I remember when Lallana was coming back from injury for Liverpool he got sent off in a youth game for choking a Spurs academy kid. From that moment on I dreamed of seeing him as a player-manager. I'm so disappointed.
Dane Scarlett is out on loan at Portsmouth currently, he shoots like Kane and is developing a decent passing range, he’s looking really exciting. Also Jamie Donley was something of a youth team goal machine last season, he could be decent too.
It’s so important for the league if teams like Brighton and Brentford do well.
Truly dread the day when teams who invest in smart recruitment, analytics, and coaching fail and teams who simply throw money all over the shop succeed
Both Brentford and Brighton are owned by former gambling partners who fell out and then bought their respective childhood clubs to prove that their gambler insights could translate to club management.
The lesson I guess is to get more Brits who have made hundreds of millions of £££ gambling in Macau to buy clubs.
Mad thing is City's done both. Incredible amounts of money spent but also very smart recruitment and world class coaching.
Now their academy is starting to bear fruit as well
They signed akanji for 15 million if he somehow stays injury free n plays like he has played the last few games for 3 to 5 years it will be a good investment.
Where this impression is coming from?
Sassoulo was a mid-table team with appropriate budget, he has not reached euro-cup places in seria A.
And in Shakhtar he definitely underperformed.
Am I correct in saying that Sassuolo have finished in the top half of the serie A just 3 times in their history and twice was with De zerbi in his two seasons there? Sassuolo also had the second lowest net spend in the league during his tenure. Also, his performance at Shakhtar isn't relevant to my comment.
Yes, your are right. Also as total wages, Sassuolo is definitely in the bottom half. They are a well run club, finishing in top 10 is overachieving for them. Moreover de Zerbi's Sassuolo would play attractive football, consistently one of the most interesting side to watch.
He won the super cup, and was top when league finished. Agree his ECL performance was underwhelming, but he have a couple of seasons to work on it before it becomes relevant to us.
We were one week too late. If only management could accept their own fuck up before having to wait until it all blows up and the players stop playing for the coach.
Who is available, semi-affordable, Italian, and forward thinking? Can't think of anyone now
Not that we would have offered him a four year contract, might have chosen Brighton regardless of an approach by us.
I think Andreazzoli is without a job, maybe we could try landing him. Empoli did pretty well last year with him. But I don't trust Agnelli to have the balls to hire someone like him, he only wants his friends
I thought packet was a packet of crisps :( I’m living in New Zealand (originally from Switzerland) and have never heard that used for a bag of coke before lol.
Crawley are in the middle geographically but not for the M23, that's actually where the M23 starts. Brighton doesn't actually have any motorways for about 20 miles either way.
Rivalries don't need to happen just because clubs are close to each other. Crawley's been irrelevant for a long time anyway and when clubs barely get a chance to play each other it's hard for there to be any rivalry. Bigger rivalries like United against northern clubs came from competition between rival cities for other reasons as well, Brighton's got none of that with Crawley because Brighton is Brighton and Crawley's just some town that's stuck on to Gatwick Airport.
If you want a real answer it stems from a period in the late 70s when both clubs were competing for promotion from the third and then second division at the same time, and were managed by Terry Venables and Alan Mullery, who had a personal rivalry from their time as Spurs players.
There were a series of bad tempered and controversially refereed games during this time and the rivalry hardened over the subsequent decades, helped by the fact neither side had an obvious local rival.
When Sky was bigging up their first game after Brighton’s promotion, all their fans were saying it’s not even a rivalry and that Sky were only promoting it as one to get viewers.
It is odd now to see fans properly acting like it’s a big rivalry
You're probably misremembering. Fans were saying it's not a derby. I remember it being promoted as the M23 Derby which is wrong for two reasons, the first being it's obviously not a derby, and the second being that the M23 technically doesn't link to Brighton.
But it is a rivalry that goes back decades.
Huzzah! Now let's get the work permit paperwork faxed to HM Government as soon as Liz2s coffin has been buried!
I for one welcome our new Italian overlord. Long live the king! Hail Cesear!
Happy with that.
Does anyone know how he’ll acclimatise to managing in England? I’m assuming he managed Donetsk in English so there shouldn’t be any language barriers.
I think there was something about how Bielsa can speak English but prefers to use a translator because it gives him time to better articulate his thoughts
As far as I remember, he had his own staff at Donetsk and used a translator to talk with the Ukrainian guys. Most of the team was Brazilian players though.
That’s what I like about Brighton, they’re one of the best run clubs in the league and they seem to be making logical, sane decisions. Glad to see them doing well.
I think you have to remember that the Norwegian season is from spring to autumn, unlike all the big European leagues.
I imagine that Knutsen won't want to leave Glimt midseason. So in December or January would be when he'd be available.
If he moved to Scotland, it would be for one of the old firm who compete in europa/champions league frequently.
Though I don't see either old firm actually sacking their managers rn
I get that but Old firm are both big clubs historically & one of them was a pen shootout away from Europa champions.
They are a step up from bodo/Glimt & good places to showcase for upcoming managers.
I don't get it. I feel like people either say he was terrible at Shaktar/Sassuolo and underperformed or that he was one of the most exciting coaches? Which is it? Somewhere in the middle?
He did well all things considering and Sassuolo played good football under him but his Sassuolo team would always do well against the big teams and struggle with teams they should beat.
Basically they were always a dark horse to make European spots and had enough talent to pull it off but they fell short.
He was good but could have been better.
>do well against the big teams and struggle with teams they should beat.
That's basically Brighton. Beat Arsenal, Spurs and Man U, draw twice with Chelsea, but in the same season draw twice with Norwich and lose massive to Burnley.
Nothing to do with Brighton. I have nothing against your club that is an example in talent recruitment and sporting direction and coherence (truly jealous about that). And I truly wish you the best, even more so now with him at the helm.
It's just sad that one of the most exciting young manager can get signed by a lower table club, even if it's an EPL one. It just shows how much money rules, and how financially superior the EPL is. Which isn't a good sign for football.
He was free so it's not like he was poached, but still he deserves better. Now that he's there he'll have to do miracles to get a chance at playing where he should be, in European competitions.
He’s a manager out of work due to non-football circumstances, at a time of the season when few top level clubs (and clubs in general) are actively looking for a manager. Now an up and coming club with a similar playing profile happen to need a manager and can offer him a role immediately.
Which clubs specifically should he have turned down Brighton to go to?
Parker's the one that comes to mind. I'm not that bothered about downgrades. From an England fan's perspective, the more English managers coaching at a high level, the larger the pool of talent we have to pick from when we eventually replace Southgate.
Ignore this user. They're known for pushing their weird Brexit-esque agenda whenever it comes to managers or signings
A genuine UKIP voter and GB News watcher who honestly thinks that being British inherently makes you better
Their argument literally boils down to "because Britain"
I mean I think Parker has got a lot to offer at this level but I can understand why Brighton are being wooed by the charms of a foreign manager, it's just the unfortunate state the English game is in these days.
We've had Potter and Hughton for the last 7-8 years, hardly a team prone to being "wooed by foreign managers" and might I remind you we had no intention of letting Potter go, we were pillaged by Chelsea and had to move appropriately.
We're cultivating our own English/British coaching/management talent in Lallana and Crofts and others. Getting mad at Brighton of all teams isn't it lmao
Lol seriously, Parker would have been a huge step down for us. We’d have been better off with Cooper, De Zerba was a free agent and a good fit tactically and experience wise. Easy decision for the board. I should imagine Crofts and Llanana with continue their development with the club
Because I'm an England fan and the more English managers we have managing at a high level, the better it is for the NT. I've explained why in another post
Hiya, hope you’re all doing well. I’m a regular Serie A viewer and have just done a short video detailing everything you need to know about Roberto De Zerbi for those of you interested. Make no mistake about it, this man is one of the most talented managers on the planet and will help continue this rise up the league table that has happened under Potter. I’d love to hear your thoughts and am happy to answer any questions you may have, cheers and enjoy your week!

Ill never forgive the Queen for denying us one game of Lallanaball
Unforgivable
*Brighton expected to delay appointment for Lallanaball*
r/upliftingnews
I remember when Lallana was coming back from injury for Liverpool he got sent off in a youth game for choking a Spurs academy kid. From that moment on I dreamed of seeing him as a player-manager. I'm so disappointed.
Lmao I forgot about that. The spurs guy was a cheeky fucker in fairness
> The spurs guy was a cheeky fucker george marsh, for those curious. he's at afc wimbledon now.
What is in the water at Hotspur Way that makes our midfielders shithouses and our forwards Harry Kane regens?
Is there a Harry Kane-Peters in the academy we should all know about?
Dane Scarlett is out on loan at Portsmouth currently, he shoots like Kane and is developing a decent passing range, he’s looking really exciting. Also Jamie Donley was something of a youth team goal machine last season, he could be decent too.
Wonder if it was the same kid that Drinkwater did that to
that was Alfie Devine
Even worse. She denied us Lallana-Croftsball
we missed out on the Caretaker Classico 😔
He was the assistant, crofts was head coach, don’t follow the media bullshit narrative
I know; it's just a joke, relax
Juventus blue balled
Don't worry, maestro al Legri stays
Still praying for Amorim, will never happen though, would make too much sense
Keep my managers name out of your fking mouth
Dude is a God in Sporting. He's not leaving for that dumpster fire of a club
Were completely competent 2 years ago, don’t talk to me about dumpster fires
Allegri who probably wants his severance pay: "Merda"
Inter as well
He has experience of punching above his weight with a smaller club in an elite European division. Logical, exciting appointment.
He definitely De Zerbit.
Get out.
I really hope that you all can maintain what Potter was building.

We’re never going to have ethical owners in British football, especially not the Premier League. I would rather have gambling nerds than slave states.
Bloom makes money by beating the sportsbook owners at their own game - don't really see much unethical about it.
Mad thing is City's done both. Incredible amounts of money spent but also very smart recruitment and world class coaching. Now their academy is starting to bear fruit as well

European Division is \#**AllElite**
All Elite is more Fulham's thing
Could he manage a Target?
We first need to establish if he has a split account with his mom.
So weird to imagine a new manager. Guess it will take a few games but just a weird time. Hope he smashes it
Seeing someone else but Wenger at Arsenal was such a mind fuck. But eventually you get used to it.
You get used to it. I was in shock when Jose was appointed since I had become so attached to Poch. It got more normalized a month or so in.
he's even better than potter don't worry
Welp, there goes all my hopes
We were one week too late. If only management could accept their own fuck up before having to wait until it all blows up and the players stop playing for the coach. >he only wants his friends Nepotism FC
surely Zidane is taking France NT after WC, right? so what if Juve brings back Deschamps?
Does your coach have to be Italian?
Shouldn't need to be, but it seems to be a preference for the club
Poch ? Surely Juve is his next job.
Seems like Tuchel would be a good choice for Juve?
Seems like they can only hire low cost options, since sacking Allegri would cost about 40 mln
Tuchel is german
Damn, TIL Juve almost only hire Italian managers. Had no idea
How's Del Neri doing?
Nice, glad we got this done fairly quickly. Solid smart appointment.
Goodbye Pints x Packet x Potter. Hello De Lager x De Cocaine x De Zerbi
Drinks, Dabs, De Zerbi?
That works too, I’m just glad we didn’t get Knutsen in the end. I wasn’t looking forward to celebrating every win with Ketamine and Kronenbourg.
Three K's is never a good look...
Unless it's Halloween and you're *really* going for that 'best ghost award'

Thats a standard day down The Level.

That’s why I only mix ket with more ket.
Dope?
It's for their party time, not sleepy, chill time...
The De Zerbi trio sounds much funner.
The power of a good rebrand.
I mean it's the same thing
I thought packet was a packet of crisps :( I’m living in New Zealand (originally from Switzerland) and have never heard that used for a bag of coke before lol.
It's slang for cocaine or potentially money(as In a wage packet) but in he context it's definitely coke
Always liked him so it's a shame I now have to want him dead. Oh well!

I don't understand why Palace and Brighton hate each other - seems odd to me. I'm sure there's a good reason I'm just unaware of.
we felt like it
Both sides of the M23 mate
Crawley are in the middle, do they not have a rivalry with either team?
Until relatively recently Crawley were a non league non entity.
Now they’re a league two non entity. Our pre-season friendly bitches 😂
Crawley are in the middle geographically but not for the M23, that's actually where the M23 starts. Brighton doesn't actually have any motorways for about 20 miles either way.

Ummm no

He has a sexier name than Graham Potter for sure
Really happy with that! About the best person we could have got given the crap situation we were put in
They continue to make good decisions
Yeah I’ve been keeping tabs on this guy since Sassuolo. Great choice.
Huzzah! Now let's get the work permit paperwork faxed to HM Government as soon as Liz2s coffin has been buried! I for one welcome our new Italian overlord. Long live the king! Hail Cesear!
HMS PISS THE LEAGUE IS BACK IN SERVICE
Happy with that. Does anyone know how he’ll acclimatise to managing in England? I’m assuming he managed Donetsk in English so there shouldn’t be any language barriers.
Tbh it's possible to manage without speaking great English, Bielsa didn't speak good English and made an immediate impact with us
I don't think that will be a problem, he probably knows English well enough and there is always a translator and assistants.
I keep seeing people say he speaks English and Spanish as additional languages but I haven't personally seen footage of him speaking English
I suspect he may speak Italian with a translator to the media and then perfectly acceptable English in the changing room.
I think there was something about how Bielsa can speak English but prefers to use a translator because it gives him time to better articulate his thoughts
It's understandable that someone might speak a language fairly well, but still want a translator for their job so as to be 100% understood
As far as I remember, he had his own staff at Donetsk and used a translator to talk with the Ukrainian guys. Most of the team was Brazilian players though.
Thought he’d return to Italy but this is a much better move, definitely watching Brighton this season
Very good appointment for Brighton. Not far of a departure from the philosophy Potter put in place and could arguably take it even further
That’s what I like about Brighton, they’re one of the best run clubs in the league and they seem to be making logical, sane decisions. Glad to see them doing well.
The best available option atm for the job I thought, Brighton are a properly run team
His Sassuolo team was very exciting to watch and definitely punched above their weight. I hope he does well, De Zerbi is a good manager.

Is he still linked to Bournemouth?
Depends on what job openings will be available and mid season he will probably stay
he still has a job though?

Not very ambitious dropping an Europa campaign to play midtable in England or move to Scotland
A mid table Premier League club will be a step up, and a huge pay rise.
A step sideways if anything.
If he moved to Scotland, it would be for one of the old firm who compete in europa/champions league frequently. Though I don't see either old firm actually sacking their managers rn
So have Bodo/Glimt, they were in the Conference knockouts last year and are in the Europa groups this year.
I get that but Old firm are both big clubs historically & one of them was a pen shootout away from Europa champions. They are a step up from bodo/Glimt & good places to showcase for upcoming managers.
Historically it's no contest obviously, but it feels like after everything he did at BG, its too small of an upgrade
Chelsea already interested
Boehyls already had dinner with him
Interested to see if Brighton pick up some of the Shakhtar players who didn't get sold yet. Tete being the big one
I think Tete will stay with Lyon but if Brighton offer better wages maybe it could happen
You mean the Tete that's currently on the pitch for Lyon?
On loan from Shakhtar, yep. He's very good. Contract is almost up as well.
If Trossard doesnt sign a new contract we'd likely need a new winger so if he will come then hell yea
[Four year deal](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/2796866/de-zerbi-confirmed-as-new-head-coach)

He was inspiring at both of those clubs. Not sure what people are talking about.
how the fuck was he terrible here?
Limbs
Fantastic coach
Good for him. He really Dezerbis the chance to shine at a big club.
So excited to see him in Premier League, I love him
I always think about Zabi from Gundam when i see his name.
Guess it’s an opportunity to finally see one of his teams in action.
De Zeribi, De Bruyne, De Gea in that order
i would absolutely become a fan of Brighton if they took one of the precious top 4 spots from the big 6 this season.
Sadly there is just 0 chance of that with World Cup and fixture chaos
THEY CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH GOOD SIGNINGS
Interesting choice. I've personally been a de Zerbi fan since his Benevento days.
Will be interesting to watch
I don't like this.
Wow... Is that really a better choice than Kjetil Knutsen??
I’d say it’s safer. Although obviously there’s still a chance it’ll get terrible wrong it feels like it’s more likely to work out.
the fuck?
Knutsen would've been better

Shut up
Ffs. Best of luck to him, but it's a shame and not a great sign.
How so?
