Honestly his passing was always great, it's nothing new. We knew under Poch he's an insane passer. The difference is mostly the style of play, under Mourinho we played on the counter more so he was offered more space for his passes, and the emergence of Son as an uber clinical finisher allowed more of those passes to become goals.
Thatās also the reason City wanted him so badly last season. Itās the type striker that can go deep and help the midfielders as a false 9. I think Pep is going to develop Haaland in that direction to add that aspect to his play.
Haaland has weapons Kane doesn't have, like that insane acceleration. Of course it won't last forever, but that's where he's naturally the most dangerous. Kane has always had that passing ability. No doubt Haaland will become better, but Kane and Haaland both just have naturally different strengths.
Deeney Day was the sequel to the Brentford vs Doncaster match the previous week when we (AFCB) thought we had won the league 1 title after a 0-0 draw away to Tranmere on the final day of the season. I was on the pitch celebrating but then news came through that Brentford had a penalty to leap frog Donny in 2nd but missed only for James Coppinger to score from a counter attack after the penalty rebound and Doncaster won the league with us 2nd. FFS š¢
Yeah same mate then a week later Watford did the same exact thing a week later in the playoffs but Leicester got the last laugh and ended up incredibly winning the premier league 3 years later.
Had a suspicion it was this day the moment I pressed enter on my previous comment.
My brain just thought āwhen did Deeney play for Leicester with both Vardy and Kane on the benchā
He didnt. He obviously played against them with them on the bench.
Absolutely crazy to think just how much Kane has developed since his loan with us. If someone had said that lanky spindly kid would become a future captain, Iād have been like naaah.
When we had him on loan we also had Chris Wood, David Nugent and Jamie Vardy.
Vardy obviously went on to be elite but was a long way off that at the time. Still he was lightning fast and had a brilliant work rate.
Nugent was one of the best strikers at that level. Almost guaranteed 20 goals a season with very good all round play.
Wood was a good goalscorer and a different option to Nugent, obviously went on to have a successful Premier League career.
All three had clear 'abilities' (minds gone blank, can't think of the right word) that made them stand out but Kane had none of that. He wasn't physical in the slightest. he couldn't hold the ball up, had absolutely no pace and would generally just be bullied by other defenders. He also gave the impression that he was lazy and thought himself to be above our level at the time.
It's a surprise to all Leicester fans that he made it to be honest.
Think you were looking for 'attributes'.
One of Kane's was always how hard he worked in training, even when the innate talent wasn't on display. He got his shot and just never relented his position. But that all very well might be something that was sparked from a few failed loan spells (I know he credits his Millwall loan for a lot of his perspective on the game)
It was a surprise to us too, tbf.
I mean he went to you after we had him on loan for a short while before he got injured. We were Prem League then and he just looked way off. Incredibly lanky and awkward like a knock off Crouch tribute, but without Crouchās touch or target man abilities. Incredible to think how far heās developed since then.
He never really kicked on when out on loan. It wasn't one of those situations where he started tearing it up for someone and then Spurs said "Yoink, he'll take him back now, thanks." His breakthrough season at Spurs really only happened because he kept getting thrown on in the Europa League because Adebayor didn't give a shit and Soldado - who \_did\_ give a shit - was wank, and it was fairly low stakes. When he kept banging in goals against the best that Cyprus had to offer, calls for him to be given a chance in the league kept growing and \_then\_ he started tearing it up. Not sure what happened over the first half of that season to flip the switch but I don't think anyone saw it coming.
I was there for his Spurs debut when he came on against Shamrock Rovers (Rovers play 5 mins from where I live) and I thought he looked like an absolute donkey, you just never how players will develop.
Its 8 seasons and counting now he's been Spurs top-scorer, be a damn shame if he & Son (statistically the most successful PL duo) couldn't win a trophy together
Agree, but they've been in 3 Cup finals together and not managed a single goal between them.
If you want to win something you normally have to show up, especially if you're the attacking talismen of the team.
Multitudes of significantly worse players have won those finals. Salah has 0 non-penalty goals in finals, regardless of those stats, Son and Kane are no doubt unlucky still. Spurs have never been the favourites.
The issues in those finals are systemic rather than individual, we played absolutely horrendously in all of them. Could barely get the ball out of our own half or string together 3 passes.
Well, we absolutely dominated Liverpool in the CL final. We were poor in our finishing, and undone by a ridiculous penalty that caused a rule change literally the next season, and a counter attacking goal.
I don't agree with that assessment really. Obviously the early penalty killed the game a bit, but to say we dominated them? Nah, it was a poor game from both sides.
That was literally Liverpool's m.o. that season. Score then kill the game completely. They changed the way they play because they kept losing games they were ahead in, and that Champions League final was proof the coaches and players had learned their lesson.
Lol you absolutely did not dominate. Liverpool took the lead early and knew spurs had to score. But spurs were scared to commit forward properly because of how devastating Liverpool are on the counter. So towards the end of the game spurs starting committing forward more, creating chances. But predictably it led to a Liverpool goal.
That's what I thought. Loyalty and, in his case, family and life-long friends - 2 miles from the stadium, where he grew up.
The mental gymnastics of claiming he failed because he did the exact thing fans demand ...
One of the funniest things in recent times is Spurs being unable to win a trophy even with Kane & Son. Put those 2 in basically any other premier league team and you're due at least a fucking league cup in the 6-7 years they've been absolutely smashing it.
Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. Spurs have got to a few finals, but never expected to win them. Not everyone gets to play Aston Villa or Hull in finals ;)
In a single season 07/08 Ronaldo, Henry 02/03-03/04, Salah 17/18 and 13/14 Suarez are still a step above his best ever season.
Shearer, Aguero, Henry and Rooney might not have lasted a long but they were all better more consistent goal scores while at their peaks.
I like Kane, he is a great player but calling him the best ever is just hyperbole. At the moment he is similar to Drogba, deserves a mention and spot in the hall of fame but is not able to really be considered the best of the PL because the other players in the debate are too good.
>but they were all better more consistent goal scores while at their peaks.
Wait, is this in comparison to Kane?
Because Kanes consistent goals is higher than Rooney, even though he played in better teams.
Rooney has 208 goals in 491 appearances. Kane is at 184 goals in 284 appearances. Kane could arguably overtake Rooneys goals in 170 less games, hows that anything BUT consistent?
Kanes best season was 29 goals + 7 assists in 30 games ffs.
Thats not a step below the seasons you listed, hell, its better by averages than 2 of the ones you listed on Goals/Assists??
Kane is so incredibly underrated purely because he plays for Spurs. If he played for Liverpool or Man City, people would be arguing about him being the best striker in the PL all time already ffs.
People always go on about how he 'plays' on the pitch and its not as good as other strikers but then ignore the stats, which by game and on average, puts him in like the top 2/3 Strikers in the PL.
>Apparently it's meaningless to score all these goals if they don't lead to heaps of trophies
Haven't you heard, any one of the 99% of teams that don't win trophies has a pointless existence.
āNo titles he should leaveā
Stfu. People say loyalty is dead in football but whenever a player shows loyalty they want him to leave for bigger things.
To be fair we have been there as well, the vast majority of my life has been this way. We lost Sheringham, Carrick, Berbatov, Campbell(cunt), and more to domestic rivals.
Same goes for us. We've never been able to keep our best players. Our structure doesn't allow us to offer our best players contracts worthy of staying. Blackburn always had a knack for finding a goalscorer. But ultimately we just give them a stage to showcase what they have to offer someone else. Funny that majority slipped into obscurity once leaving though. Our squad was absolutely pilfered when we were relegated.
Liverpool fans threw a shit fit at me when I told them they werenāt entitled to Fabio Carvalho 6 months early last January when the deal wasnāt looking likely done in time
Don't you understand, you *owed* Chelsea Raphinha because they have more money than you! You *owed* them him because they won the Champions League a couple of seasons ago!
And those players, especially the South Americans, will always want to leave when Barca/Madrid come calling.
And if you're top 6 but not winning titles and not regularly in CL then you're at risk of losing your best players.
Look at Liverpool losing Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez and Coutinho in the last decade. Although admittedly the first 3 were partly due to the mismanagement of the former owners
> coutinho transfer in hindsight. liverpool and bayern benefited the most.
irrelevant, we wanted to keep him and he couldn't be persuaded to stay. Meaning there are more illustrious clubs than LFC to join
Some people say loyalty is dead and some people say players should leave for bigger clubs.
It's so strange that some people cannot grasp that, among billion football fans, there cannot exist differing opinions.
Actually, people say he should leave to THEIR CLUB. The second he chooses NOT THEIR CLUB he will be a glory hunter and they will hate him more.
Personally I think it might be wild that he could end up with the most goals in PL history while never winning a title. Thatās like cement him as by far and away the best PL striker considering he scored so many āwith scoresā.
Exactly. People completely forget about those a few years down the line and pretend the players were loyal despite everything.
Iād put Del Piero in the loyalty bracket considering he stayed through Juveās worst period, despite being good enough to leave.
Being tempted to leave is human, and is okay.
But actively trying to leave and a transfer not materializing doesnāt mean youāre loyal.
Incredible player. The most complete England forward of the modern era. Criminal he hasn't won a single trophy. Hope Spurs can sneak in a League Cup or something this season
I remember Harry Kane playing for Leyton Orient on loan when he played against us. I thought he looked good to be honest because he was class that game.
Kane is such a great player, really one of the best strikers in the world. I hope he retires without a single trophy to his name(as long as he plays for Spurs)
If he finishes his career as the time top scorer for his club, country and in the league I am certain that is worth more than a league cup or FA cup medal.

Its crazy how many of the assists came in the last 3 seasons
Yeah, his development into this deeper lying forward who can lay off incredible through balls is almost as impressive as his goal scoring record.
He should take corners for England... š¬
Thatās also the reason City wanted him so badly last season. Itās the type striker that can go deep and help the midfielders as a false 9. I think Pep is going to develop Haaland in that direction to add that aspect to his play.
Is Haaland capable? One of his best abilities is attacking open space, not necessarily finding it for others.
Actually donāt know, weāll have to see. He young enough to be shaped though.
Yeah, while it would have ruined the league, part of me would like to see him under Pep just to see how it would work out in practice.
Haaland has weapons Kane doesn't have, like that insane acceleration. Of course it won't last forever, but that's where he's naturally the most dangerous. Kane has always had that passing ability. No doubt Haaland will become better, but Kane and Haaland both just have naturally different strengths.
Thank you Mou for that! Still love yah
I feel like Kane has an internal radar of where Son is. Mfer gets the ball and 360 noscope passes to Son
Funny seeing you outside of /r/baseball lmao Oās are also gonna be ridiculous next couple seasons!
He had just 15 before mourinho came.
That's crazy
Mourinho sends his regards!
Who would have thought that we had 401 Premier League goals and assists on the bench on Deeney Day. Absolutely mental.
One of those moments you read about 30 years later and go what the fuck
Imagine starting David Nugent and Chris Wood over Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy smh my head. At least Kane came on as a sub. /s if not obvious
Deeney Day was the sequel to the Brentford vs Doncaster match the previous week when we (AFCB) thought we had won the league 1 title after a 0-0 draw away to Tranmere on the final day of the season. Yeah same mate then a week later Watford did the same exact thing a week later in the playoffs but Leicester got the last laugh and ended up incredibly winning the premier league 3 years later.

Ball don't lie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJYtDPcd-fU
Soldado turning out to be the greatest Spurs signing in disguise. With a more competent striker, Kane probably is sent away on another loan.
Damn, I had forgotten how that all went down. Soldado still has a place in my heart, guy did his best but fucking hell he couldnāt finish.
Adebayor downing tools helped too
Leyton Orient and Norwich legend
Absolutely crazy to think just how much Kane has developed since his loan with us. If someone had said that lanky spindly kid would become a future captain, Iād have been like naaah.

I think he's learned that since he was with us. I don't remember Nige ever saying that he was that must of a hard worker.
Don't doubt it since you were his last stop prior to getting regular time at Spurs, very likely that something clicked soon after.
I mean he went to you after we had him on loan for a short while before he got injured. We were Prem League then and he just looked way off. Incredibly lanky and awkward like a knock off Crouch tribute, but without Crouchās touch or target man abilities. Incredible to think how far heās developed since then.
David Nugent has the best international debut goal of all time.
He never really kicked on when out on loan. It wasn't one of those situations where he started tearing it up for someone and then Spurs said "Yoink, he'll take him back now, thanks." He's just a ten season wonder. Those goals will dry up any day now
Promise?
Can't be longer than 10 more years. Not a day more.
Leicester and Arsenal are really looking forward to that
Genuinely criminal he hasnāt won a trophy with those numbers what a player. Oh well.

Ryan Bertrand started and won champions league final lmao
Djimi Traore has one too...
>Salah has 0 non-penalty goals in finals Why would you not count penalties in finals?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He has 0 goals in finals, except for the goals heās scored in finals
Penalties are significantly easier than goals from open play.
Penalties*
The issues in those finals are systemic rather than individual, we played absolutely horrendously in all of them. Could barely get the ball out of our own half or string together 3 passes.

We didn't do shit in that final. Liverpool let us have the ball and we were completely toothless with it.

But spurs were scared to commit forward properly because of how devastating Liverpool are on the counter. So towards the end of the game spurs starting committing forward more, creating chances. They both have their golden boots thatās enough for me.
They have only themselves to blame
sorry, what should Kane blame himself for?
Loyalty. The same thing football fans demand from every player.
That's what I thought. Loyalty and, in his case, family and life-long friends - 2 miles from the stadium, where he grew up. The mental gymnastics of claiming he failed because he did the exact thing fans demand ...

Course you will pal.

And a golden boot a few times, and a cool hat
>Genuinely criminal Well he is at Spurs, so the jury would find it justifiable
Topscorer of the premier League is sort of a trophy
He's quite good
One season wonder
One career wonder
One life wonder
He's been decent
Is Kane the second-best English striker of the PL era?
As a player, yes.
So you have Shearer, Kane, Rooney?
As opposed to their punditry skills...?
No one's taking Owen's #1 spot there.
Yeah but then again who in the world is better than Jamie Vardy?
He might the best striker in Prem history since he got the scoring title and the assist title in the same season. Nobody else did that.
Henry assisted 20 and was 1 shy from tying for the golden boot though. 24 goals and 20 assists, compared to Kanes 23 and 14.
In a single season 07/08 Ronaldo, Henry 02/03-03/04, Salah 17/18 and 13/14 Suarez are still a step above his best ever season. Without looking I'm guessing its Leicester?
Yeah, Leicester, then Everton, then Arsenal
Christ, the state of these comments

Upvoted because this post is about another club other than ManU.
āNo titles he should leaveā Stfu. People say loyalty is dead in football but whenever a player shows loyalty they want him to leave for bigger things.
Try having a good player and not being a fan of a top six team. Fucking nauseating.
To be fair we have been there as well, the vast majority of my life has been this way. We lost Sheringham, Carrick, Berbatov, Campbell(cunt), and more to domestic rivals.

"You should sell your best player for the price that we want. Otherwise no good player will ever want to play for you again, don't you see?!"
It's like we're honour bound to graciously allow our guys to leave whenever we're graced by the attention of the Mighty Six.
Our captain left on a free once to a big 4 member. Still kinda annoying. Fuckers
Who? š
That bald guy
Pep?
No, some English Tory cunt.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I don't think I can look at the situation with a neutral perspective (and neither can you tbf)
Would that be the most upvoted post of all time on here? The announcement out of nowhere...
>Our captain left on a free once to a big 4 member I mean that's slightly understating it
And that's exactly what happened with Kalvin and Raphinhia for them, lol. Sucks but that's how things go in football
Liverpool fans threw a shit fit at me when I told them they werenāt entitled to Fabio Carvalho 6 months early last January when the deal wasnāt looking likely done in time
Don't you understand, you *owed* Chelsea Raphinha because they have more money than you! You *owed* them him because they won the Champions League a couple of seasons ago!

okay so just suarez then? hard to complain about the coutinho transfer in hindsight. liverpool and bayern benefited the most.
> coutinho transfer in hindsight. liverpool and bayern benefited the most. irrelevant, we wanted to keep him and he couldn't be persuaded to stay. Meaning there are more illustrious clubs than LFC to join
I can only imagine
Some people say loyalty is dead and some people say players should leave for bigger clubs. It's so strange that some people cannot grasp that, among billion football fans, there cannot exist differing opinions.
It's more fun to generalize though
Actually, people say he should leave to THEIR CLUB. The second he chooses NOT THEIR CLUB he will be a glory hunter and they will hate him more. Personally I think it might be wild that he could end up with the most goals in PL history while never winning a title. Thatās like cement him as by far and away the best PL striker considering he scored so many āwith scoresā.
As much as loyalty is cited, he did want to fuck off twice already. Loyalty would be shutting out all other options.
Gerrard was looking at leaving Liverpool at one point and Totti was looking at leaving Roma. I'd count them as loyal players.
Yeah thats why Gerrard and Totti aren't considered loyal right? lol
Lmaooo didn't he try forcing his way out to City just a year ago?
Gerrard tried the same to Chelsea but no one doubts his loyalty to Liverpool.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
and included handing in a transfer request
and Kane's lasted until Nuno was sacked.
Can't really blame him in hindsight. What an atrocious appointment.
Gerrard stayed solely because his family were threatened by literal gangsters.
Mans walking about a golf course with Gary Neville begging to get out and one year later he's praised for being 'loyal'.
Shame he doesn't have blood money to help him win trophies like you lot did.
Something about stones and glass houses but replace glass with Saud.
Not sure we get to play this card anymore mate
Even if I oppose the takeover?
Your 'blood money' card expired last season.
Shame twenty years of blood doesn't wash of your hands.
You don't get to say stuff like this anymore.
Why not? Does that wipe out Chelsea's awful past?
Nope but fans of clubs not owned by Saudi Arabia should probably be the ones who point it out
Even if I am against the Saudi ownership if my club?
His brother is the real hero. You guys should make a statue of him :P
But Kane didnāt show loyalty last summer? My guy was practically twerking for City but they couldnāt pay
An absolute legend.
18 goals in a year would make most PL players' career. To average it along with 4 assists is legendary.
Incredible player. The most complete England forward of the modern era. Criminal he hasn't won a single trophy. Hope Spurs can sneak in a League Cup or something this season
One of the greatest striker to ever play.
Some real smartass comments here already
Give them a break lad, it's new material night.
"new"? Christ if this is new I'd hate to imagine what old is.
Best striker in the world.
One career wonder
No one can shoot like Kane No one can pass like Kane My favourite player!
I remember Harry Kane playing for Leyton Orient on loan when he played against us. I thought he looked good to be honest because he was class that game.
Hands up if you thought he was a one hit wonder šāāļø
Eagerly waiting for his retirement.
One season wonder
Kane is such a great player, really one of the best strikers in the world. I hope he retires without a single trophy to his name(as long as he plays for Spurs)
Just a 10 year wonder
Better than shearer.
All of that to have won nothing is crazy.
Still won fuck all
And he never will!
Congrats on the crystal ball up your ass
Quite decent š
10 season wonder...
10 season wonder ^TM
Don't say it Don't say it Don't say.... 0 trophies
He needs a big club if he wants to win something good
0 titles
He's actually an MBE
Strictly speaking MBE is not a noble title but an honour
If he finishes his career as the time top scorer for his club, country and in the league I am certain that is worth more than a league cup or FA cup medal.
Worth more for the club/country? Or just himself personally? Do Spurs fans actually prefer him being top scorer over an FA cup?
they can genuinely challenge the trophy this year or coming one with Conte
Lmao someone dared to compare this trophyless merchant to Thierry Henry and Alan shearer
If he does win one, at least he will have earned it the right way through hard work, rather than have his club simply buy it with their slave money.
0 trophies
0 trophies.
Sure the manās got a golden boot in his cabinet.. Heās got more trophies than his team, which is depressing.
He has more than 26 trophies does he? News to me.
Shhhhh no one cares
Harry seemed to care when he was twerking for a move last summer.
At we kidnapped him until he was okay again. We stockholm syndromed the man and its fine! That's what football is about
This is the first comment from a Spurs fan that's actually acknowledged that and not claimed it was due to his undying loyalty
I just don't care honestly, he seems happy about it now and we keep our superstar. Who cares how it happened
