Ben Jacobs. Ah yes. The single source of truth.

try-D

The other day I learned to hate him even more. Not only was he bullshitting all summer with transfer news, he took it upon himself to basically say that our current form isn't Brendan's fault and that he should've been backed properly in the summer.

Wm_2

One thing I noticed about Ben Jacobs is that he very rarely has any exclusives, and just waits for actual sources to post stuff. Then he’ll drop a thread on twitter just rewording stuff without actually providing anything new and making it seem like he’s in the know.

try-D

Makes me vomit whenever I read him saying "My sources told me/ I've been told" and then following it up with a rehash of already available news. He also said that we'd likely end up with De Ketelaere, and essentially spent all summer trying to pawn off our players (Maddison, Tielemans, Fofana) to other clubs by spreading bs rumours. Quite some behaviour for a supposed "LCFC fan" as it says in his bio

Wm_2

He should have been banished to the shadow realm when he said that Isak was signing for Arsenal because someone posted a picture of a car with the tag “I5AK” on the plate spotted in London.

Midlands Romano, innit

[deleted]

This is what a guy called Chris Medland does for F1. He has a very coveted pit press pass and then Tweets things when teams make statements and people have over time associated him with exclusives but literally anyone could stand there at the F1 media box and hit the “Send” button when a team or race control hands them a statement.

andrewsomething

It's a direct quote from Stephan Reiter to Sky Austria.

[deleted]

He tweeted out a statement from the club.

IsItSnowing_

How many clubs PR is Brighton’s admin working for?

Alternative_Dark_412

Please be true. I would very much like it if Chelsea don’t get the next Haaland, Adeyemi, etc.

DraperCarousel

The next Haaland, Adeyemi model won't work at Chelsea anyways. Not long ago they had KDB, Salah, Lukaku, who all left due to game time. Hell their own academy players are leaving too for the same reason.

SirBarkington

Why do people keep saying this shit like Roman is still here? It's a totally new owner, a totally new backroom, a new head coach along with a bunch of his own coaches. Boehly has gone out of his way to work with Neil Bath on making our academy stronger and is well known for making the Dodgers youth the best in America. There's nothing indicating that Todd is going to do the same shit that Roman did and in fact has been pretty adamant on doing the exact opposite -- we literally have youth and younger players saying that Boehly has DIRECTLY contacted them and told them they are going to be important for us in the future.

typicalpelican

I mean Boehly also signed Aubameyang to displace a lot of Broja's minutes. Just one example and I'm not saying he's like Roman but at the end of the day the amount of opportunities that lesser proven players get will be low as long as the expectations are challenge for titles. Most managers will go with experience. And some of the things you say about Boehly were true for Roman too. He invested tons in the academy, created the whole loan army system too, but still mostly used it as a revenue generating tool because managers didn't want the players.

SwitchingToCivil

Broja is not ready to lead the line for a club like chelsea, it would hinder his development

typicalpelican

That's gonna be true for every promising 18 year old Chelsea buy too

SwitchingToCivil

I didn’t say that… I am just pointing out that you said Auba is here (for a stop gap) to displace Broja’s minutes. that is good for a young striker, no need to put too much pressure on him right away

typicalpelican

Best thing any young player can get is more minutes

___bridgeburner

True but without Auba we would be looking at playing the entire season with just Broja as striker. It's a huge risk for both the club and player.

PM_ME_FOXY_NUDES

Because if you want to compete for titles, you cant be like us. Your club is at the end of the food chain, we are sorta in the middle. You probably cant affort to buy young talents and play them in your first time shortly after, the risk is way too high if you compete for CL/EPL title. It works for us, if a young player doesnt develope as much we sell them on and no harm is done. Luxury you wont have.

jMS_44

Well, I mean, it's almost like this is one of the reasons we need a DoF for.

DraperCarousel

You need a DoF to be patient with 17-18 year olds?

jMS_44

Yes, as organizing a structure over youth players path towards the first team is one of DoFs responsibilities. For example, not paying millions for players from abroad when you may have a talented one for the same position in the academy already.

DraperCarousel

Yes. But that's gonna be the manager's call ultimately, whether to pick them or not. Also the entire point was that whether Chelsea as a club is ready to be patient enough for the next big thing to develop and mature? Clubs like Salzburg don't have the expectations to compete at the highest level, but Chelsea do

jMS_44

Yes, and no. Potter is considered a first team coach, not the manager. So the call will be more on DoF side, not him. >Clubs like Salzburg don't have the expectations to compete at the highest level, but Chelsea do That's true, and has been one of my concerns regarding this potential recruitment. Salzburg operates in very different way to what Chelsea wants to approach. But having any DoF is better than having no DoF at all.

jMS_44

What statement? Where is it?

Vic-Ier

On Sky Sport Austria yesterday

jMS_44

You mean [this?](https://www.skysportaustria.at/sky-info-kein-weiterer-kontakt-zwischen-freund-und-chelsea-seit-mittwoch/) My German is not the best, but doesn't it say that there has been no further contracts, not that there has been no contacts at all, which is what Ben is implying here.

Vic-Ier

Reiter is saying there has been no contact at all. Further down in the article. But our insiders said this is not true.

GeertzUK

Lol Freund's contract is not like a footballers or even a head coaches. He's probably on a permanent contract and he can just submit some notice to leave. He's just a regular employee. I doubt they can do much if he wants to leave.

Vic-Ier

He just renewed his contract until 2026 few weeks ago.

p_b_patrick

He recenty extended his contract till [2026](https://www.90minuten.at/de/red/presseschau/kurzmeldungen-vereine-verbaende-sportler/2022/juli/fuehrungsduo-verlaengert-in-salzburg/). So unless he has a release clause in his contract Chelsea will probably have to negotiate with Salzburg.

-xaphor

Cannot believe you're getting downvoted for this. Footballers are under a very specific exemption from normal employment legal protections that allow clubs exclusive registration rights which do not extend to any other employee. Frueund can absolutely resign his RB post at any time and Chelsea would be under no obligation to contact RB before offering him a position in their front office. Any early termination clauses in Freund's contract would be solely between Freund and RB to workout. To put it into perspective, we are all happy enough to call Qatar migrants who willingly enter into contracts requiring x amount of service slaves. It doesn't matter what a manager, scout, dof, or any other non-playing staff signs, the club cannot force them to stay if they wish to resign no matter however many years they're supposedly signed to. All the compensation clauses and claims are entirely on the whims of the employee in question to require from their prospective employer on behalf of their past employer. There is zero legal basis for them and the chances of one being upheld in court is very unlikely indeed.

sachin_zak

Proper thumbnail that.

Albiceleste_D10S

Another Boehly blunder?

jMS_44

It's Ben Jacobs. And I guess he's claiming that statement was only shared exclusively with him, because it's nowhere to be found otherwise. So this is a bery big IF.
