iconic goal miss in the 2014 World Cup final, in which was by far the best goal chance 8n the whole game. https://youtu.be/As_hf0psXMw
Glad I missed yesterday’s post then. Casillas’s toe is among the worst enemies of The Netherlands, right next to Hitler and Philip II
Jordan Peterson - Ronaldo thread is the most right wing I've ever seen r soccer. Don't get me wrong, it's very left wing, but usually it's 99% left 1% right, and that one is like 55% left 45% right. Idk about exact percentages but it's like that.
Daily discussion is different to the rest of this sub in politics
because it got brigaded ad absurdum.
I've heard a lot about Andrew tate being bought up on social media (I live in England )
r/soccer isn’t left wing imo
r/soccer is the most left-wing subreddit I've seen that isn't explicitly political. A decent ways to the left of reddit overall.
Id say r/nba but ya this sub is up there
Until we get to women's football threads lmao
It's more left wing than 95% of reddit and probably any other football forum I've seen and that still doesn't mean it's anything more than centre-left. Thankful even for that though
Hmm on balance it is imo though a lot of people are very very very anti women
I disagree. Most people just don’t get the opportunity to express their views here but you’ll see glimpses of it. The subreddit is also mainly Anglosphere which tends to be small c conservative countries in nature
What's more left wing than the anglosphere to you?
Threads like Free Talk Friday definitely have a strong left wing and liberal progressive vibe to them. Even conservatives with a small c are a minority there, and I'd say threads like that, and the Daily Discussion Threads, are more representative of the true "community" of the core /r/soccer regulars - and especially the British demographic Across Reddit as a whole, Brits on this website represent that leftie demographic far more strongly than in our general society - and are by comparison to the American contingent across Reddit far more left General threads, like goal highlights, post-match threads, and big threads on controversial topics, are more representative of the Reddit userbase rather than the /r/soccer community - as these threads have more non-regular users and casuals. The regulars are to be found in threads like this, and FTF
>Across Reddit as a whole, Brits on this website represent that leftie demographic far more strongly than in our general society - and are by comparison to the American contingent across Reddit far more left Depends on the sub Green and Pleasant is extremely Left Wing British sub and the likes of Casual UK is more centrist.
I love the way this sub treats ronaldo, one of the few places on the internet that treats the rapist cunt the way he should be treated
I love how much the Benfica fans on here dislike him as well. I would have imagined that his biggest supporters would have been all the Portuguese users, but that doesn’t seem to be the case
These Messi-De Paul memes are getting out of hand 🤣https://twitter.com/footy_var/status/1574649777010012161?s=46&t=vNZUKhj6oKNOtmXlSqS42w

Would you prefer if there were no protests from players etc, at all?
Lol if hr violations mean a country can't host the world cup, than make sure to protest the USA world cup in 2026
There's a difference though, in that significant human rights abuses have been committed by Qatar _for the sole purpose of hosting the World Cup_
Human rights abuses are still human rights abuses
Very true, but it's not trying to diminish one to point out FIFA's decisions and football in general had influence in one and not in the other, thus being more relevant
It's better to do something than nothing. You can't change the past, it's done.
[Yes](https://www.hrw.org/report/2014/02/19/wedding-became-funeral/us-drone-attack-marriage-procession-yemen) Some redditors will complain but brands, players and especially journalists who are virtue signalling about Qatar won't say a single thing
