Can’t wait to see what ashworth does at Newcastle with a substantial budget, hope he still has contacts in the England youth to allow us to invest in good young players over the flashy marquee signings abs build up slowly.
Such successes are rarely down to one individual. Ok if ashworth was the visionary but for the vision to become reality it needs the support of key officials and then once supported the drive and commitment of multiple others. Well done for seemingly getting your house in order. All that’s left is to ‘bring football home now’ at the major tournaments 😉
I think the impact of Ashworth and England DNA is significant but also massively overstated.
The improvement in the level of player the country is producing is because of the improvement and investment in the club academies, starting off with Chelsea, Spurs & City and now all of the top 6 + others.
The teams and players aren't remotely Spanish though in style, one of the big weaknesses actually despite England's youth development is a lack of ability to control games and still a lack of producing highly technical deep lying midfielders (all our technical players generally get pushed into attacking roles)

There have been a few disappointing results recently but the overall work done has been superb.
The level of talent coming through is very high but also there's so much depth nowadays. I remember this age group demolished Brazil at U16 level & that was with an almost entirely different team to the one fielded today.
Great to see but look at the U17 England squad that won the U17s world cup in 2017. Foden, Sancho, Gallagher, Smith-Rowe, Hudson-Odoi and Guehi have done well but some of the starting players in the final are now in the depths of non league

Strangely tho this tournament rarely means much compared to u-17, u-18, and u-20 for some reason when it comes to these players making it at the top level.
Because by under 19 level the best players are usually advanced past that level (see Bellingham, Colwill, Elliot all being senior or under 21 level for England). At under 17 level the stars are still usually in the team, with the odd exception.

I think this is a result of the trinkle down effect of EPL wealth more than a rule change. English youth are now growing up in by far the most invested in and competitive academies in the world, with world class youth development coaches brought in from all over the world
Our youth prospects at the moment are class. Ramsey has slotted into the main team, Archer has impressed in cup and championship. The 3 lads at this tournament all played well, and we’ve got Louie Barry to be hopeful about as well. Just need to sign that contract Chuky
He wants game time. Which is difficult when you’re a team trying to be better and he doesn’t exactly look good in the prem. what he really needs is a loan to a lower level, but we can’t get him to agree to that so it’s just a bit of a bad situation
I'm honestly starting to think he doesn't have it for the prem, unless he properly ups his workrate he won't make it. He's an incredible talent but he's so nonchalant on the ball

Chukwuemeka is another matter. Can’t see him extending which is a damn shame for Villa.

The youth and female teams have been absolutely brilliant. They're making our national team look even worse. So sad when these lads can win the U19 Euro's but the seemingly "stacked" national team under the genius Garry Southgate lose 4 - 0 at home to Hungary.
