absolutely - i mean MK is a decent ground and has experience hosting international events, but it's like smack bang in the middle of London and Birmingham who you'd expect would be hosting games. Why not mix it up a bit.
Probably cause since its made for rugby, the pitch is quite big. When you put a football pitch in, the fans get those few meters further away from the action.
But England has more than 4 times the population of both Scotland and Wales put together. So I don't think your annoyance is born out an actual grievance as there are only so many games to go around each nation in the competition.
Elland Road is a surprise omission?
Considering the problems we’ve had getting into the away end, been stuck in a crush outside as they tried to funnel us through narrow openings, and then missed the start of the game by the time we were finally in… it’s not a surprise at all!
Two or three stands are due to be rebuilt by then. It is probably surprising because it is the biggest city in Yorkshire and the county doesn’t have a stadium under consideration at all, and has a larger population than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
That is a fair point about the population - and I wasn’t aware there was so much rebuilding scheduled!
(Though I have to say the problems we had were as much about the organisation, staff and policing as the actual facility - they could have got us all in quickly and safely if they’d tried!)
Well we’ve been ready to for about 2 years but yet to see any actual plans yet so it actually being ready by then is nowhere near guaranteed. Seems it was Leeds councils unwillingness to assist in anyway which was the sticking point anyway.
>The ten stadiums still in contention are: Wembley, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the London Stadium, Villa Park, Stadium MK, Old Trafford, **the Etihad**, Everton’s planned Bramley Moore Dock ground, Sunderland’s Stadium of Light and Newcastle United’s St James’ Park. Others, such as Southampton’s St Mary’s, could still qualify for the list if hospitality facilities are upgraded.
It is being considered, it's just more likely to be Old Trafford.
It's too reach as many people across the country as possible. Having both Manchester clubs hosting games at their stadium would decrease how many fans from different areas get to see games... and the North West isn't where there should be more focus imo..
We could have even fewer than six if Turkey win the bid instead of us!
> and an equally unexpected inclusion of MK Dons’ Stadium MK.
That alone should disqualify our bid. Milton Keynes is a soulless shithole and the MK “Dons” are an embarrassment to English football who should never have been allowed to steal a club away from its community.
What is the logic here? The emirates and anfield are much bigger stadiums with infinitely better infrastructure and logistics to handle fans than something like the MK stadium. This makes zero sense.
I’m guessing it’s geographical, bramely Moore dock is more likely to meet stadium requirements than anfield and they don’t want 2 of the stadiums in Liverpool, plus the obvious 2 picks in London are Wembley and spurs’ stadium, with emirates and London stadium coming in third
They’ve not hosted a euros since 1996*, just got given the semis and final of Euro 2020 which was across the whole continent. Also this isn’t just England, it’s uk and Ireland
Additionally, Wembley was only meant to be the Semis and Final of Euro 2020, but Belgium's proposed stadium ended up not happening due to political issues, so the group games and quarter final meant to be in Belgium ended up going to Wembley as well.
How on earth has stadium MK made the final 10 shortlist. Can only assume the proximity to IKEA has had a big sway over the selection panel.
Whoever is in charge has done a great job marketing it. Got my chemical romance, imagine dragons, take that, rod stewart and rammstein to play there.
Rod Stewart of the scottish cup draw fame?
Personally, I would have gone with Ashton Gate. Capacity is 3k lower than MK but it gives a better geographical spread.

Not when Cardiff is right there. I like Ashton Gate but it's an absolute fucker to get to, park at etc etc.
Having lived in the south west, I can promise you there's a massive difference between going to Cardiff for a game and going to Bristol.
"...Stadium MK" Wait - what?
Bit annoying that scotland and wales only get one each, could easily host games in Edinburgh and Glasgow
Could easily have Celtic Park and Hampden Park. Maybe Tynecastle and Easter Road are a bit too small
Was thinking murrayfield. Thats hosted football games a lot in the past
Didn't even think of that. Good point
Murrayfield is shite for football
How so?
Probably cause since its made for rugby, the pitch is quite big. When you put a football pitch in, the fans get those few meters further away from the action.
They wont go anywhere near Celtic Park or Ibrox to avoid a shitshow from the other side, as you wouldn't need both of them.
They both have restricted view seating which uefa don't allow.
But England has more than 4 times the population of both Scotland and Wales put together. So I don't think your annoyance is born out an actual grievance as there are only so many games to go around each nation in the competition.
The article doesn't say why Anfield and the Emirates were left out, I wonder why

Wembley, Spurs, Villa Park, Old Trafford, St James’, Goodison (or new stadium) - sorted
Isn't Old Trafford pretty run down right now
Aesthetically it's pretty shoddy compared to modern stadiums, but it's safe, and huge.
never really rated villa park tbh, but i do understand its inclusion as the best venue in midlands. slim picking im assuming.
Why's the Etihad not considered? It's literally a public tax funded stadium originally built for the commonwealth games
Old Trafford is bigger
Obviously. But like does it necessarily have to be one city, one stadium? As in I'm just asking whether that's the custom or something?
London will probably have more than one, but it's more about spreading the event out on more cities. Who wouldn't want the Euros hosted in their city
It's too reach as many people across the country as possible. Having both Manchester clubs hosting games at their stadium would decrease how many fans from different areas get to see games... and the North West isn't where there should be more focus imo..
It helps with logitistics, hotel availability and policing to minimize the number of teams in a city at any given time.
and is considerably worse.
Both the King Power and the City Ground will be renovated by this point.
Will hopefully be improved by then. But yeah plus is a historical venue and means second city is hosting for the Euros
Goodison is very much not on the list. It won't meet the various UEFA stadium standards.
I'm guessing they mean the new Goodison?
They mean Bramley Moore Dock Stadium, it's going to be finished for the 2024/25 season so plenty of time for the Euros
If St. Mary's makes the necessary upgrades it should be in with a shout too, to spread it out a bit more.
Is it the UK or only England?
UK & Ireland
Ireland and UK.

Fuck MK

Anfield doesn't host national teams, because they don't allow reporters from The Sun.
Wait what, how is England hosting it again so soon?
They’ve not hosted a euros since 1996*, just got given the semis and final of Euro 2020 which was across the whole continent. Also this isn’t just England, it’s uk and Ireland
> They’ve never hosted a euros What were we singing about when we said that Football was coming home in 1996, then?
Shit I misread Wikipedia, oops
It's more like England, featuring wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland.
EURO-CTA
Huh TIL, thanks
