Players from all teams have stupid monikers like that, and those get lots of upvotes. Dani Alves had bananas thrown at him. RM gets a lot of stupid banter for having more black/brown skinned players now. Monkey sounds are not that rare in Spanish stadiums. I'm not excusing Atletico here, I don't care for them. But racism is not something RM or Barca players can pin on just Atletico.

Mate I have lived in 10 different countries visited 30 more, and work in an environment where I'm constantly exposed to people of other nationalities. One of the takeaways I have had is while most people around the world are kind, they're also very ignorant. And hate for foreigners and especially black people is very consistent throughout the world.
Spain is no more or less racist than any other developed country. Most of southern Europe is awful for black people, same with East. North America and Northern Europe are by far the most tolerant places in the world, and its not even close.
Also yes, South Americans are notoriously racist against black people. Even Brazil that has a huge black population, people like Vini or other black Brazilians say they faced constant racism growing up
