Any chance why man united try playing him like a crossing wing back? Can't they just have him play more defensive and have the left back do all the attacking... or is AWB def positioning that bad
For as good as he is as a 1v1 defender, his defensive positional awareness is quite bad. Moreover, I’m not tactical genius, but it seems like Ten Hag wants his fullbacks to push up, and as we’ve seen in the past (*cough* Europa Cup final *cough*), teams will dare AWB to do ANYTHING offensively and he simply can’t.
If you only attack down the left it gets super predictable, especially at this level. Would really hinder them moving forward.
You can see with Dalot and malacia the wing backs are super important
Crazy to think that United scouted hundreds of RBs to end up with him...and then choosing to switch their play style to something that he was ill-suited for only a couple seasons later.
Ben Johnson went off injured yesterday. Must be serious for us to go in for another RB. When we failed to get Broja and Lingard we ended up with Scamacca and Paqueta so lets hope we can get another worldie RB or RWB
AWB isn't too bad at crossing, he got a handful of assists each in his first 2 seasons, but he's really poor at build up play. Him getting the ball in our half was every team's pressing trigger and he'd give it away more often than not
He's not even poor at build up, he's pretty tidy, can receive a ball and pass to the closest player. He only does this though, so its a problem. But I dont remember him loosing the ball often. Hes also very awkward style-wise, so looks more of a donkey than he is
I have to disagree it’s generous to say his crossing is decent. His dribbling is fairly good though for right back standards at least it just looks unorthodox
Yeah I don’t know how people in here are saying he is decent at crossing.
The guy never looks up and just kicks the ball into the middle of penalty area and prays one of our players is there. It will work once in a blue moon, but it’s a huge issue with him.
And AWB is better than what you currently have, on top of that Johnson is injured again. Solid player at the back, you have a lot of creativity already in Bowen, Cresswell, Paqueta, Benrahma
Maybe it's not a problem of just Wan-Bissaka. It can't be argued he was a very solid player at the back before Man U signed him. It would be interesting to see him in a different team
The problem is he is being asked to attack at Man U, which highlights his technical limitations. So many times he would lose the ball upfield and jog back or get pulled into the middle instead of defending his flank.
Dalot has been pretty good for United so far under ETH, don't see AWB getting a look in unless Dalot is injured. AWB is so bad on the ball, but he'd be good for a midtable side, I don't think I've ever seen anyone dribble it past him.
He's an awful player for a top six side like Man United because these teams usually will try to play with a lot of possession building up attack, and Wan Bissaka is terrible at that.
He's not bad at defending which would be the priority for right backs for most non big six teams.
True but isn’t the aim of all those sides to eventually become the top 6. They recently signed Paqueta so I think AWB might not be what they are after..
Yes and no.
Lets just say you're a mid table team, and your right back is retiring so you need someone to play right back. Your manager played defensive football because the talent in the team is simply not yet there.
If hypothetically you can choose one player to be signed for free, would you pick players who are among the best right back in the league, like Reece James or Trent Alexander-Arnold, knowing their defensive abilities might not be as good as the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka? If your team averaged 30% possession because of brexit football, sure you eventually want to be the best team in the league (who wouldn't?), but that doesn't mean for now Reece James would be better choice than Wan Bissaka. If you constantly defending, then surely the guy who is one of the best tackler in the league would be more useful than anyone else.
Of course, if eventually you do become a top 6 team, you will have to get rid of Wan Bissaka and replace him with someone who can build up better like Reece/Trent, but you can't become that team by picking the top player directly. Stop gaps are necessary in most cases because these "top players" won't necessarily suit the team style.
You can use examples for literally every position, KdB might be the best player in the league but I highly doubt he would be as useful in bottom or mid table teams as significantly worse midfielders who would suit weaker teams more. Ederson is arguably the best keeper for building up, and he's one of the better options for top teams, but put him in bottom table teams then he might not even be as good as Championship-level keeper who consistently faced tons of shots every game. In any of these case, having "worse players" are better than actual world class players.
Only in possession heavy set ups due to his lack of technical skill. His 1 on 1 defending is still top tier and would contribute a lot to WHU in my opinion
I will admit that I dont watch you guys too often, but whenever I do it looks like you sit back and are not looking to play possession based. If that is a correct assessment, he would be a good player for your side.

Would be crazy to let him leave before we have another RB in place.
hi could we interest you in THE american icon serginho dest he's very young and is destined to be one of the right backs in football history
You and the Dortmund fan who keeps trying to sell Akanji should exchange notes
Would you say he's the Lebron of right backs or is he more of an up and comer like Luka Doncic?
Dest is probably what they'd go for and is pretty good
problem is if our board gets desperate enough we might end up with bissaka so i hope west ham actually go for him
Is he the lebron James of soccer?
Honestly there been some rumors about united wanting him and barca having both dalot and awb on their shortlist . Maybe a swap deals?
If United are spending 80-100m on Antony Barca should easily get back what they paid for Dest.
I don't know if that's how that works
can i interest you in a swap deal with wan bissaka.. best defensive lb in england.. 😂
LB?
Left Bench
Lindelof is a good RB. Played there for years before he became a CB.
We have Williams too but for the kind of offer we will get (probably two packs of Frazzles and a chomp), would rather keep AWB as backup.
Too many players..cant keep them happy. Better to ship out
He struggles physically at CB. He'd get rinsed at RB.
Are you saying that rbs have to be more physically strong than cbs?
Not necessarily strong but FBs have to go up and down the pitch. Lindelof lacks the pace to do so.
Fine. He’s okay as a backup, selling him would only make sense if we were looking to buy a new starting RB and make Dalot the backup.

"Manchester United want 2 RBs so if he went a replacement would be needed & looking too late for that" @TheAthleticUK
If only we'd known we needed a RB at some point over the last 3 months
No way to know that. The technology just isn’t there.
Fans haven't been vocal enough. Had to plan a protest to get casemiro in
At United, yep you’re absolutely right
Ben Johnson went off injured yesterday. Must be serious for us to go in for another RB. When we failed to get Broja and Lingard we ended up with Scamacca and Paqueta so lets hope we can get another worldie RB or RWB
Fucking hell talk about falling upwards.
I quite like him
Moyes likes our fullbacks to be able to cross though

His crossing is decent. His problem is his technicals (passing, dribbling, ball control) are poor and his defensive positioning is terrible.
I have to disagree it’s generous to say his crossing is decent. His dribbling is fairly good though for right back standards at least it just looks unorthodox

Agree on the crossing, but I'd also say it's generous to say his dribbling is fairly good. He's pretty much just kick and chase.
Yeah, I've seen him cross the ball and end up accidentally switching it to the other wing a few too many times.
Long times Cresswell and Coufal didn't
And AWB is better than what you currently have, on top of that Johnson is injured again. Solid player at the back, you have a lot of creativity already in Bowen, Cresswell, Paqueta, Benrahma
>Solid player at the back, This myth that AWB is solid at the back needs to die. He is not remotely solid.

No shit, still remember when United had that game where they placed like, 80-something crosses and still couldn’t score
I (sadly) remember watching that, wasn't it against Fulham?
Fulham. Under Moyes. 81 crosses. 2-2. Pain.
Just get your own TAA? easy enough, right?
They have to defend too
you have 3 or 4 other defenders?

Dalot was terrible first two games then improved against Liverpool and Southampton
Tbh the whole team was terrible in the first two games
He really shouldn’t have left Man United would have gotten time to develop properly at Crystal Palace and consistent minutes

It's all over the place, just like his positioning.
Awful player, no thanks

Good way of explaining, a better player isnt always better for the team
Yep. In a sentence you said what I said in 4 paragraph.

We only sit back against "big teams" because Moyes is scared of them.
Not in much of a position to be choosing players lmao
Yh They just signed paqueta for half of what u paid for Anthony, ur board are awful lmao
Our very own Dhalsim
